Marian Breakefield
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Marian Knox Breakefield, 78, of White Oak Manor, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000.
A native of Clover, S.C., she was the daughter of the late John Jackson and Viola McCarter Knox. She was retired from the Gaston Gazette where she was an accounting clerk. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kings Mountain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Breakefield; and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Carpenter.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret Knox Aderholdt of Kings Mountain; a brother, Jacob R. Knox of Catawba, S.C.; and two granddaughters, Kimberly Carpenter Draughn of Hiddenite and Dawn Carpenter Richardson of Denver, Colo.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Woodside Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Newsome officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery and at other times at 203 S. Gaston St., Kings Mountain.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1188, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.
Cleveland Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Byrd
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Betty Queen Byrd, 65, of 206 Southard St., died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Albert and Belle Brittain Queen. She was a retired switchboard operator at Saks Fifth Avenue of Atlanta and a member of Lawndale United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Piedmont High School.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Harold Queen.
She is survived by a stepson, Arthur Martin Byrd III of Blandon, Pa.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lathan and Sarah Queen and Jerry and Wanda Queen, all of Lawndale; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Barbara and Herman Rodden of Charlotte, Gail and Deward Canipe of Shelby and Martha and Steve Edwards of Concord and Debbie Queen of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Nancy Queen of Polkville; a stepgrandchild, Jennifer Byrd; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ben Davis and David Reep officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Belear York
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Belear Willis York, 83, of Hudlow Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Stokes and Ila Sparks Willis. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was retired from Elmore Corp., Spindale.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell York.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda York Stewart of Shelby and Jerrie Ann Fite of Forest City; a brother, Marvin Willis of Gastonia; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 11 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Base officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Mount Vernon Family Life Building.

Beatrice Freeman
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Beatrice Carpenter Freeman, 92, of Forest City, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Bass officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the Padgett & King Mortuary.

Margaret Dilling
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Margaret Sehneider Dilling, 51, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 8 at the home of John and Carolyn Dilling, 202 Victoria Circle, Kings Mountain.

Harley Greene Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Harley Ethan Greene Sr., 82, of 766 Broad St., died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Sidney Miller and Annie Huffstetler Greene. He retired as a sales representative for Shelby Supply Co. after 35 years. He was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 202. He served in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Huss Greene of the home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, David and Lynn Greene of Charlotte, Eric and Harriette Greene of Shelby, Gary and Lynne Greene of Raleigh and Harley Greene Jr. of Miami; a brother, Ralph Greene of Shelby; a sister, Wanda Greene of Cherryville; and eight grandchildren, Holly Greene, Jonathan Greene, Derek Greene, Hillary Greene, Colby Greene, Miriam Greene, Heather Monteith and Lindsey Monteith.
A graveside service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Delores Queen officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Shirley Ann Strantz Philbeck, 63, formerly of Caroleen, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center.
A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. David Heath officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen.

Lois Roberts
LINCOLNTON - Mrs. Lois Selma Owens Roberts, 90, of 816 South Aspen St., died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Lincoln Medical Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Greene Funeral Service Westside Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Millwood officiating.
Burial will follow at Wallace Grove Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Bertha Gilreath
SHELBY - Mrs. Bertha Willis Gilreath, 91, of 1101 N. Morgan St., died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Century Health Care.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Joe F. and Fannie Pritchard Willis. She retired as a spinner from Esther Mill Co. after 39 years. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Belwood.
She is survived by a son, William B. Gilreath of Shelby; a daughter, Norma Jean Lynch of Shelby; a sister, Faye Wilson of Shelby; two brothers, Boyd Willis and Fred Willis, both of Shelby; five grandchildren, Vickie Harrison of Little River, S.C., Steve Gilreath of Florence, S.C., Jake "Butch" Lynch of Chicago, Mike Lynch of Shelby and Scott Gilreath of Florence; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Belwood, with the Rev. Richard Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at 1112 Hendrick Lake Road.

Lorraine Akers
SHELBY - Mrs. Lorraine Woolwine Akers, 74, of 715 Dellinger Road, Apt. 201, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Montgomery County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Jacob Abraham Woolwine and Lizzie Black Linkus. She was a lunchroom cook and server for Cleveland County and Shelby City school systems. She was a member of Lawndale United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cummings Akers.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Phillip Jay Akers of Fallston, Charles Cummings Akers Jr. of Columbia, Md., and Samuel T. and Sherry Akers of Savannah, Ga.; a daughter, Kaye A. Adams of Shelby; two brothers, Ted Woolwine and Lewis Woolwine, both of Christiansburg, Va.; and a granddaughter, Insley Dawn Adams of Shelby.
A private graveside service will be Saturday at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will be at the home, 715 Dellinger Road.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

Linda Holland
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Linda Carol Butler Holland, 48, of 112 Floyd St., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home with the Revs. Andrew Gowan and Terry Padgett officiating.
Burial will follow at Walls Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

William Connor
FOREST CITY - Mr. William David Connor, 71, of 14 Pine St., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at his home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church with the Rev. Boyce Gregory and Kevin Rohm officiating.
Burial will follow at Alexander Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 at the Padgett & King Mortuary.

Benjamin Eaker Jr.
SHELBY - Benjamin Scott Eaker Jr., infant son of Benjamin Scott Eaker and Megan Nicole Daves, of 408 Poplar Springs Church Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Linda and Robert Wilkins of Shelby; his maternal great-grandparents, Phyllis and Barry Beaver of Shelby and Sieglinda Skimmiehorn of Fayetteville; his paternal grandparents, Wanda and Scott Eaker of Shelby; and his paternal great-grandparents, Don and Joe Eaker and the Rev. David and Grace Lucas, all of Shelby.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. David Lucas and Dr. James Richardson officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara McDonald
SHELBY - Mrs. Barbara Ann Bergman McDonald, 65, of 1011 Fairfax Circle, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born Jan. 24, 1935, in Clay Center, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Mildred Law Bergman. She retired in 1992 after teaching first and second grades at Unified School District of Los Angeles. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Marion R. McDonald; an aunt and uncle, Carl and Lorrain Bergman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a cousin, John Bergsten of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers-in-law and spouse, Ford and Randy McDonald and Charlie McDonald, all of Shelby; two nieces, Ashley McDonald and Emma McDonald, both of Shelby; a nephew, Crisp McDonald of Shelby; and a number of special cousins.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Dr. Dolores Queen officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC 28152.

Suzy Smith
SHELBY - Miss Suzy Smith, of 707 N. Lafayette St., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Orville Blalock
ALBEMARLE - Mr. Orville Bascum "Duck" Blalock, 83, of 39257 Duck Road, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at VA Medical Center in Fayetteville.
A native of Stanly County, he was born May, 10, 1917, the son of the late Walter Black and Esther Mae Kirk Blalock. He was a retired employee of Wiscassett Mill Co. and member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was a former member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Maxine Aldridge Blalock; one brother, the Rev. Frank Blalock; and one sister, Lillie Mae Eudy.
He is survived by two brothers, Thomas Blalock of Portsmouth, Va., and Calvin Blalock of Shelby; and a sister, Mary B. Lilly of Norwood.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Union Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. R. Curran Welch, Martha B. Welch and David Alexander officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery with full military rites by Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the Stanly Funeral Home in Albemarle.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
