Jewell McClendon

Jewell Douglas McClendon, 75, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti, Mo.

Born Nov 3, 1926, in Gideon, Mo., son of the late William and Ollie Isabel Bess McClendon, he was a carpenter and a member and former deacon of the Temple Baptist Church.

On April 16, 1948, in Caruthersville, he married Naomi Beatrice McAlpin, who preceded him in death on March 16, 2001. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy; four brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Jim, Nathan and David McClendon, all of Caruthersville; one daughter, Elaine Acord, of Little Rock, Ark.; four grandchildren, Kelly, Kara, Tiffany and Matthew, all of Caruthersville and one great-grandchild, Kelsey, of Caruthersville.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 19, at the Temple Baptist Church in Caruthersville with the Rev. Jerry Harmon officiating.

Burial was in the Pemiscot Memorial Gardens cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Cecil Johnson, Scott Carter, Vaughn Treece, Billy Hopkins, Tommy Day and Murel Andrews.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.

Wanda Thompson

Wanda Thompson, 82, of St. Louis, Mo., died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at her residence.

Born Dec. 9, 1919, in Campbell, Mo., daughter of the late Jess and Mary Josephine Cato Smith, she was of the Baptist faith.

In 1941, at Piggott, Ark., she married William Powell Thompson, who preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1982. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Sue Gucciardo, of St. Louis; two sons, Jim Stewart and Hubert Thompson, both of St. Louis; two sisters, Winnie Veatch, of Campbell and Janelle Blackburn, of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 21, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ear D. Dell officiating.

Burial will follow at the Woodlawn cemetery in Campbell.

Taylor Walters

Taylor Marie Walters, 2 days, of Holcomb, Mo., died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born May 17, 2002, at Kennett, she was the daughter of Shawn Aaron Walters, of Kennett and Tina Marie Crane Walters, of Holcomb.

Survivors also include grandparents, Tom and Mary Lou Crane, of Holcomb and Tommy and Shirley Walters, of Kennett; a great-grandmother, Barbara Crane, of Broseley, Mo. and great-grandparents, Jake and Jackie Godfree, of Paragould, Ark.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 21, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett with the Revs. Tom Crane and Hubert Robinson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo.

Macon Culbertson

Macon Culbertson, 79, of Kennett, died today, Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at National Health Care in Kennett.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Buys

Betty Buys, 78, of Kennett, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at her residence.

Born Nov. 7, 1923, in Denton, Mo., daughter of the late Oscar Eugene James and Mae Raines, she was a member of the Third Street Baptist Church.

On July 26, 1946, she married Boyd Buys, who preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1996. She was also preceded in death by six brothers; four sisters and one step-son, C.T. Buys.

Survivors include three sons, Hayden Eugene Glasscock, of Norfolk, Va., Gary Buys, of Blytheville, Ark. and Greg Buys, of Pochahontas, Ark. one daughter, Nancy Crawford, of Kennett; one step-daughter, Dorothy Mitchell, of Vicksburg, Miss.; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 22, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bud Evans officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Jason Crawford and Brandon, Brock, Justin, Gary and Greg Buys.

Hubert Hall

Hubert Burton Hall, 93, of Qulin, Mo., died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born Dec. 29, 1908, in Dyersburg, Tenn., son of the late Julius Hall and Estella Neil Hall Kitchens, he was a farmer and a member of the Qulin Trinity Pentecostal Church.

On Sept. 26, 1936, in Poplar Bluff, he married Pauletta Scott, who preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 1980. He was also preceded in death by one son, Bethel D. Hall; one daughter, Janice Metcalf; one brother and four sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Burlin Sanders and wife, Beverly, of Louisiana; Charles Hall and wife, Marilyn, of Ellisville, Mo. and Brandon Hall, of St., Louis, Mo.; three daughters, Louise Hefner and husband, John, of Woodson Terrace, Mo., Iris Hall, of Qulin and Sharon Hall, of Lebanon, Mo.; one brother, Tom Hall, of Qulin; two sisters, Hazel Scott and Myra Luepke, both of Poplar Bluff; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kinley Dunscombe and Pastor Mike Craig officiating.

Burial will follow at the Qulin cemetery.

Berry Holder

Berry Holder, 88, of Dexter, Mo., died Monday, May 20, 2002, at his residence.

Borm Jan. 21, 1914, in Clarkton, Mo., son of the late Oscar Summers and Bertha Pearl Siegers Holder, he was employed at Stovall's Department Store in Dexter and was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Dexter.

On Nov. 24, 1938, in Dexter, he married Inez Daniel, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include three sons, Bill Holder and wife, Alice, of Annapolis, Md., Jerry Holder and wife, Joan, of Columbus, Ga. and Larry Holder and wife, Mary, of Bourbonnais, Ill; one sister, Louise Campbell, of Kennett; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Holder.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, at the Watkin & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vaughn Wright officiating.

Burial will follow at the Dexter cemetery at Dexter.

Macon Culbertson

Macon Culbertson, 79, of Kennett, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Spencer Furby and Jerry Culbertson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kenett.

Betty Hartwick

Betty June Hartwick, 62, of Mitchell, Ill., died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at her residence.

Born April 4, 1940, in Rector, Ark., daughter of the late Charles Egbert and Agnes Bounds West, she was an asphalt operator, a mail carrier and of the Baptist faith.

She married Marion 'Don' Hartwick, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include five children, Perry Hartwick and wife, Sandi, David Hartwick and wife, Denise, Bryan Hartwick and wife, Joan, Jeff Hartwick and wife, Donna and Tim Hartwick and wife, Tami, all of Granite City, Ill.; 15 grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Luke, Jake, Alex, Kaisi, Zack, Vanissa, Lindsay, Nathan, Erika, Damen, Devyn, Caleb and Josh and one sister, Wanda Brandon, of Batesville, Ark.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, W.C. and Donald West.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, May 23, at the Werner-Mick Funeral Home in Pontoon Beach, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 24, at the Werner-Mick Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Linhart officiating.

Burial will follow at the St. John cemetery in Granite City.

Memorials may be made to the Granite City Foursquare Church.

George Masters

George Masters, 77, of Farmington, Mo., died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Landess Funeral Home of Campbell, Mo.

Cornelaus Jackson

Cornelaus Jackson, 93, of Malden, Mo., died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Arrangements are incomplete with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden.

Eula Lancaster

Eula Lancaster, 82, of Campbell, Mo., died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Ark.

Arrangements are incomplete with Landess Funeral Home of Campbell.
