G.B. Miller
BOSTIC - Mr. G.B. Miller, 86, of 2809 Piney Mountain Church Road, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Cliffside, he was a son of the late Bertie and Ollie Jane McKinney Miller. He was a retired textile worker from Cone Mills and a retired horse trainer. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church in Bostic, where he was chairman of the ushers for many years. He was an Outstanding Worker with the Washburn Community Club and was twice named Outstanding Man of the Year for the Rutherford County Rural Development Council.
He as a veteran of World War II and over the years he assisted many people with horses.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Miller; two sons and daughters-in-law, Geary and Jackie Miller of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Max and Susan Miller of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Steve Rothell of Bostic; a brother, Roger Miller of Forest City; a sister, Belle Daniel of Forest City; five granddaughters and three grandsons-in-law, Kathy and Brad Van Cleave of Richton, Miss., Kandy and Scott Gibson of Davenport, Iowa, Joy and Terry Whiteside of Bostic and Rebecca Miller and Amanda Miller, both of Shelby; two grandsons, Eric Rothell of Winter Garden, Fla., and Walter Miller of Shelby; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Whiteside and Victoria Whiteside, both of Bostic.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Bostic with the Rev. Ray Hooper officiating and a eulogy by his grandson, Walter Miller. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Washburn and Dorsey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.

Lalitaben Patel
SHELBY - Mrs. Lalitaben Patel, 62, of 811 W. Sumter St., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Changa, India, she was a daughter of the late Talsibhai and Chanchalben Patel.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Chavitaben Patel.
She is survived by her husband, Shashikant Patel of the home; two sons, Katan Patel and Bhaskar Patel, both of Shelby; three daughters, Pramila Patel of Rockingham and Ramila Patel and Avantika Patel, both of Kings Mountain; a brother, Jashbhai Patel of London; two sisters, Saraiben Patel of Jersey City, N.J., and Shantaben Patel of India.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with B. Trivedi officiating.

SHELBY - Mr. Willie Junior Lott, 52, of 608 Hamrick St., died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

Lillie Thompson
FOREST CITY - Ms. Lillie Estelle Brackett Thompson, 85, of 174 Henderson Circle, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at home.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Spindale United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dan Ramsey, Joe Fulk and W. T. Medlin officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour before the service at the church.
Crowe's Funeral Home in Rutherfordton is in charge of arrangements.

Hattie Hopper
SHELBY - Ms. Hattie Helene Ross Hopper, 75, of 820 Earl Road, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Sarah Gill, 716 Park View St. in Shelby.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

Ruth McDaniel
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Ruth Hollifield McDaniel, 85, of 805 W. Gold St. died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Century Care of Gastonia.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late C.L. and Mary Neal Hollifield. She was a homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gail McDaniel.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Judy McDaniel of Norcross, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Douglas West of Stanley and Mildred and Charles R. "Mickey" Adams of Hertford; two brothers, the Rev. Kenneth Hollifield of Charlotte and Everette Hollifield of Shelby; two sisters, Ruby Harris of Gaffney, her twin, and Beatrice Mitchem of Shelby; six grandchildren, Scot Adams, David Adams, Wendy Ham, Mark West, Karen Casey and Lisa Mitchell; six great-grandchildren, Erin Mitchell, Drew Mitchell, Matthew Carey, Ryan Carey, Michael Ham and Casey Ham.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harrison Hinson officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 to 8:30 at Harris Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 37, Kings Mountain, NC or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Polly Hamrick
FALLSTON - Mrs. Pauline "Polly" Willard Hamrick, 75, of P.O. Box 4, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover.
Born in Laurel Fork, Va., she was a daughter of the late Hobart and Delta Jessup Willard. She was the co-owner of Hamrick's Men's Clothing in Lawndale and was a homemaker. She was a member of Fallston Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lenford Willard.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin "Ab" Houser Hamrick of Fallston; a son, Bill Hamrick of Fallston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Tim Spangler of Lincolnton and Jean and Mike Brooks of Holly Hill, S.C.; four sisters, Trudy Cloud of Laurel Fork, Va., Ollie Sharpe and Belva Davis, both of Hillsville, Va., and Elsie Banks of Stuart, Va.; and five grandchildren, Jason Spangler, Mandy Spangler, Shelly Brooks, Joshua Brooks and Chelsea Hamrick.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Fallston Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Norton officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Kathleen Ledbetter
SHELBY - Mrs. Kathleen Mode Ledbetter, 89, of 1011 Hidden Valley Road, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Ottie Bridges Mode. She was a retired textile worker who spent her retirement years caring for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry R. Ledbetter; a son, H. Kenneth Ledbetter; a granddaughter, Beth S. Burch; five brothers, Jack Mode, John Mode, Marion Mode, Thomas Mode and Crayton Mode; and a sister, Willie Mae Wilson.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Ruth Ledbetter of Gastonia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mabel L. and Blaine Froneberger of Shelby and Lavon L. and Charles Ramsey of Gastonia; eight grandchildren, Wanda L. Schronce of Martinez, Ga., Debbie L. Webster of Kings Mountain, Sandy L. Phillips and Susan L. Threlkeld, both of Gastonia, Keith Strickland and Kelli F. Shelor, both of Cherryville, Rhonda F. Hamrick of Shelby and Sister Elizabeth Powell of Hickory; 11 great-grandchildren, Tosha Cobb, Brittany Threlkeld, Taylor Phillips, Bobby Webster, Nicholas Schronce, Kaitlyn Hamrick, Allison Hamrick, Christopher Burch, Misty Strickland, Kristy Strickland and Renota Strickland; and one great-great grandson, Nicholas Strickland.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Rev. Stanley Webb officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Mabel and Blaine Froneberger, 1011 Hidden Valley Road.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights, Shelby, NC 28150; or Cleveland County Boys and Girls Club, 412 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC 28150.

Blaine Leonhardt
VALE - Mr. Blaine McKinley Leonhardt, 85, of 9232 N. N.C. 10, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at his home.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Laurel Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Burton officiating.
The body will be placed at the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.

SHELBY - Mr. Houston Lloyd Bagwell, 81, of 1233 W. Cabaniss Road, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Hospice of Cleveland County.

Vera Hyatt
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Vera Lee Hyatt, 90, of 350 Moss Crossing, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at her home.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Camp's Creek Baptist Church, Mooresboro, with the Revs. Steve Durham, Grady Gregory and Terry Clark officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 7:30 at White-Columns Funeral Service of Blacksburg and at other times at the home.

Broadus Martin
ASHEVILLE - Mr. Broadus Lee Martin, 93, of 500 Beverdam Road, formerly of Friendship Road, Shelby, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare in Asheville.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Genesis Funeral Service and Chapel, Shelby.

Jack Costner
SHELBY - Mr. Jack Luther Costner, 50, of 413 Claxton Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at his home.
A native of Gaston County, he was the son of Carl Costner of Gastonia and the late Nellie Medlin Costner. He retired from Pharr Yarn Mill and was a lifetime member of AmVets and D.A.V. He served in the Marines and in the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ogle Costner of the home; two sons, Nelson Brian Morgan of Shelby and Jack Luther Costner Jr. of Gastonia; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Freida and John Nance Jr. and Brenda Sue and Marty Poindexter, all of Gastonia, and Betty and Eddie Walker of Cherryville; one granddaughter, Alexis Brianne Morgan of Grover; six nieces; three nephews; five brothers-in-law; and six sisters-in-law, all of Shelby.
The funeral will be today at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Webb officiating.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the funeral home.

Clara Lattimore
GASTONIA - Mrs. Clara Flynn Lattimore, 90, of 1770 Oak Hollow Road, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at her home.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia with the Rev. Bob Bodenhammer officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park, Shelby.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Thelma Scott
UNION MILLS - Mrs. Thelma Mae Scott, 79, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Crowe's Mortuary and Chapel, Rutherfordton.

Thelma Gantt
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Thelma Cornwell Gantt, 79, of 117 Cornelius Road, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Sallie Barrett Cornwell. She was a member of River Hills Baptist Church of Moore, S.C., where she taught Ruth Sunday school class for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Gantt of the home; four daughters, Sheila Barnwell of Bat Cave, Ilene Eckley of Gaffney, S.C., Robin Dobyns of Wilkesboro and Susan Gantt of Louisville, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel with the Rev. Kent Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Margaret Parker
SPINDALE - Mrs. Margaret Baine Parker, 83, of 751 Oakland Road, Apartment B3, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
A memorial service will be tonight at 7 at Word of Faith Fellowship Church with Sam and Jane Whaley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

Max Lanier
MAIDEN - Mr. Max Truman Lanier, 73, of 4715 Buffalo Shoals Road, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Lincoln Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Nov. 14, 1927, a son of the late William and Chassie Gantt Lanier. He retired from Ethan-Allan, where he worked for 21 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Clinard Lanier; and brother, George P. Lanier.
He is survived by one son, Max Lanier II of Maiden; one daughter, Phyllis Slayton of the home; one brother, Glen Lanier of Lincolnton; one sister, Nancy Wright of Shelby; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Amity Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Little officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton.

Rilla Wright
SHELBY - Mrs. Rilla Gardner Wright, 90, of 4007 Fallston Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Shelby Manor.
Born Sept. 19, 1910, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Bailus Furman and Julia "Julie" Hamrick Gardner. She retired as a saleslady for Hudson's Department Store. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday school class and participated in their Bible study group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Pinkney Wright, and a brother, Allen Gardner.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Sadie Wright of Shelby; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jewell and Ralph Devine of Shelby and Julia Clara Sue Wright Turner of Kings Mountain; a brother and sister-in-law, Max and Rose Mary Gardner of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Aileen Gardner of Shelby; seven grandchildren, William Ralph Devine Jr., Darah D. Leonhardt, Neil Wright, Joy W. Fortenbury, Edwin Turner III, Deidre Turner Slifko and Shena T. Segrest; and 12 great-grandchildren, Kevin Warlick, Kelli Warlick, Wendy Parker, Wesley Wright, Ryan Hamrick, Clay Hamrick, Chelsie Slifko, Anna Grace Slifko, Katie Turner, Savanah Segrest, Grayson Segrest and Shelby Segrest.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Fitts officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home of Fallston and at other times at the home of Jewell Devine, 3609 Fallston Road, Shelby.

SHELBY - Mr. Johnny Lee Rippy, 52, of 423 Highland Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
