Bobby Lytle
LAWNDALE - Mr. Bobby R. Lytle, 71, of 1432 Fletcher Road, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Travelers Rest, S.C., he was born July 8, 1928, the son of the late O.C. "Heavy" and Flossie Jolley Lytle. He was a retired self - employed electrical contractor. He was a member of the Missionary Methodist Church in Cliffside.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Proctor Lytle of the home; one son, the Rev. Ronald J. Lytle of Ansonville; three daughters, Libby Tallent of Lawndale, Debbie Hoyle of Shelby and Cindy Newton of Casar; and eight grandchildren, Ronnie Lytle Jr., Carla Lytle, Dusty Tallent, Johnny Tallent, Matthew Hoyle, Josie Newton, Katlyn Newton and Jimmy Hoyle.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil Buff officiating. Burial will be in Cliffside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Miriam Allen
SHELBY - Mrs. Miriam Stillwell Allen, 90, died Sunday, May 5, 2001, at home.
A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar H. and Gertie Stillwell. She came to Cleveland County in 1945, and was an elementary school teacher until her retirement. She held a master of education degree from George Peabody College. She was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member of FIDELIS Sunday school class. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teacher sorority.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leonard A. Allen; one brother, David Stillwell; and two sisters, Kate Reeves and Martha Lou Stillwell.
She is survived by a sister, Carolyn Harwood of Charlotte; a sister - in - law, Edna Ginn of Boone; one daughter and son - in - law, Gene and Shirley Byers of Blacksburg, S.C.; one granddaughter, Beverly Allen Greene of Shelby; two grandsons, Chris Byers and Scott Byers of Blacksburg; and four great - grandchildren, Miriam Greene of Durham, Jonathon Greene of Shelby and Heather Byers and Amber Byers, both of Blacksburg.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Carroll Page and the Rev. Keith Dixon officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the new fellowship hall at the church.
Memorials may be made to Boiling Springs Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 917, Boiling Springs, NC 28017; or to the Allen Elliott Ginn Scholarship Fund, Gardner - Webb University, 110 S. Main St., Boiling Springs, NC 28017.

Floya Putman
HENRIETTA - Mrs. Floya Mae Nodine Putman, 82, of Henrietta, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Henrietta First Baptist Church with the Revs. Trey Gilliam and Bob Philbeck officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.

Bruner Bess
SHELBY - Mr. Bruner Ellis Bess, 85, of 2646 New Prospect Church Road, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Lincoln County, he was born June 5, 1915, the son of the late Daniel Rush and Blanche Canipe Bess. He was the owner and operator of Bess Superette. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was in the Army's 6th Armored Division during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Bess.
He is survived by his wife, Thera Cloe Costner Bess; two daughters and two sons - in - law, Malinda Bess and Lester Perry of Hudson and Rita Bess and Jerry Davis of Lenoir; three brothers, Wayne Bess of Kings Mountain, Garland "Tom" Bess of Mooresboro and Walter "Curt" Bess of Waco; four sisters, Sethelle Hoyle of Rutherfordton, Maxine Wilson of Columbia, S.C., and Sue Dycus and Jeanette Bridges, both of Shelby; three grandsons, Adrian Davis, Nolan Davis and Ryan Davis, all of Lenoir; three granddaughters, Redeana Davis, Leslie Hawkins and her husband, Tracy, and Miranda Denning and her husband, Robbie, all of Lenoir; and one great - grandson, Preston Hawkins.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dean Smith and Howard Haskell officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Edwin Dalton, 2500 New Prospect Church Road, Shelby, NC 28150; or to Hospice at Wendover, 953 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

Eva Self
CHERRYVILLE - Miss Eva Anna Self, 81, of Carolina Care, Cherryville, formerly of Black Street, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter's Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Love officiating.
Burial will be in Zion Hill Baptist Cemetery in Lawndale.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home and other times will be at the home of a niece, Pansy Self, Requa Road, Cherryville.

Irene Segers
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Irene Murray Toney Segers, 78, of 190 Caldwell St., died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, she was born March 27, 1923, the daughter of the late George and Georgia Holland Murray. She was a retired winder and a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Bostic.
She is survived by her husband, John Burley Segers of Forest City; two sons, Carl Segers and Dennis Segers, both of Forest City; three daughters, Joyce Tate of Ellenboro, Juanita Kimbrell of Forest City and Linda Jackson of Shelby; one sister, Bessie Ford of Melburne, Fla.; three brothers, Oscar Murray of Bostic, Lloyd Murray of Shelby and Clifford Murray of Forest City; 19 grandchildren; 26 great - grandchildren; and five great - great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Mount Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Wayne Toney, George W. Whitmire and Alan Bean officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Crowe's Funeral Home, Rutherfordton, and at other times at the home of the daughter, Juanita Kimbrell of 177 Gail Drive, Forest City.

Willard Tate
HINTON, Okla. - Mr. Willard A. Tate, 85, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Red Rock Manor Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 6, 1916, in Asheville, he was the son of the late David L. and Allie G. Knight Tate. He attended Grace High School, was a retired deputy sheriff from Buncombe County, captain of the Biltmore Forest Police Department and security maintenance of Kings Mountain City Schools. He had lived in the Hinton area for the past 20 years. A hunter and sports fan, he was a member and supporter of El Reno AA, Hinton Senior Citizens, Rock of Restoration Church, Beaver Dam Baptist Church and was a lifelong Democrat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Coy Tate and Clarence Richard Tate; his grandson, Greg Murray; and his great - granddaughter, Ashley Toho.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons - in - law, Yvonne and Jim Boggs of Lawndale, Linda and Charlie Wheeler of Calumet, Okla., and Billie Jean Tate of North Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren, Teresa Crick and her husband, Fred, and Pam Toho and her husband, Frankie, all of Hinton, Houston Boggs of Union Mills, Allen Boggs of Hamptonville, Jan Langdon of Willow Springs and Wesley Tate of Little Rock, Ark.; five great - grandchildren, Josh Toho, Luke Toho, Jared Toho, Jessica Crick and Caleb Crick; two brothers, Arnold Tate of Prospect, Ky., and Everett Tate of Asheville; and one sister, Evelyn Setliff of King George, Va.
Funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hinton - Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Zoschak officiating.
Burial will be in Hinton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to New Seasons Hospice of Weatherford, Okla., or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation care of Cancer.

Wayne Farmer Jr.
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. - Mr. Wayne W. "Buddy" Farmer Jr., 70, of 1900 Dearborne Ave., died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Bluefield Hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1930, in Bluefield, he was the son of the late Wayne W. Sr. and Blanche Peters Farmer. He was a member of First Christian Church of Bluefield. He was a former deacon of the church and was the lawn manager and took part in men's work day projects. He served in the US Marine Corps in the Korean War. He was a retired manager of J&W Welding Co. and was a former employee of the Norfolk & Western Railroad. He also sold mine equipment and machinery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph E. Farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ruble Farmer of the home; three daughters and two sons - in - law, Barbara Lynn Farmer and her friend, Reggie Mills, of Winston - Salem, Susan and Bruce Kirchner of Sebastian, Fla., and Leslee and Steve Padis of Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Norma Jean Cabaniss of Shelby; three grandchildren, Michael Kirchner and Patrick Kirchner, both of Sebastian, and Olivia Padis of Roanoke; a special uncle, James Peters, and his wife, Clarice, of Bluefield; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. C. Michael Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Princeton where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Mercer Funeral Home and Crematory in Bluefield.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 2200 Bland Road, Bluefield, WV 24701.

David Lucas
SHELBY - The Rev. David Edward Lucas, 80, of 804 Elmwood Drive, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Westmoreland County, Va., he was the son of the late Benjamin and Annie Bel Washington Lucas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Lucas and Melvin Lucas; and a sister, Blanche Forstoffer.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a first sergeant and he served in Chaplaincy Corps, Italy and Northern Africa Campaigns. Lucas attended Mars Hill College and Southwestern Baptist Seminary College in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from Furman College in 1949.
He was a Baptist minister pastoring at Ross Grove Baptist Church in Shelby, and Rock Springs Baptist Church in Rutherford County. He also served in churches in South Carolina, Maryland and New Hampshire.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Barnette Lucas, of the home; a son and daughter - in - law, David Lowell and Pam Lucas of Blacksburg, S.C.; two daughters and sons - in - law, Grace and Bobby Dawson, of Grover, Wanda and Scott Eaker of Shelby; one sister, Peggy Ellerbusch, of Shelby; six grandchildren, Ricky Greene, Melissa and Ben Eaker, Kelsey Lucas, and Michael and Nathan Dixon; and two great - grandchildren, Kiara Roseboro and Jordan Eaker.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Brackett and Clyde Kerry officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family received friends Saturday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Westview Baptist Church Day Care, 500 Melody Lane, Shelby, NC 28152.

Destinee Beam
SHELBY - Miss Destinee Iyanla Beam, 9 months, of 308 Olsen Drive, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Starlett Beam and Antwan Teagle of Jacksonville and her father, Augustine Schonader of Jacksonville.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Sincere Irayah Beam of Shelby; grandparents, Betty and Willard Beam of the home and Mietta and Augustine Sherman Sr. of Liberia, Africa; a special aunt, Chastidy McIntosh of the home; another aunt, Monica Schmader of Providence, R.I.; an uncle, Chad McIntosh of Greensboro; and a special cousin, DeVonta McIntosh of Shelby.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Walls Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathaiel Craig officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service for a quiet hour.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Thompson Brothers Funeral Home of Forest City is in charge of arrangements.

Mona Sue Pruitt
SHELBY - Mrs. Mona Sue Pruitt, 56, of 1217 Starlight Drive, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Otto and Bertha Hayes Pruitt. She was a cashier at CVS Pharmacy. She was a member of Santee Nations and Pathway.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Chad Brown.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two daughters, Sheryl Cooper and Rhonda Fortson, both of Shelby; four brothers, Sammy Pruitt of Richmond, Va., Richard Pruitt and Warren Pruitt, both of Shelby, and Carl Pruitt of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren, Austin Cooper and Corey Fortson, both of Shelby
The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Lutz-Austell Funeral Home with Chief Bill Koon officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Lee Mabry
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Lee Edward Mabry, 72, of 2061 Bethlehem Road, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
A native of Union, S.C., he was the son of the late Wade and Agnes Fowler Mabry. He was a member of Love Valley Baptist Church and was retired from Kings Mountain Mica Co.. He served in the Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Smith; and a sister, Grace Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Black Mabry of the home; a daughter and son - in - law, Lois and Ronnie Smith of Grover; two brothers, Bobby Earl Mabry of Grover and William Shatley of Gaffney, S.C.; three sisters, Lois McAbee of Gaffney, Johnnie Yarborugh of Blacksburg, S.C., and June Gardner of Spartanburg, S.C.; and a granddaughter, Dwan Smith of Grover.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Love Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Barry Philbeck and Jerry Allen officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain.
Burial will be in Grover Cemetery.

Ruth Metcalf
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Ruth Aileen Ramsey Metcalf, 74, of Century Care Health Center, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, with the Rev. Bob Hope officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

BOSTIC - Mr. A.C. Atchley, 80, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Brittain Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church until 5 p.m.

J.H. Bumgarner
BOSTIC - Mr. J.H. Bumgarner, 70, of 320 Hunt Road, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Hulda Mae Smith Bumgarner. He was a member of Golden Valley Missionary Methodist Church. He was retired from Broyhill Manufacturing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Woodrow Bumgarner.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Brackett Bumgarner; a son, Danny Bumgarner of Bostic; two daughters, Carol Smith of Collettsville and Elaine Holland of Golden Valley; four brothers, D.C. Bumgarner and Lero Bumgarner, both of Golden Valley, Leonard Bumgarner of Forest City and Earnest Bumgarner of Casar; one sister, Lizzie Ellington of Golden Valley; seven granddaughters; and two grandsons.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Golden Valley Missionary Methodist Church with the Revs. Lamar Hewitt and Tommy Cook officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Kanipe officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home in Bostic.
