HELEN C. ENSMINGER
MINDEN-MINES - Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Rosebank Cemetery, Mulberry, Kan., for Helen Clara Ensminger, 76, Mindenmines, who died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Barton County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening (Wednesday), at the funeral home.
Survivors include four sons, LeeRoy Ensminger, of the home, William F. Ensminger, Modesto, Calif., Jackie L. Ensminger, Berry, Vt., and David R. Ensminger, Ceres, Calif.; five daughters, Barbara Casteel and Helen Stevens, both of Mindenmines, Wanda Cotton and Linda Woods, both of Lebanon, and Nina Baggs, Baxter Springs, Kan.; a brother, George Jenkens, Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Gladys, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ensminger was born April 8, 1927, in Ravia, Okla., to John H. and Mary (Bell) Jenkens.
She had resided in Mindenmines for the past four years, having moved from Ceres, Calif.
She was a homemaker, and enjoyed playing Bingo.
She was a member of the Mindenmines Church of God.
She married Stanford Ensminger at Hemmit, Calif. He died in 1984.

MARJORIE WILLIAMS
FORT SCOTT, Kan. - Services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday), at First Southern Baptist Church, Fort Scott, for Marjorie Williams, 91, Fort Scott, who died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Arkhaven Care Facility, Fort Scott, following a lengthy illness.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Cato.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon until service time, at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz-Warden Funeral Home, Lamar, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church in Fort Scott.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie "Tex" Williams; a sister, Frances Robinson, Fort Scott; six nieces and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Frank, James and Fred Snow, and two sisters, Eva Simons and Mabel Yoos.
Mrs. Williams was born Nov. 19, 1912, in Cato, to William David and Glenna Dora (Herndon) Snow.
She was a lifetime area Kansas native.
She was a retired bookkeeper for Union Bank & Trust, where she had been employed for 10 years, and had also worked for Paper Supply Company in Kansas City and Beech Aircraft in Wichita.
She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Fort Scott, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Liberal.
She married Leslie "Tex" Williams on Feb. 5, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo.

ARDEN L. OBERT
LOS LUNAS, N.M. - No services are planned for Arden L. Obert, 68, Los Lunas, formerly of the Lockwood, Mo. and Freistatt, Mo. area, who died Monday, March 1, 2004, at his friend's home in New Mexico, after a long battle of cancer.
The body has been cremated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Konantz-Warden Funeral Home, Lamar, Mo.
Survivors include two brothers, Paul and wife Jane Obert and Charles and wife Phyllis Obert, all of Lockwood, Mo.; a sister, Deina and husband Ray Wilson, Ash Grove, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Obert was born April 15, 1935, in Lockwood, Mo., to Otto and Hulda (Bugenhagen) Obert.
He had resided in New Mexico for the past several years, having moved from Freistatt, Mo.
He had worked at U.S. Rental in Albuquerque for the last 10 years.
He served in the Army from 1958 to 1960, serving time in Korea.
He was of the Lutheran faith.

CECIL BOMAN
LARNED, Kan. - Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, for Cecil Boman, 88, Larned, who died March 15, 2004, at his home.
The Rev. Don Paden will officiate.
Burial will be in Howell Cemetery, Milford, Mo., at 1 p.m., Friday, with Pastor Cliff Hazard officiating.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday), at the funeral home.
Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the American Legion, Larned, and Thursday, 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Survivors include four sons, Darrell Baucker, Arma, Danny Boman, Duane Boman and Glen Boman, all of Larned; two daughters, Barbara Edwards, Pawnee Rock, and Margie Gonzalez, Great Bend; a brother, Charles Boman, Lamar, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chet and Clifford Boman.
Mr. Boman was born to Shelva and Alta Marie (Wheatley) Boman.
He had worked in road construction for Broce & Smith.
He had been a resident of Larned since 1966, having moved from Lamar, Mo.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He married Dorothy Lee Wallace on July 25, 1948, at Harrison, Ark.
She died March 13, 2003.

HAZEL PETERSON
LAMAR - Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, at Konantz-Warden Funeral Home, for Hazel Peterson, 100, Lamar, who died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Lakeview Healthcare Center, Lamar.
Burial will be in Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randy Peterson, David Jeffries, Joel Jeffries, Matthew Jeffries, Ned Jeffries, and Eric Jeffries.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Jeffries, Nate Jeffries, Jared Jeffries, Charles Lucietta and Charles Wood.
Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening (Wednesday), at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include a son, Curtis Peterson and wife Betty L., Lamar; a son-in-law, Samuel Robert Jeffries, Lamar; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Maxine Jeffries.
Mrs. Peterson was born May 21, 1903, in Dover, Ill., to Frank and Anna Wilson.
She and her husband moved to Lamar from the farm in 1947. She had worked at Big Smith Mfg. in Lamar for a time, and was a housewife.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lamar, and the Pollyanna Club.
She married John Alfred Peterson at June 6, 1923. He died March 8, 1982.

HILDA STEFAN
GOLDEN CITY - Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday), at the Apostolic Christian Church, Lamar, for Hilda (Gegner) Stefan, 81, Golden City, who died at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Freeman Health System, Joplin.
Ministers Lawrence Luthi and Bill Dotterer will officiate.
Burial will be in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville, Ind.
Music will be provided by the Apostolic Christian Church Choir.
Pallbearers will be Mark Stefan, Doug Stefan, Loren Schmidgall, Andrew Garwood, Gabe Johnston and Brian Gastel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pugh Funeral Home, Golden City.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkview Haven Retirement Home, Francesville, Ind., in care of the funeral home.
A brief funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home, Francesville, Ind.
Ministers Wendell Gudeman and Chris Huber will officiate.
Survivors include her husband, William Stefan; two sons, Willie Stefan and wife Natalie and Paul Stefan and wife Debbie, both of rural Golden City; a daughter, Hildegard Koehl and husband Jim, Morris, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, a son, George, and a grandson, Stefan Koehl.
Mrs. Stefan was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Budapest, Hungary, to Karl and Theresia (Gutwein) Gegner.
She grew up and received her education in Yugoslavia. At the age of 25, she was baptized in Breidenbach, Germany.
After her marriage, the couple farmed briefly in Indiana, and then made their home in Golden City, where they farmed, owned and operated Jasper County Seed Company. She was an active member of the Apostolic Christian Church.
She married William Stefan on April 6, 1952, in Francesville, Ind.

SHIRLEY D. LEAVELL
SHELDON - Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, for Shirley D. Leavell, 59, Sheldon, who died Wednesday morning, Oct. 20, 2004, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, following an illness of several months.
Bruce Belline officiated. Cremation followed.
Arrangements were under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shirley Leavell Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Sheldon High School, in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Don Leavell, of the home; three daughters, Sherri Simmons and husband Ronnie, El Dorado Springs, Starla Leavell, Joplin, and Shelli Randall and husband Larry, Frontenac, Kan.; five grandchildren, Andrew Leavell, Sheldon, Kali Simmons, Kinli Simmons and Kaiden Simmons, El Dorado Springs, and McKenzi Randall, Frontenac, Kan.; five sisters, Tudi Westcott, Lawrence, Kan., Joyce Hoover, Wichita, Kan., and Frances Hilburn, Betty Bright and Doris McGrath, all of Nevada, and a brother, Randy Starlin, Sheldon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Jim Starlin and Harvey Starlin.
Mrs. Leavell was born May 30, 1945, in Sheldon, to Joe Coziah and Dona Veretta (Mann) Starlin.
She was a 1963 graduate of Sheldon High School. She was a lifelong resident of the Sheldon area.
She was past president of the WIBC Bowling League of Lamar for 20 plus years.
She was a member of the Sheldon Park Board and the Sheldon Athletic Booster Club.
She had organized the Sheldon Old Settlers Picnic Softball Tournament for over 20 years.
She worked for the Lamar Supermarket until her retirement due to her illness.
She married Don Leavell on Feb. 14, 1966, in Miami, Okla.
