GULFPORT - Mr. Kenneth "Buck" Lucian Bell, 45, of Gulfport, died Saturday, December 9, 2000, in Gulfport. Mr. Bell was a native of Denham Springs, La., and a longtime resident of Gulfport. He was a graduate of Denham Springs High School and was a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees for 22 years. He was self-employed in the construction business. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas C. Bell; and a son, Lucian "Luke" Thomas Bell. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Bell of Gulfport; his mother and stepfather, Ramona Fontenot and Wilbur Wasson of Denham Springs, La.; a stepson, Ernie J. WIGGINS - Mr. Jesse A. Blackwell passed away on December 10, 2000, at his residence in Wiggins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Moore Funeral Home with Dr. Wiley Abel and Reverend Clyde Carraway officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wiggins. Pallbearers will be Winky Yarbrough, Al Rawell, Gary Moore, Jimmy Moore, Joe Thomas and Steve Compston. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mr. Blackwell was born in Harrison County. He served in the Air Force during World War II. He was the owner and operator of Blackwell Oil Company in Wiggins until he retired March 1984. After his retirement he worked with the Cripple Children's Hospital in Shreveport, LA, where he served on the Board of Governors for 10 years. He was a member of the Wiggins Masonic Lodge No. 481, a member of Eastern Star Miriam Chapter No. 67, and a member of Joppa Shrine Temple where he served as treasurer for 10 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wiggins. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen M. Blackwell of Wiggins; and a son, Andy M. Blackwell of Meridian. OCEAN SPRINGS - Mrs. Rosemarie L. Jeffery was born July 24, 1939, to the late Wilhelm Schrader and Erma Laszus in Hanover, Germany. She departed this world December 9, 2000, in her home on Riley Road in Ocean Springs after a long and arduous battle with lung cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron B. Jeffery; two brothers, Fritz and Willi Schrader; and a sister, Marlis Schrader. Mrs. Jeffery was united in holy matrimony to the late Myron B. Jeffery, and to this union three daughters and one son were born: Patricia M. Simon, Caroline G. Cutler, Dean C. Jeffery, and Natasha M. Jeffery. Her memories will be kept alive by her four children; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Hannelore Reuter and Waltraud Becker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was retired from the State of Mississippi, Human Services Division. BILOXI - Dr. Laurence Michael Oden, 82, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, in Gulfport. Dr. Oden was a native of Birmingham, Ala., a former resident of New Orleans, and a longtime resident of Biloxi. He was organist and choir director at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer for more than 40 years and was a former member of the Vestry. He was the founder of the Gulf Coast Opera Theatre. He was a former president of the local chapter and of the state society of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from Louisiana State University School of Music, a Ph.D. in liturgical music from Manhattan College in Manhattanville, N. Y., and studied at the Julliard School in New York City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham Kirk Oden. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Legrand J. "Mary" Audioun. A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery. Ford of Biloxi, grandmother of Patrick M. Ford of Biloxi and Kathleen S. Ford of Portland, OR. Sister of Laurentine Ernest, Lorraine Steven Young of New Orleans and Gloria Karter Davis of Cherokee Village, Ark., and the late Lillian Wichterich Hale, Erwin H. Jacob, Leo Jacob and Edward Jacob. She retired from Southeastern State Insurance Co. after 33 years. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at P.J. Sister Mary Lucretia Chastant, (Frances Ione Chastant), was born March 5, 1918, to parents Julius Harvey Chastant and Mary Isabel Krebs Chastant, in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Sister Lucretia received a B.S. Degree in Education from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, in Lafayette, Louisiana; and earned a Master of Arts Degree in Business Education from Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C. Sister Lucretia entered the Convent of the Most Holy Sacrament, Lafayette, Louisiana, on January 8, 1937, and pronounced perpetual vows on August 15, 1941. She just celebrated her 60th Anniversary as a Sister of the Most Holy Sacrament on October 11, 1997 in Lafayette, Louisiana. The first several years of her teaching ministry were spent in elementary classes in Crowley, Louisiana and then in Birmingham, Alabama. Since 1942, Sister taught in St. Michael's, Crowley, Louisiana four years; Annunciation High, New Orleans, Louisiana for 19 years; and Our Lady of Victories, Pascagoula, Mississippi for 10 years. When retiring from the classroom in 1975, Sister Lucretia then assisted in the parochial school and parish performing secretarial and pastoral duties as Minister to Elderly and CCD Teacher. She was Secretary for the Administrative Council of the Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament for six years in the '60s. Sister Lucretia frequently was called upon during her years in various ministries to serve as secretary in the education field, parish and civic organizations. Since 1994, Sister Lucretia has resided at Bethany Health Care Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. She is survived by one sister, Mary Louise Morgan of Pascagoula, Miss.; one brother, J.W. Chastant and his wife, Joan of Ocean Springs; Miss., and their children, Paul, Pierre, Quinn and Andrew; one niece, Pat Walley and her son Shawn Freeman of Pascagoula, Miss.; two nephews, J.O. Guice and wife, Connie and family of Pass Christian, Miss., and Robert Guice and his wife, Tina and family of Germany; and other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one nephew, Jim Guice. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Visiting hours will be observed from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday at the Martin and Castille Funeral Home and on Thursday from 8 a.m. at the Bethany Chapel, until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sister Lucretia's name may be made to the Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 90037, Lafayette, LA 70509. GULFPORT - Allan John "Jack" Watson Jr., 89, died Sunday, Feb. 8, in Gulfport. Mr. Watson was born Aug. 11, 1908, in Biloxi. He retired from Ms. Power Company after 43 years of service in 1978. He was a member of the Mississippi and National Societies of Professional Engineers, was a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, received the Edison Award, and was an advisory director of Hancock Bank in Gulfport. Mr. Watson was an Episcopalian and a vestryman at Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi. He then became a member of St. Peter's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Gulfport. He was a longtime member of the Gulfport Yacht Club. Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his parents, Allan John Watson and Nell White Watson; and a sister, Mary Ellen Watson. He is survived by his wife, Martha Jeanne Doty Watson; a daughter, Maria Louise Watson; a son, Allan John Watson III, both of Gulfport; and a brother, William White Watson of New Augusta. Burial will be private. A memorial Eucharist will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's by-the-Sea Episcopal, where friends may call for 30 minutes before the service. The family prefers memorials to St. Peter's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 3100 W. Beach Blvd., Gulfport, MS 39501; or to Mississippi State University where an electrical engineering scholarship is being established in his memory.
