Carl Doherty

Carl Thomas Doherty, 71, of Marshfield, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Marshfield.

Born April 18, 1930, in Senath, Mo., son of the late Freddie E. and Beulah Lee Reaves Doherty, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean conflict. He taught school in the Senath and Leadwood school districts, he was a secondary principal for the Iberia and Niangua school districts and was also a basketball coach.

On Oct. 1, 1955, he married Bonnie Jean Dunigan, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one daughter, Donna and husband, Stan, of Lake Ozark; two sons, Freddie and wife, Stacey, of Mansfield and David and wife, Keri, of Hartville; seven grandchildren, Derek, Dara, Devin, Alyssa, Gabrielle, Jordan and Cole; two sisters, Jessie Muriel Crum, of Arbyrd and Florine Swain, of Senath and one brother, Jerry Doherty and wife, Floy, of Woodson Terrace.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Day Funeral Home in Marshfield with Ron Alexander and Kent Richardson officiating.

Burial was in the Marshfield cemetery.

Lavennia Earlsz

Lavennia Earls, 79, of Kennett, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Lewis and J. Daniel Fulbright officiating.

Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion cemetery in Steele, Mo.

Taylor Francis, Sr

Taylor Francis, Sr., 61, of Jonesboro, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born at Shannon, Miss., son of the late Kelton and Sue Francis, he was a retired AFLAC Insurance Agent, president of the Mid-South Garden Railroad Society, former Superintendent of the Dixie School and he attended the Southwest Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Janis of the home; one daughter, Tammie Campbell, of Kennett one son, Taylor Francis, Jr., of Nevada, Mo; one brother, Bob Francis, of Tupelo, Miss and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Nettleton cemetery in Jonesboro with Dr. Jimmy Adcox officiating.

Pallbearers were David Loggians, Joe Mansfield, Gene Qualls, John Oxner, Charles Johns and Tommy Campbell.

Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Southwest Church of Christ or the Paragould Children's Home.

Joe Jackson

Joe Neal Jackson, 66, of Batchelor, La., formerly, of Senath, Mo., died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Pointe Coupee General Hospital in New Roads, La.

Born Jan. 2, 1935, in Tennessee, son of Maggie Tacker Jackson, of Senath and the late Grady Jackson, he was a farmer, a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in New Roads and a Gideon. He was president of Point Coupee Parish Farm Bureau, and served on the State Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Louisiana Agricultural Commodity Commission and the Point Coupee Farmers Elevator Board of Directors.

Survivors also include his wife, Mollie Jackson; one daughter, Carol Barr and husband, Louis, of St. Francisville; one son, Neal Jackson, of Lake Cormorant, Miss.; two grandsons, Wesley Barr, of St. Francisville and Jeremy Jackson, of Lake Cormorant; one granddaughter, April B. Rabalais; two great-grandsons, Clayton and Dane Rabalais; four brothers, Carlos, Max, W.T. and Ralph Jackson, all of Missouri and one sister, Barbara Roark, of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mae Nell Cates and three nieces.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the First Baptist Church in New Roads.

Burial was in the Latanache cemetery in Batchelor.

Niland's Funeral Home of New Roads was in charge of arrangements.

Everett Neighbors

Everett Neighbors, 73, of Kennett, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Born Oct. 28, 1928, in Hornersville, Mo., son of the late John and Ruth Cole Neighbors, he was in the yard and tree service business.

In 1944, he married Charlene Ivy and later married Patricia Ruth Crafton on Aug. 30, 1976.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Neighbors, of Kennett; two sons, Jerry Don and Larry Neighbors, both of Kennett; one daughter, Debra Neighbors, of Kennett; two step-sons, James S. Prince, of Kennett and Richard E. Prince, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; four sisters, Neta Bibbs and Shirley Blackburn, both of Hornersville, Raymona Pradon, of Hartford, Mich. and June Wyrick, of Kennett; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Neighbors and one step-daughter, Denise M. Prince.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Ely Baptist Church in Kennett with the Rev. Don Slatton officiating.

Burial was in the Horner cemetery at Hornersville.

Pallbearers were John and Gary Neighbors, Larry Neighbors, Jr., Rick Bibbs and Steve and Rick Prince.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Overman

Dorothy Mae Overman, 74, of Hornersville, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at the Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Oct. 2, 1927, in Mickie, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Frank Boyd and Julia Vee Caldwell Banks.

On May 23, 1946, in Paragould, Ark., she married Edward Overman, who preceded her in death on April 6, 1984.

Survivors include one son, Ernest Franklin Overman, of Hollywood, Mo.; four daughters, Mary Crawford, of Kennett, Marty Hill, of Hollywood, Brenda Coppedge, of Bonne Terre, Mo. and Patricia Patterson, of Memphis; one brother, Frank Boyd Banks, of Lafe, Ark. and two sisters, Nora Heath, of Savannah, Tenn. and Tina Lipford, of Springdale, Ark.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Hal Gordon Banks.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 12, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Hornersville with the Rev. Doug Clinton officiating.

Burial was in the Horner cemetery at Hornersville.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

John Pflueger

John Carlos Pflueger, 80, of Ellsinore, Mo., died at the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born Oct. 8, 1921, in Buchanan, Tenn., son of the late John Frank and Ollie Dorothy Duckworth Pflueger, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII.

On Jan. 29, 1941, in New Madrid, Mo., he married Ora Condict, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include four sons, John Arthur and Ron Pflueger, both of Ellsinore, Paul Pflueger, of Apopka, Fla. and Dwight Pflueger, of Brosley, Mo.; four daughters, Aloma Drummond, of Ellsinore, Beverly Henderson, of Malden, Mo., Janet Gottner, of Austin, Texas and Betty Brown, of Imperial, Mo.; one brother, Ernest Pflueger, of Kennett; five sisters, Hazel Robinson, of Portageville, Mo., Ida Haney, of Turlock, Calif., Audrey Cato and Christine Brandenburg, both of Malden and Dathel Manning, of Gideon, Mo.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Danny and Scott Drummond; four sisters, Louise Rogers, Mary Pflueger and two infant sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger West officiating.

Burial was in the Browns Chapel cemetery in Brosley.

Verba Romines

Verba Ellen Romines, 80, of Bernie, Mo., formerly of Blythe, Calif., died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Mo.

Born Feb. 8, 1921, in Fisk, Mo., daughter of the late Alva and Julia Allen Rowley, she was a Social Service Supervisor for the Department of Public Services, Social Services Division at Blythe and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. No. 2987 in Blythe.

Survivors include one sister, Betty Coss, of Bernie.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Cleo L. Rowley.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today, Tueday, Nov. 13, at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie with the Rev. O.H. Brooks officiating.

Burial was in the Shain Memorial cemetery at Ash Hill, Mo.

Jesse Smith

Jesse C. Smith, 49, of Compton, Calif., formerly of Hayti, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at the V.A. Hospital in Long Beach, Calif.

Born June 19, 1952, in Portageville, Mo., son of Betty Mae Smith, of Hayti and the late Clyde Daugherty, he was a veteran, a chef, a carpenter and was a member of the Mt.Olive M.B. Church.

Survivors also include three brothers, John P. Smith, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Michael Smith, of Kennett and Stan Matlock, of Marston, Mo. and six sisters, Francis Kemp and Crystal J. Stewart, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Mary H. Smith and Barbara Daughtery, both of Lansing, Mich., Judy Gaines, of Hayti and Jeannie Wilcher, of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Smith and one sister, Jacqueline Smith.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the John W. German Funeral Home in Hayti with Bishop B.A. Armour officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in the Evergreen cemetery at Hayti.

Irene Bell

Irene Bell, 79, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at her residence.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Memorial Gardens cemetery with the Rev. Bud Evans officiating.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
