IDA MARIE SOPHIA DETERDING
Ida Marie Sophia Deterding, 84, of Pleasant Hill, Mo., died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at her home.
Family receives friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at Stanley & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, at the funeral home, with Pastor L.H. Aurich and Pastor David Reimnitz officiants.
Casket bearers are Mike Deterding, Curtis Deterding, Gregory Deterding, Chad Deterding, Douglas McCommon, Christopher Deterding, Ryan Deterding and Joshua Deterding.
Burial is in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church.
Ida Marie Sophia was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Davenport, Neb., to Fred and Katherine Lindeman Sorge.
She married Willard E. Deterding on Sept. 16, 1934, in Deshler, Neb.
They moved from Knob Noster to Pleasant Hill 42 years ago.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, Pleasant Hill.
She was also a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on Nov. 1, 1997; three sons, Eugene, Everett and Noel Deterding; and 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by seven sons, Darold Deterding, Alton, Ill., Roger Deterding, Blue Springs, Larry Deterding and Merle Deterding, both of Independence, James Deterding, Louisburg, Kan., William Deterding, Wheatland, Mo., Parl Deterding, Daphne, Ala.; three daughters, Charlotte Dowding, Grandview, Marcele McCommon, Pleasant Hill, and Doris Christopher, Livermore, Calif.; 47 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

BEVERLY C. GRAHAM
Beverly C. Graham, 65, of Smithville, Mo., passed away Thursday, June 15, 2000, at her home.
Memorial services were 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, with inurnment at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithville.
The family received friends from 12:30 p.m. to service time Friday.
She was born April 1, 1935, to Floyd and Freda (Forth) Misner, Winston, Mo.
Beverly attended school and grew up in Winston and Smithville, and in 1953, she graduated from Smithville High School.
She lived and made her home in Smithville.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Smithville.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Rosa Lee Misner.
She is survived by a son, Gordon Graham, Higginsville, Mo.; two daughters, Gloria Graham, Harrisonville, Mo., and Glenda Stayton, Lee’s Summit; and seven grandchildren.

GEORGE S. KARVONIS
George S. Karvonis, 84, of Lee’s Summit died Monday, June 19, 2000, at White Ridge Health Center, Lee’s Summit.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Fairmount United Methodist Church
Contributions may be made to the church, 2119 Holke Road, Independence, MO 64057.
George was born Dec. 7, 1916, in Staten Island, N.Y.
He was a chef at several restaurants in the Kansas City area.
At 16 years old, he worked with his father in the restaurant business doing what he loved best - cooking.
His hobbies were fishing, golfing and gourmet cooking.
He was a member of the Sertoma Club, Raytown, Mo., service to mankind.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Karvonis, they married, June 17, 1990; three sisters, Sue Wright, Dora Heard, and Ann Gatlo; a brother, Ben Karvonis; and a daughter, Mary Kay; and was a loving husband, father, brother, grandpa and great-grandpa.
He is survived by a son, Ronald Hill, Lee’s Summit; sisters, Helen Crosby, Silverhill, Ala., Connie Pugliese, Auburn, Calif., five nephews; five nieces; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren

BERNICE B. RULE
Bernice B. Rule, 81, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Burlington, Iowa, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at Lunning Chapel, with Rev. Steve Parker, officiant and interment in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington.
Friends called after noon Friday, June 23, at the chapel.
The family receives friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association.
She was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Independence, Mo., to Floyd and Ida (George) Burgess.
She graduated Memphis High School, Memphis, Mo.
Bernice married James O. Rule on May 31, 1937.
She worked at Sears Roebuck, Sylvania Electric, R&S; Bottling, and as a housewife and mother.
She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Bernice was a member of the P.T.A., Cub Scout Den Mother and REACT of Branson, Mo.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James, on April 22, 1992.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Phyllis Rule, Blandinsville, Ill.; and daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Rukgaber, Kansas City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

AURORA ORTIZ GARCIA DE GUERRERO
Aurora Ortiz Garcia de Guerrero, 73, of Kansas City, Kan., died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Select Specialty Hospital.
Memorial services were 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, Lee’s Summit.
A Rosary was at 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Raul O. and Stacy Guerrero, Jorge A. and Dolores Guerrero, and Robert O. and Bedilia Guerrero; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Jose Zamora; grandchildren and spouses, Marcos K. Guerrero, Monique G.K. and John Sims, Jorge Antonio Guerrero, Laura E. Guerrero, Jessica B. Guerrero, Diana M. Guerrero, Luis Roberto Guerrero, Veronica C. Guerrero and Luis Manuel Zamora; a great-grandchild, Tyler Sims; three sisters; and a brother.

DOROTHY P. POLLARD
Dorothy P. Pollard, 84, of Lee’s Summit died Thursday, June 21, 2000, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Monday, June 26, at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Independence.
Friends called from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at the chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Elm Spring Baptist Church, 570 N.W. 1601, Kingsville, MO, 64061.
She was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Independence.
She and her late husband Richard Lee Pollard farmed for many years before his death in 1996.
She was a volunteer at Truman Medical Center East and a member of the genealogical society.
She was also a member of the Elm Spring Baptist Church, Kingsville.
She is survived by a niece, Kathy Turner, Oak Grove, Mo.; a step-brother, Herman Witschie; a cousin, Mildred Calahan; sister-in-law, Alice Newhard, all of Independence; and several other nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

LARRY DEAN BERTZ
Larry Dean Bertz, 60, of Lee’s Summit passed away Monday, June 26, 2000, at his home.
Services are noon Thursday, June 29, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence.
The family receives friends from 10 a.m. to service time.
Private entombment follows.

Larry had recently retired as quality control administrator for Hallmark Cards, Inc., after 41 years of service.
He was a member of the Independence American Legion Post No. 0021.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon S. Bertz, of the home; sons, Todd Bertz, Kansas City, Mo., and Erik Bertz, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; brothers, Dr. Wayne Bertz, Salem, Mo., and Sid C. Bertz, Anchorage, Alaska; his mother, Edith Bertz, Salem; and five grandchildren.

SHERYL MAY CULBERTSON
Sheryl May Culbertson, 30, of Lee’s Summit died Monday, June 26, 2000, at her home.
Memorial services are 1 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Mo.
Friends may call 11 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was born July 1, 1969, in Kansas City, Mo.
She is survived by a daughter, Ashley Tompkins, Lee’s Summit; her father and step-mother, Ed and Deby Culbertson, Lonoke, Ark.; her mother and step-father, Judy Culbertson and Eric Blockerzy, Lee’s Summit; four brothers, Ed Culbertson, Greenwood, Joe Culbertson and Steven Culbertson, both of Lee’s Summit, and Chad Culbertson, Lonoke, Ark.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
