Carl Leslie 'Bug' Ice, 89
Funeral services for Carl Leslie "Bug" Ice of Fordland are set for 2 p.m. today (Wednesday), Oct. 9, 2002, at the Preston-Marsh Funeral Home in Rogersville with burial to follow in the Watts Cemetery. Mr. Ice, 89, died at 6:37 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour. He was born Jan. 19, 1913, in Douglas County to Alfred and Ida Cornet Ice. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On May 31, 1946, he was married to Qula Faye Deckard. Mr. Ice retired from MFA in Fordland and attended Grace Full Gospel and Higher Vision Worship Center in Rogersville. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Qula, in 1986; a brother, Albert; and a sister, Virginia. Survivors include two sons, Leslie Ice, Fordland, and Edward Ice and wife Lee, also of Fordland; three daughters, Joanna Glenn and husband Lonnie, Vonna McNish and husband Darrell, Loreda Garzee and husband James, all of Fordland; a stepdaughter, Patsy Pardee of Lyla, Wash.; one brother, Lester Ice and wife Lorene, Springfield; two sisters, Mary Shane of Springfield and Wanda Lee and husband Ray of Norfolk, Neb.; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grand-children.

Fern Lucinda Bean, 82
Memorial services for former Seymour resident Fern Lucinda Bean are set for 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at the Harmony Free Will Baptist Church southwest of Seymour with Pastor Roy Danels officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Ragsdale Cemetery, located behind the church, with Pastor Lyle Wright officiating. Visitation is set for 6:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday), Dec. 18, 2002, at the Fraker Funeral Home in Marshfield. Mrs. Bean, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002. She was born March 25, 1920, at Helena, Ark., the daughter of Harley and Nancy Ann Grandstaff VanHuss. United in marriage to Lymond Doyle Bean on Oct. 23, 1937, she was a loving mother and grandmother, along with a friend to everyone who knew her. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one daughter, Glenda Vallines; one son, Bob Bean; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her five chil-dren and their spouses, Doyle and Betty Bean of Sallisaw, Okla., Donna and Ed Hardison of Fairland, Okla., Rose Mary and Chuck Parker of Conway, Terry and Carolyn Bean of Beaullaville, N.C., and Jan and Patty Bean of Tacoma, Wash.; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Wilma Burks Grove of Fordland were held Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the Greenhill Cemetery in rural Ford-land, under the direction of the Preston-Marsh Funeral Home of Rogersville. Mrs. Grove, 93, died at 9:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at her home. She was born June 24, 1910, in Rogersville to Lon and Etta Rogers Ewing. Preceding her in death were her parents; three husbands, Glen Simmerman, James Alvia Burks and Carlos Grove; three sons, James and Bobby Burks and Edwin Grove; a daughter, Mary Uchtman; a brother, Elden Ewing; and her twin sister, Alma Burks. Survivors include one son, Edsel Grove and wife Janice of Cortland, Neb.; one daughter, Gaylene Glenn of Fordland; 15 grand-children, Angie Nettles and husband Steve, Sandra Glenn, Cynthia Pickett and husband Heath, Aman-da Medlock and husband Sam, Annetta Owens and husband Joe, Rick Uchtman, Vanessa Criger and husband Jack, Jeff Grove, Debbie Bilodeau, Shelly Ritter and husband Todd, Bryan Grove and wife Isabell, Heather Grove, Jennifer Milligan, Janell Carter and Julie Grove; 29 great-grandchildren, Victoria Allen, Keith Allen, Michael Crider, Stephanie and Colten Nettles, Kelsey, Heather and Zak Pickett, J.W. and McKenzie Medlock, Tony and Tim Owens, Jeffrey Criger, Leann Vines, Britney Grove, Trisha Sapp, Seth Letterman, Amber, McKenna and Samantha Grove, Cody Grove, Justin Bilodeau, Page, Nick and Ashley Ritter, Reid Carter, Madison, Mallory and Carlie Milligan; six great-great-grandchildren, Hattie, Matt and Tyler Owens, Cody, Britany and Makayla Vines; and a special little friend, Jessie Jones. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenhill Cemetery in care of the Peoples Bank of Fordland.

Damon M. Hume, 25
Graveside services for Damon Michael Hume of Seymour were held Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Gordon "Shorty" Heckendorn officiating, under the direction of the Fraker Funeral Home of Marshfield. Mr. Hume, 25, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in San Francisco, Calif. He was a self-employed electrician assistant. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Otis Helms, Lawrence and Reba Hume; a brother, Dwayne Hume; and two uncles, Dirl Helms and Dennis Hume. Survivors include his parents, Damon and Letha Hume of Seymour; a brother, Harold Hume of Seymour; his grandmother, Faye Helms of Seymour; a niece, Shelby Hume of Seymour; and several other relatives, including many aunts and uncles.

John Walton Boggess, 78
Funeral services for John Walton Boggess of Seymour were held Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour, with the Rev. Ira Bennett and the Rev. Larry Hyder officiating. Burial followed in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Boggess, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield after a recent illness. He was born March 1, 1925, near Seymour to John Woodward and Ernestine Walton Boggess. Born and raised in the Seymour community, he attended the Mountain Dale School north of Seymour through the eighth grade and was a 1941 graduate of Seymour High School. He attended the Sweeney Aircraft School in Kansas City from 1942 until graduating in 1943. He then worked for the U.S. Air Force at Wright Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio, and on the "Lady Be Good." In 1944, he returned to Seymour, where he farmed and also did carpentry work. On May 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Helen Newman. To this union, a son was born. After he and Dorothy were married, they made their home in Phoenix, Ariz., for a year, then they came back to Seymour. From 1952 until 1985, he worked for Chuck Carter as an L.P. gas and appliance serviceman, then continued in that same line of work on his own for several years. He made a profession of faith in Christ at the age of 16 and was an active member of the Old Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He also loved to sing with the Earn Cantrell group. For 15 years, he served as a volunteer fireman and adviser for the Southern Webster County Fire Protection District. Throughout his life, he maintained an interest in airplanes. He centered his life around his church and family, and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Virginia Lower. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy, of the home; a son, Dennis Boggess and wife Cheryl of Dexter; two grandsons, Christopher Boggess of San Francisco, Calif., and Joshua Boggess of St. Louis; two brothers, Philip Boggess and wife Lavonne of Springfield and Kenneth Boggess and wife Barbara of Mesa, Ariz.; and a brother-in-law, J.C. Newman of Seymour.

Robert L. Denner, 78
Funeral services for Robert L. "Bob" Denner of Seymour are set for 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday), Sept. 25, 2002, at the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour, with the Rev. Jerry Lee and Fred Denner officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery.
