Corrine Blankenship

Corinne Dement Blankenship, 86, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Kennett, died Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Grace Manor in Orlando.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, in the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett, followed at 11 a.m. by funeral services with the Rev. Ed Jansson officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.

Darrell Briggs

Ernest Darrell "Squeaky" Briggs, 84, of Senath, Mo., died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at NHC Healthcare of Kennett.

Born Tuesday, Sept. 25, 1917, in Gates, Tenn., son of the late Ernest and Nora Beatrice Sloan Briggs, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Senath, the Barnes, Casinger, Montgomery American Legion Post and former fire chief at Senath for 30 years. He was drafted into the Army in 1944 and served in World War II. He was sent to England, then to Metz, France. His prowess with a machine gun in combat earned him the Silver Star medal for gallantry in action on April 7, 1945 while battling German troops at Osterbonen, Germany. He was discharged Dec. 22, 1945.

On June 5, 1938, in Hayti, Mo., he married Lois Wallace who survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Sandra Davis of Little Rock, Ark, and Vicky Svoboda and husband, John, of Victoria, Texas; two sisters, Edna Earl Penny of Kennett and Evelyn Warf of Sikeston, Mo.; four grandchildren, William E. Byrd III, Hans Chaput, Dr. Chris D. Chaput and Sheldon Svoboda; and two great-grandchildren Kendall and Trenton Byrd. He was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Rose Briggs. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at First Baptist Church of Senath with the Revs. Doug Clinton and Derek Combs officiating.

Burial was in the Senath cemetery.

American Legion members of Senath served as active pallbearers: Bill Holifield, Haze Montgomery, Gene Slinkard, Carlos Jackson, Alvie Wilcox, Tom Chandler and other members.

Honorary pallbearers were James Davis, Charles Hendershott, Oble Reagan, Teddy Deck, Bobby Deck, Robert Allen Deck, Carl Lee Newman, Robert Caneer, Charles Adams, Jack Brewer, Freddie Chandler, Glen Johnson, James Blackwell, Vernon Purser and Skip Crossno.

Juanita Cain

Juanita C. Cain, 85, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Tuesday, April 29, 2002, at her home.

Born Jan. 17, 1917, in Caruthersville, daughter of the late William Wells and Mary Jane Gullic Corbett, she attended Caruthersville schools. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Marathon Bridge Club and Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church. She was deputy recorder for Pemiscot County for more than 45 years prior to retirement.

On Jan. 31, 1965, in Caruthersville, she married Hoyt F. Cain who preceded her in death July 20, 1982. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Jane Oates of Webster Groves, Mo.; a niece, Barbara Bush of Ladue, Mo.; five nephews, George Wells Cook of Franklin, Tenn., Bill Cook of Houston, Texas; Winston Cook of Medical Lake, Wash., John Corbett Holland of Plummersville, Ark. and Bo Oates of Richmond, Va.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dwight Chapman and Winston Cook officiating.

Burial was in Little Prairie cemetery.

Pallbearers were Billy Cook, John Holland, Winston K. Cook, George W. Cook, John "Bo" Oates and R. Michael Bush.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of services.

Nina Harrellson

Nina Harrellson, 78, of Kennett, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Born March 25, 1924, at Poughkeepsie, Ark., daughter of the late John H. and Vera Lee Watson Nichols, she was a former Emerson Electric Co. employee.

Survivors include a son, Verlon Harrellson of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Carmelita Mills and her husband, Waburn, of Memphis, Tenn., a brother, Paschel Nichols and his wife, Joan, of Columbus, Ind.; two sisters, Delta McNutt of Bragg City, Mo., and Melva Nichols of Kennett and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson and a nephew. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. today, Sunday, May 5, in the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with James Powell and Gale Benson officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett. Pallbearers were Henry, Danny and Lanny Broglin, Gary and Brian McDonald and Chris Martin. Ruby E. Hawkins Ruby E. Hawkins, 84, of Jonesboro, Ark., died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at her residence.

Visitation will be Monday, May 6, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. in Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.

Robert Montgomery

Robert Claude Montgomery, 38, of Gideon, Mo., died Thursday, May 2, at his home in Gideon.

Born July 27, 1963 in Kennett, son of Claude Montgomery and the late Elsoner Baker Montgomery, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarkton, Mo.

On Nov. 23, 1986, in Monroe, Ga., he married Debora Banks who survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Robert Claude Montgomery II of the home; two daughters, Rachel Dawn Montgomery of the home and Ashley Renee Calvert of Gideon; three sisters, Freda Mae Montgomery of Gideon and Sonia Kay Hicks of Bloomfield, Mo. and a half-brother, Rod Baker of Texas.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, May 5, in the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Gideon with the Rev. Perry Clark officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Gilead cemetery at Clarkton.

Burley Pollard

Burley Pollard, 65, of Senath, Mo., died Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark. Born Feb. 16, 1937 in Kennett, he was the son of the late Homer S. and Ethel McNeal Pollard.

Suvivors include three sons, Curtis Pollard of Clarkton, Mo., Mark Pollard of Malden, Mo., and Dennie Bybee of Galien, Mich.; three daughters, Patricia Diane Hubbard of Sikeston, Mo., Tammy Tripp of Portageville, Mo. and Tressie Vance of Campbell, Mo.; a brother, James Pollard of Rector, Ark.; three sisters, Gwendolyn Smallmon of Niles, Mich., Bonnie Crittenden of Rector, Ark. and Barbara Albred of Ocean Springs, Miss.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services were at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Oak Ridge cemetery of Kennett under direction of McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett.

Corinne Blankenship

Corinne Dement Blankenship, 86, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Kennett, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Grace Manor in Orlando.

Born March 31, 1916, in Dunklin County, daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Ora Mae Loy Dement, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kennett.

She married Charles Avery Blankenship, who preceded her in death on March 9, 1985. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ola Fries.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Blankenship and two sisters, Eda Shepherd and Nell Dement, both of Savannah, Tenn.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, May 7, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Jansson officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Tom Kinsey, Larry French, Jack Lloyd and Glen Leach.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Kennett.

Ruby Pannells

Ruby Jo-An Adkins Pannells, 62, of Cardwell, Mo., died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at the Arkansas Methodist Hosptial in Paragould, Ark.

Born Dec. 23, 1939, in Lake City, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Carrie Mae Adkins.

On June 5, 1956, she married Granville Wayne Pannells, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Adkins; one sister Geneva Smothers; one son, Terry Wayne Pannells and one grandchild, James David Caraway, Jr.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Pannells, Tommy Pannells and Jesse Pannells, all of Cardwell; two daughters, Carrie Lisa Caraway, of Senath, Mo. and Sarah Pannells, of Cardwell; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sean Pannells, Bono, Michelle, Ashley and Zachary Caraway and Joshua, Jeremiah and Jessica Pannells and one sister, Iva Mae Arant, of Nellville, Texas.

Graveside services were held Monday, May 6, at the Cardwell cemetery with David Powell officiating.

Pallbearers were Alfred Townsend, Mike Bennett, Rick Jones, Glenn McBride, Bobby Ganis and Danny Sessums.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Senath was in charge of arrangements.

Leah Crank

Leah Crank, 34, of Malden, Mo., died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Landess Funeral Home of Malden.

Earnest Hart

Earnest Junior Hart, 59, of Arbyrd, Mo., died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Born Sept. 23, 1942, in Greenbrier, Ark., he was the son of the late Cecil and Tennessee Ward Hart.

On Nov. 23, 1979, in Arbyrd, he married Joyce Sando, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include four brothers, Bill Hart, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Charles West, of Rockford, Ill., Winford West, of Xenia, Ill. and Larry West, of Senath, Mo.; one sister, Brenda Grimaldo, of Arbyrd and one granddaughter, Rebecca Keller.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Keller.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 7, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath with the Rev. Denny Brown officiating.

Burial was in the Cude cemetery.

Arthur Johnson

Arthur Dale Johnson, 80, of Bernie, Mo., died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Aug. 21, 1921, in Bernie, son of the late Arthur 'Jack' and Evadne Smith Johnson, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII, worked at General Motors and was a member of the American Legion of Malden, Mo.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Sue Morgan, of Dexter, Mo. and Deborah Ann Hobgood, of Bernie; one sister, Joan Kittel, of Bernie; five grandchildren, Rebecca Tanner and Derek Hobgood, both of Bernie, Cara Eaton and Devon Guethle, both of Dexter and Shane Mansker, of Corning, Ark. and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Dale Johnson.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 8, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Susan Marner-Sides officiating.

Burial will follow at the Bernie cemetery.

Herman Matthews

Herman Matthews, 94, of Malden, Mo., died today, Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at the Malden Nursing Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden.
