Joshua Aaron Leach
July 26, 1985 - Jan. 30, 2002
Joshua Aaron Leach, 17, Adrian, died Jan. 30, 2002, at his home.
He was born July 26, 1985, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Richard and Lori (Payne) Leach.
Mr. Leach had lived in Prescott, Kan., and Pleasanton, Kan., before moving to rural Adrian.
He played football and was a junior at Miami High School.
Survivors include his father, Richard Leach, of the home; his mother and stepfather, Lori and Douglas Edward Frazier, Joplin; a brother, Jeremy Leach, of the home; two half brothers, Douglas M. Frazier and Dylan C. Frazier, both of Joplin; paternal grandmother, Pat Leach, Harrisonville; maternal grandparents, Donald and Lois Payne, Pleasanton, Kan.; and his maternal great-grandmother, Rebecca Weller, Pleasanton, Kan.
Pallbearers were John R. Leach, Aric Leach, Sam Morlan, Josh Morlan, Bob Dennis, Danny Spears and Jonathan Leach.
Services were Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at the Nazarene Church in Pleasanton, Kan., with Pastor Tom Long and the Rev. Roy Dare officiating.
Burial was in the Pleasanton Cemetery, Pleasanton, under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville

Chris Dwayne Moles
Dec. 19, 1960 - Jan. 31, 2002
Chris Dwayne Moles, 41, Harrisonville, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at his home.
He was born Dec. 19, 1960, in Harrisonville, the son of Larry and Joyce (Spurgeon) Moles.
On Aug. 11, 1995, he married Glenda Guthrie.
Mr. Moles grew up in Garden City and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1979.
He was a lifelong Cass County resident.
He had served as a Boy Scout Leader. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a fabrication engineer for M-C Fabrication in Olathe, Kan.
Surviving are his wife, Glenda Moles, two sons, Kyle Lee Moles and Daniel Ray Moles, all of the home; his parents, Larry and Joyce Moles, Garden City; two sisters, Karen Bryant and Kim Jones, both of Harrisonville.
Honorary pallbearers were Daymond Moles, Keith Moles and Greg Guthrie.
Pallbearers were Clint Moles, Shawn Bryant, Brad Jones, Randy Miller, Dave Gibson, Rusty Moles and Don Beckerdite.
Services were Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at the Atkinson Chapel with the Rev. Ernie Cecil of the Antioch Southern Baptist Church, Harrisonville, officiating. LeeAnn McKee was the soloist and Debbie Walker was the pianist.
Burial was in the Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Moles Education Fund.

Mary Jane Penrose
Sept. 18, 1923 - Jan. 29, 2002
Mary Jane Penrose, 78, Peculiar, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Research Belton Hospital, Belton.
She was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Kansas City, the daughter of Perry Marshall and Mildred Lillian (Morris) Sanders.
Mrs. Penrose was a lifelong resident of Peculiar.
She was an antique dealer and a member of the First Baptist Church, Peculiar.
Preceding her in death were her father, Perry Marshall Sanders; and her husband, Rex Penrose, on Feb. 12, 1995.
Surviving are a son, Rex Penrose, a daughter, Connie Branic, her mother, Mildred Sanders, two brothers, Perry Sanders and Larry Sanders and a sister, Bernice Sterling, all of Peculiar; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
Pallbearers were Rick Eason, Jim Daber, Cole Stine and Justin Cherry.
Graveside services and burial were Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, with Dr. Jack Inman, Harrisonville, officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Darryl W. Perkins
Jan. 9, 1962 - Jan. 25, 2002
Darryl Wayne Perkins, 40, Harrisonville, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in Harrisonville.
He was born Jan. 9, 1962, in Independence, the son of Harold and Gladys (Dailey) Perkins.
Mr. Perkins Grew up in El Dorado Springs, and was a 1980 graduate of El Dorado Springs High School.
On Dec. 19, 1981, he married Sarah Elizabeth Moler.
Mr. Perkins owned and operated Perkins Transmission in Harrisonville for the last nine years.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Perkins, and a daughter, Sarah Fae Perkins, both of the home; his parents, Harold and Gladys Perkins, El Dorado Springs; a brother, Harold Perkins Jr., El Dorado Springs; and a sister, Debra Richter, Fort Collins, Colo.
Casketbearers were David Cox, Jason Ogle, Randy Richter, Bill Moler, Harold Perkins Jr. and Matthew Moler.
Services were Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, with the Rev. Charles Kaighan of the Grace Baptist Church, Harrisonville, officiating.
Music was by Hannah Kaighan, Susanna Kaighan and Hannah Kaighan as vocalists and Elaine Kaighan, pianist, and Carla Hargis and Vonda Savage playing clarinets.
Burial was in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Thomas E. Roberts
April 28, 1930 - Feb. 1, 2002
Thomas "Tom" Edward Roberts, 71, Butler, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler.
He was born April 28, 1930, in Heppler, Kan., the son of Grover and Lillie (Shields) Roberts.
Mr. Roberts started in the printing business at an early age, working for the Bates County Democrat.
He later worked for the Midwest Envelope Company in Kansas City, and for Cass County Publishing Company in Harrisonville, before health forced his retirement in 1987.
Preceding him in death were his son, Barry Stephen Roberts; and grandchildren, Lyle Henry Herman Jr. and Misty Nickel.
Surviving are four sons, Tommy Roberts and Mike Roberts, Butler; Terry Roberts, Harrisonville, and Jimmy Roberts, Garden City; two daughters, Karen Chamberlain, Archie, Vickie Herman, Butler; his ex-wife, Evelyn Darlene Roberts, Butler; a brother, Bill Roberts, Galena, Kan.; a sister, Betty Roberts, Carthage; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Steinbeck Funeral Home with Brother Bill Perkey officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Underwood-Steinbeck Funeral Home, Butler.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
