Shirley Cherry Whittington

Funeral: Graveside at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Biloxi National Cemetery.

OCEAN SPRINGS - Mrs. Shirley Cherry Whittington, 68, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, in Ocean Springs.

Mrs. Whittington, a resident of the community for 28 years, was a registered USAF nurse at the Biloxi Veterans Administration.

Survivors include her husband, Bennie B. Whittington of Ocean Springs; a daughter, Cheryl Schminke of Evansville, Ind.; three sons, Lynn Whittington of Montgomery, Ala., Kim Whittington of Pike-Road, Ala., and Danny Whittington of Rockledge, Fla.; a sister, Bettie Jo Bright of Washington, N.C., Ronald Cherry of Newbern, N.C., and Gerald Cherry of New York City, Mr. Brennan was a loving husband and proud father of nine children and 13 foster children. He attended St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs.

A highly decorated police officer, Mr. Brennan first served four years in the U.S. Army. He then spent the next 20 years solving crimes in New York Post, he moved his family to Mississippi State University in 1991, he moved his family to Ocean Springs and briefly worked for the Jackson County Department of Human Services. He joined the detectives of the Biloxi Police Department in 1996, where he was well respected. He recently earned a master's degree in criminal justice. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he did volunteer work for Handicapped Citizens.

Mr. Brennan was preceded in death by his mother, Della Brennan.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Brennan; his father, Edward Brennan of Michigan, Tommy and Kenny of Pennsylvania.

The entire Brennan family would like to express how grateful they are to the men and women of the Biloxi Police Department and the City of Biloxi for enabling us to enjoy precious time together through their sick-leave donation program. And to the folks of Southern Care Hospice, thank you for all the support you gave to our family.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church with an 11 a.m. Mass. Burial will be at the Biloxi National Cemetery.

Mitchell L. Cagle

Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home Chapel in Purvis. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. today at Hulett-Winstead.

BAY ST. LOUIS - Mitchell L. Cagle, 60, of Bay St. Louis, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in Bay St. Louis.

Mr. Cagle, a native of Lamar County, was retired. He was a Baptist and a member of the VFW Post in Lakeshore.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Williamson Cagle, his parents, John and Sara Tulley Cagle, and two brothers, Melvin Cagle and Mervin Cagle.

He is survived by two sons, Elvis Williamson of Poplarville and James Cagle of Pass Christian; one daughter, Barbara Lott of Bay St. Louis; two brothers, Morlan Cagle of Pearlington and Merlin Cagle of Oak Grove; two sisters, Mabel Hartfield of Purvis and Mellie Brown of Oak Grove; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. today at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Purvis.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Pinegrove Cemetery in Purvis.

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis was in charge of local arrangements.

Gary Allen Dobson

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Baptist Church in Seminary. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins.

SEMINARY - Gary Allen Dobson, 48, of Seminary died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, in Seminary.

Mr. Dobson, a native of Athens, Ga., was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. He was a factory worker at Mackie Newton Ceramics.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara H. Dobson of Seminary; two sons, James Wesley Dobson and David William Dobson, both of Seminary; his father, Horace G. Dobson of Gautier; his stepmother, Dodie Dobson of Ocean Springs; his mother and stepfather, Madge and Robert Martin of Hickory, N.C.; one brother, Kyle Dobson of Baltimore; one stepbrother, Heber Newton of Seminary; one sister, Susan Pilcher of McDonaough, Ga.; and three stepsisters, Jane Petrak of Ozark, Mo., and Linda Jackson and Claudia Cartee, both of Seminary.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight at Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Baptist Church in Seminary.

Jean C. Moore

Funeral: Private graveside services.

OCEAN SPRINGS - Jean C. Moore, 84, of Ocean Springs died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, in Ocean Springs.

Mrs. Moore had lived on the Coast for 22 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and had been a resident of Villa Maria Retirement Home in Ocean Springs for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Leeta Belle Conrad.

Survivors include a son, Richard Moore of Ocean Springs; and two grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Davis Taylor

Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday at New Bethel Baptist Church, Biloxi. Visitation from noon to 1 p.m. today at New Bethel Baptist Church.

BILOXI - Ruby Davis Taylor, 65, of Los Angeles died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in Los Angeles.

Ms. Taylor was a native of Biloxi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Evander and Cora Chambers Davis; her husband, Fred Taylor; a brother, Evander Davis Jr.; a sister, Cora Davis Murphy; and a grandchild. , Tristan Wright.

Survivors include a companion, Dorsey Dalton of Los Angeles; four daughters, Linda (Jean Paul) Hopkins of Carson, Texas; one sister, Melvina (Charles) Smith of Biloxi; three brothers, Russell (Jeleshia) Davis and Alonzo (Betty) Davis, both of Biloxi, and Albert Davis of Ocean Springs; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. today at New Bethel Baptist Church in Biloxi. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at New Bethel. Burial will be in the V.A. Cemetery in Biloxi.

Thurman Thrash

Funeral: Services were held Sept. 28 at McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel in Philadelphia, Miss.

PHILADELPHIA, Miss. - Thurman Thrash, 74, of Philadelphia, Miss., died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at Neshoba County General Hospital in Philadelphia.

Mr. Thrash owned and operated Thrash's Service Station in Philadelphia for many years. He was a member of New County Line Baptist Church and a lifetime member of VFW Carson Bounds Post 138.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stan Thrash.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Trash, of Philadelphia; two daughters, Jan McDonald and Lynn Sullender, both of Philadelphia; six sisters, Annie Ruth Whitecotton of Jackson, Claudia Mae Beaman of Gretna, Neb., Kathrine Moore of Gulfport, Peggy Lofton of Hattiesburg, and Dean Ward and Polly Akins, both of Philadelphia; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 28 at McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel in Philadelphia with burial in Cedarlawn Cemetery.

Geraldine Hickman Prine

Funeral: Tentatively set for 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Long Beach. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m.

LONG BEACH - Geraldine Hickman Prine, 67, of Long Beach died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, in Gulfport.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Long Beach. Service is tentatively set for 10 a.m. Burial will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens in Long Beach.

Riemann Funeral Home in Long Beach is in charge of arrangements.

Jeffery Paul Campbell

OCEAN SPRINGS - Jeffery Paul Campbell, 41, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in Gulfport.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Wade Campbell.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Qualls; his stepfather, Robert Qualls, both of Ocean Springs; a brother, Dale Campbell of Dayton, Mississippi Planning and Development District, and Gulf Park College. Mrs. Chandler was a member of the Gulfside Booster Club and The Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Harvey of Gulfport; four granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Riley Chapel United Methodist Church, where friends may call an hour before service time. Burial will be in Biloxi VA Cemetery. Richmond Funeral Home in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
