BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Luther Brocknell "Cadillac" Richards Sr., 55, of 1480 Blacksburg Highway, Lot No. 9, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at the home of his daughter.
The funeral will be Monday at 5 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Ervin and Vernon Craig officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today and Sunday at the home of a daughter, Loretta Varnadore, 102 W. Pine St., Blacksburg.
White Columns Funeral Service, Blacksburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Gail Bell
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Gail Bell, 57, of 728 Oak Grove Road, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Century Care Center, Cherryville.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Virginia Wright Bell. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by four brothers and sisters-in-law, Horace and Rosalee Bell, Eugene and Opal Bell, Giles and Della Bell, all of Kings Mountain, and Arnold and Ruth Bell of Lenoir; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Arnold Philbeck of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Caulder officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1022 Oak Grove Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.
Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Horace Humphries
MOORESBORO - Mr. Horace Edward Humphries, 70, of 2374 Gaffney Road, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Glen and Beulah Humphries Humphries. He was a retired textile worker and was a Baptist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Pierce Humphries.
He is survived by two daughters, Debora Humphries and Cathy Humphries, both of Mooresboro; four sisters, Prella Arrowood and Elma Harris, both of Mooresboro, Margaret Batchelor of Gaffney, S.C., and Irene Harmon of Cliffside; and three brothers, Boyce Humphries and Gene Humphries, both of Gaffney, S.C., and Mickey Humphries of Mooresboro.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Durham officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Johnnie Womack, Howard Ramsey, Robert Jordan, Kenneth Hamrick, Keith Bailey, Jeff Humphries, Bobby Lail and Boyd Putnam.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home, 2374 Gaffney Road, Mooresboro.

Frank Roberts Jr.
EARL - Mr. Frank Roberts Jr., 60, of 2614 Blacksburg Road, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Frank Sr. and Margaret Louise Dover Roberts. He was former restaurant manager at Applehouse Cafeteria and was a self-employed tax preparer. He was a member of New Life Church, Shelby.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Weatherford Roberts of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Calvin Wright of Shelby, Dayna and Joey Philbeck and Dawn and Mike Gilliam, all of Earl; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Michelle Roberts of Lawndale; three granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Michelle and Billy Bryant of Lawndale, Heather Wright of Shelby and Brittany Roberts of Lawndale; two grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Ashley and Haley Lewis of Earl and Jamie Gilliam of Earl; stepgrandchildren, Heather and Patrick Philbeck of Rutherfordton; three great-grandchildren, Bailee Bryant, Wade Bryant and Melia Bryant, all of Lawndale; three brothers, Bobby Roberts of Cherryville, Hubert Lee Roberts and Roger Roberts, both of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. David Gordon officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services and at other times at the home of a daughter, Kay Wright, 122 Delmar Road, Shelby.

Zora Falls
FALLSTON - Mrs. Zora Sarah Boggs Falls, 87, of 772 E. Stagecoach Trail, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at her home.
Born March 29, 1913 in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Max Sr. and Annie Mae Lutz Boggs. She was a retired grammar school teacher, teaching in Belwood, Fallston, Greensboro and Slater-Marietta, S.C. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ola Williams and Selma Sigmon.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Sylvester Falls of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Claude T. Falls and Dr. Neveen Habashi-Falls of Lincolnton; three brothers, Kenneth Boggs, Norris Boggs and Max Boggs Jr., all of Fallston; two sisters, Ruth Deviney of Casar and Maxine Grayson of Kings Mountain; and four grandchildren, Emily Falls, Leila Falls, Alexandra Falls and Edward Falls.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with the Revs. Eddie Ingram and Erman Bradley officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

John Brittain
HICKORY GROVE, S.C. - Mr. John Wilbur Brittain, 84, of 1588 Martin Road, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Cain and Sally Costner Brittain. He was a retired farmer and a member of Broad River Baptist Church, Smyrna.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Pearl Mellon Brittain.
He is survived by a son, Michael Brittain of the home; two daughters, Sarah Ann Tippin of Hickory Grove, S.C., and Billie Renee McSwain of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Marie Sue McSwain of Lincolnton and Annie Mae Mellon of Cherryville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Broad River Baptist Church, Smyrna.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary, Blacksburg, and at other times at the home, 1588 Martin Road, Hickory Grove.

Irene Padgett
SHELBY - Mrs. Irene Hamrick Padgett, 73, of 443 Poplar Springs Church Road, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Bezola and Malena Bue Hamrick Hamrick. She was a cloth inspector at Dover Textiles, where she had worked since 1944. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Hamrick McSwain.
She is survived by her husband, Howard H. Padgett Sr. of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris Padgett and Mike Smalley of Shelby; a son and daughter-in-law, Howard H. Jr. and Brenda Padgett of Shelby; a granddaughter and her husband, Amada and Paul Mowery III of Shelby; a grandson and his wife, Gary and Angela Padgett of Shelby; a great-grandson, Trevor Paul Mowery of Shelby; a great-granddaughter, Brianna Elaine Mowery of Shelby; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Everette and Lura Hamrick and David and Johnnie Hamrick, all of Shelby; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mildred and L.D. Reynolds, Lena and Howard McSwain, Frances Barber and Thelma Hoyle, all of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Richardson and the Rev. Clyde Buckner officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services and at other times at the home, 443 Poplar Springs Church Road.

Albert Parks Jr.
LAWNDALE - Mr. Albert Parks Jr., 62, of 119 Schenck Farm Road, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

Thelma Irvin
BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. - Mrs. Thelma Powers Irvin, 88, of Bennettsville, S.C., died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000.
She was the daughter of the late John Luther Sr. and Nola Elizabeth Barnhardt Powers. She attended Converse College and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina with an A.B. degree in education and a minor in French. She pursued her studies at the "Misses Semple" School in New York, where she specialized in interior decorating. She was a homemaker and an American Red Cross volunteer. She served as vice president of the Marlboro County Cancer Society and was active in the March of Dimes. She served on many United Way funds committees and had been a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a charter member of the Shelby Junior Woman's Club and the Shelby Junior Charity League. In the Bennettsville Garden Club, she was the only president to serve three terms. She was a member of the S.C. Rose Society and had served as district director of the Eastern Sandhills Garden Clubs of S.C. She served as chairman of the Converse Alumnae Chapter and was a member of country clubs in Bennettsville, Shelby and Laurinburg, and was a member of the Bennettsville Cotillion Club. She was listed in "Who's Who of American Women." She was a past Sunday school teacher, pianist, circle leader and G.A. leader at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Irvin; and a son, Robert Vann Irvin.
She is survived by a son, James T. Irvin Jr. of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Edgar Powers of Cheraw, S.C.; a sister, Nola Jane Covington of Columbia, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Jim Irvin III and Kristin E. Irvin.
The funeral will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Powers Memorial Chapel of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery.
Whitner-Evans Funeral Home, Bennettsville, is in charge of arrangements and Lutz-Austell Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Mrs. Maggie Lynch, 92, formerly of Rutherford County, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Manhattan.
The funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. at Gold Hill Baptist Church in Rutherfordton. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Claywood Hopper
SHELBY - Mr. Claywood Hopper, 81, of 400 Wilson St. died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Arrangement are incomplete and will be announced by Withrow's Funeral Home.

Lina Mae Powell
MANHASSET, N.Y. - Ms. Lina Mae Powell, 83, formerly of Shelby, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Northshore Hospital in Manhasset.
The family will be at 613 E. Grover St.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

Nathaniel Tindall
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Nathaniel U. Tindall, 81, of 2601 Holloway St., Durham, and formerly of Kings Mountain, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Treyburn Rehab Nursing Center in Durham.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late A. U. and Ethel Cooper Tindall. He was retired from Southern Railroad and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and a former member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Adams Tindall.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip W. and Hazel Tindall of Summerville, S.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Gary Johnson of Shelby and Judy T. and Dan Wheeler of Durham; a brother, Thomas Tindall of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Edna Earle and Marguerite McKee, both of Kings Mountain, and Melba McWhirter of Mooresboro; three grandchildren, James "Tinker" Johnson and his wife, Jamie, of Belwood, Rebecca Berry and her husband, Jimmy, of Carterville, Ga., and Geana Wheeler of Durham; and two great-grandchildren, David Johnson and Jennifer Johnson.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Dr. Gerald Goodwin and the Rev. Ken Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 5:30 at Harris Funeral Home.

CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Howard C. Barker, 81, of 2210 Lincolnton Highway died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at his home.

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Arizona Martin Mullinax, 73, of 1646 Beech St. died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at her home.
A celebration of life service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at East Gaffney Church of God with the Revs. William Blanton and Nassar Alayi officiating. Burial will follow at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Creed Johnson
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Creed Johnson, 87, of 3210 Highway 64 East, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p. m. at Sandy Level Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Hensley and Matt Mills officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
