Connie Belt

Connie Ray Belt, 58, of Dexter, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born Dec. 4, 1943, in Campbell, Mo., son of Winona Belt, of Campbell and the late Russell Belt, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion.

On Nov. 17, 2001, in Dexter, he married Barbara Scott, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one son, Randy Belt, of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Jody Belt, of Mexico, Mo.; three step-sons, Jimmie Payne, of Dexter, Kenneth Payne, of Blytheville, Ark. and Larry Payne, of Fulton, Mo.; one step-daughter, Rhonda White, of Sikeston, Mo. and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Dean Williams officiating.

Burial was in the Hagy cemetery at Dexter.

Fred Ford

Dr. Fred E. Ford, 61, of Pulaski, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Vanderbilt Hospital.

Born Jan. 15, 1940, in Kennett, son of Dorris Ellis Ford, of Kennett and the late Fred Ford, he was Vice President of Academic Affairs at Martin Methodist College.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ford, of Pulaski; three daughters, Susan Ford, of Cleveland, Ohio, Paige Fisher, of Boston, Mass. and Katie Ford, of Pulaski; one son, Jonathan Ford, of Pulaski; one sister, Dona Rae Grissham, of Danville, Ill.; two grandchildren and three nieces.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Kennett-May Funeral Home in Pulaski and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the First Baptist Church in Pulaski.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the First Baptist Church with Joe Henry and Revs. Doug Plumlee, Garie Taylor and Ben Alford officiating.

Burial will follow at the Maplewood cemetery.

Elden Garland

Elden Joe Garland, 76, of Malden, Mo., died today, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the Malden Nursing Home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Landess Funeral Home of Malden.

Ernest George

Ernest Wade George, 87, of Senath, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the Senath Nursing Center.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.

Ivel Matney

Ivel Matney, 90, of Arbyrd, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

He was born March 6, 1911, in Black Rock, Ark.

He married Delora Mashburn.

Survivors include two sons, Ivel Ray Matney, of Dexter, Mo. and James Hulan Matney, of Bernie, Mo.; three daughters, Leona GeRow, of Gladwin, Mich., Wanda Lee Bailey, of Flint, Mich. and Jane Carter, of Arbyrd.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Delbert Matney; two brothers, Arvie and Alvie Matney and one sister, Josie Russell.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the McDaniel Funenral Home Chapel in Senath with the Rev. Vernon Purser officiating.

Burial was in the Shiloh cemetery at Paragould, Ark.

Pallbearers were Mike Matney, Michael Quinn, Jim Forcum, Ronald Palmer, Daniel Gum, James and Matthew Matney and Jerry Carter.

Vivian Pleasant

Vivian Pleasant, 84, of Willow Springs, Mo., formerly of Wardell, Mo., died today, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Willow Health Care in Willow Springs.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home of Wardell.

Kent Sexton

James Kent Sexton, 60, of Kennett, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at his residence.

Born April 11, 1941, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of the late Jean E. and Gwendolyn Ruth Gladish Sexton.

On June 2, 1973, he married Viretta McElyea, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two sons, William Kent Sexton, of Dallas, Texas and James Garland "Luke" Sexton, of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Camille Berkley Lockhart, of Springfield, Mo. and Natasia Sexton, of Baton Rouge, La.; one niece, Aisling O'Connell Cook, of Dublin, Ireland; one nephew, Etienne O'Connell, of Dublin and one grandchild, Olivia Berkley Lockhart, of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Suzanne O'Connell.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the Oak Ridge cemetery.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the First Presbyterian Church in Kennett with the Rev. Gary Mayes officiating.

Pallbearers were Charles Parker, Wendell Crow, Steve Crow, Jim Reynolds, Rick Jones, Langdon Jones, Patrick McHaney and Richard Edgington.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Kennett, VNA Hospice Care in Kennett or the Scleroderma Research Foundation, 2320 Bath St., Suite 315, Santa Barbara, Calif., 93105.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.

Selma Shaw

Selma Shaw, 80, of Tallapoosa, Mo., died today, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Landess Funeral Home of Malden.

Alma Tune

Alma Louise Tune, 67, of Kennett, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born April 27, 1934, in Waynesboro, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Virl and Nancy Luttrull Morgan.

On Nov. 15, 1951, she married Franklin William Tune, who preceded her in death on June 24, 2000. She was also preceded in death by one infant daughter, Janice Kay Tune.

Survivors include two sons, Franklin Arthur Tune, of Kennett and Stanley Wayne Tune, of Gatewood, Mo.; one daughter, Cherry Robinson, of Holcomb, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Tom Crane officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Jerry, Jerry Don and Chuck Carnett, Hubert Robinson, Rick Sharp and Gary Trainer.

Oberah Walls

Oberah Walls, 88, of Senath, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at the Senath Nursing Center.

Born Aug. 7, 1913, in Senath, she was the daughter of the late John and Monte Schultz McKee.

On June 15, 1932, in Paragould, Ark., she married Virgil Walls, who preceded her in death on March 28, 1991.

Survivors include one son, Bill Walls and wife, Letha, of Pass Christian, Miss.; two grandchildren, Alan Walls and wife, Virginia, of Paragould and Nancee Lalli and husband, of Buloxie, Miss.; one brother, Gordan McKee, of Dryden, Mich.; one sister, Opal McKee, of Bay St. Louis, Mich.; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath with Revs. Doug Clinton and Albert Camp officiating.

Burial was in the Lulu cemetery at Senath.

Pallbearers were Robbie Shrum, Paul Stout, J.R. Holsten, Alan Walls, Lou Lalli and Kraig Hodson.

James Baker

James "Jim" Edward Baker, 61, of Campbell, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at his residence.

Born Oct. 1, 1940, in Morrilton, Ark., son of the late Seth Simon and Arka Nichols Baker, he woked at Federal Mogul in Malden, Mo. and was of the Baptist faith.

On Nov. 6, 1981, in Piggott, Ark., he married Karen Lindsey, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include four sons, Greg Baker and wife, Paula, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., James Baker and wife, Jane, of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Jason and Seth Baker, both of Campbell; one daughter, Tina Evans and husband, Terry, of Advance, Mo.; one brother, Seth Simon Baker, Jr., of California; two sisters, Virginia Newton, of Bernie, Mo. and Pauline Watkins, of Lilbourn, Mo. and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Redman officiating.

Burial will follow at the Bethany cemetery in Campbell.

Joe Garland

Joe Garland, 76, of Malden, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the Malden Nursing Center.

Born Aug. 8, 1925, in Malden, son of the late Jerry and Vevia Skelton Garland, he is retired from the Army National Guard and he also served in the Navy, Air Force and Army and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a cotton ginner, an Adult Literacy Program volunteer, a Vista volunteer and a member and past deacon of the First Southern Baptist Church in Malden.

On July 1, 1947, in Marion, Ark., he married Margarete Basham, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one daughter, Linda Barton, of Crystal City, Mo.; two granddaughters, Amy Evans, of Crystal City and Mary Grimes, of Old Monroe, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Cameron and Samantha Grimes and Kyle Evans; three brothers, Delmar and Jay Garland, both of Malden and Ray Garland, of Canyon Lake, Texas and two sisters, Fay Carter, of Paducah, Ky. and Flossie Beaird, of Parma, Mo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Paul Garland and one sister, Adell Lanier.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Garland officiating.

Burial will follow at the Rosewood cemetery, First Addition in Malden.
