LONG BEACH - Harry L. "Jack" Notter Jr., 80, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, in Gulfport. Mr. Notter was a native of Hunington, West VA, he moved to Long Beach in 1964 as part owner of Port Marine Supply. After the loss of this business to two hurricanes, he returned to service with the U.S.D.A Department of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables as an inspector until his 30 year retirement and subsequent return to the Coast in 1977. Mr. Notter enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1940. He served with B CO 1BN 1st Marines on Guadalcanal from August 1942 until November 1942 when he was returned to stateside due to wounds received during that campaign. Mr. Notter was a devoted member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Long Beach, holding several positions from 1977 until his death. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry L. Notter Sr., and his mother, Maude Byrd, his stepfather, Richard Byrd of Frisco City, AL; and one sister, Lilly Hnatyshyn of Toledo, Ohio. Survivors include his wife, Edna Hale Notter of Long Beach; one son, Michael L. Notter and his wife, Linda of Gulfport; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Jack Notter was a devoted husband and father, never knowing a stranger, always seeking the betterment of his fellow man. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at First United Methodist Church in Long Beach. SAUCIER - Leaving a legacy of seven children, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren - teachers, an architect, engineers, building contractors, a postmistress, and a Baptist minister - Owen Eldridge Patton Sr., of Saucier, died Sunday morning. He was 90. A lifetime resident of Harrison County, Mr. Patton was a retired welder coordinator of 33 years from Ingalls, a former Baptist minister of 25 years, and a dairyman, Mr. Patton raised Black Angus beef, as well, on his two-hundred acre farm. Preceded in death by his wife, Edna Wilson Patton; a son, Owen E. Patton Jr.; and nine brothers and sister, Eula Burrows, Ida Johnson, Ada Reeves, Harvey Patton, Ollie J. Patton, Clayton Patton Sr., Bernice Patton, Joel Patton, and Adrema Patton, he was the last surviving child of Ephraim and Julia Shaw Patton. Survived by his seven children - daughters, Doye Parker of Perkinston, Wanda Coward of Wiggins, and Carol Shiyou of Saucier; his four sons, Roy D. Patton, Ronnie Patton, and Donald "Butch" Patton of Saucier, and Wendell W. Patton of Perkinston, he will be sadly missed. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30, at Riemann Funeral Home, U.S. 49 North in Gulfport, from 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be Wednesday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church on Hwy. 53, where friends may call one hour before services. SAUCIER - Mrs. Ethel R. Smith, age 79 and a resident of Saucier, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, in Saucier. Mrs. Smith, a native of Avery, Oklahoma, and a longtime MS Gulf Coast resident, was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Smith of Saucier; three sons, Don Lee Reynolds of Oklahoma, Lawrence Reynolds of Kansas and Clarence Reynolds of Gulfport; a brother, Lincoln Ritter; a sister, Lola Crook, both of Oklahoma; and four grandchildren, Angela, James, Erin, and John. After a long illness, she passed away at the Kare Center after receiving the Sacrament of the Sick by Father Farrell of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. She attended St. Michael's Elementary School and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Class of 1935. She was employed as a New York buyer for W.V. Joyce Co., and was in sales with J.C. Penney, Maison Blanche, and West End Pharmacy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Kenny" Harder, a Coast musician; her parents, Edwin C. "Sweety" Diaz Sr., and Mabel Duvigneaud Diaz; and a brother, Edwin C. WOOLMARKET - Mary V. Robbins, 90, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in Biloxi. Mrs. Robbins was born in Ripley and had been a resident of the Gulf Coast since 1936. She was a charter member of Woolmarket Baptist Church and was a former member of the Woolmarket Garden Club. She was a former school bus driver and was employed with the civil service during World War II. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Robbins. Survivors include a son, James T. Robbins of Woolmarket; two sisters, Bernice Thomas of Ripley and Leona Bell of Aberdeen; two brothers, Franklin Boyette of Woolmarket and Murry Boyette of Ripley, and a granddaughter. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. A service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woolmarket Baptist Church where friends may call one hour before service time. Burial will be in Coalville Cemetery in Woolmarket.

PASS CHRISTIAN - Floyd Joseph "G-Joe" Stapleton Sr., 55, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Gulfport. Mr. Stapleton was a native and lifelong resident of Pass Christian. He attended school in Pass Christian and retired in 1992 from the city of Long Beach. He was a Catholic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Ida Mae Stapleton; a son, Lloyd Joseph Stapleton; and a sister, Margaret Shoemaker. Survivors include his wife, Margie Stapleton; a son, Floyd Joseph Stapleton Jr., both of Pass Christian; two daughters, Mrs. Charles T. "Debra" Seal of Long Beach and Mrs. Jack "PeeWee" Moore of Pass Christian; five brothers, Mike Stapleton, Ike Stapleton, and Junior Stapleton, all of Pass Christian, Robert Stapleton of Bayou LaBatre, Ala., and Levon Stapleton of Lucedale; four sisters, Theresa Bursell of Wilmington, N.C., Rose Ryals of Pass Christian, Diane Alexander of Saucier, and Brenda Cuevas of Long Beach, and 16 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Riemann Funeral Home in Long Beach. A service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery at Rotten Bayou.

GULFPORT - Paul K. Streetman, age 69 and a resident of Gulfport, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Gulfport . Mr. Streetman, a native of Athens, Georgia, had been a Gulfport resident for 37 years. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and had served aboard the USS Forrestal and USS Benner. Mr. Streetman was also retired from the Biloxi VA as a nursing assistant, and worked for C.E. NATCO. He was a former member of the VFW and the American Legion, was a member of the Pine Burr Country Club in Wiggins, and was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport. Mr. Streetman was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Bell Streetman; and a sister, Ruby Lee Spell. He is survived by his wife, Jan Streetman of Gulfport; a daughter, Kathy Burns of Long Beach; two sons, Kirk Streetman and his wife, Karen of Pass Christian, and Kenny Streetman and his wife, Angie of Gulfport; two sisters, Betty Ann Grubb of Norfolk, Virginia, and Frankie Jean Gibbs of Clinton, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight, Tuesday, July 4, at the Riemann Funeral Home, 25th Avenue in Gulfport. The funeral will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, in the funeral home chapel, followed by burial in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens in Long Beach with full military honors. BILOXI - Ed Thompson, 77, of Biloxi, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Gulfport. Mr. Thompson was a native and lifelong resident of the Coast. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was retired from civil service having worked on the "Oregon II" Research Fishing Vessel out of Pascagoula. He also worked as a school crossing guard for five years. Mr. Thompson was of the Catholic faith and was a member of V.F.W. Post 2434. He was preceded in death by a son, Bradley James Thompson; his parents, Edgar and Willemena Thompson; and a brother, Doug Thompson. Survivors include his wife, Viola Hebert Thompson of Biloxi; a daughter, Donna Thompson Necaise and her husband, Edward J. Necaise Jr. of Ocean Springs; a son, Edward "Butch" Thompson of Ocean Springs; a daughter-in-law, Rose Terry Thompson of Ocean Springs; a sister, Romona Eleuterius of Biloxi; a brother, John "Spud" Thompson of Biloxi; and two grandchildren, Bridget Necaise Burritt of Tulsa, OK, and Edward James Necaise III of Ocean Springs. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 5, 2000, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Services will be Thursday in the funeral home chapel at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery.

PASS CHRISTIAN - Daniel Boyle Tracy, 56, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Gulfport. Mr. Tracy was a native of Gulfport and a lifelong resident of the Coast. He was a graduate of St. John High School and Hinds Junior College in Raymond. He was a Catholic and a member of the fellowship at St. Augustine Seminary in Bay St. louis. He was a Navy veteran of Vietnam. He was a barber for 28 years and was the owner of Modern Hair Care in Long Beach. He was preceded in death by his father, Norbert E. Tracy Sr., and a brother, Norbert E. Tracy Jr. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Ladnier Tracy of Pass Christian; three sons, Daniel B. Tracy II of Starkville, Raymond S. Tracy and Ryan P. Tracy, both of Pass Christian; his mother, Carmen L. Tracy of Gulfport; two brothers, William J. "Bill" Tracy of Long Beach and Cornelius "Chunnie" Tracy of Dickinson, Texas; and three sisters, Catherine Colleen James of Long Beach, Nina Muriel Fraser of Biloxi and Dian Marie Schlicht of Hemet, Calif. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Riemann Funeral Home, 25th Avenue, Gulfport. A procession will leave the funeral home at 11:20 a.m. Thursday for an 11:30 service at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Gulfport. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.

OCEAN SPRINGS - Ollie G. Wasson, 85, died Monday, July 3, 2000, in Ocean Springs. Mrs. Wasson was sent from Riemann Memorial Funeral Home on Beauvoir Road in Biloxi, to Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson for services and burial.
