Daisy O. Smith, 95
Daisy O. Smith, 95, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Brendan House in Kalispell.
Daisy was born Oct. 19, 1908, in Devils Lake, N.D., to Benjamin and Clara Weaver Nelson. She moved to a homestead in Lincoln County near Rexford when she was 2 years old. The family logged and farmed for a living. Daisy was an avid outdoors person who enjoyed berry picking, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Daisy lived in Kalispell for the past 71 years, most of them at her home on Flathead Drive, where she enjoyed raising flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing braiding rugs, quilting, jewelry making and wood working. She also enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader of the local newspaper.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, E.L. Smith, in 1969; her daughter, Clara Mackey, in 1999; and a grandson, Brad Smith, in 1989.
She is survived by one son and his wife, James and Amber Smith, of Havre; a sister, Faith and Don Lasher of Kalispell; four grandchildren, Susan and Donny Davis of Phenix City, Ala., Daniel and Wendi Mackey of Stayton, Ore., Melissa Smith and David of San Francisco, and Terri and Keith Johnson of Belgrade; four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jan Van der Poll of Central Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Glacier Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Buffalo Hill Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Marian Mitchell, 60
Marian Mitchell, 60, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at the Brendan House in Kalispell, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on Sept. 16, 1943, in Kalispell, to Melford and Ruth (Johnson) Nordtome.
A lifelong resident of Kalispell, Marian was a fun, loving, outgoing friend to everyone she would meet. She loved being around people, just talking, laughing and having a good time. She also enjoyed traveling and horses along with many other interests.
Marian graduated from Flathead County High School in 1961 and then went to work for the local telephone company for the next 20 years until retirement in 1981. She then, in 1985, started working for Flathead County as a switchboard operator until her illness in 1994.
Marian had a beautiful warm heart. She brought out the best in the people around her. Illness took her from us too soon and she will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
Marian was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her husband Dan; one daughter, Kim and Bob Sutton and their children, R.C., Krystal and Madeline; one son, Rob and Debbie Miller; and five stepchildren, Danette, Scott, Joel, Paul, and Eric, all of Kalispell. She is also survived by her mother, Ruth, of Bigfork; one brother, Robbin Nordtome of Kalispell; and one sister, Linda Desch of Wolf Point. Marian has a large extended family and and is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and stepgrandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service for Marian will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Central Bible Church gymnasium, 902 First Ave. E. Kalispell, with Pastor Ron Youde officiating. A private family service will be held at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.

Lois Marie Kieser, 89
After a long battle with Alzheimer's, Lois Marie Kieser, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Colonial Manor in Whitefish.
She was born Nov. 25, 1914, in Woodward, Okla., to Alden and Mary Dunn. In the 1920s, that family escaped its rural hardships by moving to Riverside, California: in Riverside, Glendale, Apple Valley, Lake Havasu, and Bishop, until his death in 1996, when she moved to Montana to be with her younger son, Bob, and his wife, Jackie.
With her warmth and generosity, Lois was much loved by friends and family, to whom she devoted most of her life. But long after her two sons were grown, she did go to work for Home Savings and Loan, until her retirement as assistant manager of the Victorville office.
In addition to her husband, Lois was preceded in death by her parents and all four of her siblings.
She is survived by her son, Bob, and his wife, Jackie, of Kalispell; and by her son, Bill, and special friend, Betty McCrae of Sherman Oaks, California, so that her ashes can be merged with those of her beloved husband of 65 years.

Louise Evenson, 65
Louise Evenson, 65, passed away on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at her home of natural causes.
Louise Elaine was born Oct. 16, 1938, to Lester and Dolly Swisher. She was the oldest of four children born to the Swishers. Louise was raised both in Missoula and Whitefish.
She married Dale Evenson in February 1957. Together they raised four children. Lou was an exceptional and resourceful homemaker. Her talents included needlework, sewing and making all of her children’s clothes.
Louise and Dale eventually built a lovely log home outside Missoula. The couple later divorced.
Later, the children were of an age where Louise could use her talents on the golf course once again. She was a very good golfer, and had a love of the game. She golfed at the University of Montana course and later at Larchmont. Her failing health had kept her off the course the last few years, but her love of the game never wavered.
In the last few years, Louise pursued a career editing for court reporters. She enjoyed the work, and always looked forward to more jobs.
The love of her children and grandchildren was never ending. She rarely missed an event they were in.
Louise was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie, in 1985, and by her parents.
She is survived by her children, Lynn and Jim Rosenberg of Harlowton, Renee Evenson of Helena, and Ty and Linda Evenson of Missoula; her grandchildren, Casey, Kayla and Kyle Rosenberg, Jessica and Tim Evenson, Mark Skinner, and Cathy and Adam McElderry and their son, Isaiah. She is also survived by her brother, Tom and Esther Swisher of Alaska; brother, Mike and Ann Swisher of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sister, Peggy and Tom Cain of Missoula; nieces, Anna and Michelle Swisher; and nephew, Rory Cain.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Garden City Funeral Home in Missoula.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Frederick "Fred" James Huso, 78
Frederick "Fred" James Huso, 78, passed away on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at his home in Columbia Falls.
He was born on Dec. 25, 1924, in Lake Mills, New York City, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Jennifer of Monmouth, Ore., David of Portland, and Joshua of Kalispell; sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces of various cities.
A graveside committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Glacier Memorial Gardens with Pastor Ron Youde officiating. Memorial services will continue at 3 p.m. at Central Bible Church with a reception to follow in the gym. Visitation will be at Johnson Mortuary today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.
