Mrs. Magee was a member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church. She was born Jan. 28, 1913, at Walthall County, daughter of the late Jasper and Mae Ella Brumfield Warner. Survivors include her grandchildren, James Jerry “Denny” Denman II, Pattie Denman Rhian and Cynthia Colden Denman; and one great-granddaughter. Burial was in Warner-Haley Cemetery with Crain Funeral Home of Franklinton in charge.
Mary M. Mentzer

Memorial services for Mary Mollenkopf Mentzer, 68, were set Oct. 12, 2005, at Capps Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lamar Massengill officiating. She died Oct. 7, 2005, in an auto accident. Mrs. Mentzer was a longtime director of nursing at Walthall General Hospital. She was a member of Tylertown United Methodist Church. She was born Oct. 14, 1936, at Williamsport, Pa., daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth Mollenkopf. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Mentzer; and a sister, Betty Bower. Survivors include a son, Scott Allen Mentzer and his wife, Debbie; two grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Mentzer, all of Goodland, Kans.; a sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Nelson Briefer; one brother, Charles Mollenkopf of Ormond Beach, Fla. The family requests memorials to Christmas in the Park, 157 Old Hwy. 98 East, Tylertown, MS 39667. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Capps Funeral Home in charge.
Mary LaGrange Boyd

Funeral services for Mary LaGrange Boyd, 66, of Enon, were Feb. 5, 2006, at Capps Funeral Home with Revs. Barry Cutrer and Michael Knippers officiating. She died Feb. 3, 2006, at her residence. Mrs. Boyd was a homemaker. She was a member of the Enon Fire Dept. where she took an active role with her husband. “She did whatever she had to do, spray water, run the pumps, take pictures. She was really the incident commander a lot of times,” her husband said. “Anytime there was a fire or first responder call, if she could, she would be there.” In addtion, Mrs. Boyd was the unofficial secretary of the group, keeping roll of who attended meetings and keeping up with the roster.” She was also a member of the Quilt Club of McComb and Quilt Club of Brookhaven. She was born June 5, 1939, at Tickfaw, La., daughter of Mary Campise of Mandeville and the late Joseph Campise. Survivors include her mother, her husband, A.L. “Sonny” Boyd; three children, Betty Ann LaGrange Esquinance, Jerry Joseph LaGrange and Don Anthony LaGrange, all of Mandeville; two stepchildren, Ryan S. Boyd of Cottontown, Tenn., and Tanya M. Rushing of Jayess; eight grandchildren, Chris and Jennifer Esquinance, Jerry Michael, Brett and Brandon LaGrange, Brett and Reese Boyd, and Tristan Rushing. Pallbearers were members of Enon Fire Dept. Burial was in Enon Cemetery with Capps Funeral Home in charge.

Funeral services for Doris Lee, 73, were Feb. 5, 2006, at Miracle Lighthouse Church with Revs. Charles Ray Creel and Billy Ray Phelps officiating. Mrs. Lee, a resident of Sandy Hook, died Feb. 2, 2006, at her residence. She was a housewife. Mrs. Lee was born Aug. 11, 1931, at Amite, La., daughter of the late Rosa Hollie. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marion Wilson Lee; and a daughter, Delores Diane Lee. Survivors include two daughters, Hilda Darlene Landry of Sandy Hook and Elizabeth Ann Collums of Tremont; one sister, Mary Ann Hollie of Sandy Hook; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were John Wellman, Andrew Davis, Paul Wellman, Michael Wellman, Matthew Fornea and Tony Middleton. Burial was in the church cemetery with Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in charge.
Barbara Gartman

Funeral services for Barbara Ann Gartman, 63, of Pricedale, were Feb. 3, 2006, at Calvary Baptists Church, Pricedale with Dr. Earl Surber and Rev. Ron West officiating. She died Jan. 30, 2006, at her residence. Mrs. Gartman was a retired legal secretary, having worked for Johnson Controls, the contract company for NASA. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pricedale, where her husband, the late Rev. Harold Gartman, pastored for 19 years before his death in November 2005. She was a member of the W.M.U. and the ladies Sunday school class. She was born July 3, 1942, in Jackson, daughter of Willie Luther Stubbs and Velma Bates Brooks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Kenneth Brooks; her husband; and one brother, Thomas “Sonny” Stubbs. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Kellie Gartman of Starkville, and Gene Gartman of Suffolk, Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Bruce Lozier of McComb; one brother, Garland “Bud” Bowen of Eupora; two grandchildren, Bonnie and Kandi Spangler, both of McComb; one brother-in-law, Ray Gordon Gartman Jr. of Schulenburg, Texas; one sister-in-law, Donna Bellman and husband Deric of Des Moines, Iowa. Pallbearers will be deacons of the church. Memorials may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 1009 Pricedale Drive, Summit, MS 39666. Burial was in the church cemetery with Catchings Funeral Home of McComb in charge.

Funeral services for Ruby Duncan Fortinberry, 95, were Feb. 3, 2006, at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Blackwell officiating. She died Feb. 1, 2006, at her residence. Mrs. Fortinberry was a homemaker. She was born May 5, 1910, in Marion County, daughter of the late John Martin Duncan and the late Ada Thomas Duncan. Survivors include two sons, Charles Richard Fortinberry and Venn Fortinberry, both of Tylertown; one daughter, Joan Fortinberry of Tylertown; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Keith Fortinberry, Kevin Fortinberry, Kalem Fortinberry, Hank Fortinberry, Will Fortinberry and Tommy McKinney. Honorary pallbearers were Chuck Fortinberry, Dean Fortenberry, David Fortenberry, McNeil Mitchell, Greg Mitchell, Shay Hughes, Harold Pope and Chris Foil. ‘Fred’ Gonzales
Memorial service for Sigifredo “Fred” Gonzales, 98, were Feb. 4, 2006, at Schoen Funeral Home Covington, La. He died Jan. 17, 2006. In 1931, Gonzales left his home in Mexico immigrated to San Antonio, TX where he graduated from High School in 1935 then moved to New Orleans, LA graduating from Loyola’s Law School in 1942. He met and married Ruth Delcambre Brock in 1951. After retiring from Transoceantic Shipping Co. in 1981, he lived his retired life in Metairie, La., and a country home in Tylertown. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Delcambre Brock Gonzales; children, Marion “Sonny” Gonzales of Mandeville, La., and Maria S. G. McLellandof Lacombe, La.; grandchildren, Spencer Ryan Gonzales, Erica Spencina McLelland and Taylor Brice McLelland; sisters: Maria “Meme” Mauela (age 101), Rebeca Leal (age 91) and Josepha “Peppa” Carizon all from Montemorelos, Mexico. Internment was set at Silver Creek Cemetery with Schoen Funeral Home of Covington in charge.
Mrs. Mattie Lee Smith

Services for Mrs. Mattie Lee Smith, 81, of Tunica were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery here. Rev. Danny Smith and Rev. Joe Young of Drew, MS officiated at the services.
Mrs. Smith, a homemalker, died Sept. 8 at Baptist Hospital DeSoto in Southaven, MS.
The widow of the late John Russell Smith, Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter Geneva Hodge of Kosciusko, MS; two sons, W.T. Smith of Drew and John R. Smith of Senatobia, MS; two sisters, Montez Moore of Stantonville, TN and Inez Miller of Tunica; sixteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, David Snith.
Pallbearers were Tommy Smith, Andy Smith, Anthony Smith, Jason Stull, Lance Ware, Herbert Joe Miller, Edward Miller, and Robert Miller.

Services for Charles Edward Weeks, 65, of Crenshaw, MS wqere at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2001 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Truslow Cemetery in Crenshaw. Rev. James McCluskey officiated at the services.
Mr. Weeks, a retired superintendent for CP House Gas Co. in Cleveland, died Sept. 7 at Baptist Hospital DeSoto in Southaven, MS. He served in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Specialist, 3rd Class.
Mr. Weeks is survived by two daughters, Rita Flowers of Asklew, MS and L. Becky Sexton of Strayhorn, MS; one son, Bobby Edward Weeks of League, TX; two sisters, Jimmie Ruth Carrol of Cleveland and Betty Hewitt, both of Cleveland; one brother, James Weeks of Cleveland; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Duff Woodard, Jimmy Weeks, Joey Weeks, Todd Hewitt, Mark Weeks and James Weeks.

Services for Walter Freeman Gray, Sr., 71, of Tunica were held on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Tunica United Methodist Church, with burial in Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale, MS. Rev. Doug Hardin officiated at the services.
Mr. Gray, a salesman for Parker Tractor in Tunica, died June 9 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven, MS. He was born in Panola County on January 2, 1931 and had served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Gray is survived by his wife Ann Carpenter Gray of Tunica; a daughter, Vickie Gray Kimzey of Horn Lake, MS; three sons, David Wayne Gray of Louisville, KY, Dennis Dewayne Gray of Memphis, TN, and Walter Gray, Jr. of Tunica; one sister, Irene Fowler of Memphis, TN; one brother, Jessie Lee Gray of Batesville, MS; and eleven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jim Pegram, Joseph Kimzey, Bradley Gray, Joe Kimzey, Abbott Myers, and Michael Gray.

Mrs. Mary Alice Timms Williams

Age: 65
Former Tunican Mrs. Mary Alice Timms Williams, 65, died June 5 at Methodist Health Care Hospital in Germantown, TN.
Mrs. Williams was born in Tunica on October 13, 1936, to the late Mary and Edwin Bryan Timms of Tunica. She was a 1954 graduate of Tunica County High School, attended Mississippi State College for Women, and received an accounting degree from Memphis State University. She was an avid gardener and world traveler. One of her many interests was a love of fine art.
Mrs. Williams is surived by her husband Troy Williams; three daughters, Mary Evelyn Rea of Memphis, TN, Carol Ann Devereaux of Dallas, TX, and Alice Ruth Stipe of Blaine, TN; two sisters, Dorothy Ann Vargas of San Antonio, TX, and Carolyn Hicks of Wilmington, North Carolina; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Richard 'Dick' Thornton

Graveside services for Richard "Dick" Thornton, 54, of Bartlett, TN, were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2002 at Oakwood Cemetery in Tunica. Rev. Doug Hardin officiated at the services.
Thornton, a supervisor, died June 4 at his home. He was a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by three sisters, Mollie Rudoxie Vannada of New Orleans, LA, Myra Dell Jones of Bartlett, TN, and Brannon Leigh Williams, also of New Orleans; and one brother, Michael Herdie Thornton of Petal, MS.
Pallbearers were Pete Nelson, Marvin Earnheart, James Michael Vannada, Paul Battle III, Tim Nelson, James Gaters, Evans Cooper, and Bill Battle.

Mrs. Mary Jo Perry Cox
Died: Monday, June 3, 2002
Age: 86
Services for Mrs. Mary Jo Perry Cox, 86, of Tunica, were held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Church of the Epiphany Episcopal in Tunica, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery here. The Rev. Grady Richardson and the Rev. David Thom officiated at the services.
A lifelong Tunica homemaker, Mrs. Cox died Monday, June 3 at her home. Born in the Perry family home in Tunica County on December 15, 1915, Mrs. Cox was educated at All Saints in Vicksburg, St. Mary's in Memphis, and Dodd College in Shreveport, LA, then returned to Tunica, where she married the late Robert S. Cox and lived near her family's home for the balance of her life. She and her husband were married for over 55 years.
She and Mr. Cox enjoyed hunting and the outdoors together and were very active in their children's activities, especially 4-H and Girl Scouts, where Mrs. Cox was instrumental in bringing the program to Tunica County and in the construction of the old Scout hut in town. She also helped organize a local saddle club and supported her children's participation in this, as well as music, dance, and scholastics. She and Mr. Cox were also among the original supporters of Tunica Institute of Learning.
In later life, she enjoyed sewing and embroidery with a group of ladies in town. "Every stitch was perfect," said her oldest daughter Virginia Weeks of Memphis.
Mrs. Cox is survived by three other daughters, Judy C. Dykes of Alabaster, AL, Dr. Jo Cochran of Memphis, and Pam C. Powell of Birmingham, AL; one son, Robert S. Cox III of Mountain Home, AR; two sisters, Virginia Perry Weller of Tustin, CA, and Elizabeth Perry Shipley of Orange, CA; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were George Pace Perry, Duke Perry, Pace Perry, Chris Perry, Steve Perry, Whit Perry, Alex Perry, and Mike Perry. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Musgrave, Jim Ridley, and Mike Boren.

Services for Mrs. Sarah Seaton Wilson, 75, of Tunica were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2002, at Tunica United Methodist Church, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Doug Hardin officiated at the services.
Mrs.Wilson, a retired clerk for Ms. Power & Light Co., died May 17 at Baptist Progressive Care in Southaven, MS, following a long illness. She was a member of Tunica Methodist Church and the Tunica County Woman's Club.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband James M. Wilson of Tunica; one daughter, Barbara Tutless of Olive Branch, MS; and one sister, Clara Paeglow of Memphis, TN.
Pallbearers were Jim Mason, Jimmy Eubanks, Brad Cobb, Kent Taylor, Hugh Hawkins, and Francis Boyd. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Rushton, Wayne Rials, Manny Rico, Jim Tucker, Larry Sowell, and Paulette Ellison.
Reginald O'Hara Hudson

Services for Reginald O'Hara Hudson, 47, of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Tunica, were held Sunday, May 19, 2002, at St. Peter A.M.E. Church in Tunica. Rev. Ike Reed officiated.
Mr.Hudson, a teacher, hair stylist and manager at Wal-Green Distribution Center and Emery World Wide in Chicago, died May 15 in Evanston, Illinois. He was a member of First Church of Deliverance, where he served as usher. Butch, as he was fondly called, graduated with honors from Rosa Fort High School in 1972. He toured Europe as a member of America Youth in Concert, then enrolled at Jackson State University, where he earned a bachelors degree in business administration. He also received a degree in cosmetology and was a Prince Hall Mason-Crump Lodge 60.
Mr. Hudson is survived by his parents James and Lucille Hudson of Tunica; five brothers, Mark Hudson of Chicago, Larry McKinney and Kenneth Hudson, both of Memphis, TN, and Van Siggers and Anthony Hudson of Tunica; two sisters, Regina Kirtz of Detroit, MI and Timitra Hudson of Memphis; and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Carl Hudson.
Billis D. Frew

Age: 78
Services for Billis D. Frew, 78, of Madison, MS, formerly of Tunica, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2002, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery here.
Mr. Frew, who was retired from MS. Federated Corp., died May 14 at the Veterans' Hospital in Jackson, MS. He had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He is survived by his wife Francis Savage Frew of Madison; one daughter, Billie F. Frew of Jackson, MS; three sons, David Frew of Pineville, LA, Dennis Frew of Pascagoula, MS, and Timmie D. Frew of Greenville, MS; two sisters, Wanda Smart of Stevens, AL, and Betty Bailey of St.Louis, MO; one brother, Jimmie Frew of McAlister, OK; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
