KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Betty Bennett Hayes, 72, of 915 Henry St., died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Don Williams officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Harris Funeral Home.

'Bud' Weese
HENRIETTA - Mr. Joe Frank "Bud" Weese, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Spartanburg Medical Center, in Spartanburg, S.C.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 to 9 at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen.

Lillie Jones
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Lillie Carroll Jones, 95, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at White Oak Manor, Rutherfordton.
A native of Hall County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late E.B. and Lula Gearin Carroll. She was a homemaker and a member of Drury Dobbins Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paris Jones.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Sally Jones of Shelby and Gerald and Lib Jones, all of Shelby; one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Carl Helton of Ellenboro; one brother, Dillard Carroll of Shelby; three sisters, Olive Freeman of Shelby, Ethel Spangler of Lebanon, Tenn., and Treddie Piercy of Mooresboro; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Barham and Bobby Deviney officiating. Burial will follow in Lattimore Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8:30 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, S.C.

Jerry Miller
ENTERPRISE, Fla. - Mr. Jerry Bowen Miller, 59, formerly of Shelby, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Enterprise, Fla.
A native of Shelby, he was born Jan. 31, 1941, the son of the late Banks Sr. and Elizabeth Miller. He was a retired computer systems manager from SAFECO Insurance Co.. He served in the Marine Corps as a lance corporal from 1961-65. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Volusia Fire Department and the Indian Mound Amateur Radio Society.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donny Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Rheba Tillman Miller of Enterprise; one son and daughter-in-law, Stacy and Laurie Miller of St. Marys, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Dawne and Richard Ragon of Enterprise; one stepgranddaughter, Bryanna Navarro; one granddaughter, Lauren Miller; and three brothers, Banks Miller Jr., Bob Miller and Steve Miller.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Lawndale with Dr. Joe McMurry officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to Children's Methodist Home, 51 Main St., Enterprise, FL 32725.

Oscar Sanders
GASTONIA - Mr. Oscar Sanders, 65, of 1041 Lakeview St., died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Ebony and White's Funeral Service, Inc.
The family will be at the home of his stepmother, Helen B. Sanders, 4087 East N.C. 27, Iron Station.

Dianne Easter
STANLEY - Mrs. Dianne Luckey Easter, 43, of 6970 Old Plank Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Lincoln Medical Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gold Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Franklin E. Lowery officiating.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service and the body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Ebony and White's Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Alda Atchley
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Alda Grayson Atchley, 80, formerly of Forest City, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Padgett & King Mortuary.

Lottie Bridges
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Lottie Louise Byers Bridges, 72, of 1626 E. Frederick St., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Drs. James W. Sanders Jr. and J.W. Sanders Sr. and the Revs. A.J. Smith, L.C. Knuckles, Heyward A. Boyd Sr. and Mary D. Jefferies officiating.
The body will be placed at the church one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow the service at Gaffney Memorial Park.
Foster Funeral Home of Gaffney is in charge of arrangements.

J.C. Piercy
SHELBY - Mr. J.C. Piercy, 69, of 1714 Farmville Road, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late William Crawford and Vernie Greene Piercy.
He was a retired mechanic from Matheny Ford in Forest City, where he worked for 17 years. He was a member of Race Path Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Pauline McDaniel Piercy of the home; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty P. and Bill Lovelace and Judy and Jerry Lowery, all of Shelby, Jane Piercy Springer of Topeka, Kan., and Mary Piercy of the home; six sons and three daughters-in-law, Johnny and Jo Piercy of Fallston, James and Lori Piercy of Mooresboro, Michael and Peggy Piercy of Shelby, David Piercy and William Piercy, both of Shelby, and J.C. Piercy Jr. of the home; one sister, Dorcas Borland of Greensboro; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Revs. Eddie Brackett and Ron Seigman officiating. Burial will follow in Race Path Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at the funeral home and other times at the home of a daughter, 1720 Farmville Road in Shelby.

BESSEMER CITY - Mr. Fredrick Smith, 29, of 701 Virginia Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by J.W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home.

Mary Lee Allison
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Mary Lee Allison, 80, of 696 S. Pink St., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Ebony and White's Funeral Service.

Elnora Beam
SHELBY - Mrs. Elnora Evangeline Dawkins Beam, 75, of 1232 Webb Drive, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at her home.
A daughter of the late Freeman and Hattie Nance Dawkins, she was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where she belonged to the senior choir and Missionary Department. She was a foster grandparent for the Girls Club and a former member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Beam.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Willard A. and Betty Beam of Shelby; two daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Billy Cunningham of Shelby and Peggy and Rowland Howell of Albemarle; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elder Z.A. and Ethal Dawkins of High Point and Benjamin and Ethal Dawkins of Shelby; three sisters, Ophelia D. Sarratt of Gaffney, S.C., Lillie D. Beam and Hattie D. Hall, both of Shelby; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Evans Beam of Earl, James and Yvonne Beam of Shelby, and Arthur J. and Minnie Smith of Caroleen; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Christine and Jessie Harrill of Caroleen and Sara Lee Rippy of Fayetteville; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. S.A. Roper officiating. Burial will follow at Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for an hour before the service at the church.
Withrow's Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ammons
MORGANTON - Mrs. Mary Newton Ammons, 83, of Grace Heights Nursing Home, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at her residence.
A native of Skipworth, Va., she was born Nov. 29, 1917, a daughter of the late Carlo Ivey and Ada Newton Newton. She was a retired weaver with Pilot Mill and a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hedie Ammons; four brothers, John R. Newton, Robert Newton, Edison Newton and Hazel Newton; and a sister, Bertha Keever.
She is survived by a son, Douglas Newton of Forest City; a brother, George Ben Newton of Connelly Springs; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Mineral Springs Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Buren Hastings officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Memorials can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Polly McGinnis
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Polly Ann Jackson McGinnis, 50, of 154 Twelve Oaks Drive, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at her home.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside, with the Revs. Ricky Poteat and Scotty Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Sandy Level Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends for 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Alda Atchley
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Alda Grayson Atchley, 80, formerly of
Smith Grove Road, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Florence Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.
Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Freeman
LAKE LURE - Mrs. Barbara Ann Russell Freeman, 56, of Freeman Town Road, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Crowe's Funeral Home, Rutherfordton. Burial will follow in St. John Missionary Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Atha Howell
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Atha Lee Gardner Howell, 70, of 831 Piney Knob Road, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Gilkey Church of God with the Revs. Kenneth Lytle and Steve Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Crowe's Mortuary.

Boyce Rhyne
GASTONIA - Mr. Boyce Lee Rhyne, 66, of 1518 Conrad Ave., died on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at the V.A. Hospital in Salisbury.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. James Lowery and Jeff Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with military rites.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.

Herman Edwards
CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Mr. Herman Eugene Edwards, 49, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Clyde M. and Ava Dellinger Edwards. He was a retired chief petty officer with the Navy.
He is survived by a daughter, Tammy Jackson of Wilmington; a son, Kevin Edwards of Durham; a grandson, Brandon Edwards of Durham; and four brothers, Tommy Edwards of Laurens, S.C., Clyde Edwards Jr. of Greenville, S.C., Leroy Edwards of Cherryville and David Edwards of Greenwood, S.C.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. John Woodard and Chaplain Joe Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the U.S. Navy and the graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 48.
The family will receive friends today from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
