Dorothy Gutshall
Dorothy Gutshall, 85, Trenton, Mo., and formerly of Gilman City, Mo., died October 9, 2002, at a Kansas City, Mo. Hospital.
Mrs. Gutshall was born in Bethany, Mo., on Oct. 1, 1917, the daughter of Henry Martin and Rebecca A. (Cook) Taylor. She married Lewis D. Gutshall on July 22, 1942, and he preceded her in death on March 21, 2001.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Orville, Ralph, Ray, Dee, and George Taylor, and four sisters, Jan Blanchard, Goldie Hogan, Lucille Hursman, and Marge Baker.
She leaves a daughter Penny Tolle, Trenton; three sons, Dr. Roger Gutshall, Hamilton, Dr. Dennis Gutshall, Kansas City, Mo., and Tim Gutshall, Johnstown, Colo., and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at the Pilot Grove #1 Baptist Church in Gilman City, under the direction of the Roberson Funeral, Gilman. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday. The family will receive friends Saturday evening after 7 p.m.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Grundy County Church of Christ and/or Jamesport Church of Christ.

Lester G. Hessemyer
Lester G. Hessemyer, 92, Bethany, Mo., and formerly of St. Joseph, Mo., died October 9, 2002, at a Liberty, Mo. Hospital.
Mr. Hessemyer was born in Easton, Mo., on March 23, 1910, the son of John and Ida (Switzer) Hessemyer. He married Ruth Kimball on March 26, 1937, and she survives of the home. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and later worked as a salesman for the Wyath Hardware Company for 44 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the United Methodist Church, both of Bethany.
His parents preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Valerie Wertz, Blaine, Minn., and Sue Sisk, Mooresville, N.C.; two brothers, Hilen and Howard Hessemyer, both of St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters, Wanda Gawatz and Lila Gregory, both of St. Joseph; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at the Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial will be in Memorial Park in St. Joseph. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Bethany.

Frances Trainer
Frances Louise Trainer, 92, Conroe, Texas, and formerly of Bethany, Mo., died November 22, 2002, at a Conroe nursing home.
Mrs. Trainer was born in Watonga, Okla., on Feb. 22, 1910. Her family moved to Spickard, Mo., in 1914 where she eventually graduated from high school. She studied pharmacy in Spickard, and in 1956 began working as a secretary for the Harrison County Farm Bureau. She helped organize the Bethany Girl Scouts and was a past president of the Bethany Business Women's Club, past Worthy Matron of Bethany Chapter #23 or Order of Eastern Star, past regent of Elizabeth Harrison Chapter of D.A.R., 20th Century Club and the Methodist Women. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bethany for 55 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.R. Trainer.
She leaves a daughter, Brenda Preheim and husband Randy, Conroe, Texas; granddaughters Lynley McDonald and husband Jimmy, Spring, Texas, and Lesley Groves and husband Terry, Westchester, Ohio; great-grandchildren Jordan, Blake and Laura McDonald, and Ryan Groves.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial will be in the Miriam Cemetery. The body has been cremated. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday morning. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:30 a.m. before the service.

Paul A. Brush
Paul Ambrose Brush, 78, Ridgeway, Mo., died December 3, 2002.
Mr. Brush was born Oct. 22, 1925, in St. Joseph, Mo., the son of Stanley and Therese (Swinkowski) Brush. He served in the Marines during World War II and the Korean War. He marred Betty J. Polley in 1949, and she survives of the home. He worked as a milk truck driver and had also served on the Ridgeway city council. He coached Little League for 12 years.
His parents preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Paul jr. of Cameron, Mo., and Tom of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter Therese Cook, Liberty, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Ann Celona of Pleasantville, N.Y., and Sister Victoria Therese Brush of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren, one step, grandchild, one great-grandchildren and one step, great-grandchild.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Bethany. Burial will be in the Yankee Ridge Cemetery, Ridgeway, with military honors under the auspices of the Bethany V.F.W. #2176 and American Legion Post #216, and Albany V.F.W. #5329 and American Legion #106. Services were under the direction of Bethany Memorial Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Thursday. Thursday evening there will be a rosary at 7 p.m.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Harrison County Hospice and/or Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Gordon A. Carothers
Gordon A. Carothers, 83, Cainsville, Mo., died December 2, 2002, at a North Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Carothers was born in Mt. Moriah, Mo., on Nov. 11, 1919, the son of Joseph Guy and Sophronia E. (Myrick) Carothers. He married Kathryn L. Sweeten on March 23, 1946, and she survives of the home. He was a millright at the Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, U.A.W., and the Carpenter's Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter Vanya Skroh, Cainsville; son Michael Carothers, Cainsville; sister Carol Chapin, Watseka, Ill.; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 5, 2002, at the Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial was in the Lloyd Cemetery, Mt. Moriah.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 46, Bethany, Mo. 64424.

Edna Jean Hall
Edna Jean Hall, 94, Maryville, Mo., died December 2, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mrs. Hall was born in Brooklyn, Mo., on Aug. 19, 1908, the daughter of Auris Harvey and Mary Gertrude (Smith) McIntosh. She was a 1928 graduate of Ridgeway High School and attended Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Maryville. She was a homemaker and teacher in rural Nodaway County. She was a member of the Maryville First Christian Church, Garden Club and the Spare Moments Club, both of Maryville.
She was preceded in death by her husband Floid Hall in 1994, two sons, Kenneth Hall and Alvin Ray Hall, five brothers, Richard McIntosh, O.W. McIntosh, John McIntosh, O. N. McIntosh, and Loren G. McIntosh.
She leaves a son Richard A. Hall, Williamston, Mich.; one daughter Erma Louise Payne, DeSoto, Iowa; one brother, Howard A. McIntosh, Monterey Park, Calif.; two sisters, Helen Olsen, Stillwater, Minn., and Marjorie Lavely, Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren, Susan Baker, Andrea Blumquist, Alex Hall and Nathan Hall, and three great-grandchildren Art Baker, Ed Baker, and Carrie Baker.
Services will be held at10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the Price Funeral Home Chapel in Maryville. Burial will be in the Nodaway Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday evening.
The family suggests memorials to the McIntosh Hall Scholarship, c/o Northwest Foundation, NWMSU, 800 University Dr., Maryville, Mo.

LaDonna Sue Rhoades
LaDonna Sue Rhoades, 37, died January 30, 2003, at the home of her parents.
Mrs. Rhoades was born in Princeton, Mo., on Nov. 16, 1965, the daughter of Richard and Janice Bennett. She married Scott Alan Rhoades on Feb. 19, 1983, and he survives of the home. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Vern Wright, paternal grandfather Fred Bennett, and uncles David Bennett and Bill Wright.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter Ashley Rhoades, Des Moines, Iowa,; son Anthony Rhoades, Des Moines; parents Richard and Janice Bennett, Bethany, Mo.; maternal grandmother Wanda Wright, Bethany; paternal grandmother Roberta Bennett, Bethany; brothers Danny Wright and Ricky Bennett, both of Des Moines; sisters Christy Bennett, Des Moines, and Cherrie Williams, Bethany, and a grandson.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Bethany Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Ridgeway Cemetery, Ridgeway. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the LaDonna Rhoades Memorial Fund in care of BTC Bank, Bethany.
