Alphia Borah, 79, of Senath, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Perry County Nursing Home in Perryville. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, in the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Senath. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the McDaniel Chapel with Rev. Vernon Purser officiating. Burial will be in the McGrew Cemetery in Senath.

Edith R. Duty
Edith Ruth Duty, 49, of Malden, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at her residence. Born Dec. 25, 1951, at Gideon, the daughter of the late Opie and Emmaline Davis Hogan, she was a homemaker and member of the Assembly of God Church. Surviving are a daughter, Melinda Webber, of Springfield; two sisters, Alma Morgan, of Campbell and Shirley Lewandowski, of Malden; four brothers, Kenneth Hogan, of Willow Springs, James Hogan, of DeSoto, Jerry Wayne Hogan of Granite City, Ill. and Rev. Gerald Hogan of Bowling Green, Ky. and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, in the Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden with the Rev. John Schlager officiating. Burial will be in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton.

Tommie L. Edwards
Tommie Lee Edwards, 87, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn. Born Sept. 2, 1913, in Princeton, Texas, daughter of the late Thomas G. and Ella G. Wallace Sloan, she married Lewis Edwards, June 3, 1943, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Sloan and two sisters, Jeffie Colgan and Neva Slicer. Surviving are a daughter, Patsy Ann Straub, of Paragould, Ark.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett with the Rev. Ed Jansson officiating. McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Mike Straub, Tim Straub, Rodney Gramling and Robert Straub.

James E. Hawkins
James Earl Hawkins, 75, of Malden, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the Malden Nursing Home. Born May 27, 1925, at Fulton, Ky., son of the late James R. and Essie Mae Brown Hawkins, he retired from the Buick Motor Co. at Flint, Mich. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Battle Star. He was a member of the Malden VFW, DAV and American Legion and was a senior deacon at the Spoonerville Baptist church at Malden. On Dec. 8, 1945, he married Wayver Louise Lester, in Piggott, Ark., who survives of the family home. Visitation will be at 6 o'clock this evening, Sunday, Feb. 18, at the Bradshaw Funeral Chapel in Malden. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at the Bradshaw Chapel with the Revs. Richard Blagg and Perry Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden with military honors. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Hawkins, of Phoenix, Ark. and Kathy Moore and her husband, Roger, of Campbell; a son, Gary Hawkins, of Malden; three sisters, Ruth Duffel and her husband, Richard, and Julie Foster and her husband, Guy, all of Clarkton and Phyllis Williams and her husband, Wayne, of Dexter; three grandchildren, Brandi Stoelting, of Nashville, Tenn., Chad Brink, of Phoenix and Tyler Stoelting of Campbell; and three great-grandchildren, Zack Brink and Sierra Brink, both of Phoenix and Abigail Plunkett of Nashville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Hawkins; two sisters, Margie Nell Hawkins and Virginia Burrow and two brothers, Joe Poe and Robert Lee Hawkins.

Jerry A. Presley
Jerry A. Presley, 60, of Steele, and formerly of Sikeston, died Friday, Feb. 16, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville, Ark. Born Jan. 17, 1941, in Sikeston, son of Emily Lou Waltrip Presley, of Sikeston and the late Gerald Robert Presley, he graduated from Sikeston High School in 1959. He attended Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, Ark., on a baseball scholarhip. He owned Surplus Grocery in Blytheville for 40 years. On March 17, 1963, he married Saundra L. Duke, who preceded him in death Aug. 20, 1989. Survivors include a son, Jerry Dale Presley, of Blytheville; two daughters, Tracy Sides and Nichole Rodgers, both of Sikeston; a brother, Lanny Presley, of Sikeston, a friend, Sue Rhoades, of Steele and four grandchildren. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Feb. 18, in the Nunlee Funeral Home Chapel in Sikeston with the Rev. Rodney Dunlap, assisted by John Mundy, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.

Llola Seabaugh
Llola "Beady" Seabaugh, 78, of Kennett, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the McDaniel Chapel with Rev. Dale Rickman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Edna Willard
Edna Willard, 89, of Malden, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Born Feb. 2, 1912, in Anniston, Mo., daughter of the late Ean and Lillion Bonnie Kestner, she was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Malden. On April 7, 1937, she married Jess Chappell, who preceded her in death March 22, 1952. On June 7, 1968, she married Archie C. Earnheart, who preceded her in death Feb. 2, 1984. She married Jess Willard on June 7, 1987, who preceded her in death July 10, 1996. Survivors include a son, Blaine Chappel and his wife, Carolyn, of Dexter; a daughter, Ruth Sifford and her husband, Jerry, of Carlinville, Ill.; a brother, Eurie "Butch" Kestner, of East Prairie; a sister, Margie Loveless, of Seattle, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Brian D. Young
Brian Dean Young, 36, of Fairdealing and formerly of Holcomb, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, at his residence. He was born April 11, 1964 in Kennett, son of Garfield and Shirley Dean Hamlett Young. Other survivors include a son, Brian Cody Young and a daughter, Kayla Young, of Doniphan and their mother, Rhonda Young, also of Doniphan; a brother, Michael Young, of Fairdealing and grandmother, Tessie Hamlett, of Kennett. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kenentt with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating. Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Steve Nichols, Larry Barnes, Kenny Shipman, Gaylon Crane, David Mashburn and Keith Griffin.

Dessie Carter
Dessie Mae Carter, of Senath, Mo., died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the Senath Nursing Cente. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, July 31, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jackie Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett.

Clarence Graham
Clarence Graham, 84, of Gideon, Mo., died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Gideon.

Geraldean Grant
Geraldean “Gerry” Grant, 74, of Malden, Mo., died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at her residence. Born Aug. 28, 1928, in Augusta, Ark., daughter of the late James and Magnolia Fobbs, she was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Malden, where she served as president of the Usher Board, chairperson of the Benevolence Fund, member of the WMU and kitchen committee and served on the Friendship District Consolidation Association of the Ushers Auxiliary. She was head dietician of the Ridgeview Nursing Manor. She married Willie Grant, who preceded her in death in Nov. 1967. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frances Couch and Bernice Norman and two brothers, Earnest Fobbs and Jack Green. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Burton and husband, L.C., of Kansas City, Mo., Delores Aikens and husband, Tony, of Kokomo, Ind., Katheryn Fobbs, of Jackson, Mo. and Debra Grant, of Malden; one adopted son, Rainey Mosbley, of Portageville, Mo.; one sister, Deborah Ross and husband, Halloween, of Jonesboro, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the Landess Funral Home in Malden. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Malden with the Revs. L.L. Williams and Otis L. Hawes, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Macedonia Cemetery in Malden.

Carl Howard
Carl Calvin Howard, 85, of Holcomb, Mo., died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at St. Bernards Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark. Born April 9, 1918, in Holcomb, son of the late Carl Calvin Howard, Sr., and Irene Steele Howard, he was a retired bookkeeper for Kennett Oil Mill, a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He was a member of the Holcomb Baptist Church. On August 12, 1939, in Van Buren, Mo., he married Lucille Young who survives of the home. Survivors also include two daughters, Karen Rose Howard of Holcomb and Linda Kay Rosamond and husband, Henry, of Whittier, NC. and one sister Wanda Woodall of Clarkton, Mo. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ernestine Howard.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, July 31 at the Woodlawn Cemetery-Landess addition in Campbell, Mo., with the Rev. Jack Allen officiating. Landess Funeral Home of Campbell was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Huggins
Ruby Frances Huggins, 80, of Paris, Texas, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at her residence. Born April 15, 1923, in West Plains, Mo., daughter of the late Louis and Bertha Davidson, she was a member of the Paris Church of God. On April 29, 1941, in Cardwell, Mo., she married Jack Huggins, who preceded her in death on December 29, 1993. Survivors include one son, Larry Huggins and wife, Nora of Paris, Texas; one daughter, Carolyn Herron and husband, Grady of Longview, Texas; four brothers, Fred, Glenn Ray, Cecil and Bob Davidson; three sisters, Joyce Malone of Arbyrd, Mo., Ella Mae Pritchard, and Maxine Sanders; five grandchildren, Tania Reily, Kevin and Victoria Huggins, Jason Herron and Gina Herron; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Brittany Huggins, Zach and Keri Herron. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, July 31 at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Arbyrd. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 1, at the Lulu Cemetery at Senath with the Rev. Leland Dement officiating.

Bobbie Mitchell
Bobbie Mitchell, 72, of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden.

Matthew Young
Matthew Lane Young, 1-month, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti, Mo. Born June 5, 2003, in Kennett, he was the son of Matt Young and Brooke Gibson of Caruthersville. Survivors also include a special brother, Dylan Babcock, of Caruthersville; maternal grandparents, Richard and Dawn Goodale, of Caruthersville; paternal grandparents, Frank Young, of West Plains, Mo. and Cylene Wallace, of Billings, Mo.; maternal great-grandparents, Carl and Nancy Goodale, Pat and Joyce Gibson and Dollie Peeler, all of Caruthersville and paternal great-grandparents, David and Christine Brewer, of Mammoth Springs, Ark. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the Temple Baptist Church in Caruthersville with the Rev. Jim Pilcher officiating. Burial was in the Maple Cemetery at Caruthersville.

Henry Mays
Henry Mays, 90, of Kennett, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at his residence. Born Feb. 27, 1912, in Bear Creek, Ala., a son of the late Noah Ark and Mollie Burlison Mays, he was a member of the Slicer Street Church of Christ in Kennett. He married Lillie Brittnell who preceded him in death. He later married Louella Gillihan Carnett who survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Dennis Mays of Kennett and Jimmy Mays of St. Peters, Mo.; a step-daughter, Joyce Bost of Kennett; four brothers, Clefus and Clebourn Mays both of Haleyville, Ala., Cecil Mays of Bear Creek. Lebourn Mays of Hamilton, Ala.; two sisters, Nora Lee Yielding of Hackleburg, Ala. and Pear of Louisiana; six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Sept. 29, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with Spencer Furby officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers are Michael Mays, Steven Mays, Keith Mays, Kahlon Mays, Richard Nixon, II, and Kyle Broker. Honorary pallbearers are Cameron Broker and Patrick Mays.

Pearl Rawlings
Pearl Irene Rawlings, 86, of St. Louis, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Delmar Gardens South in St. Louis. Born May 14, 1916, at Lilbourn, Mo., a daughter of the late Cammie and Maudie Lawson Whittington, she was of the Baptist faith. On Feb. 3, 1940, she married Millard Lee Rawlings who preceded her in death Jan. 25, 1986. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Jewel Whittington and Donna Jean Booker, one sister, Opal Ford and one grandchild, Reggie Rawlings. Survivors include two daughters, Ann Vancil of Arnold, Mo. and Sandra Barnes of Heber Springs, Ark.; two sons, Donald Rawlings of Malden and Dallas Rawlings of St. Charles, Mo., two brothers, Walter Whittington of Springfield, Mo. and Virgil Whittington of Troy, Mo.; five sisters, Atlanta Fuller of Rockford, Okla., Lorene Winston of Caseyville, Ill., Mary Lou Coleman of Collinsville, Ill., Ruby Box of Troy, Ill. and Shirley Parson of Cahokia, Ill., 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Jack Allen officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.

Ollie Truss, Jr.
Ollie Truss, Jr., 19, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002. Born June 23, 1983, in Hayti, Mo., a son of Joyce Eubanks and Ollie Truss, Sr., of Caruthersville, he was a student at Caruthersville High School. Survivors also includes six sisters, Arlene Truss of Oklahoma City, Okla., Yolanda Rodgers, Wentress Grady, Cassandra Eubanks, Joyce Truss and Latonya Eubanks, all of Caruthersville; two brothers, Dewayne Eubanks of Atlanta, Ga. and Maurice Eubanks of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandmothers Jessie Eubanks and Ruth Truss both of Caruthersville. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Lucy Mae and Hosea Eubanks and Helen and Percy Truss, Sr. Funeral services were 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the Pentecostal Power New Life Deliverance Temple in Caruthersville with the Rev. Jacquin Benson officiating. Burial was in Morgan Ridge Cemetery in Caruthersville.

James Childers
James Dwight Childers, 50, formerly of Hayti, Mo., died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Butner, N.C. Born Aug. 6, 1952, at Deering, Mo., he was the son of Darlene Anglin Childers, of Hayti and the late Edgar Clinton Childers. Survivors also include one brother, Kevin Edgar Childers, of Elsberry, Mo. and four sisters, Carlotta Jane Goddin, of Lake City, Ark., Dorothy Ann Beamer, of Winfield, Mo., Debra Sue Moore, of St. Louis, Mo. and Judith Faye Childers, of Hayti. Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 23, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with the Rev. James Robert Welch officiating. Burial was in the Portageville Cemetery at Portageville, Mo. Pallbearers were Robert Beamer, Kevin Childers, Gail Welch, Kevin Childers, Jr., Larry Jordan and Marty Culver.

Katie Earnhart
Katie L. Earnhart, 92, 0f Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at the Pemisoct Nursing Home in Hayti, Mo. Born March 3, 1910, in Lake County, Tenn., daughter of the late William Burr and Minnie Jane Shelton Woody, she was a seamstress, a former member of the Caruthrsville Woman’s Club and a very active member of the First Baptist Church. On Aug. 10, 1929, in Blytheville, Ark., she married Noel E. “Pete” Earnhart, who preceded her in death on April 29, 1999. Survivors include one daughter, Fran Smith, of Florissant, Mo.; three grandchildren, Laura Smith, of Frontenac, Mo., Linda Thompson, of Chesterfield, Mo. and Leslie Alberts, of Tremont, Ill. and four great-grandchildren, Kyle, Justin, Macy and Michael. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. James Adams officiating. Burial was in the Maple Cemetery. Pallbearers were Olin Parks, Earl Bullington, Lonnie Cagle, Wayne Brantley and Charlie Jones. H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.

Charlie Smith
Charles “Charlie” Smith, Sr., 79, of Hayti, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at the St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Born Dec. 4, 1923, in Memphis, Tenn., son of the late Charlie and Beatrice Smith, he owned his own upholstery business in Hayti. Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae Smith, of Hayti; two daughters, Beverly Smith and Angela Ruff, both of Hayti; two sons, Charles Smith, Jr., of Caruthersville, Mo. and Perry Smith, of Kennett; two brothers, Blair Smith, of Hayti and Melvin Webb, of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Zellaner McCullough, of Blytheville, Ark.; eight other children in Los Angele, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Smith, one brother, Jessie “Babe” Smith and one sister, Della Mae Smith. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Hayti with Elder Karl Humes officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Hayti. Pallbearers were Antjuan Ruff, Jeffery Richmond, T.J. Shallie, Clifford Peel, Toy Cagle and Robert Baker. Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Stokes, Billy Ray Hines, Melvin Webb, Robert Burton and Neto George. John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
