John Ab Short
John Ab Short, 88, Joplin, passed away 8:36 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at Freeman West Hospital.
Mr. Short was born Sept. 17, 1918, in Sturkie, Ark., near Salem. He was the son of Joe Ab and Minnie (Jones) Short, the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters. John moved to Joplin in 1997, after living in Tahlequah, Okla., and West Plains, Mo., for many years. He was a farmer and owned several farms located near Caruthersville and Parma in the Bootheel region of Missouri.
John married his wife, Norma (Asher) Short in Pocahontas, Ark., in 1939. They remained married for 62 years until her death on Dec. 10, 2002.
He was a member of the congregation at Mt. Hope Church of Christ in Webb City, Mo.
John had two children. His son, Johnny Ray Short, preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2001. A daughter, Ruth Eleen (Short) Boehning, survives.
Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and four great-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.

His grandparents; parents; four sisters, Barbara, Bonnie, Wanda and Marsha; and two brothers, Claude and wife, Joann, and Lloyd, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Bean Cemetery.
