Thomas E. Byrd
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 2 p.m. inthe Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Thomas E. “Tommy” Byrd, 49, of Columbia, who died Thursday, July 25 at Forrest General Hospital. Bro. David Young officiated at the service assissted by Bro. James Keith Byrd.

Visitation was held Friday, July 26 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.

A native of Marion County, he was self-employed, and was a member of Chapel of the Cross Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his parents, George and Ella Byrd of Columbia; one sister, Carolyn Burton of Columbia, and one brother, George Lewis Byrd of Columbia.
Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Evan Williamson
Funeral services were held Monday, July 29, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the Society Hill Baptist Church for Evan Williamson, 53, of Columbia, who died Saturday, July 27 at his residence. Interment was in the Society Hill Cemetery. Bro. Glen Nelson officiated at the service.
Visitation was held Sunday, July 28 from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.

A native of Marion County, he was an oilfield worker and a member of Society Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Deborah Sawyer Williamson of Columbia; his mother, Ella Williamson; one daughter, Monica Lott of Columbia; two sons, Carvin Williamson and Christopher Williamson of Columbia; three sisters, Mary Lou Vice, Peggy Ostiemer and Vicky Robbins of Columbia; two brothers, Russell Williamson and Elbert Williamson of Columbia; and two grandchildren, John Evan Lott and Hannah Lott.

Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Temples
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 10 a.m. in the Community Funeral Home Chapel for Robert “Sonny” L. Temples, 69, of Columbia, who died July 22 at Marion General Hospital. Interment was in the Good Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Burch officiated at the service.

Visitation was held Tuesday, July 23 from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.

A native of Columbia, he was retired from GNB out of Memphis, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emiline Temples and Frank Temples; two sisters, Frankie Bennett and Ruby Bass; and one brother, James Temples.

Survivors include: three daughters, Diane Broyles, Darlene Moree and Jane Breeland; one son, Robby Temples; one sister, Letha Castilaw; six grandchildren, Shannon Broyes, Aaron Broyles, Robin Moree, Karen Moree, Neal Breeland Jr., and Matthew Temples; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were: Jackie Temples, Billy Temples, Kerry Walker, Joshua Roe, Jesse Brasseal and Erwin Ace “Porky” Breeland.

Community Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Melissa Henderson
Funeral services were held April 5, 2003 in the Smith Funeral Home chapel for Melissa Shanta Henderson, 31, of Columbia, who died at Walthall County Hospital.

Burial was in the Little Rock Cemetery, with Pastor Timothy Magee officiating.
A native of Columbia, she was a member of New Damascus Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elijah Henderson; brother, Willie Ray Henderson.

Survivors include her mother, Ruthie Mae Henderson; three daughters Sandora Henderson, Maklya Henderson, Marissa Henderson; five sisters, Mary Henderson, Brenda Henderson, Wilda Faye Henderson, Tracey Henderson, Lawanda Henderson; three brothers, Linzy Ray Henderson, Billie Henderson, Bobby Henderson; also a special friend Percy Lenoir Sr., and his son Percy Lenoir Jr.

Pallbears; Shawn Hunter, Henry Lee Green , Michael McLendon, Robert Harvey, Rory Forbes, Billy Magee.

Carrie Johnson
Funeral services were held March 27, 2003 in the Ford Chapel Baptist Church, for Carrie V. Johnson, 92, of Columbia, who died at Forrest General Hospital.

Burial was in the Ford Chapel Cemetery, with Rev. Edward Mark Sr. officiating.
A native of Sandy Hook she was a member of Ford Chapel Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by both parents; four brothers, Simmy, Will, Curt and W.L. Harry; one sister Sofroni; husband Milous Johnson; two children, Martha and Jimmy; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters Ruthie Foxworth, Anne Smith, Lee Peyton; two sons Theodore Galloway, Enoch Johnson; three sisters, 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren.

Pallbears were Julius Smith, Johnny May, Shelton May, Andrew Smith, Johnnie Peyton, James Smith.

Smith Funeral Home of Columbia was in charge of arrangements.

Willie Jackson
Funeral services were held Saturday April 5, 2003 at the Second Hopewell M.B. Church, for Willie James Jackson, 74, of Sumrall, who died at Forrest General Hospital.

Burial was in the Second Hopewell Cemetery with rev. Micheal Graves officiating.

A native of Lamar County he was retired and was a member of Second Hopewell M.B. Church, and served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Jackson Sr.; mother Florence Hall Jackson; son Wayne Jackson; two brothers, Hollis Jackson and Earl Jackson Sr.

Survivors include three daughters, Jacqueline Smith, Ga Joy Oatis of Sumrall, Michelle Waller of Columbia; three sons Micheal Jackson of Parker of Columbia; seven sisters, Louise Rawls of Fl, Exie Jean Rawls, Veria Turner, Estella Jackson, Juanita Green wood, Ruth Pope and Verlee Gaddis; five brothers, George B. Jackson of Fl, Albert Jackson Jr. of Sumrall, Cleo Jackson of Ga, David Jackson of Columbia, Clarence Jackson of Sumrall.

Pallbearers were Micheal Jackson, James Artis Jackson, David Jackson Sr. George Ben Jackson, O’Neal Parker, Cleo Jackson.
Smith Funeral Home of Columbia was in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Lee McGowan
Funeral services were held Friday March 28, 2003 in the True Gospel COGIC, in New Orleans, La, for Glenn Lee McGowan, 67, of New Orleans, La.

Burial was in the Little Rock Baptist Church Cemetary with Pastor Lee Franklin officiating and Bishop J.A. Gardner assisting.

A native of Jeff Davis County she was a factory worker and a member of Ebeneezer Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Colbert Manton; grandson, Joe Robbins; nine brothers and sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Odelle Saulters of Prentiss, Imogene Robbins of Columbia; one sister Mamie Swales of Carson; two grandchildren; 5 great- grandchildren.

Colonial Funeral Home of Columbia was in charge of arrangements.

George E. Stringer
Funeral services were held Tuesday March 25,2003 at the Chapel of Colonial Funeral Home for George “Hackie” Stringer, 55, of Columbia, who died at his residence.

Burial was in the Lott Cemetary, with Bro. Tim Bedwell officiating and Bro. David Jones and Bro. Patrick Reagan assisting. Mosonic rights were held at the cemetary. He was a Master Mason and Shriner.

A native of Marion County he was a Law Enforcement Officer MDOT. He was a member of Mays Creek Church of God.

Where he served as an Elder of his church.

He was preceded in death by his father Albert Stringer.

He is survived by his mother Mollie McCain Stringer White, one brother Jackie Stringer, all of Columbia; three sisters, Veta Broom and Frances Blackwell of Columbia and Reba Miller of Sandy Hook; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were his co-workers with MDOT.

Music was provided by Ramona Herring and Ashley Bedwell.

Colonial Funeral Home of Columbia was in charge of arrangements.

Howard Loftin
Funeral services were held Tuesday April 8, 2003 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Howard Loftin, 79, of Columbia who died at The Veterans Nursing Home in Collins.

Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery. With Pastor Kenneth Peavy officiating and David Jager assisting.

A native of Marion County he was a retired from trucking industry and a member of Edna Baptist Church. And was in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Oretus Loftin; one son Stephen Loftin and one grandson, Jamie Pachmayr.

Survivors include wife, Mrs. Eloise Langston Loftin of Columbia; one daughter Judy Pachmayr of Columbia; two sons Michael Loftin of Columbia and Mark Loftin of Poplarville; one sister, Wilda Buckley of Clinton; two brothers, Scott Loftin of Baton Rouge, La and Marshall Loftin of Centerville; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.

Colonial Funeral Home of Columbia was in charge of arrangements.
