Susie Barber
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Susie Taylor Moore Barber, 69, of 300 Fairview St., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late William Hunter and Dora Mae Hudson Taylor. She was a member of Midview Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. T. Moore; and two brothers, Charles Taylor and Doyt Taylor.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Barber of Kings Mountain; one son, Timothy Moore of Kings Mountain; one daughter and son-in-law, Christine Moore and John Faircloth of Earl; one brother, Hunter Leroy Taylor of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Addie Mae Reynolds of Bessemer City and Aileen McBride of Winston-Salem; and two grandchildren, Emily Rebecca Faircloth and Matthew Reuben Faircloth.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Bob Hope and J.D. Adams officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Odell Hutley
KINGSTOWN - Mr. Odell Hutley, 83, of 1806 Boyce Road, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Century Care in Shelby.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Ramseur Baptist Church with the Revs. J.Q. Camp and Billy J. Ramseur officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday 30 minutes before the service at the church and other times at 1813 Petty Road in Shelby.
Mobley's Mortuary and Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Phillips
SHELBY - Ms. Linda Ann Dorsey Phillips, 34, of 310 Black St., died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Shelby, she was the daughter of Patricia Ann Mason Dorsey and the late Willie Dorsey. She was employed with PolyGram Inc. in Grover.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Larry Phillips of Gaffney, S.C.; one sister, Willie Ann Mason of Shelby; one godson, Nigel Phillips of Gaffney; one niece, Precious Mason of Shelby; one cousin, Robin Dorsey of Shelby; and a friend, Jerimiah McDowell of Shelby.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Westside Praise and Worship Center with the Rev. Donagrant McCluney officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends Friday one hour before the service at the church.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Campbell
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Beatrice Campbell, 77, of 934 W. Warren St., died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Avery and Daisy Smart Beaver. She was retired from Esther Mill and Nu Way Laundry/Cleaners. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church. She was a volunteer donor with Red Cross and earned her Two Gallon Pin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Campbell; one son, Dwight Issac Campbell; and four brothers, William Beaver, Johnny Beaver, Junior Beaver and Glenn Beaver.
She is survived by one son, Jerry T. Campbell of Shelby; two daughters, Linda Crawford of Forest City and Debra Burton of Trenton, Ga.; four brothers, George Beaver and Virgil Beaver, both of Shelby, Ray Beaver of Florida and Bobby Beaver of Hickory; three sisters, Katie Mae Hipps of Charlotte, Bertha Hoyle and Dorothy Jones, both of Shelby; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. John Bridges officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the chapel at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home and other times at the home of Robert Campbell, 206 Leslie Drive, Shelby.

Mary Secrest
SHELBY - Ms. Mary Secrest, 81, of 1524 Rhyne St., died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at her residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

D.C. Greene
MOORESBORO - Mr. D.C. Greene, 80, of 2732 Ruppe Road, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Judd and Martha Ruppe Greene. He was a retired farmer and a member of Lavonia Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Bonner Greene of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Mable Greene of Gaffney, S.C.; and one grandson, Johnny Greene of Gaffney.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ruppe Family Cemetery in Mooresboro with the Rev. Jack Pennington officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Vee Peeler Walsh
NORFOLK, Va. - Mrs. Vee Peeler Walsh, 73, formerly of Shelby, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Sentra Rest Home of Norfolk.
He is survived by one son, Frank Nemis of Virginia Beach, Va.; one daughter, Bev Swanson of Huntersville; two brothers, Otis Peeler of Lawndale and Jimmy Peeler of Kings Mountain; and three sisters, Helen Rumblhart of Omaha, Neb., Jeanette Marlowe of Myrtle Beach and Dolly Greene of Lawndale.
Stamey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elmer Huntsinger
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Elmer Leroy "Flat" Huntsinger, 84, of 612 Charles St., Apt. 6, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the chapel at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Kirk officiating. Burial will follow at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Verdie Poteat
ANNANDALE, Va. - Mrs. Verdie Wilson Poteat, 95, of Sleepy Hollow Nursing Home in Annandale, formerly of 3711 LaVista Drive, Shelby, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents John Wesley and Linnie Jones Wilson. She made her home with her daughter and son-in-law in Annandale for the past several years. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Horace E. Poteat of Stanley; one daughter, Rebecca P. Mode of Annandale; two sisters, Daisy Edwards and Ellie Lee, both of Shelby; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 123 Beaver Dam Road, Shelby, N.C. 28152.

Raleigh Martin
MOORESBORO - Mr. Raleigh N. Martin, 81, of 532 Sandy Run Church Road, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999,at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Cleveland Funeral Services.

Ruth Smith
ROANOKE, Va. - Mrs. Ruth Horton Smith, 79, of Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Roanoke, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999.
A native of Kershaw, S.C., she was born on June 28, 1920, the daughter of the late Hunter and Lula Horton. She was a graduate of McLeod Infirmary School of Nursing in Florence, S.C. She was a nurse in the Medical Center at Duke University. Afterward she moved to the Duke University Student Infirmary, where she was the head nurse for 26 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Coke Smith Sr.; four sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Terri Smith of Roanoke; one daughter and son-in-law, Kitty and Jack Williams of Shelby; four grandchildren, Tara Smith of Charlotte, Chad Smith of Blacksburg, Va., Kelley Williams of Reston and Kim Williams Becker and her husband, Mike of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Johnnie Horton of Kershaw; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Durham with Dr. Joseph M. Reeves, Associate Minister, Central United Methodist Church in Shelby officiating.
Memorials may be made to Flood Victims of Hurricane Floyd, c/o Trinity United Methodist Church, 215 N. Church St., Durham, N.C. 27701.

Lura Gantt
SHELBY - Mrs. Lura Alice Wright Gantt, 92, of 1101 N. Morgan St., Century Care, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born on Jan. 3, 1907, the daughter of the late Thomas and Dovie Condrey Wright. She was a homemaker and was a member of Zion Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar McKinley Gantt; one daughter, Rachel Wellmon; one son, Mick Gantt; and one grandson, Chris Wellmon.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Gene and Lib Gantt, Don and Ioma Gantt and Jim and Doris Gantt, all of Shelby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Annie Pearl and Roy Wellmon of Shelby and Jessie and John Rodriguez of Atlanta; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Bridges and Russell Fitts officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of a son, Bob Gantt, 601 Wilson Cornwell Road, Shelby.

Willie Degree
SHELBY - Mrs. Willie Mae Shade Degree, 49, of 113 Steeple St., died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Faith Harvest Church, 1001 Buffalo St., Shelby with Bishop Randy L. Borders officiating. The body may be viewed on Thursday until 8 p.m. at Genesis Chapel, 413 Weathers St., Shelby, and on Friday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends Friday 30 minutes before the service at the church.
Genesis Funeral Service and Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Claude Wells Sr.
BOSTIC - Mr. Claude R. Wells Sr., 90, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Woodlands Nursing Center in Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Salem Methodist Church with the Revs. Jim King and Roger Overton officiating. Burial will follow at Walls Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Padgett and King Mortuary.

Therlo "Pete" Bailey
BOSTIC - Mr. Therlo "Pete" Bailey, 70, of 2059 Salem Church Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Woodlands Nursing Center in Rutherfordton.
A graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 at Washburn and Dorsey Funeral Home.

Ricky Joe Pack
SHELBY - Mr. Ricky Joe Pack, 35, of 1624 S. Post Road, Lot No. 8, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Hospice at Wendover.
A memorial service will be today at 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Independent Baptist Church in Kings Mountain with the Rev. Kevin Mathis officiating.

Barbara Heafner
BESSEMER CITY - Mrs. Barbara Eaker Heafner, 89, of 2520 Tryon Courthouse Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Carolina Care Center in Cherryville.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church in Bessemer City with the Revs. Claudia Harrelson and John Herold officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Carpenter's Funeral Home in Cherryville.

FOREST CITY - Mr. John W. McGregor, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999.

DALLAS, N.C. - Mr. Robert William Eng II, 64, of 100 Hardin School Road, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Lincoln Medical Center in Lincolnton.
