Mrs. Mattie Lee Smith
Died: Saturday, September 08, 2001

Services for Mrs. Mattie Lee Smith, 81, of Tunica were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery here. Rev. Danny Smith and Rev. Joe Young of Drew, MS officiated at the services.

Mrs. Smith, a homemalker, died Sept. 8 at Baptist Hospital DeSoto in Southaven, MS.

The widow of the late John Russell Smith, Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter Geneva Hodge of Kosciusko, MS; two sons, W.T. Smith of Drew and John R. Smith of Senatobia, MS; two sisters, Montez Moore of Stantonville, TN and Inez Miller of Tunica; sixteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, David Snith.

Pallbearers were Tommy Smith, Andy Smith, Anthony Smith, Jason Stull, Lance Ware, Herbert Joe Miller, Edward Miller, and Robert Miller.

The family requests that any memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Tunica.

Charles Edward Weeks
Died: Friday, September 07, 2001

Services for Charles Edward Weeks, 65, of Crenshaw, MS wqere at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2001 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Truslow Cemetery in Crenshaw. Rev. James McCluskey officiated at the services.

Mr. Weeks, a retired superintendent for CP House Gas Co. in Cleveland, died Sept. 7 at Baptist Hospital DeSoto in Southaven, MS. He served in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Specialist, 3rd Class.

Mr. Weeks is survived by two daughters, Rita Flowers of Asklew, MS and L. Becky Sexton of Strayhorn, MS; one son, Bobby Edward Weeks of League, Georgia and Charlott Ferguson of Hernando, MS; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers were Mike Walton, Tom Ferguson, David Gibson, Steve Sosebee, Mike Hill, Robert Williams, Bobby Papasan, and Norman Wilkes. Honorary pallbearers were Owen Bibb, Ellis Koonce, Jimmy Erwin, Phil Lachousse, John E. Matthews, Bobby Williams, Scott Arnold, and Jack Day Perry.

The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church.

John Franklin "Frank" Lee, Jr.
Died: Sunday, August 26, 2001

John Franklin "Frank" Lee, Jr., 59, of Memphis, TN died August 26, 2001 at his home. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29 at the West TN Veterans Cemetery.

Mr. Lee was a truck driver with Teamsters Local 984 and served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife Paula Lee; two daughters, Sherry Pugh of Southaven, MS and Tami Anderson of Walls, MS, and a stepdaughter Carolyn Glaze of Memphis, TN; three stepsons, Bobby Barlow of Bartlett, TN, Billy Barlow of Hot Springs, AR, and Johnny Barlow of Oxford, MS; three sisters, Sherry Pugh and Sandra Kelso, and Geraldine Wheeler, all of Southaven; and 7 grandchildren.

The family requests that any memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Eric Haynes
Died: Thursday, March 13, 2003

Services for Eric Haynes, 26, of Memphis, TN, were held at noon on Saturday, March 22, 2003, at Union Street Church of Christ, with burial in Grant's Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Haynes died March 13 in Henning, TN. He is survived by his parents, Sam Haynes and Ida Mae Haynes of Memphis; two daughters, Evelyn Shanta Foster and Navie Edawards, both of Memphis; a son, Marikus Atkins of Memphis; two brothers, Rico Haynes and Tristan Haynes, both of Memphis; his grandmother, Beulah Jones of Birdie, MS; and a great-grandmother, Pearlie Hyson of Green ville, MS.

J.W. Butler
Died: Thursday, February 20, 2003
Age: 67

Services for J.W. Butler, 67, of Clarksdale, MS, were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2003, at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksdale, with burial in Oakridge Cemetery. Rev. Edd Lawrence officiated at the services.

Mr. Butler, retired owner of Clarksdale Music and owner-operator of Butler Rentals, died February 20 at his home. He was born in Tunica on August 9, 1935, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Elks Club and American Legion and attended Clarksdale Baptist Church.

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife Sue Welch Butler of Clarksdale; his mother Fannie Mae Butler of Clarksdale; three sons, James Butler of Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas, David Butler of Rena Lara, MS, and Jon Butler of Little Rock, AR; and four grandchildren, Clint Butler and Brandon Butler of Memphis, TN, Jay Butler of Clarksdale, and Presley Butler of Little Rock.

Mrs. Margaret Duvall
Died: Saturday, February 08, 2003

Services for Mrs. Margaret Duvall, 86, of Dundee, MS, were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2003, at C.O. Pate Funeral Home in Senatobia, MS, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Tunica.

Mrs. Duvall died February 8 at her home. She was a member of the Pentacostal Church of God.

Mrs. Duvall is survived by four daughters, Wanda Clark of Oxford, MS, Frances Powell of Tunica, Margaret Davis of Dundee, and Jane Cranford of Patrick, SC; four sons, Charles Duvall of Indianapolis, IN, Brenda Elizabeth Earnheart of Texas Baptist Church, Horn Lake Blue Lodge, and Order of the Eastern Star in Coldwater, MS, and had been the minister at Little TX; his brother-in-law Ricky Gattis, who was raised and loved as a son by Rev. Stewart; two sisters, Opal Mullins of Coldwater, MS, and Dot Garrigus of Millington, TN; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials to the American Heart Association.

Ransom Aldrich Myers
Died: Thursday, February 06, 2003
Age: 80

Services for Ransom Aldrich Myers, Sr., 80, of Tunica, formerly of Lula, MS, were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at Tunica United Methodist Church, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Doug Hardin officiated at the services.

Mr. Myers, prominent citizen and innovative planter in the Dundee area, died Sunday, February 2, at home. He was a graduate of Tunica County High School and NC; two sons, Abbott R. Myers of Dundee and Ransom Aldrich Myers, Jr., of Halifax, Nova Scotia; two step-daughters, Diane Girdley Gelvin of Tunica, and Melinda Girdley Black of Fort Worth, Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, where he was an outstanding athlete, and completed graduate work at the University of Mississippi State University, and the University of Mississippi, including Warren Central High School in Vicksburg, where he was the first head coach, and most recently at Tunica Institute of Learning, where he was named private school Track Coach of the Year in 2002.

Mr. Albritton was a member of the M Club and Sports Hall of Fame at Mississippi Athlete of the Year and Mississippi, Arkansas, and Oklahoma City, OK; two daughters, Michele Ricker of Meridian, MS, and Cherie Anderton of Vicksburg; two sons, Jay Albritton of Vicksburg and Scott Albritton of Brandon, MS; a stepdaughter, Liesl Sanden Ross of Waukesha, WI; a stepson, Erich G. Doser of Ann Arbor, MI; one sister, Marty Odom of Mississippi College Athletic Department.

Mrs. Martha George Few Gelvin
Died: Thursday, December 26, 2002
Age: 84

Services for Mrs. Martha George Few Gelvin, 84, of Tunica, formerly of Gulfport, MS, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 28 at Brandford O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gulfport, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery there.

Mrs. Gelvin, an employee of Hancock Bank in Gulfport for 18 years, died December 26, 2002. She was born in Dancey, MS, on November 6, 1918, and lived in Eupora, MS and in Tunica from 1964 until 1973, where she was employed by the Department of Human Services and in the Chancery Clerk's office. In Gulfport, she was a member of Gulfport First Baptist Church, the Gideons Auxiliary, and Hancock Bank Retirees Association.

The widow of the late Smash Eugene Gelvin of Parkin, AR, Mrs. Gelvin is survived by one son, Steven Eugene Gelvin of Tunica; one daughter, Martha Karen Gelvin of Biloxi, MS; and four grandsons.

The family requests that memorials be made to Gideons International, 2900 Lebanon Road, Nashville, TN 37214.
