Ola Putnam
SHELBY - Mrs. Ola Hamrick Putnam, 88, of 167 Sperling Drive, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 12, 1912, in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Johnny and Ella Stockton Hamrick. She was retired from Universal Manufacturing. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kay Putnam Stamey; three brothers; and seven sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Marion Alonzo Putnam; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Deloris Putnam of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Dale Brackett of Shelby; two grandsons, Bobby Putnam and Michael Brackett; a great-grandson, Matthew Stamey; two stepgrandsons, Tommy Burnett and Bobby Burnett; a stepgranddaughter, Wendy Lowery; and three stepgreat-grandsons, Brent Lowery, Tommy Lee Brown and Jason Lowery.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 pm. at New Prospect Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Tapp and Jake Thornburg officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.

Hallie Quinn
GASTONIA - Mrs. Hallie Roberta Rhyne Quinn, 66, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001.
She was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Gastonia. She was a member of Durham United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Penny Husky Gospel Choir and the United Methodist Women. She participated in the American Cancer Society support organizations and fund-raising groups. She retired from Rose's after working there as a sales associate for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Loyl W. Quinn Sr.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffery Rhyne of Norcross, Ga., and Loyl Jr. and Johnnie Quinn of Shelby; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheila Quinn and Vaudrey Funderburke of Charlotte and Janet Lynn Quinn of the home; a daughter-in-law, Marva Rhyne of Lincolnton; six grandchildren, Antoine Rhyne, V. Maxwell Funderburke, Myles Funderburke, Grayson McGruder, Quan Boyce and Tawanna Boyce; three great-grandchildren, India Vinson, Quanija Boyce and Davajiha Hoey.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Durham United Methodist Church in Shelby with the Rev. R.L. Hunter officiating.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park in Boiling Springs.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 28202.
Withrow's Funeral Home in Kings Mountain is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Franklin
BESSEMER CITY - Mr. Michael Bruce Franklin, 54, of 502 West Gaston Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at Lincoln Medical Center.
A native of Gaston County, he was a son of James R. Sr. and Audrey Causby Franklin of Bessemer City. He was the owner of GEM Machining and a member of First Baptist Church in Bessemer City. He was a retired chief master sergeant of the Air Force.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Joan R. Franklin; two daughters and one son-in-law, Renee and Scott Whitaker of Cherryville and Andrea "Andi" Franklin of the home; a brother and sister-in-law, J. Robert Jr. and Rosie Franklin of Charlotte; and a sister and brother-in-law, Crystal and Russ Liachoff of Matthews.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Bessemer City with Dr. Ron Pierce, the Revs. Jerry Lumston and Dick Whitener and an Air Force chaplain officiating. Burial will be in Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
The family received friends Tuesday night.
Sisk-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fannie Atkinson
HIGH POINT - Mrs. Fannie Washington Atkinson, 74, of 510 Ashburn St., died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
A native of Charlottesville, Va., she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Jennie Gibbons Washington and was a retired educator and church worker. She earned her bachelor of science in health and physical education from Hampton University and her master of science in physical education from New York University. She completed further advanced study at North Carolina A&T State University and Greensboro College to obtain her professional certification in special education.
Her career in the field of education spanned more than 34 years. She taught classes in dance and health at Dudley High School and William Penn High School. Later in her career, she taught special education classes for severely mentally disabled students at Griffin Junior High School and Ferndale Junior High School. Her devotion and dedication to serving the youth was recognized through several awards - High Point City Board of Education for Serving the Youth, First United Baptist Church Youth Service Recognition, 1998 "Mother of the Year" Award and many plaques of appreciation from graduating classes of William Penn High School. She was a former member of the North Carolina Teachers Association, National Education Association and La Colonie Club. She was a past president and a golden life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for more than 50 years. She was a charter member of First United Baptist Church and an active member of Daughters of Dorcas prior to her illness.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, James Atkinson; one son and daughter-in-law, James Walter Sr. and Karen G. Atkinson of Shelby; one daughter and son-in-law, Alisa Atkinson and William "Mack" McDonald of Charlotte; five grandchildren, James Jr. "Tiger," Ryan, Andrew, Anthony and Adriane; a sister and brother-in-law, Zola Washington and Lawrence Finley of Harrisburg, Pa.; and three sisters-in-law, Ethel Underwood Atkinson and Daisy Gore Atkinson, both of Chester, S.C., and Gwendolyn Robinson Atkinson of Charlotte.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Greater First United Baptist Church with the Rev. William S. Fails officiating. The Omega Omega ceremony by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will begin at 1:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Garden of Love, Carolina Biblical Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and at other times at the home.

Evans Beam
SHELBY - Mr. Evans Beam Jr., 47, of 1406 Vantage Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, in Orangeburg, S.C.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Withrow's Funeral Home.

Hazel Sherrill
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Hazel Buff Sherrill, 91, of 5939 Reddman Road No. 523, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Brian Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Spindale with the Rev. Don Christian officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Crowe's Funeral Home, Rutherfordton.

Houston Cooper
MOORESBORO - Mr. Houston Benjamin Cooper, 70, of 3510 McKinney Road, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Grady Sr. and Bessie Sentell Cooper. After his retirement from Fiber Industries, he worked for Gardner-Webb University and Cleveland County Recycling Center. He was a member of Race Path Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel Goode Cooper of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Phyllis Cooper of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Adam Cooper and Erin Cooper; one brother, Grady Cooper Jr. of Boiling Springs; five sisters, Ala Mae Cooper of Charlotte, Eloise Thornton and Ozie Hamrick, both of Boiling Springs, Marie Tyner of Lattimore and Elvina Bridges of Bremerton, Wash.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Race Path Baptist Church with the Rev. John Godfrey and Dr. Robert Parsons officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside.

Nannie Cothran
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Mrs. Nannie Sue Hollifield Cothran, 84, of 600 Hunts Bridge Road Apartment 304, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Magnolia Place.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. The body will be placed in the church an hour before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Hattie Hush
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Hattie Ruth Hush, 70, of 2825 Philadelphia Road, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at her home.

Lee Grayson
BOSTIC - Mr. Lee Jetter Grayson, 97, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Golden Valley United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Washburn and Dorsey Funeral Home.

Booker Hunt
SHELBY - Mr. Booker T. Hunt, 90, of White Oak Manor, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Nov. 30, 1910, a son of the late Doss and Bessie Hunt. He was a member of Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church and the Clover Hill Masonic Lodge No. 10. He was also self-employed as a farmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Atlea Miller Hunt; his second wife, Annie Mae Smith Hunt; his third wife, Emma Lizzie Odums Hunt; a brother, Bill Hunt; and daughter Delta Lee Hunt.
He is survived by one son and one daughter-in-law, Johnny Lee and Joan Hunt of Hickory; two daughters and one son-in-law, Ruthie Ross and Ethel Lee and Emmanuel Shell, all of Shelby; one adopted granddaughter, Mary Littlejohn and her husband, Jerry, of Shelby; one brother, Clarence Hunt of Jacksonville; three sisters, Lucille Cureton of Charlotte, Eula Mae Hunt of Hickory and Ethel Lee Costner of Boiling Springs; three stepsons and three stepdaughters-in-law, John Thomas and Lisa Stroud, Eddie Dean and Barbara Stroud and James and Barbara Stroud, all of Shelby; three stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Mary Spikes of Shelby, Claudette Hopper and Angela and Ricky Marble, all of Lawndale; 38 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; one special granddaughter, Ashley Hamrick of Lawndale; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ray Smith, Pat Sanford and Robert Sanford.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Brooks Chapel Methodist Church with Dr. T.A. Powell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Dockery's Home of Funerals.

Eli Allen
SHELBY - Mr. Eli Frank "Mr. Frank" Allen, 84, of 1404 Wesson Road, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Gaither and Margaret Hamrick Allen. He retired from Stuart's Superette, where he was also the owner. He also worked at G.T. McSwain's. He was a member of Westwood Heights Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a choir member. He was in the Navy during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Allen; and a sister, Edith Allen.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Dixon Allen; four daughters and four sons-in-law, Mary A. and Stephen R. Henderson of Thomasville, Kay A. and Scott Cloninger of Kings Mountain and Frances A. and Joseph Earwood and Barbara A. and Heath Hovis, all of Shelby; three sisters, Vera Self and Jeanette Lowrance, both of Columbia, S.C., and Patsy Bradley of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Westwood Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Sorrells and the Rev. Jimmy Black officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends two hours before the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Westwood Heights Baptst Church, 650 Dellinger Road, Shelby, NC 28152; and Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

Clara Gold
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Clara Ruth Hord Gold, of 8919 Park Road, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Southminster Retirement Community.
Born April 1, 1908, in Waco, she was a daughter of the late John Richard and Ella Whitworth Hord. She was a charter member of the Myers Park Baptist Church where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Gold, who died in 1981; one son, Gary Richard Gold in 1942; and three sisters, Essie Hord Spake, Leona Hord Miller and Zelma Hord.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul M. Jr. and Marilyn Gold of Sylva; a daughter, Kathleen Gold Lee of Charlotte; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ella Hord and Bill Williamson of Charlotte and Evelyn Hord Roberts of Shelby; four grandchildren, Richard "Chris" Lane of Charlotte, Martin Lane of Waxhaw, Cameron Lane and his wife, Melissa, and Maggie Lee, all of Charlotte; and a great-grandson, Tyler Lane.
A memorial service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Myers Park Baptist Church Chancel with the Rev. Joseph D. Aldrich officiating. Burial will be private for the family.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church sanctuary.
Memorials may be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.

William Oglesby
SHELBY - Mr. William A.C. Oglesday, 65, of 712 West Elm St., died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Island Creek Baptist Church with Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr., Evangelist Judy Dover and the Revs. James Armstrong, Mills McHam and Tony Macomson officiating. The body will be placed in the church an hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

John Wallace
CAROLEEN - Mr. John Leroy Wallace, 75, of 151 West St., died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service will be today at 11 a.m. at Avondale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Anthony Moore officiating.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cana Cemetery in Union Town, Ind.

Marvin Wright
KINGS MOUNTAIN - The Rev. Marvin "Eddie" Wright, 62, of 204 Coranada Lane, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Marvin Noah and Minnie Gordon Wright. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Christian Freedom Baptist Church, which he established.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Wright of Kings Mountain; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Russell and Lisa Wright, Tony Wright and Jeffrey Wright, all of Kings Mountain; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dr. Alfred and Doris Wright of Goldsboro and Arnold and Kathern Gordon-Wright of Charlotte; one sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Lawrence Carroll of Valdese; and two granddaughters, April Wright and Christine Wright, both of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. with Drs. Alfred Wright and Joel Wright and the Revs. Lawrence Carroll and Mike Chambers officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Margie Twitty
FOREST CITY - The Rev. Margie Mae Twitty, 65, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at The True Vine Penecostal Church in Forest City with the Rev. Johnny Sanford officiating.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
