Ted Bridges
LAWNDALE - Mr. Ted Roger Bridges, 59, of 104 Rock Lane, died Friday, August 25, 2000, at VA Hospital in Salisbury.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Bertie Hamrick Bridges of Kings Mountain and the late Zaye Morrison Bridges. He retired from Hoechst Celanese Corp. in 1990 and was a member of Carpenter's Grove Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. He served in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Bridges and a sister, Beverly Bridges.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Sain Bridges of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly B. and Shelby Fleming of Lawndale; two brothers, Bobby Bridges of Blacksburg, S.C. and Max Bridges of Grover; and three sisters, Betty Goodson of Kings Mountain, Libby Jones of Charlotte and Wanda Carpenter of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Carpenter's Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Archie Chapman and Jerry Welsh officiating.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the VA Hospital Salisbury, volunteer services, 1601 Brenner Ave., Salisbury, N.C. 28144.

William Holland
FOREST CITY - Mr. William David Holland, 47, of 406 Buck Collins Road, died Friday, August 25, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Neil Murray officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Eunice James
GASTONIA - Mrs. Eunice Cook James, 86, of 4414 Wilkinson Blvd., died Friday, August 25, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Lancaster, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Emma Hinson Cook. She was retired from Arlington Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, England James; two daughters, Kay Craig and Sharon Allen; four brothers, Norman Cook, Harrison Cook, Carrison Cook and Andrew Cook; and three sisters, Cadie Chapman, Alice Cape and Lula Howard.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Jeanette James of Bessemer City, the Rev. Roy D. and Teresa James of Gastonia and David Lee and Renee James; two daughters and a son-in-law, Helen J. and J.D. White of Gastonia and Marie J. Nanney of Forest City; a sister, Lucy Dickson of Chattum, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great- grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Founders Chapel, McLean Funeral Directors, with the Revs. Robert Mote and Rufus Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Billy James, Steven James, Mark James and Michael James.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Helen and J.D. White, 208 S. Vance St., Gastonia.

Flora Callahan
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Flora Marks Callahan, 97, formerly of Big Springs Avenue, died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at Cleveland Pines in Shelby.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Preston Lynhardt and Mary Bean Marks. She worked for many years at the Florence Plant of Cone Mills Corporation and was a retired dietary aid with Presbyterian Hospital. She was a member of Florence Baptist Church where she was the oldest living member and worked in the beginner department and was active in the church WMU and her Sunday school class. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Henry R. and Loretta Matheny Callahan of Hickory; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Lee and Cromer Curtis of Forest City and Patsy Callahan Botts of Shelby; a brother, Joseph L. Marks of Dunnellon, Fla.; a sister, Mary Emma Culver of Daytona Beach; four grandchildren, Eddie Botts, David Botts and Patricia Botts, all of Shelby and Eric Callahan of Hickory; and six great-grandchildren, Daniel Botts, Tara Botts, Derick Callahan, Lacy Callahan, Anna Botts and Michael Botts.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Florence Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.
Burial will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Florence Baptist Church Building Fund, 201 S. Broadway St., Forest City, N.C. 28043.

Bryte Wood
LINCOLNTON - Mrs. Bryte Wehunt Wood, 93, of 931 N. Aspin St., died Friday, August 25, 2000, at Cardinal Health Care in Lincolnton.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hulls Grove Baptist Church, Vale, with the Rev. Mark Redding officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 7:30 at Carpenter's Funeral Home.

Bobby Morrison
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Bobby Gene Morrison, 70, died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at University Hospital.
Born January 30, 1930 in Gaston County, he was the son of the late Ed and Mae Morrison. He was employed as an independent painting contractor. He was an Army veteran serving 21 years as a Staff Sergeant and 11 years with the National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Mason Morrison of Charlotte; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Anthony Morrison, the Rev. Michael and Shelly Morrison, Ronald and Betty Morrison and Lloyd and Gail Morrison; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherry Morrison and Debbie and Mike Day; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Obie and Bea Morrison and Larry Morrison; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Prince and Margaret and Wade Spencer; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Michael Caskey and Michael Morrison officiating.
Heritage Funeral Home of Indian Trail is in charge of arrangements.

"Skinny" McClain
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. George Wessley "Skinny" McClain, 80, of 510 S. Cherokee St., died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Daniel and Elva Stokes. He was retired from Cooper's Furniture Store and served as a custodian at McGill Clinic. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II and was a member of New Life Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Stokes and V.J. Stokes.
He is survived by his wife, Lue McClain of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gale and Norris Hunter and Alice and Issac Surratt, all of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Weldon Hunter, Danielle Hunter and Julius Surratt, all of Kings Mountain; and a great-grandson, Cameron Hunter of Grover.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at New Life Christian Church with the Rev. H.L. Rhedrick officiating.
The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Mamie Houser
MORGANTON - Ms. Mamie P. Houser, 96, died Friday, August 25, 2000, at Britthaven in Morganton.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Dockery's Home of Funerals, Inc.

Joshua White
SHELBY - Joshua O'Brien White, infant son of Paul Steven and Connie Gettys White, of 2002 W. Stagecoach Trail, died Friday, August 25, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He is preceded in death by a grandparent, A.V. White Sr.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Cody Gerritt White of Shelby; a grandparent, Dorothy White of Shelby; grandparents, Charles and Judy Gettys of Polkville; two great-grandparents, Fannie Bumgardner and Pearl Gettys, both of Polkville; three uncles, Brian Gettys of Polkville, A.V. White Jr. of Casar, and Jack White of Fallston; and two aunts, Shirley Hughes of Shelby and Patsy Steffey of Lattimore.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Polkville Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Alton Martin officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church and other times at the home.

Terry McMurry
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Terry Luann Cooke Perry McMurry, 44, of 140 Shelby Drive, died Monday, August 28, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Panama City, Fla., she was the daughter of Walter and Betty Benfield Cooke of Lawndale. She was a former employee of Cleveland-CaroKnits in Lawndale and was a member of Double Shoals Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Ivey Cooke; her grandfather, Ivey Cooke; and her grandparents, Lula J. and Fonzo Benfield. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Gerald Randall "Randy" McMurry of Lawndale; a daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Bryant Hinson of Fallston; two sons and her son's fiancee, Brandon McMurry and Amy Wright and Elliott McMurry, all of Lawndale; a brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Kay Cooke of Lawndale; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Robert Blanton of Shelby and Jina and Billy Holland of Lawndale; her grandmother, Lurene Cooke McNeilly; a granddaughter, Aubrey Hinson; and a group of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Double Shoals Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Davis officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Palm Tree United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Walter and Betty Cooke, 311 Ward St., Lawndale. Betty Hickmon
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ms. Betty Elaine Hickmon, 54, of 1708 M. St. N.E., formerly of Grover, died Saturday, August 26, 2000, at Washington Hospital Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by J.W. Gill & Sons Funeral Home.

Guy Campfield
MOORESBORO - Mr. Guy Campfield, 77, of 1516 Lake Houser Road, died Monday, August 28, 2000, at his home. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Leland B. and Hettie Painter Campfield. He was a Army veteran of World War II and a retired supervisor from the Haynes Plant of Cone Mills. He was a member of Campfield Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Luckadoo Campfield of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Vickie Campfield of Forest City and Eddie and Sissy Campfield of Ellenboro; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rita Campfield of Greenwood, S.C., and Janet and Mike Houser of Mooresboro; a brother, Glenn Campfield of Seaford, Del.; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Campfield Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. Joey Cantrell, Chris Ruppe and Ronnie Cheek officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Warren Wiley
MOORESBORO - Mr. Warren W. Wiley, 79, of 718 Winn Road, died Saturday, August 26, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Eagle Rock, Va., he was the son of the late Robert and Georgia Wiley. He was retired from Midstate Contractors as a Superintendent and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was in the Army and served in World War II in the 613th Engineer Light Equipment Company of the 1135th Engineer Combat Brigade. He was in the invasion of Normandy and received a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medals and Jubilee of Liberty Medal. He is survived by his wife, Annie Poston Wiley of the home; a stepdaughter and her husband, Glenda and Jerry McKinney of Mooresboro; a granddaughter and her husband, Pam and Ansel Harmon of Mooresboro; a grandson and his wife, Scott and Debra McKinney of Mooresboro; two great-grandsons, Jerry Harmon and Jerry McKinney, both of Mooresboro; a brother, Ray Wiley of Roanoke, Va.; and a sister, Christine Maske of Roanoke. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with the Revs. David Irish and Buddy Morehead officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home. John Poston Jr.
WEAVERVILLE - Mr. John Fibra Poston Jr., 72, of 62 Kennedy Road Annex, died Monday, August 28, 2000.
Born March 14, 1928 in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late John F. Poston Sr. and Sarah Jane Self Poston. He was a resident of Gaston and Cleveland County before moving to Weaverville in 1994. He was a retired farmer and was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, Shelby.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Mackey Poston; a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Bill Hooker of Cherryville; a stepdaughter, Elaine Hensely-Robinson of Weaverville; two granddaughters, Sarah Ellen Hooker and Elizabeth Anne Hooker; stepgranddaughter, Leisa Kimbrough of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a stepgreat grandson, Noah Kimbrough of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillie and T.G. Lackey of Cherryville and Shirley and Bill McMurray of Kings Mountain; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Ruth Poston of Crouse and Larry and Sarah Poston of Canton; and several nieces and nephews, including Allen Hord of Katy, Texas and Teresa Hord of Houston, Texas.
The funeral will be today at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. Tony Dowdy officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.
A local funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church, Shelby, with the Revs. Chad Harvey and Tony Dowdy officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dewain Mackey, Marvin Mackey, Ronnie Mackey, Austin Cole, Paul Clauhs, Duane McMurray, Billy McMurray, Randy Lackey, Joel Poston and Ted Poston.
Memorials may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, c/o Mills Cline, 891 Zion Church Road, Shelby, N.C. 28150.
The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.

Maxine Hart
HENDERSONVILLE - Mrs. Maxine Middleton Hart, 84, of Hendersonville, died Tuesday, August 22, 2000, in Stirling, Australia.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Round Hill Baptist Church, Union Mills, with the Revs. Michael Johnson and Charles Nanney officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Crowe Funeral Home.

Dr. Paul Sarazen
SHELBY - Dr. Paul Mark Sarazen Jr., of 214 Fairway Drive, died Tuesday, August 29, 2000, at his home.
A native of Westchester County, New York, he was the son of the late Paul Mark and Marian Belish Sarazen. He was a graduate of Duke University and Duke University School of Medicine. He served in the Navy during World War II and in the U.S. Medical Corp of the Air Force in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. He practiced Pediatric Medicine in Shelby beginning in 1955 when he co-founded the Shelby Children's Clinic with Dr. Richard Bowles. He was the first board certified pediatrician in Shelby. In addition to pediatric practice, he founded the Professional Child Care Center in Charlotte in the early 1960's and served as its President until it merged with a larger child care entity. He co-founded Temp Vent Corporation in the 1970's and served as its chairman until it was acquired by CertainTeed Company in 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Patton Sarazen; four children, Paul Sarazen III of Lattimore, Jo Dolly Sarazen Martin of Atlanta, Laura Sarazen of Key West, Fla. and Raleigh Sarazen of Birmingham, Ala.; and four grandchildren, Paul Sarazen IV, Elizabeth Sarazen, Sarah Jo Martin and Raleigh Sarazen Jr.
A private graveside service will be Thursday.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7:30 to 9 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
