Doris E. Soderstadt
Oct. 16, 1925 - Nov. 12, 2001
Doris E. Soderstadt, 76, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Soderstadt was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Sugar Creek, the daughter of Sterling and Freeda Watkins. She graduated from the Anderson High School with the class of 1943. She had worked in data processing for Armco Steel until her retirement, and was a member of Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Soderstadt.
Her survivors include two sisters, Bess Hampton, Springfield, Mo., and Pat Downs, Holt, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Nov. 16, 2001, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial was in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.

Lillian Hutchings
July 31, 1916 - Nov. 19, 2001
Lillian Hutchings, 94, of Clarksville, Ind., formerly of Pineville, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Clark County Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Ind., after an illness.
Mrs. Lillian Hutchings was born Aug. 26, 1907, in Charlestown, Ind., to the late Henry A. and Mary (Kempster) Schafer. She had lived in Pineville, Mo., for 50 years before returning to Indiana in 1997. While in Pineville, she a member of the Pineville United Methodist Church, the Pineville Extension Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Tri-County Bridge Club. She enjoyed painting, the out-of-doors and helping others.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother and her husband Esten C. Hutchings, who died Aug. 31, 1973. Survivors include one brother, William G. Schafer of Clarksville, Ind.; one sister, Bertha A. Teeple of Charlestown, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lillian Hutchings has been cremated in Indiana. A memorial service for Mrs. Lillian Hutchings will be held Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Pineville United Methodist Church in Pineville, Mo. The Rev. Doris Schlessman will officiate. At 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, the ashes will be interred at the VA Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark., next to her husband.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Hutchins may be given to the Pineville United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.

Ivan W. Rowe
Jan. 13, 1924 - Nov. 27, 2001
Ivan William Rowe, 77, Wheaton, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at the home of his daughter in Wheaton, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Rowe was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Stella, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a rural letter carrier for the Stella Post Office, retiring in 1988. He had served on the school board of the Stella Schools, was active in the Stella softball league, a member of the Rocketdyne Road Church of Christ in Neosho. He and Margaret Jean Bankson were married Feb. 2, 1946, in Cedar Town, Ga., and she preceded him in death June 28, 1997.
He is survived by one son, Bill Rowe of Joplin, Mo.; three daughters, Carolyn Ellis of Fairview, Mo., Sharon McBride of Wheaton, Mo., and Melissa Boehnke of Cocopaxi, Colo.; a sister, Helen Kelly of Branson, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Mills, March 1, 1987; a granddaughter; and a sister.
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Troy Risley will officiate.
Burial will be in the Hazelgreen Cemetery, Boulder City, Mo., and pallbearers will be Brad Rowe, Jeffrey Rowe, Jeremy McBride, Lincoln Littlefield, Brad Lyerla, Danny Beardsley and Jimmy Burton.
Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home in Neosho.

Warren D. Harter
Feb. 23, 1922 - Nov. 6, 2001
Memorial services for Warren Dale Harter, 79, of Bandon were held at the Christian Church in Reedsport, Ore., Nov. 10, 2001.
He was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Joplin, Mo. He died Nov. 6, 2001, at Bandon, Ore.
Dale was a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant in the European Theater and was awarded two Bronze Stars and the French Croix de Guerre.
In 1950 Dale moved to the west coast and lived in the Florence and Reedsport areas. He worked at the sawmill in Gardiner for about 35 years until retiring.
Dale loved God, his family, friends and the great outdoors. He liked to fish, hunt and go for drives all over this part of the country, especially on logging roads. He also loved to help his friends and spent many hours helping to cut and haul firewood.
He is survived by his wife, Lucia Harter of Bandon; son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Barbara Harter of Florence; daughters, Catherine Cluver and Cassandra Harter, both of Roseburg; step-children, Pete Peterson of Reedsport, Dennis and Sherry Yarbrough of Bandon, Gary Yarbrough of Longview, Wash., Mary and Don Holt of Alaska and Anette and Rpy Brainard of North Bend; son-in-law, Bill Shepherd of Florence; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Dorothy Tuttle of Wheaton, Mo.; and brother Dean Harter of Wheaton, Mo.

Betty D. Sutherland
March 11, 1927 - Nov. 21, 2001
Betty D. Sutherland, 74, of Independence, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at the Independence Regional Health Center in Independence.
Betty was born March 11, 1927, in Pineville, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area since 1959. She was a member of the Eden Heights congregation of the Community of Christ Church.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd R. Sutherland of the home; two brothers, John E. Jeffers of Langley, Okla., and Harold R. Collins of Pineville, Mo.; and one sister, Patricia R. Dowdy of Bella Vista, Ark.
Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial was in Mound Grove Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Speaks Suburban Chapel.

Bob Thurman
Nov. 21, 2001
Robert Thurman, 59, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001.
He was raised in McDonald County, Mo., and graduated MCHS in 1959. He worked at Earthworks Construction in Neosho.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 24, at Parker Mortuary Chapel. He was buried in Carl Junction Cemetery.

Lewis Daniel Houser
Nov. 21, 1911 - Jan. 30, 2002
Lewis Daniel Houser, 90, Gladstone, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in the North Kansas City Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Houser was born Nov. 21, 1911, in McDonald County, Mo., to Charles and Ethel Houser. Upon graduation from high school he entered Oklahoma State University, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. He taught trade and industrial arts in the Pryor Public School system in Pryor, Okla., retiring in 1976. He came to Carthage in 1976 and lived there until moving to Gladstone, Mo., in 1995.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He married Rosemary Karnes May 7, 1939, in Neosho, Mo. She survives.
Other survivors include his daughter, Sherea Lynn Blanton of Gladstone, Mo.; two brothers, James Houser of St. Paul, Minn., and Robert Houser of Redding, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
One sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
Graveside services were held Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Neosho, Mo. The Rev. Keith Miles officiated. Memorial gifts may be made to the Blind Association in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo.
