Funeral services were held Feb. 23 at Flora United Methodist Church with burial in the Flora Cemetery. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland handled arrangements.
Survivors include: her husband, Larry Vance of Abbeville; son, Texas; daughter, Mitzi Stinnett Mayfield and husband Robert of Madison; grandchildren, Brandon Adams-Mayfield of Bellingham, Wash., Brooke Keyes of Petal, Graham Mayfield of Jackson, Tenn., and Julia Moriah Mayfield of Madison; sister, Bonnie Ellis of Lakeland, Fla., and brother, Charles Mercer of Las Vegas.

Alvin Word Jr., 80, of Jackson, died Feb. 27, 2003, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Funeral services were held March 1 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Ridgeland .
Survivors include: his wife, Sue Stringer Word of Jackson; son, Alvin Word III and wife Melissa of Cleveland; daughters, Lynda Word Smith and husband W. Gary Smith of Cleveland; Janet Word Richardson and husband Dr. Gary A. Richardson of Oxford; grandchildren, 1st Lt. Alvin Word IV of Fort Campbell, Ky., Brian Word of Cleveland, Amanda Word of Knoxville, Jeremy Smith of Cleveland, Stacie Smith of Nashville, Leigh Anne Richardson Heard and husband Bill of Madison, John Richardson of San Francisco and Jennifer Richardson Gibbs and husband David of Clinton.
He is also survived by one sister, Augusta "June" Gates and husband Billy of Brandon, nieces and nephews.

Vonda Avis Webb, 89, of Ridgeland died Feb. 27, 2003, at The Orchard's Arbor.
Funeral services were held March 1 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Ridgeland.
Survivors include: her brother, Elmo Texas, Deanna Webb Hillier of Fort Worth, Texas, Jerry Wayne Webb of Ridgeland, Gebe Terry of Durant and Gregg Webb of Springtown, Mississippi Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Durant with burial in the West City Cemetery.
Survivors include: wife Ernestine G. Foster of West; daughters, Debra Jenkins of Bentonia, Tina Littlefield of West and Rosie Marie Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Feb. 19 at Canton Funeral Home with burial in Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pickens.
Survivors include: wife, Jeannie Fugate of Bolton; daughters, Peggy Blalock of Brandon and Barbara Whitlock of Byram; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
