Funeral Service will be Monday, December 9th, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Klein will officiate. Mr. Henk was born September 8, 1927 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of F. Walter and Elizabeth Schademan Henk. He and Lora Nussbaum were married October 19, 1952. She survives. Other loving survivors are two sons, Douglas Henk of Warrenville, Illinois and Kevin Henk of Benton, Illinois; two daughters, Debra Henk of Ironton, Missouri and Becky Jarvis of Makanda, Illinois; one brother, Merle Henk of Snowshoe, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Henk served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. He worked many years as a branch manager for Gooding Rubber in Benton, Illinois, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, and had held various church offices. He was a member of the Marble Hill Rotary Club, a board member of Marble Hill Senior Housing, past President of Cape County Square Dancers Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ruth B. Klingman, age 77, passed away Monday, December 2, 2002, at Eldercare Nursing Center in Marble Hill. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with interment in Russell Heights Cemetery. Monsignor Edward Eftink will officiate. Ruth was born May 21, 1924 in Brighton, Alabama, daughter of Stanley and Ida Nance Bruce. She married Phillip Klingman. He preceded her in death. Loving survivors include her son, Mike Kilhafner of Marble Hill; daughter, Joanne Gregory of Waynesville, North Carolina; two sisters, Francis Cobb of St. Petersburg, Florida and Martha Schoenacher of Crystal River, Florida; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In additional to her husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons and a brother.
Ruth worked many years as a registered nurse in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1994, she moved from St. Petersburg and lived near her son in Marble Hill until moving to Eldercare in 2000. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Mrs. Bullard was born March 20, 1907 in Cape Girardeau, daughter of William R. and Mary A. Woosner Townsend. She married Ben H. Bullard December 7, 1929, he passed away February 1987. Loving survivors include a son, Ben A. Bullard of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Glenda Abbott, Joyce Deimund, Mary Standridge of Cape Girardeau, and Ruth Bodkin of St. Louis; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. A lifelong resident of Cape Girardeau, Mrs. Bullard was a member of Calvary Temple in Cape Girardeau where she formerly taught Sunday School for 35 years.

Robert was born February 8, 1947 in Fredericktown, Missouri, son of Eddie and Rose Walker Jones. He and Nelda Seabaugh were married July 19, 1976. Loving survivors include his wife of Texaco, Illinois; a brother, William Bill R. Jones of Oak Ridge, Missouri; and a sister, Brenda Jerrell of Anna, Illinois. In 1970, Robert graduated from Southeast Misosuri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He had worked for Kraft Foods, Wausau Insurance Company, the former Schapers IGA in Jackson and IGA in Metropolis, Missouri. In 1986, due to failing health, he retired from Phillip Morris.

Vallie was born September 4, 1906 in Marquand, Missouri, daughter of Robert L. and Jenny Cloninger Sitze. She and Rev. Arvel Hawn were married February 10, 1926 at Glen Allen. He passed away April 8, 1972. Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Agatha Hawn of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Maxine Barrett (the late Sherman Barrett) of Marquand; two sisters, Vertis Mouser of Jackson and Lela Mouser of Glen Allen. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Barbara Ford, Lloyd Barrett, Brenda Mueller, Pam Bandermann, Tim Patrick, and Soni Crader; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-step-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers; six sisters; and one great-granddaughter.
The Hawns farmed several years near Glen Allen and moved to Jackson in 1954, where Vallie worked as a waitress at various restaurants. A devoted pastor's wife, she assisted her husband in his ministries in Wayne, Madison, Perry, Bollinger, and Cape Girardeau Counties. As an active member of First Baptist Church in Jackson since 1954, she had worked in Children's Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, JOY Choir, and WMU. He and Emma Wessel were married in 1938. Loving survivors include his wife of Boulder, Colorado; two daughters, Joyce Gibson of Fayette, Missouri and Karen Apprill of Boulder; one son, Richard L. Smith of Holland, Michigan; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Smith served in the U.S. Maritime Service during WWII. He and his wife resided 37 years in Rolla and in 1982, he retired from the University of Missouri after 22 years of service. In 1997, due to failing health, he and Emma moved to Boulder. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Monsignor Edward Eftink will officiate. Longman was born May 30, 1929 at Herrin, Illinois, son of Walter J. and Ida Hiller Longman. He and Anita Catani were married November 12, 1953 at Herrin. Loving survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Longman of Fruitland and Lonnie Longman of Jackson; two daughters, Kendra Boos of Gordonville and Nancy Toombs of Ste. Genevieve; two brothers, Walter Longman of Jacksonville, Florida and Jack Longman of Cave Junction, Oregon; one sister, Carolyn Hollowell of Paducah, Kentucky; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Longman was a 1947 graduate of Herrin High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy in Korea. In 1956, he graduated from Southern Illinois University. He worked 20 years in management at the former hosiery mill in Jackson and 10 years as a supervisor at Recticel Foam in Cape Girardeau. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, he was a 4th degree member and former Deputy Grand Knight for its Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and a past president of the Jackson Jaycees.

Loving survivors include her son, Rick Kolschowsky of Las Vegas, Nevada; two daughters, Vicki Sander of Bloomsdale and Robyn Karlavage of Las Vegas; her parents of Kingman, Arizona; a sister, Marilyn Forkner of Temecula, California; and six grandchildren. Carolyn lived in California most of her life. She worked in the casino industry in Las Vegas. Upon returning to Jackson, she attended Haynes Chapel Church.

Mrs. Wiggins was born December 16, 1927 at Neelys Landing, Missouri, daughter of Jason and Lillian Williamson Craft. She and Roscoe Eugene Wiggins were married July 5, 1946. He passed away June 30, 1980. Loving survivors include a daughter, Beverly Wiggins of Jackson; three sons, Ronald Wiggins and Terry Wiggins of Pocahontas, Billy Wiggins of Fredericktown; four sisters, Kathryn Penrod, Pat Schenimann, and Delores King of Jackson, Judy Ward of Millersville, a sister in law Dean Craft of Millersville ; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Lyman Craft, and one sister, Peggy Smith.
Betty had been working in housekeeping at Cape Residential Care in Cape Girardeau. She previously worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson and the Monticello House in Jackson. She was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Pocahontas, an active member of its WMU, and had taught Sunbeams. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Cape Girardeau and was an active volunteer at the Missouri Veterans Home.

Paul worked for Missouri State Parks as a heavy equipment operator and retired in 1989. He then worked part-time at Trail of Tears State Park.

Loving survivors include his beloved wife, Connie, of 60 years; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Thomas Caughlan of Oakville, Missouri; a sister, Irene Reed of Vandalia, Illinois; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Ollie served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson. He worked in heating and air conditioning most of his life in Florida and Missouri. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and formerly served as an elder and Sunday School Teacher. Cape Girardeau: Willard Rob Robinson, age 86, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Robinson was born August 20, 1916 at Taylorville, IL the son of W. A. and Jean Small Robinson. He married Hattie Lee Miller on February 17, 1946. She preceded him in death on March 16, 2002. Loving Survivors include a sister-n-law, Dorothy Miller of College Station, TX, two nieces Martha Daniels of Lubbock, Tx and Barbara Scholl of Scottsdale, AZ, and a nephew Dr. Richard R. Miller of Suunriver, OR. Mr. Robinson was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy from September 1940 until he retired in April 1960. While in the Navy he was stationed aboard the USS California, docked at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii at the time Pearl Harbor was attacked. He had received medals for service in the American Theatre, Philippine Liberation, and the Asiatic defense. After the service he went to work for the Department of Defense for many years in Washington, D.C. After he and Hattie retired from the Department of Defense they moved to Florida and then later moved to Cape Girardeau in 1990. There will be no service. McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson was in charge of the arrangements.

Raymond was born March 12, 1913, at Neelys Landing, son of Arthur and Nellie Abernathy Sides. He married Onis Clingingsmith on May 5, 1934. She passed away December 18, 1981. He and Clara Jackson were married January 6, 1983. Loving survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard and Don Sides of Jackson, Jerry Sides of Kirksey, Kentucky; five daughters, Zelma Robison and Joyce Newell of Oak Ridge, Jo Ann Finchum, Pat Craft, and Shirley Kester of Jackson; step-daughter, Delores Saunders of Hamburg, Illinois; three brothers, Esco Sides of Pacific, Missouri, Elmer Sides of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Arnold Sides of Blue Mounds, Illinois; and one sister, Erma Owens of Jackson. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren; 37great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother; a granddaughter; a grandson; and two great-grandsons. Raymond was a member of New Bethel Baptist church near Pocahontas where he formerly taught preschool Sunday School. He farmed many years and retired from the former LaPier and Sawyer Handle Factory. He then worked several years at Delmonico's in Jackson.

Ella was born March 15, 1918 near Poplar Bluff, Missouri, daughter of Francis L. and Pearlie Miller Uhl. She and Wesley Mac Tidwell were married July 11, 1943. He passed away April 19, 1993. Loving survivors include her husband; son, Corey King of Jackson; father, James Jim Turner of Jackson; mother, Esther Morie of Scott City; three brothers, David Turner of Jackson, Dennis Turner of Peoria, Illinois, and Douglas Turner of Farmington; and a number of nieces and nephews. She had worked 25 years as a teller at Union Planters Bank and the former Cape County Bank in Jackson; and five years for L. T. Masonry in Jackson. Mrs. Scott was born March 7, 1922 at Oran, Missouri, daughter of Daniel J. and Annie S. Beal Halter. She and William A. Scott were married August 11, 1942. Loving survivors include her husband; a brother, George Halter of Merritt Island, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three children; four brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. Scott was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral. A former resident of Eagle River, Alaska, she worked 17 years at Fort Richardson Army Base through the civil service.

Sophie was born March 9, 1909 at Dutchtown, daughter of Robert A. and Emma W. Kiehne Eggimann. She and Henry J. Wessel of Gordonville were married February 11, 1934 at Dutchtown. They lived at the family farm south of Gordonville throughout their marriage. Henry passed away October 23, 1999. Loving survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Sandi Wessel of Center Harbor, Hew Hampshire, and Paul and Gwyn Wessel of Port Angeles, Washington; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Emogene and Robert Schaffner of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, Norma Tschida of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Marion and Neil McClard of Seattle, Washington, and Gladys and Arthur Cojocari of Frederick, Maryland; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Marjorie Eggimann of Portland, Oregon; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Sophie was baptized at home on March 22, 1909, by Rev. C. C. E. Brandt. She attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on April 9, 1922 by Rev. Valentine Walther. She then attended College High School in Cape Girardeau, graduating in 1928. In 1931, she graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis and worked as a private duty and general duty nurse at Southeast Hospital until her retirement in 1971. A lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sophie served as one of the original Sunday School teachers. She was a charter member of the Ladies Aide, where she held a number of offices. She was a charter member of the Lutheran Home Auxiliary and had served as an officer and a volunteer; and was active for many years on the Board of Lutheran Family and Children's Services. Webster was born December 24, 1913 at Glen Allen, son of Arthur and Carrie Etta Mouser Cobb. He and Venah Mae Gibbs were married December 24, 1936. Loving survivors include his wife; son, Morris G. Cobb of Millersville; daughter, Janet Hill-Barnhart of Cape Girardeau; sister, Marie Sitze of Glen Allen; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Webster worked as a carpenter at the former Porcell Construction Company, Landgraf Construction, and Penzel Construction. He was a member of New Trace Creek Baptist Church. He was past Worshipful Master of Millersville Masonic Lodge #103, and a member of Eastern Star #310 in Millersville.

Mabel was born September 20, 1931, at McClure, Illinois, daughter of Maple and Ruby Klingemann Masterson. She and Troy Lee Skinner were married October 23, 1953. He passed away April 16, 1981. Loving survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Bobby Scowden and Brenda and Richard Lincoln, all of Whitewater; brother and sister-in-law, David and Edna Masterson of Jefferson City, Missouri; sister, Helen Miller of Fort Collins, Colorado; three grandchildren, Amber Richardson, Rachel and Dillon Lincoln; and two great-grandchildren, Haileigh and Caleb Richardson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Mabel was a 1947 graduate of Lutesville High School. From 1948 1959, she worked at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill. She and Troy owned and operated the former Troy Skinner Coin Laundry in southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and Kentucky. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries in Jackson, and was a former Girl Scout Leader. Mr. Heider was born September 3, 1914 in Cape Girardeau County, son of Karl L. H. and Minnie Pensel Heider. He married Lela Fay Schenimann. She preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Gene Heider of Jonestown, Texas; and brother, Carlton O. Heider of Webster Groves, Missouri. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Mr. Heider lived in Fruitland many years, moving to Willow Springs, Missouri in 1990.
He had worked in the Park Department for the City of Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

She and Joseph Earl Archer were married February 24, 1951. Loving survivors include her husband; two sons, Don and Bryan Archer of Jackson; daughter, Sheila Reynolds of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Archer worked 20 years at the former Lenco in Jackson and 10 years at the former Florshiem Shoe Company in Cape Girardeau.

Gertrude Gert Myers, age 68, formerly of the Jackson area, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at her home in O Fallon, Mo. She was born March 16, 1934 in Burfordville, daughter of Erma and Pansey Howard Eakins. She and Wayne Myers were married Jan 31, 1953. He survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mary Ladd of Knoxville, Tn, Betty Lambert and Donna Kruse of O Fallon; two brothers, Coy Eakins of Burfordville and L. T. Eakins of Jackson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a sister.
Gert was employed 28 years as a Nurse Assistant at Missouri Baptist Hospital.

Monsignor Edward Eftink will officiate. Mr. Schaefer was born February 20, 1919 at Oran, Mo., son of Lawrence and Mathilda Bullinger Schaefer. He and Christine Weissmueller were married May 30, 1941. Loving survivors include his wife; two sons, Leroy Schaefer of St. Louis, Harold Schaefer of Millersville; daughter, LaVerne Timke of Pekin, Il.; brother, Roy Schaefer of Washington, Il.; three sisters, Frieda Scheffer and Dora Koehler both of Jackson and Rose Marie Bogus of Benton, Mo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Mr. Schaefer served in the U.S. Army from June 1942 through February 1946. He worked many years as a truck driver for Potashnick Construction, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, and the VFW in Cape Girardeau.

Frances K. Hahs

Frances K. Hahs, 82, passed away at 10:30 AM Monday, November 4, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born February 17, 1920, near Old Appleton, Missouri, daughter of George and Sophia Schlueter Kasten. She married Truman P. Hahs October 5, 1941. He preceded her in death January 11, 1959. Mrs. Hahs was a member of Zion United Methodist Church at Old Appleton, where she served as one of the church pianists and was an active member in the women's organization. She dedicated many years to community 4-H clubs, served as a coordinator for American Cancer Society drives, worked as a county election judge, and enjoyed membership in Cheerful Country Doers Extension Club. Those who cherish her memory are:

He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was formerly active on various committees, served as an elder, and was active in the Lutheran Men's Club. Loving survivors include her husband of Cape, three sisters, Virginia Lee Gremore of Sikeston, Phyllis Williams of Arnold, and Marilyn Bollinger of Jackson; two brothers, Jerry McDowell and Harold McDowell both of Jackson; four nieces and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Davault was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cape and was very active in the women's organization at the church and served as the coordinator of the Meals on Wheels at the church. She was a graduate of Jackson High School and also of the former Steimle Business College in Cape. She worked for 42 years at the former Centerre Bank and First National Bank in Cape. She started her career in the Bookkeeping department and when she retired in 1989 she was an auditor at the Bank. Mrs. Davault served as President of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association for many years.

On August 26, 1927 she and Jesse Wille were married and he passed away on October 24, 1967. Loving survivors include three sons, Wilbur Friese, Leonard Wille and Clement Wille, all of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Alvin J. Seabaugh, age 81, of Whitewater, MO, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at his home. He was born at Randles, Missouri on April 9, 1921 to Dollie Smith Seabaugh. He was married to Nora Nelda Bock on April 1, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church, Gordonville, MO. He is survived by his wife; four sons and their wives, Darrel and Bette (Werder) Seabaugh, Dennis and Linda (Estes) Seabaugh, Dallas and Donna (Henson) Seabaugh, and Doug and Jackie (Rauh) Seabaugh, all of Jackson; two daughters and their husbands, Janet and Harvey Loenneke of Jackson, and Jennifer and Mark Landewee of Cape Girardeau; twelve grandchildren and spouses, Rachel (Seabaugh) and Terry Underwood, Abigail (Seabaugh) and Mark Ahrens, Tim Seabaugh, Daniel and Becky Loenneke, Cynthia (Loenneke) and Mike Williams, David Loenneke, Mark and Jodi Seabaugh, Kendra Seabaugh, Scott and Danni Seabaugh, Staci Seabaugh, Tyler Seabaugh, Dillon Landewee; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia Loenneke, Austin Seabaugh, and Dalton Seabaugh; and one step-great-grandchild, Kayla Ahrens; two brothers, John and Don Seabaugh of Whitewater, and three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Ruby) Hester and Betty Hicks, both of Chaffee, and Mrs. Jimmy (Carolyn) Gibbons of Leopold. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Abernathy; one granddaughter, Amy Abernathy; and one grandson, Darren Seabaugh. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and two infant sisters. Alvin joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1940 serving in the state of Oregon. He returned to the Whitewater community to farm until a stroke in 2000 rendered him unable to farm. Alvin enjoyed interacting with area farmers representing O's Gold and Asgrow Seed Companies for 24 years. He also enjoyed his livestock which were his pride and joy. Alvin was baptized and joined Zion Lutheran Church of Gordonville in 1945. He served as a Trustee Elder and was a faithful member for 57 years until his death. In March 2000, cancer forced him to leave his most recent job at the Show-Me Center in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Faith Baptist Temple in Cape Girardeau and a former member of New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas.

Carla was the valedictorian of the 1976 graduating class of Delta High School. She attended Southeast Missouri State University while working as a staff reporter at the Southeast Missourian Newspaper, and in 1979 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications. In 1992, she graduated from the University of Missouri - St. Louis with an Accounting Degree. She presently was co-owner of Time No More, an innovative sales corporation headquartered in Cleveland, Georgia. She was a member of the Grace Church of St. Louis and held Bible studies in her home.

During World War II, Lucille worked at Carter Carburetor in St. Louis. She and Rex resided in St. Louis until 1984 when they moved to Whitewater. In 1985 they became members of Whitewater United Methodist Church where Lucille was active in the UMW. She was a member of Whitewater Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Matron. She received her 50-Year pin in 2001. She was also active in the Delta Senior Citizens. Mr. Young was a 1956 graduate of Delta High School. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. After the service he worked at the former Harris Truck and Trailer and then worked 18 years Wetterau, retiring in 1995. Mr Young was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Jackson, where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher for the Young Adults Class. Mildred worked 43 years as a fitter at the former International Shoe Company in Jackson, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson where she formerly taught Sunday School in the children's department and was active in the Concordia Guild. She was treasurer of the Community Senior Citizens Center in Jackson and formerly participated in the ladies bowling league at the Jackson Bowling Lanes.

Gilbert was born September 11, 1918, in Friedheim, the third child of the late Joseph and Emma Kester. On February 16, 1947 he and Bettye Louise Siemers were united in marriage. They celebrated 55 years of marriage prior to her death on May 19, 2002. Loving survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Timothy Anderson and Patricia and Gary Dolle all of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Kristopher and Rebecca Dolle and Brent and Katharine Haberman; one brother, Albert Kester of Friedheim; and one sister, Letha Moore of Oak Ridge. A brother, Alfred Kester, preceded him in death.
Gilbert was a graduate of Perryville High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University and extension classes from the University of Missouri-Columbia. His career included sales and upper management positions in the insurance industry for over 25 years. He also taught school for several years and bred livestock with his late brother, Alfred, for over 22 years. At the time of his death, he was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim and had held various positions on the church council. Avidly interested in genealogy, he published two family genealogy books and consulted on numerous other related publications. He and Bettye lived in Cape Girardeau for more than 40 years before retiring to the family farm in Friedheim in 1985. Dr. Amelon received his bachelor of science and master of science degree, and in 1969, his doctorate from the University of Columbia. He taught high school at Salisbury High School in Salisbury, Mo., and later at Webster Groves High School in Webster Groves, Mo. From 1958 1979 he was a professor of Industrial and Technical Education at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. He helped organize the Southeast Missouri Industrial Association and also initiated the Electronics program at SEMO and sponsored the ITE Club. In 1958, he moved to Jackson area and has been a member of the St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape where he had served as an elder. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy.

He was born October 27, 1942 in St Louis County, son of Lonnie W. and Earlie Harrold Leigh Sr. He was a member of St. James AME Church in Cape Girardeau and a member of the St Andrew's Masonic Temple in St Louis. He formerly served as a president of the NAACP in Jefferson County, MO, and was a member of the Musician's Local Union in St Louis. He is survived by 15 children, a brother, Rev D. Mical Campbell, and a sister, Rev. Leoma Williams, both of St Louis, and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Everett Volz. Eulalia was a member of Caney Fork Baptist Church near Oak Ridge where she sang in the choir and formerly taught Sunday School and Bible School. A loving and devoted mother, she was also an accomplished artist and especially enjoyed painting rural, nature, and animal scenes. She also played the organ. Eulalia's family and friends will forever remember her as a wonderful mother, true friend, and as their guiding light. Bertha was a lifelong member of the Pocahontas community. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church at Pocahontas on January 23, 1916. In 1943, she became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Pocahontas and was active in the Ladies Aid. She moved to Jackson in February, 1999. Mr. Kinder was preceded in death by one son Donald L. Kinder, one grandson, two brothers, and four sisters.

Carlton passed away August 28, 2002. Loving survivors include a son, Keith Rollins of El Segundo, Ca.; four daughters, Glenda Mallett of Malden, Mo., Cindy Owens of Salem, Il., Lori Bradford of Ravenden, Ar., Debbie Leonard of El Segundo; foster daughter, Melissa Nelson of Maynard, Ar.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Jerry McBroom of Pevely, Mo., Darrell McBroom of Oak Ridge, Tn., Bill McBroom of Dexter, Mo.; and three sisters, Betty Risse of Columbia, Il., Lena Rogers and Pat Blankenship of Dexter. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
In 1977, Sue retired from the former Brown Shoe Company in Bernie, Mo. From 1977 1990, she worked at General Motors in St. Louis, Mo. and Oklahoma City, Ok.; and in 2000 she retired from Silver Dollar City at Branson, Mo. She then moved from Kimberling City, Mo. to Jackson. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Jackson.

Mrs. Bodenschatz was raised in the Shawneetown community and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She and Martin lived many years in the New Wells community and were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Scordato lived in Chicago most of their lives. He worked 25 years for Belltone Hearing Aid and then established Tempo Musical Instruments. An avid and dedicated musician, he also played professionally with several big bands in Chicago. Three years ago, the Scordatos moved to Jackson. They became members of Covenant Worship Center in Fruitland where Mr. Scordato served on the worship team. JACKSON, MO: Dr. Douglas Warren Salzman, Jackson Chiropractor, age 75, died at his home Sunday, September 1, 2002. He was born April 11,1927, at Shawano, Wis., son of John Gottlieb Salzman and Alma M. Raddant. He and Paula Strickland were married January 23, 1949, at First Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo. Dr. Salzmann graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City in 1958, and was a member of Beta Chi Rho Chiropractic Fraternity. Dr. Salzmann moved with his family to Jackson on Labor Day weekend 1958 to establish a chiropractic practice and served the people of this community until his retirement in February 1997. Dr. Salzmann served in the U.S. Army during World War II and again in the Korean War serving as a medic with the 101 Evacuation Hospital. Following his graduation he became a member of the American Chiropractic Association and served his profession in several capacities receiving the following awards over the course of his long service to his fellow man as a doctor of chiropractic. He was presented an award for outstanding service by Missouri State Chiropractic Association in June 1979, and chosen as Outstanding Chiropractor for the year 1984 by Southeast Missouri Chiropractors. Dr. Salzmann was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by Parker Chiropractic Research Foundation of Ft. Worth, Texas in July 1964, where on occasion he was a speaker at their seminars. He served several terms as representative to Missouri Chiropractic Association of Southeast Missouri Chiropractic Association. He was responsible for conducting educational seminars for his profession, bringing many outstanding educators to this area as speakers. Survivors include his wife, Paula; a son, David of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Donna Catt of Sikeston,Mo., Dr. Diana Salzmann-Martin of Marietta, Ga., and Deborah D Onofrio of Benton, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Anthony Catt of Belleville, Ill., Matthew Catt of Little Rock, Ark., Anthony, Stasia and Vittoria D Onofrio of Alexander, Ark., Miranda Martin of Marietta, Devon Salzmann of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Pearl Spang of Bradenton, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a sister, and three brothers.
Dr. Salzmann was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the time of his death.
A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, September 7, at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Dr. Grant Gillard will officiate. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Mrs. Morton was a life long resident of Oak Ridge. She was a 1935 graduate of the Oak Ridge High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge. In April, 2000, they moved to Sedgewickville. Joe was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Tilsit. He played dart ball many years on the St. Paul Lutheran Dart Ball Team. He was also a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, and a sister.
Bob served in the U.S. Army from April 3, 1946 May 4, 1947 and was awarded a World War II Victory Medal. During the Korean occupation, he was a radio operator. He then worked for Ingram Barge Line and the former International Shoe Company in Jackson. In 1954, he began a 32-year career working for the Missouri Department of Transportation Maintenance in Cape Girardeau County. He retired in 1986. Bob was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, and a member of the former Cape Girardeau County Civil Defense. He was preceded in death by his father.
Mike was a 1966 graduate of Jackson High School. He has worked for the former Atlas Plastics Company of Cape, Obernmann and Son, of Jackson, Cotner Electric, and United Electric Supply of Cape for the past seven years, and most recently Schott Electric of Cape. He was a veteran during Vietnam, having served in the US Army from 1966 -1971.
He was a member, past commander, and current finance officer, of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post #158 in Jackson; a member of the Honor Guard; and an avid Street Rodders fan. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Alice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sarah Nussbaum of Gordonville, Mo.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mildred and Clarence Grebing of Frohna, Mo., Evelyn Aumann of Decatur, IN, Marie and Joe Hoffmeister of Jackson. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Rhonda and Kent Grebing, Denise Morrison, Martin Aumann, Laura Kukelhan, Sarah Butler, Martha Ahrends, and Andrew and Elizabeth Nussbaum; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, two grandsons, four brothers, and five sisters. Friends may call between 4-8 PM, Sunday, August 11th, at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and after 9:30am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 12th, at the church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Rev. Karl Leeman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church Organ Fund or The Lutheran Home.

New Wells: Naomi Koch, age 75, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Funeral Service will be Friday at 10:00 AM, at the church, followed by interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Ronald C. Paseur will officiate. Mrs. Koch was born June 19, 1927, at Farrar, Mo., daughter of Rudolf and Louise Wiebrecht Lorenz. She and Melvin E. Koch were married June 29, 1947. He passed away August 13, 1992. Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Janis Koch of Altenburg; two sisters, Carol Haertling of New Wells and Brenda Borgfield of Altenburg; a granddaughter, Rachelle Koch of Perryville; two step-grandsons, Keith Latham of Fruitland and Kevin Richard of Cape Girardeau. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Delbert Lorenz. Mrs. Koch was a member of Immanuel Church where she was a member of the choir and sang for many weddings. She worked on the family farm with her husband until 1993, when ill health forced her to retire. She also made and sold cooked cheese in New Wells and Cape Girardeau. Millersville: Susan E. Lizzie Welker, age 88, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral Service will be Thursday, August 8th, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home, followed by interment in Old Salem Cemetery near Daisy. Rev. James Brown will officiate. Mrs. Welker was born July 6, 1914, at Grassy, daughter of William D. and Lucy Quinn Newell. She and Fred O. Welker were married January, 1934. He passed away December 16, 1986. Loving survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Oscar and Rosemund Welker and Mike and Carolyn Welker all of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Jim Tankersley of Millersville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter; three brothers, a sister. Mrs. Welker was a member of Christ Gospel Church in Millersville.

Cape Girardeau: Dorothy Lucille Scholz, age 81, passed away Monday, August 5, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center. Funeral service will be Thursday, August 8th, at 2 PM, at Bethlehem General Baptist Church in Crump, followed by interment in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson. The Revs. Joe Allen and J.D. Hargraves will officiate. Mrs. Scholz was born January 5, 1921, at Whitewater, daughter of Bernard S. and Hester Proffer Eakins. She and Marvin E. Gene Scholz were married March 5, 1938. He passed away October 31, 2001. Loving survivors include two daughters, Shirley Gregory of Cape Girardeau and Cathy Campbell of Las Vegas, Nevada; a brother, Doyle W. Eakins of Whitewater; five sisters, Deltha Crader and Della Mae Abernathy both of Jackson, Delma Stroder of Marion, Illinois, Deanna Friedrich of Oak Ridge, and Darlene Eakins of Whitewater. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter; a brother; and a grandson.
Mrs. Scholz was a longtime resident of Whitewater and a lifelong member of Bethlehem General Baptist Church. She had lived in Cape Girardeau since 1997.

Martha Lou Kelley

Jackson: Martha Lou Kelley, age 62, passed away Friday, August 2, 2002, in O Fallon, MO at the home of her son. Funeral Service will be Sunday, August 4th, at 2pm at the funeral home, followed by interment in Russell Heights Cemetery. Dr. Brian Anderson will officiate. Martha was born August 18, 1939 in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Charley Lee and Lelia O. Statler Seabaugh. She has lived in Jackson all her life and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Jackson. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1957 and attended Southeast Missouri State University for two years. In 1962, she graduated from Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She retired in 2002 after 36 years of employment from Southeast Missouri Hospital. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles & Angie Kelley and a grandson, Warren Kelley, all of O Fallon. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be Monday at 2 PM at the church. Burial will follow in Hanover Lutheran Church Cemetery. Sarah was born January 2, 1969 in St Louis, daughter of Kenneth E. and Rebecca Campbell Volkerding. She was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and was employed several years as a sales clerk at the Dollar General Store in Jackson. Survivors include her son, Joshua Volkerding of Jackson; parents, Kenneth and Rebecca Volkerding of Jackson; Fianc e, Tony Bolen of Jackson; three brothers, Kyle Volkerding of Cape Girardeau, and Kent, Don, and Tom Volkerding of Sunset Beach, CA; sister, Allyson Volkerding of Jackson; and maternal grandparents, Bill and Ruth Campbell of Jackson. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Nelson and Dorothy Volkerding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Birthright or Hanover Lutheran Building Fund.

Thelma "Marjorie" Petzoldt

Jackson: Thelma Marjorie Petzoldt, age 76, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at the Monticello House in Jackson. Friends may call Friday, August 2nd, after 2:00 PM, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM. Chris Jaco will officiate. Mrs. Petzoldt was born June 23, 1926 at Summersville, Missouri, daughter of Edward and Ethel Jones Belew. Loving survivors include five daughters, Ramona Joyce Stockton, Janet Jaco, and Jackie Shaw all of Jackson, Julia Meikle of Grove, Oklahoma, Jolene Vogel of St. Louis; ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister.
Mrs. Petzoldt resided in the New Wells Community many years. She worked 30 years as an OB Tech at Southeast Hospital, retiring in 1990, and thereafter moving to Grove, Oklahoma. In 2001, she returned to Jackson. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
