Staci Renee Keith, age 21, of 315 Old Barrett Road, Ennice, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at her home. She is survived by her parents, Brian and Darlene Jones Keith of the home; two sisters, Marissa and Morgen Keith of the home; paternal grandparents, George and Shirley Keith of Ennice; and maternal grandmother, Shirley Jones of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30th, at the Savannah United Methodist Church in the Edmonds Community. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church.

LAMBERT
Mrs. Laura Ellen Osborne Lambert age 84 of West Jefferson, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Ashe Memorial Hospital Segraves Care Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Jefferson United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Keith Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The Lambert family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00pm Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Lambert was born in Grayson County, VA on July 30, 1920, to the late Leonard Osborne and the late Bertie Osborne. She worked in assembly for Sprague Electric in Lansing. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Foster Lambert. Mrs. Lambert is survived by two sons, David Lambert and wife, Lynn, of Laurel Springs, and Jerry Lambert of Marion IN; and one daughter, Linda Barr and husband, Wilson, of West Jefferson. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to: Ashe Senior Center, PO Box 9, West Jefferson, NC 28694, Jefferson United Methodist Women, PO Box 236 Jefferson, NC 28640 or to Ashe Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, 200 Hospital Ave., Jefferson, NC 28640.

NICHOLAS
Eugene Nicholas, age 63, of 50 Nicholas Lane, Glade Valley, NC, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Marie Crouse Nicholas. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sherlee and Robert Benge of Mt. Airy, NC; a step-daughter, Sussie Cook and husband Jack of West Virginia; a step-son, Wayne Loggins and wife Martha of Piney Creek; a sister, Carolyn Coppin of Elgin, Oregon; three brothers, Avery Nicholas of Erie, Pa., and Vervie and Rolane Nicholas of West Virginia; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mtn. View Baptist Church cemetery at Glade Valley. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

PERRY
Thomas Lester “Buddy” Perry, age 59, of 464 Osborne Road, Sparta, died Sunday morning, June 26, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Taylor Perry of the home; a daughter, Carol Rodriguez of Texas; four sons, James Lee Perry of Sparta, Ricky Lynn Perry of Whiteville, NC, and Junior Perry and Jerry Perry of Sparta; six grandchildren; three sisters, Gertha Alley, Francis Evans and Bertha McMillan, all of Sparta; and three brothers, James Franklin Perry, Ambrose Perry, and Dean Perry, all of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Whitehead-Joines cemetery at Whitehead. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests any memorial contributions be made to the funeral home to help on funeral expenses.

STURGILL
Mrs. Ella Mae Hodge Sturgill, age 72, of 286 Grandview Drive in Sparta, died Friday morning, June 24, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Billy C. Sturgill. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Gary Sturgill, Christine and Larry Saltz, all of Sparta; a granddaughter and spouse, Crystal Lynn and Danny Halsey of Sparta; a grandson, Brandon David Saltz of Sparta; a great-grandson, Ethan Daniel Halsey of Sparta; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Barbara Hodge and Raymond and Jane Hodge, all of Sparta; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Carlie Edwards, Bobbie and Porter Sprinkle and Linda and R.J. Lyall, all of Sparta; special caregivers, Virginia Hall, Lisa Edwards and Barbara Reed; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Carolyn and Gary Sturgill at 2535 Grandview Drive, in Sparta.

LANE
Mrs. Rose Bowers Lane, age 77, of 18 Fern Mountain Lane, Laurel Springs, died Wednesday evening, June 22, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Robert Junior Lane and the daughter of the late Garther and Mattie Tilley Bowers. She was also preceded in death by brothers Clifton, Alfred and Ivan Bowers. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Frank Busic of Sparta; two granddaughters, Holly and Emily Busic of Sparta; a sister, Eva Bowers Elledge of Wilkesboro; a brother, Jesse Breece Bowers and wife Lotte of Fayettville, NC; three half-brothers, Jim, Buster and Mike Bowers of North Wilkesboro; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. Burial will follow in the Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Sandra and Frank Busic at 201 Deer Haven Road in Sparta. RIVER
Mrs. Frances Billie Crouse River, age 72, of 2609 Scenic Valley Road, Glade Valley, NC, died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. She was the widow of Wayne C. River. She is survived by a sister, Faye Eller of Aberdeen, Maryland. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Woodruff cemetery near Roaring Gap. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. STURGILL
Mr. Wiley T. Sturgill, age 90, of 3024 US Hwy 21N, Sparta, died Thursday evening, June 16, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He is survived by his wife, Lessie Rae Bare Sturgill of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Karon Sturgill of Walnut Cove, NC; two grandsons, Brad Sturgill of Raleigh and Casey Sturgill of Chapel Hill; a brother, Ronald Sturgill of State Road; and a sister Elsie Surface of Princeton, West Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18th, at the New Haven Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in the Bare family cemetery in the Peak Creek Community at Laurel Springs. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening (this evening) at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.

EDWARDS
Mr. Dewey George Edwards, age 90, of 1720 Cornelia Drive, Lexington, NC, died Monday evening, June 13, 2005, at the Lexington Memorial Hospital in Lexington, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Coulson Edwards; a granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters. He is survived by four daughters, Patsy Wright and husband Charles of Salisbury, NC, Ruby Tolbert and husband Glenn of Rural Hall, NC, Judy Pardue and husband Roger of Lexington, and Linda Edwards and friend David Stanley of Cooleemee, NC; two sons, Clinton Edwards and wife, Mary Lou of Linwood, NC, and David Edwards and wife Linda of Welcome, NC; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 17th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Glade Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of Alma Ruth Carpenter at 8485 Glade Valley Road in Ennice.

McGRADY
Mrs. Lessie Mae Hart McGrady, age 70, of 4077 Chestnut Grove Church Road, Sparta, died Sunday morning, June 12, 2005, at the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. She was the widow of Dale McGrady. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Robbie Gillespie of King; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ricky McGrady of the home, Jerry and Jean McGrady of Sparta, and Randy and Donna McGrady of Sparta; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Cybill Caudill of Laurel Springs, and Maxine Pickett of Elkin; three brothers, Allen, Paul and June Hart, all of Laurel Springs; two sisters-in-law, Dorcas Wagoner of Sparta, and Hilda Brookshire of Moravian Falls, NC; special friend, Linda Wagoner of Thurmond; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 14th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Alleghany, P.O. Box 1287, Sparta, NC 28675.

EDWARDS
Mr. Robert Allen “Bobby” Edwards, age 44, of 1983 Chestnut Grove Church Road, Sparta, died Friday evening, June 10, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Shearin Edwards. He is survived by a son, Allen Edwards of Sparta; his father and step-mother, Eldon and Laurene Edwards of Sparta; and two sisters, Lisa Carroll of Bluffton, SC and Cathy Barnwell of Clemmons, NC; Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 13th at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home, and at other times, at the home of Eldon and Laurene Edwards, 1983 Chestnut Grove Church Road in Sparta.

McCOIN
Hassell Lee McCoin, age 89, of 179 Combs St, Sparta, died Friday morning, June 10, 2005, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. He is survived by a sister, Ruby M. Billings of Sparta; a brother, Dr. John M. McCoin of Lawrence, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 13th at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Nichols Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Nichols Family Cemetery, c/o Jack Nichols, 2289 Grandview Dr, Sparta, NC 28675.

COX
Alfred Bane Cox, age 69, of Laurel Springs, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at his home. He was the son of the late James and Zola Woodie Cox. He was preceded in death by brothers, Byron, Wilford, Hubert and Paul Cox. He was a member of Laurel Fork Presbyterian Church. Mr. Cox was retired from Carolina Mirror in North Wilkesboro. He is survived by a sister, Elaine Cox Caudill of Jefferson; a brother, Woody Cox of Redonda Beach, California; two nephews, Larry Cox and wife Lynn of North Wilkesboro and Jim Cox of Redonda Beach, California; and a niece Christine Drawdy and husband Charles of Tryon, NC. Graveside serrvice will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 12th, at Meadow Fork Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ashe County, NC Hwy. 88, E. Jefferson, NC 28640, Meadow Fork Primitive Baptist cemetery Fund, c/o Shirley Smith, 371 Early Rd., Ennice, NC 28623, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home of Sparta is serving the Cox family.

STEELE
Mr. Robert Edward Steele passed on from this life to be with his Lord on April 10, 2006. He died following heart complications. He was born in Conneaut, Ohio, in February, the second day in the year 1922. He attended school there, being involved in athletics program, and being selected to attend All Boys State. He served his country during WWII in Europe in the 101st Airborne in the United States Army. He resided in Conneaut until 1955, when he moved his wife and four children to St. Petersburg, Florida. He worked in the building supply business as the town began its boom in growth. He then took a position with Peter Fuller in Naples, Florida, at Fuller Industries, where he eventually was promoted to manager. He then became partners in his own lumber and building supply business, established in Industrial Park in 1970. While residing in Naples he was president of the quarterback club, and an active member of the schools Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization, giving young people an opportunity to meet famous athletes of the day and hear their testimonies. He also did a term as president of the city’s Optimist club. He was voted Father of the Year in 1967. He and his wife retired to Sparta, North Carolina, in 1976. His loving wife passed on in February of 1986 from complications of lupus. He resided for a short while in Panama City, Florida, before returning to North Carolina, in the Wilkes area, where he resided at his death. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Conway Steele; his eldest son CPL. Robert Hugh Steele; three brothers, Thomas, Otto and Leo Steele; two sisters, Evelyn Baker and Charlotte Bishop; Robert Steele, a nephew; and many friends and relatives. He is survived by his sons, Eric Steele, Stephen Steele and his wife Linda; his daughter Rebecca McMillian and her husband Daniel; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and six nephews, Robert, Thomas, and Philip Bishop, Mike and Kevin Conway and Harry Steele. We all carry our own special memories of him in our hearts. He will have a graveside service held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Sparta Cemetery. The family requests donations may be made to the Lupus foundation, Hospice or Disabled American Veteran’s Association, or each one’s personal favorite charity. Bob requested His love to be expressed to all he has known, and that he will anxiously await the reunion of all. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home of Sparta is serving the Steele family.

VELEZ
Mrs. Barbara June Velez, age 77, of 202 East Whitehead Street, Sparta, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. She was the widow of Harry Velez. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Lucas of Sparta; two sons, Steve Keeley of San Diego, California, and Michael Velez, Alexanderia, VA; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 11th, at the Sparta United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home of Sparta is serving the Velez family.
