Marjorie T. (Hon) Clewell, 71, Lee’s Summit, died May 29, 2004.
She was born Sept. 11, 1932, the daughter of Howard C. and Thelma (O’Dell) Hon.
Graveside services and burial were June 2 at at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, under the direction of the Wallace Funeral Home.

Everett Gamble
Oct. 9, 1918 - May 31, 2004
Everett F. Gamble Jr., 85, Sugar Creek, formerly of Archie, died May 31, 2004.
He was born Oct. 9, 1918, in Batesville, Ark., the son of Everett F. and Dollie (Condit) Gamble.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. June 3 with burial in Byler Cemetery, Creighton, under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Bernice L. Heaton
Nov. 7, 1913 - May 31, 2004
Bernice Lourene Heaton, 90, El Dorado Springs, died May 31, 2004.
She was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Wellsford, Kan., the daughter of James and Lula E. (Watson) Cockran.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. June 3 with burial in Highland Cemetery, Parker, Kan., under the direction of at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Archie.

John H. Kohler Jr.
Jan. 16, 1921 - June 1, 2004
John H. Kohler Jr., 83, Harrisonville, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at the United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, with Masonic services at 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at the church.
Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the church.

Olive M. Smrt
July 1, 1914 - May 27, 2004
Olive M. Smrt, 89, Harrisonville, died May 27, 2004. Services will be in North Judson, Ind., where she lived most of her life.
Surviving are four daughters, Charlene Smrt, Rose Wentz and Colleen Morton, all of Harrisonville, and Marsha Kletz, Monticello, Ill.; and a son, Charles Smrt, Lenexa, Kan.

Jacqueline Rosina Stevens
June 12, 1935 - May 25, 2004
Jacqueline Rosina Stevens left this world to be with our Lord Tuesday, May 25, 2004.
She was born June 12, 1935, in Norwich, England, the daughter of Cecil and Doris May (Hannent) Barber.
Jackie’s childhood in England was surrounded by the horrors of war, many times escaping bombs with only the protection beneath a tree or a kitchen table.
Her character as a “tomboy” in lace gave her the appropriate nickname as “Johnnie.”
Often when she became afraid she would remember her mother saying, “Johnnie, say your prayers and everything will be all right.”
Jackie moved to the United States in 1949.
She lived in New Jersey for two years before moving to Garden City.
On March 4, 1952, Jackie was united in marriage to Harris Stevens.
From that day on the couple of 52 years bonded together as one.
Both living their lives on their farm of 50 years, as loving servants to their children, grandchildren and their community.
Jackie and Harris never met a stranger, always willing to feed anyone who was hungry, even a stray dog or cat.
Jackie was a homemaker, as well as a farm hand with her husband, never afraid to be among the cows, pigs or shucking corn.
The only thing Jackie was afraid of in life and ran from was a camera and a turtle.
Jackie and Harris accepted Christ and went on to serve in the Dayton Community Church as youth group and Sunday school leaders, touching the lives of several generations.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Charles Rustin; and a great-granddaughter, Faith Ann.
Survivors include her husband, Harris, of the home; two daughters, Debbie Morgan and her husband, Ron, Archie, and Rhonda Morgan and her husband, John, Garden City; a sister, Sheila Edna Stuart, El Cajon, Calif.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The prayers of Jackie’s Family is that each husband and child in this world would have a loving lady as Jackie to share their lives with. Amen.
Services were May 28 at the Dayton Community Church, Dayton, with by Rick Blundell and Nelson Olinger officiating.
Burial was in the Austin Cemetery, near Archie,

Velma Marjorie Ryan
Dec. 29, 1922 - June 1, 2004
Velma Marjorie (Dunn) Ryan, 81, Archie, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kan.
She was born Dec. 29, 1922, in White Cloud, Kan., the daughter of Earl Lloyd and Anna Marie (Pratz) Dunn.
Dec. 4, 1942, she married Philip Henry Ryan.
They resided in Kansas City until April 1980 and upon retirement moved to Archie.
Mrs. Ryan was a member of the Christian Church.
She grew up in White Cloud and in 1940 moved to Kansas City, to attend Central Business College.
She worked for Thomas McGee & Sons Insurance Company from 1943 until 1980.
At her retirement, she was the assistant manager of the commercial casualty department and casualty underwriter.
She was a licensed Missouri insurance broker, past president of the Insurance Women of Greater Kansas City and past director of Region VII of the National Association of Insurance Women.
Velma loved contact bridge and was an avid reader, amassing a large collection of books.
Traveling and professional sports were also her passions and gardening was a source of pride.
She and her husband traveled routinely by car and took frequent trips to Laughlin, Nev.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Lahmer O. Dunn, Bellevue, Wash., and her husband, Philip, Sept. 19, 1999.
Surviving are her sister, Charlotte A. McManus, Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Virgil I. Dunn, Garland, Texas, and Donald L. Dunn, Hot Springs, Ark.; five nieces; seven nephews; 16 great-nieces and 12 great-nephews.
Cremation.
Visitation was from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 4, with a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Federation of the Blind.
Arrangements were under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Murray Charles Bertrand
Nov. 17, 1967 - May 12, 2006
Murray Charles Bertrand, 38, Harrisonville, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at his home.
He was born Nov. 17, 1967, in Saint Catharines, Ontario, Canada, the son of Earl Murray and Gloria Jean (Gaspich) Bertrand.
Mr. Bertrand worked as an assistant sales manager at Max Motors in Butler.
He had worked in the automotive industry for the past 12 years.
He enjoyed motorcycles and competition shooting.
Surviving are his companion, Tara Jo Rew, of the home; three sons, Raven Bertrand, Mason Rew and Bryce Rew, all of the home; a daughter, Taylor Bertrand, Peoria, Ill.; his father, Earl Bertrand, LaSarre, Quebec, Canada; his mother, Gloria Gaspich, Saint Catharines, Ontario, Canada; a brother, John Bertrand, Toronto, Canada; a cousin, Pat Bertrand, Stover, and an aunt, Christine Bertrand, Missouri.
Memorial services were at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, with Pastor Darren Widner, officiating.
Cremation.
Arrangements under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Ruby E. Bunger
March 8, 1923 - April 28, 2006
Ruby E. Bunger, 83, Harri­son­ville, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at Golden Years Care Center, Harrisonville.
A memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville.
Cremation.
Arrangements were under the direction of At­kin­son Funeral Home, Harrison­ville.
Contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Donald R. “Don” Carey
July 2, 1933 - May 13, 2006
Donald Ray “Don” Carey, 72, Harrisonville, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City,
He was born July 2, 1933, in Picher, Okla., the son of James Howard and Mildred Leona (Kennedy) Carey.
Nov. 27, 1953, he married Carole Beth Barnes in Picher.
Mr. Carey was employed as a senior engineering technologist for Allied Signal in Kansas City until his retirement in October 1993 and later was a substitute teacher for the Harrisonville School District at the Cass Career Center.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Harrisonville, where he was a former deacon and elder.
Mr. Carey was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the IAMAW Local No. 314, Kansas City, and a former alderman for the city of Harrisonville.
He moved to Harrisonville in 1960.
He loved his grandchildren, outdoors, fishing and boating.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Carole B. Carey of the home; two daughters, Tela Gough and husband, Ron, and Shelley Jansen and husband, Steve, all of Harrisonville; two brothers, Robert Carey, El Paso, Texas, and Joe Carey, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Marjorie Reeves, Picher; four grandchildren, Eli, Leah, Sarah and Anna; and other relatives and many friends.
Honorary bearers were Wayland Davis, Bill Gough, Jerry Gray, Bob Hodge, Mel Mathes and Jignesh Patel
Casketbearers were Ron Gough, Eli Gough, Steven Jansen, Jeremy Pettinger, Chris Richardson and Anthony Faulkenberry.
Services were Wednesday, May 17, at the First Christian Church of Harrisonville, with Dr. Edwin Peeples officiating.
LeeAnn McKee was the soloist and Susan Holden was the pianist.
Burial was in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Donald R. Carey CCC Scholarship Fund.
