George Liles Jr.
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. George Liles Jr., 75, of 116 Riley Circle, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at St. John AME Zion Church with Pastor Selena McEntyre officiating.
The body will be placed in the church an hour before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Thomas Goforth
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Thomas Howard Goforth, 62, of 5544 N.C. 182, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Oct. 24, 1938, a son of John Howard Goforth of Cherryville and the late Norma Martin Goforth. He was employed as a supervisor and shipping clerk by Jenkins Metal Corp. in Gastonia. He was a member of Plainsview Baptist Church of Lawndale and a member of the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one son, Carl Thomas Goforth; and two grandchildren, Carlette Denise Goforth and April Dawn Goforth.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Steven Goforth of Blacksburg, S.C., and Bobby Dale Goforth of Shelby; three daughters, Cynthia Birkert of Grand Prairie, Texas, Susan Marlow of Shelby and Carol G. Parker of Boiling Springs; one brother, Rocky Goforth of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Diane Allen of Kings Mountain and Kathy Hodge of Lattimore; and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Plainsview Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Ewing officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Plainsview Baptist Church, 1413 E. Stage Coach Trail, Lawndale, NC 28090.

Nannie Childs
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Nannie Sue Morehead Gettys Childs, 88, of 869 U.S. 74 Business, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Mary McCurry Morehead. She retired from Stonecutter Mill and was the owner and operator of Gettys Service Station in Ellenboro. She was a member of Campfield Memorial Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.W. "Bill" Gettys.
She is survived by her husband, William Childs; two sons, Bobby Gettys and John Ray Gettys, both of Ellenboro; one brother, Guy Morehead of Ellenboro; three sisters, Bessie Pitchford and Frances Wilson, both of Ellenboro and Georgia Dysart of Henrietta; two stepsons, Billy Wayne Childs of Ellenboro and Steven Childs of Norfolk, Va.; two stepdaughters, Debbie Lynn Childs of Marion and Lynn Arrowood of Ellenboro; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Campfield Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. Joey Cantrell, Bobby Gettys Jr. and Eugene Passmore officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside.

Louise Sunday
MOORESBORO - Mrs. Louise Givens Sunday, 84, of 3332 Belaire Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Century Care of Shelby.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of Thomas Francis and Ella Walker Givens.
She was a homemaker, who enjoyed making dolls, collecting dolls and working in flower gardens. She was an animal lover, who took care of many strays over the years. She was a member of Florence Baptist Church in Forest City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, L.H. "John" Sunday, in January.
She is survived by one son, Tom Sunday of Mooresboro; two grandchildren, Leighann Sunday Clark and Tommy Sunday, both of Mooresboro; one great-grandchild, Sean Thomas Clark of Mooresboro; one sister, Grace Givens Smith of Henrietta; several nieces and nephews in Rutherford County and Harrisburg, Pa.
A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cleveland County Humane Society, 1010 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC 28150.

Genell Lail
MOORESBORO - Mrs. Genell Teague Lail, 96, of 137 Trinity Church Road, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Autumn Care in Forest City.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Noah and Ella Harris Teague. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Criss Lail; two sons, Kenneth Lail and Charles Lail; and a daughter, Beth Williams.
She is survived by six sons and daughters-in-laws, Ronald and Dorothy Lail, Ned and Pat Lail, Mike and Patsy Lail, Ray and Frances Lail, all of Mooresboro, Max and Virginia Lail of Nashville, N.C., and Joe and Lucille Lail of Cliffside; one daughter and son-in-law, Merle and Hubert Dixon of Mooresboro; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Lail; a son-in-law, Ernest Williams; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. David Irish and the Rev. John Godfrey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Mr. Charles Elford Waldrop, 87, formerly of Rock Hill, S.C., and Shelby, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Lutz-Austell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

R.B. Haynes
SHELBY - Mr. R.B. Haynes, 61, of 1633 Friendship Road, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 25, 1939, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Eddie and Cora Lumpkin Haynes. He was a member of Washington Missionary Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Spake's Concrete.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven P. Haynes; two brothers, J.D. Haynes and Ambros Haynes; and a sister Jessye H. Colquiet.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Wilson Haynes of Shelby; two daughters, Jacqueline Haynes Foxx of Shelby and Tammy Haynes Wolfe of Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Robert Brian Haynes of Virginia Beach, Va.; three brothers, L.C. Haynes of Shelby, John A. Haynes of Gastonia and Gene C. Haynes of Baltimore; two sisters, Edda Lane and Gayle Street, both of Baltimore; six grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Washington Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Denorris Byers officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ruby Caldwell
SHELBY - Mrs. Ruby J. Caldwell, 68, of 410 Murdock Circle, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 20, 1932, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Bessie Johnson Caldwell. She was a member of Fairview AME Zion Church, Earl, and a former member of New Hope Baptist Church, Charlotte.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alyicia and Donnie Manning; three grandsons, Warren Bruce and Byran Darynell Manning, both of Shelby, and Ju' Warren Darynell Manning of Grover; one brother and three sisters-in-law, L.J. and Rebecca Caldwell of Baltimore and Alice Caldwell and Marion Caldwell, both of Shelby; one sister, Martha Lee Dawkins of Grover; and special friends Thomas and Thelma Bradley.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Fairview AME Zion Church, Earl, with the Rev. Marion Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Maggie Martin
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Maggie Bailey Martin, 100, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Autumn Care of Forest City.
The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen, with the Rev. Eugene Passmore officiating. Burial will be in the High Shoal Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Natalie Mashburn
BOSTIC - Miss Natalie Faith Mashburn, infant, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
A graveside service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.

Wilma Greene
SHELBY - Mrs. Wilma M. Shields Greene, 80, formerly of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Spartanburg County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Melton and Dora Westbrook Shields. She was a homemaker and seamstress, who did alterations for many people. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Marshall Greene; and five brother and sisters.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Lewis Barrett of Shelby; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Edith and Eston Waldrep of North, S.C., Gladys Jolly of Inman, S.C., and Opel Oles of Spartanburg; one granddaughter, Kimberly Long and her husband, Coval, of Lumberton; and two great-grandchildren, Austin Long and Cameron Long.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Family Worship Center, Kings Mountain, with the Revs. James Allen and Roger Woodard officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Dwight Luther "Luke" Beam Jr., 58, of 1439 Cherryville Highway, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Wayne Key and Ken Gibson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Emma Atkinson
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Emma Huskey Atkinson, 94, of 836 Buck Shoals Road, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Peachtree Center.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Frazier and Buddy Moorehead officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. at the residence of Sue and Charles McCraw, 197 State Line Road, Gaffney.

Frank Newton
FOREST CITY - Mr. Frank Browning Newton, 84, of Harmony Hills Apartments, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Hughes Hobson officiating. Burial will be in Cool Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Padgett and King Mortuary, Forest City, and other times at the home of a sister, Lois Downey, South Broadway Street, Forest City.

G.C. Greene
BOILING SPRINGS - Mr. G.C. Greene, 81, of 1917 Holly Hill Road, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Tom and Emma Moore Greene. He was retired from Cleveland Sandwich Co., where he was a salesman for more than 30 years. He was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Winn Greene; a brother, Herbert P. Greene; and a twin sister, O.Z. Greene Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Winn Greene of the home; three daughters, Julia Greene, Ginny Greene and Chris Greene, all of Boiling Springs; three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Barbara Greene and Tommy and Connie Greene, all of Boiling Springs, and Bill and Carolyn Greene of Ellenboro; a sister, Nell Surratt of Boiling Springs; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 3:15 p.m. at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Drs. Carroll Page and Robert Parsons officiating.
The body will be placed in the church from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the old fellowship hall of Boiling Springs Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights, Shelby, NC 28150.
