Bob O. May

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church for Bob O. May, 71, of Columbia who died Friday, Jan. 19 at Wesley Medical Center. Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip Duncan officiated at the service assisted by Chris Turnage and Dr. Wayne VanHorn.

Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 21 from 4-9 p.m.

A native of Columbia, he was retired from Breland Ready Mix and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon since 1968 and taught a young men’s Sunday School class. He had served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Cleve and Katie May; and three brothers, John May, George May, and Joe B. May.

Survivors include: his wife, Gail Breland May of Columbia; one daughter, Carrie F. May Magee and son-in-law Tim Magee of Columbia; one son, Raymond May and daughter-in-law Tina May of Columbia; one brother, Bill May of Columbia; four grandchildren, Amelia Magee, Stuart Magee, Gabriel May and Gillian May; Mother-in-law, Naomi Breland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were nephews, David May, George May, Mike Breland, Quin Breland, Mike Wallace, and Steve Case.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Baptist Church Bus Fund.

Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. “Bob” Lee, Jr.

Robert L. “Bob” Lee, Jr., 53, of Mobile, Ala., died of cancer at the family residence on Monday, Jan. 15.

Reared in Pineville, La., and a resident of Mobile, Ala., since 1988, Mr. Lee was a graduate of Florida Public Television prior to moving to Mobile in 1988. For the past 12 years, Mr. Lee worked at the United States Coast Guard Aviation Training Center as the Audio Visual Production Officer. He enjoyed playing golf and working with local tournaments.

Mr. Lee was active in the Llanfair-South Yester Oaks Civic Association and was an active member of Ashland Place United Methodist Church where he served on committees at the district and conference levels.

Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice Kearns Lee.

He is survived by: his wife, Phebe Mason Lee of Mobile; parents, Robert L. and Grace McCain Lee, Sr., of Pineville, La.; two sisters, Linda Lee Brian of Jackson, Tenn., and Kathryn Lee (Tommy) Harless of Pineville, La.; in-laws, Angus and Truby Mason of Brewton, Ala.; Uncle and Aunt, the Rev. and Mrs. George F. (Margaret) Lee of Columbia; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from Ashland Place United Methodist Church on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. Interment was in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, Ala., and one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to The United Methodist Inner City Mission, 913 S. Broad Street., Mobile, Ala. 36603 or your favorite church or charity.

Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street Extension in Mobile, was in charge of arrangements.

Julia Mondelle Waldrop

Julia Mondelle Waldrop, 81, died July 31, 2001 of respiratory failure at Wesley Methodist Hospital in Hattiesburg. Her funeral service was held Friday morning, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Wayne VanHorn and Dr. Russell Bush officiating. Interment followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Waldrop was born March 8, 1920 in Marion County. She graduated from Improve High School and attended Pearl River Junior College where she enjoyed participating in music, drama and basketball. She married her childhood sweetheart, J.T. Waldrop, on Nov. 26, 1937. They had two daughters, Joandel and Judy.

Mondelle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Waldrop was an active member of First Baptist Church in Columbia. Her committment to the Lord was the driving force behind her love for others and her passion for life could be found each Sunday morning in the four year-old children’s department where she served for many years. God blessed her with a musical talent that she used for the Lord by playing the piano in church, Sunday School, civic clubs, weddings and funerals. She was interested in education and civic organizations, and was a long time member of the Town Club and the As You Like It Club. For about 20 years, she played the piano for the Rotary Club and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award.

Survivors include: her husband, J.T. Waldrop; daughter, Joandel Waldrop of Ridgeland and daughter and son-in-law, Ennis and Judy Proctor of Clinton; two grandchildren, Kim Morrow of Shelbyville, Ken. and Trey Proctor of Brandon; grandson-in-law, Austin Morrow; granddaughter-in-law, Regina Proctor, and four great-grandchildren, Caroline and Kathryn Ann Morrow, Hayley and Caden Hall Proctor.

Pallbearers were Woodrow Brumfield, Herman Rowley, Ray Knight, Paul Pounds, Pete Robbins, Dr. Gerald Morris, Kelton Morris and Winston Morris.

Honoray pallbearers were members of Mr. Waldrop’s Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Columbia.

Charles Rawls

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Woodlawn Cemetery for Charles Rawls of Navarre, Fla., formerly of Columbia.

Mr. Rawls was born in Columbia on June 7, 1919 to Hollis C. Rawls and Adele Mounger Rawls. He attended Jefferson Military College in Mississippi State University with a mechanical engineer degree. After graduation, he went to Thompson Rawls, the wife of his late brother, Ben M. Rawls, and Nell Newsom McNeese of Columbia.

Gene Saucier

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. in the New Bunkerhill Cemetery for Gene Saucier, 65, of Columbia, who died Friday, Aug. 3 at the V.A. Hospital in Jackson. The Rev. Jim Ray officiated at the service.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

A native of Marion County, he was in the cattle and dairy business and was a member of the New Bunkerhill Baptist Church. He served in the Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Saucier and Lillian Mae Robertson Saucier.

Survivors include: one daughter, Gina Sones of Columbia; one sister, Marilyn Autrey of Columbia; five brothers, Felder Saucier of Foxworth, Lavelle Saucier of Carterville, Gerald Saucier of Bogaulsa, La., Wayne Saucier and Doyle Saucier of Columbia; and five grandchildren.

Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marcille Rayburn

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Marcille Rayburn, 86, of Columbia, who died Sunday, Aug. 5 at The Myrtles. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The Rev. Brett Golson and the Rev. Ron Burch officiated at the service assisted by the Rev. Valton Douglas. She was the daughter of the late Irvin Buckley and Lula Robertson Buckley.

Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 6 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

A native of Marion County, she was a housewife and a member of Goss Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, George Wesley Rayburn.

Survivors include: three daughters, Louise Berry of Slidell, La., Judy Calhoun of Florence and Barbara Moree of Columbia; two sons, Gene Rayburn of Columbia and Glen Rayburn of Sumrall; two sisters, Haughty Singley of Goss and Ruby Nell McNeese; four brothers, Horace Buckley, Ervin Buckley, Dan Buckley and John Buckley; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a host of other relatives.

Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph W. Peak

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Oak Grove United Pentecostal Church for Joseph W. Peak, 70, of Foxworth who died Thursday, Aug. 2 at Forrest General Hospital. Interment was in the church cemetery. The Rev. Felix Arnold officiated at the service.

Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 3 at the church from 5 p.m. until service time.

A native of Marion County, he worked in construction and was a member of Oak Grove Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Elaine Thornhill Peak; three daughters, Carolyn Patrick of Hazelhurst, Annie Boone of Mt. Sinia and Anita Hall of Sebastapol; five sons, William Peak, Cleve Peak and Harlon Peak of Columbia, Tommy Peak and David Peak of Foxworth; one sister, Velma Sauls of Salem; one brother, Clem Peak of Foxworth; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph W. Price , 77, of Foxworth, who died July 31 at Marion General Hospital. Interment was in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Kenneth Rocko officiated at the service assisted by Charles Phillips and Timothy Madden.
Visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 2 from 5 p.m. until service time.

A native of Marion County, he was a motorman in the oil field and was a member of Pine Grove Pentecostal Church. He served in the Army.

Survivors include: his wife, Annie Merle Price of Brookhave; one sister, Virgina Carney of Foxworth; one brother, Harvey Price , Justin price, Jamie Texas, Edith Harrell of Columbia, Lois Chisson of Houma, La., David Stuckey of Crestview, Fla., and Roger Stuckey of Columbia; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Community Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Nona McDaniel
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Nona McDaniel, 95, of Marion County, who died Thursday, Jan. 24 at her residence. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Bro. Brent Trussell officiated at the service.

Visitation was held Saturday, Jan. 26 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.

A native of Marion County, she was a retired beautician and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include: three daughters, Charlotte Dockins of South Gate, Calif.; one son, Charles B. McDaniel of Columbia; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Toxie Polk
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 28, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Toxie Polk, 88, of Columbia, who died Jan. 26 at his residence. Interment was in the new Bunker Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Ray officiated at the service assisted by the Rev. David Perry.

Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 27 from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.

A native of Lamar County, the son of Charlie and Mary Polk, he was a construction superintendent and a member of Bunker Hill Baptist Church. He served in the Navy Sea Bees.

Survivors include: his wife, Iva Lois Grantham Polk; one daughter, Rebecca “Becky” McPhail of Carson; one son, Toxie D. Polk of Columbia; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were: Johnny E. May, John May, Charles Lewis Polk, Jamie Shivers, Scott Mobley, Jason Hutto, Donald Robbins and Carl Boone.

Maude R. Hammond
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church for Maude R. Hammond, 83, of Sandy Hook, who died Sunday, Jan. 27. Interment was in the Hurricane Creek Cemetery. The Rev. M.L. Wallace officiated at the service.

Visitation was held after 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28 at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church until service time.
A native of New Orleans, La., she was a machine operator for a parachute manufacturing company and a member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, P.J. Hammond, in 1989.

Survivors include: two daughters, Theomae Stringer of Foxworth and Elaine Ball of Sandy Hook; tow sons, Carroll Hammond of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Claude Hammond of Sandy Hook; one brother, Elijah Smith Jr., of Sandy Hook; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Edna Lott Ross
Edna Marie Lott Ross, 94, retired R.N., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 at Richland Place Nursing Home in Nashville, Tenn., where she has resided since July of 2000. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Colonial Funeral Home. The service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Ross was born in Seminary on Nov. 11, 1907. She lived most of her life in Columbia. She graduated from Seminary High School and from the Columbia Hospital Training School for Nursing in 1932. For over 50 years she served her family and community as a registered nurse. She was a long-time faithful member of First Baptist Church in Columbia.

Her husband, John Maxie Ross, preceded her in death. She was the last surviving member of the Winfield Scott Lott and Fannie Thames Lott family.

Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Ross Brakefield and James M. Brakefield of Nashville, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Ann Ross of Clinton; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Patrick Brakefield, Tim Daniels, Jimmy Dickerson, John Godard, Nick Purvis, Mike Ross and Charles Speed.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 900 High School Ave., Columbia, Miss., 39429.

J.P. Stogner
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 28, 2002 at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home Chapel for J.P. Stogner, 80, of Prentiss, who died at Covington County Hospital on July 26. The Rev. Darren Wigington and the Rev. L.C. Anthony officiated at the service. Interment followed in the Brady Cemetery. Pallbearers were Johnathan Kerley, Jason Kerley, Scott May, Eric May, Lance Jerrell and Josh Stogner.

Mr. Stogner was a native of Walthall County, the son of Texas; three daughters, Judy Kerley of Bassfield, Rhonda Jerrell of Angie La., and Patsy May of Columbia; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Alton Stogner of Sandy Hook and Clyde Stogner of Middlesboro, Ken., and one sister, Eddie Rea Reagan of Tylertown.

Loren Zehentner
Funeral services were held Friday, July 26, 2002 at 10 a.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Loren Zehentner, 44, of Columbia, who died Monday, July 22 at his residence. Interment was in the Clear Creek Cemetery. Bro. Perry Robbins officiated at the service.

Visitation was held Thursday, July 24 from 4:30 p.m. until 10 p.m.

A native of Houston,Texas, Joseph Zehentner of Atlanta, Ga., and Robert Zehentner of Houston, Texas.

Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
