CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Ruth Nunn Sellers, 75, of 580 Carolina Care Center Apartment 3, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Cherryville with the Rev. Philip Deitz officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Jewell Kirkman
BOILING SPRINGS - Mrs. Jewell Kimbrell Kirkman, 84, of 361 Double Bridge Road, formerly of Spindale, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Crowe's Funeral Home in Rutherfordton with the Rev. Rick Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Spindale City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home.

Betty Varner
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Betty Carroll Varner, 56, of 425 N. Charleston St., died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Brookview Healthcare in Gaffney, S.C.
Services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Boone officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at White Columns Funeral Service, Blacksburg.

Warren Bradley
GASTONIA - Mr. Warren G. Harding Bradley, 79, of 1029 Plymouth St., died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury.
A native of Dallas, he was the son of the late Frank M. and Lilly Griffith Bradley. He was a machinist with Ferguson Gear, a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, a member of VFW, and an Army veteran, serving in the 99th Division of Field Artillery and who later transferred to the 1st Division. He was also a member of National Aerospace and Aeronautical Machinists Union and a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Evon Claude Bradley, and three infant sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Sherrill Bradley; two brothers and two daughters-in-law, Evon Claude and Nancy Bradley of Cherryville and Jeffrey Warren and Kendra Bradley of Casar; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Peggy Bradley Turbyfill, Sandra Gail and Nelson Jenkins and Janice Lauren and Tom Nencetti, all of Gastonia; one brother and one sister-in-law, Melvin Wesley and Ruby Bradley of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, Peggy Sue Schwartz, Kenneth Turbyfill Jr., Matthew Jenkins, Jessica Jenkins, David McMillan, Katie Nencetti and Mackenzie Bradley; one great-granddaughter, Grayson Nicole Schwartz; two stepgrandchildren, Joseph Adam Fowler and Charles Alan Fowler Jr.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors Founders Chapel with the Rev. Fred Mauney officiating. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park with full military rites by the Last Man Club.
Pallbearers will be Chad Brewer, Charles A. Fowler Jr., Joseph A. Fowler, Kenneth Hamby Sr., Forrest Jenkins, Michael Nencetti, Charles Painter and Stephen Schwartz.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 to 8:30 at McLean Funeral Directors.

Howard Hamrick
NEWTON - Mr. Howard Edd Hamrick, 79, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Garlie and Earlie Clary Hamrick. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lincolnton. He was employed as a machine repairman at Moretz Inc. of Newton. He served in the Army during World War II as a medical technician and received the American Theater Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Osteen Wall Hamrick, and a sister, Catheline Lancaster.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Annie Hamrick of Icard and Connie and Marshall Sisk of Hickory; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Howard Dale and Annette Hamrick of Lincolnton and T. Buren and Revonda Hamrick of Hickory; six sisters, Winnie Hudson, Betty Jean Murray, both of Kings Mountain, Ella Mae Duncan of Spartanburg, S.C., Mary Etta Short of Cherryville, Faye Benoy of Ocean Isle Beach and Dorothy Ruth Murray of Shelby; four brothers, Herman Hamrick and James Hamrick, both of Shelby, Marvin Hamrick of Grover and Jessie Hamrick of Calabash; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Catawba Funeral Home in Hickory with the Revs. Fred Hawkins and David Jones officiating. Entombment will be at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory with military honors by the American Legion Post 48.
Pallbearers are Lenny Sartain, Tommy Childers, Ed Sisk, Chris Sisk, Shane Hamrick and Jimmy Hamrick.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service.

Anna Grace Canipe
SHELBY - Anna Grace Canipe, newborn daughter of Tracy Dean Canipe and Linda Sharon Morehead, of 157A Bristol Lane, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Robbie and Gene "Dick" Canipe and Sandra Morehead, all of Shelby, and Steve and Debbie Morehead of Morganton; a great-grandmother, Lib Morehead of Morganton; one sister, Amber Canipe of Shelby; and one half-sister, Mindi Carroll of Boiling Springs.
A private graveside service will be at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Bridges officiating.

Curtis A. BeBee
PITTSBURGH, PA - Mr. Curtis A. BeBee, 23, died Saturday, March 3, 2001.
He was the son of Paulette M. BeBee and the late Curtis Freeman.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his adoptive father, Earl Durah; adopted brother, Eric Durah; two grandmothers, Gladys B. BeBee of Pittsburgh and Clara Freeman of Shelby; and numerous aunts, uncles nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Robinson Funeral Home in Pittsburgh. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home, 2025 Perrysville Ave., Pittsburgh.

Allen 'Buddy' Hamby
GRANITE FALLS - Mr. Allen Garfield Hamby, 62, of 68 Woodlane Ave., died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Caldwell County Hospice.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Royal Allen and Jossie Lee Wiggins Hamby. He retired from Thomasville Furniture in Sawmills. He attended Pooveys Chapel Baptist Church in Hudson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Smith Hamby.
He is survived by one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Lucky and Shirley Simpson of Granite Falls; one sister and brother-in-law, Mayreece H. and David Mills of Baltimore; one nephew, Ronald Mills of Baltimore; two nieces, Linda Furrar and Dawn Mills of Baltimore; eight aunts, Arizona Hamby of Lawndale, Hattie Duckworth, Annie Belle Womack and Nell Hamby, all of Morganton, Mae Beshears of Shelby; Dora Hamby and Grace Haynes of Casar and Everea Polis of Norfolk, Va.; two stepgrandchildren, Tammy S. Davis of Dudley Shoals and John Grady Simpson of Granite Falls; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Megan Dula and Luke Simpson.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the Revs. Richard Johnson and Bob Hollar officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Shirleen Degree
SHELBY - Mrs. Shirleen Hopper Degree, 57, of Preyer Street, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Revs. Lawrence Roseboro and J.Q. Camp officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.
Genesis Funeral Service and Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Charles 'Chic' Roche
SHELBY - Mr. Charles "Chic" Roche, 94, of 1205 Starlite Drive, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at his home.
A native of Decatur, Ill., he was the son of the late John Richard and Flora Temple Roche. He was a retired maintenance mechanic from Hercules Inc. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Salefski Roche of the home; one son, Richard Ronald Roche of Statesville; one daughter, Judith Ann Roche Bridges of Arkansas; one granddaughter, Cheryl Lynn Miller of Charlotte; three grandsons, David Brian Miller of Charlotte, Jeffrey Brandon Roche of Rock Hill, S.C., and Andrew Patrick Roche of Las Vegas.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Lohr officiating. Burial will follow in the Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service and at other times at 1205 Starlite Drive in Shelby.
Memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 300 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28150.
Cleveland Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

John David Ledbetter Sr.
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. John David Ledbetter Sr., 75, of 610 Mica St., died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery in the Veterans Garden.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Walter Mason Sr.
ELLENBORO - Mr. Walter Benjamin Mason Sr., 74, of 650 Hopewell Road, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late John Samuel and Mary Minerva Bowden Mason. He was a member of White Oak Springs Baptist Church. He retired from Alpha-Tuck Construction Co. after 20 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Samuel Mason.
He was survived by his wife, Lucy Elizabeth Spikes Mason; two daughters, Mildred H. Spikes and Elaine S. Forney, both of Ellenboro; two sons, Walter B. Mason Jr. and Calvin D. Mason, both of Ellenboro; one sister and brother-in-law, Verdie M. and William Lee Spikes, both of Shelby; his mother-in-law, Emma O. Spikes of High Point; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Roberts of High Point; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at White Oak Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Pryor officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ottie Ellis
SHELBY - Mrs. Ottie L. Ellis, of Sterling House, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Sara Alice Wright London. She was retired co-owner of J.B. Ellis Bicycle Shop. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a member of the Golden Links Sunday school class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Ellis.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Charles Boggs of Charlotte; one brother-in-law, Joe Ellis and his wife, Margaret, of Shelby; one sister, Wilma Beam of Cherryville; two sisters-in-law, Bettie Jordan of Charlotte and Margaret Jenkins of Shelby; two grandchildren, Wendy Ferlisi and her husband, Mark, of Charlotte and Alesia Sprouse and her husband, Tony, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren, Amber Ferlisi, Amanda Ferlisi and Andrew Sprouse.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Joe Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 6:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

A.V. 'Bud' Haynes
SHELBY - Mr. A.V. 'Bud' Haynes, 78, of 2820 Hugh Harrill Road, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Luther G. and Beulah Crowder Haynes. He worked at the Navy Yard in Charleston, S.C., Dover Mill Co. and Lutz-Austell Funeral Home. He was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church and a member of the Shelby Rescue squad for 25 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Whitener Haynes; one son, Kevin Whitener Haynes; and one brother, Luther Glenn Haynes.
He is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marjorie Haynes and Junior Ashley and Ophelia Haynes Ledford, all of Shelby; one sister-in-law, Jean Haynes of Shelby; one granddaughter, Megan Calloway of Shelby; four nieces; and one nephew.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Rehobeth United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Carnes officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service begins. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 7:30 at Cleveland Funeral Services and at other times at 2820 Hugh Harrill Road in Shelby.

John Bryan
BOONE - Mr. John Herman Bryan, 85, of 493 Bryan Hollow Road, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at his home.
A native of Watauga County, he was the son of the late John Roby and Maggie Norris Bryan. He retired from Watauga Medical Center in 1981 after 21 years of service and was also a farmer. He was a member of Proffit's Grove Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Miller Bryan; his great-granddaughter, Shariette Len Taylor; two brothers, Lloyd Bryan and Dan Bryan; and three sisters, Alma Beach, Belle Morris and Emma Davis.
He is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Barbara Jackson, Betty and Edwin Norris, Lillie and Dale Roark, all of Boone, and Peggy and Richard Stroup of Shelby; seven sons and daughters-in-law, Junior and Frances Miller of Elkin, John Harold and Nancy Bryan of Charlotte, Joe and Ruby Bryan, James L. "Jim" and Dorothy Bryan and Curtis and Theresa Bryan, all of Boone, Terry and Peggy Bryan of Hamptonville and Corbit and Jayna Bryan of Fleetwood; one sister, Iva Lee Norris of Mountain City, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Patty Jones Bryan of Boone; 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Proffit's Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Delmar James and Gordon Noble officiating.
The body will be placed in the church an hour before the service. Burial with military rites will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Hampton Funeral Service.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Watauga County, 136 Furman Road, Boone, NC 28607; or to Proffit's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3200 Meat Camp Road, Boone, NC 28607.

Joseph Perkins
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Joseph Eli Perkins, 82, of 2633 No. 2 Lanecrest Drive, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home in Huntersville.
He retired after many years of service with the Charlotte/Mecklenburg School System.
He is survived by two sons, John Frank Perkins of Charlotte and Donald Bess of Shelby; two daughters, Mary Ann Truesdale of Charlotte and Sheila Durham of Shelby; two sisters, Sarah Davis and Adele Camp, both of Shelby; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at New Shiloh Baptist Church in Charlotte.
Burial will be in Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
King's Funeral Home of Charlotte is in charge of arrangements.
