Flay Norville
SHELBY - Mr. Robert Flay Norville, 89, of White Oak Manor, formerly of 617 Kings Road, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Ruther - ford County, he was the son of the late Clyde Alexander Norville and Sarah Elizabeth Reep. He was a retired weaver from Esther Mill, where he worked for 42 years. He was a member of the Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Shanghai Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son - in - law, Bobby Prine.
He is survived by his wife, Mallie Tessneer Norville of Shelby; two daughters and one son - in - law, Joyce N. and Bobby Self and Marilyn N. Prine, all of Shelby; one grandson, Greg Self and his wife, Sandy, of Grover; two granddaughters, Kim P. Peace and her husband, David, of Shelby and Polly P. Cline, and her husband, James, of Polkville; five great - grandsons, Joshua Aaron Self of Grover, Matthew Neil Cline, Jacob Flay Cline, Joshua Scott Cline and Jessie Cline, all of Polkville; four great - granddaughters, Brittney Michelle Self, Ashley Harrington and Kesha Harrington, all of Grover, Jennifer P. Peace of Shelby, and Tabatha P. Davis and her husband, Sam, of Lattimore; one brother, John Norville of Blacksburg, S.C.; and one sister, Mattie Brooks of Charlotte.
The graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Revs. David Fambrough and Bill Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights, Shelby, NC 28150; or Hoyle Memorial Methodist Church Building Fund, 1741 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150.

Dorothy Mae Littlejohn
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Dorothy Mae Littlejohn, 62, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at her home.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Kings Mountain with the Rev. Clinton A. Feemster officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and other times at the home of Marion Littlejohn at 338 Ebenezer Road in Kings Mountain.
J.W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Roberts
SHELBY - Miss Annie Laura Roberts, 86, of Somerset Court, died May 15, 2001, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Annie Spake Roberts. She retired after 36 years at Duke Power Co. in Charlotte. She was a member at Elizabeth Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 12 - year - old girls and she was a member of the W.M.U. She was a former member of the Virginia Asher Bible Class in Charlotte. She graduated from Boiling Springs Junior College and Appalachian State Teachers College.
She is survived by a brother and sister - in - law, John and Helen Roberts of Greenville, S.C.; two sisters, Irene Blanton of Shelby and Bonnie Price of Boiling Springs; four nephews, David Blanton of Taiwan, Wayne Roberts of Lexington, S.C., Mark Roberts of Greer, S.C., and Glenn Roberts of Greenville; four nieces, Mary Ann Lineberger of Shelby, and Jonna Hamrick, Jill Gibbs and Julie Freeman, all of Greenville; and 12 great - nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Jordan and Cline Borders officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Irene Blanton at 220 N. Post Road in Shelby.
Memorials can be made to Elizabeth Baptist Church Mission Fund, 301 N. Post Road, Shelby, NC 28152; or Hospice at Wendover, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

John McCree
FAIRMONT - Mr. John W. McCree, 68, of 504 Market St., died Monday, March 14, 2001, at a Lumberton hospital.
The son of the late James and Daisy McCree, he was a member of Long Branch First Baptist Church. He was a member of Star Lodge No. 5 and owner of Community Funeral Home in Fairmont. He was an Army veteran.
He is survived by two brothers, James McCree of Kings Mountain and Frank McCree of Fairmont; two sisters, Ollie V. Lowery and Daisy B. Willis both of Kings Mountain; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at noon at Long Branch First Baptist Church, Grover, with the Rev. Larry Dixon officiating. Burial will be the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral at the church.
Community Funeral Home, Fairmont, and J.W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, are in charge of arrangements.

Vesta Miller
SEAGOVILLE, Texas - Mrs. Vesta Paysour Miller, 65, of 107 Belinsday Cove, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Medical Center of Mesquite in Mesquite, Texas.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Stamey - Cherryville Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Laws officiating. Burial will be in the Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery in Dallas, N.C.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times of the family will be at the home of a sister, Diane Zeigler, 5025 Crouse Road in Crouse.

James Bundy
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. James Martin Bundy, 22, of 101 Cenco Drive, died Sunday, May 13, 2001.
The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. at McKendree United Methodist Church with the Revs. Duval Mason, Mike Criswell and J.R. Robbins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday night at Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton.

'Bill' Spangler
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Mr. William A. "Bill" Spangler, 78, of Fort Lauderdale, died Saturday, May 12, 2001.
A native of Shelby, he was the son of the late William A. and Essie Cline Spangler. He moved to South Florida in 1948. He was a Navy veteran and was a three - time Golden Glove Winner. Billy "The Shelby Kid" boxed professionally for several years. He was a member of Carpenter's Union 125 and the Moose Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Ruby Anson, Thelma Gantt, Willie Mae Cady, Aileen Kohlepp and Delia Callahan; and two brothers, Jerome Spangler and Jack Spangler.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ellen; two daughters and sons - in - law, Sandra and Andre Decarie of Royersford, Pa., and Arlene and John Everett of Davie, Fla.; four grandchildren, Daniel Decarie, Linette Decarie, Taylor Everett and Megan Everett; and one brother, Walter "Gene" Spangler.
T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home of Plantation, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Ford
BOSTIC - Mr. Earl Ford, 59, of Bostic, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at his home on Mount Lebanon Church Road.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Washburn and Dorsey Funeral Home.

Mary Harrill
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Byers Harrill, 92, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at the center.
A native of Meck - lenburg County, she was the daughter of the late John Wilburn and Lilly Austell Byers. She retired as office manager of Security Insurance Agency at First National Bank of Shelby. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Black Harrill; one son, Jay Black Harrill Jr.; and one sister, Agnes Byers Loving.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary H. Cooper of Gastonia; one brother, John Wilburn Byers Jr. of Charlotte; three grandchildren; and three great - grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. Gene Watterson officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28150.
Palmer Mortuary of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.

Cornell Wilson
GROVER - Mr. Cornell Wilson, 100, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by J. W. Gill & Sons Funeral Home.

Curtis Gilstrap
RUTHERFORDTON - The Rev. J. Curtis Gilstrap, 72, of Rutherfordton, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Spartanburg (S.C.) Regional Medical Center.
A native of Greenville County, S.C., he was the son of the late John Henry and Nancy Katherine Thompson Gilstrap. He was a Baptist minister who had served churches in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. He also served as a volunteer chaplain for Rutherford Hospital and was a member of Montford Cove Baptist Church in Union Mills.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Smith Gilstrap of the home; one son and daughter - in - law, Stan and Sharon Gilstrap of Inman, S.C.; one daughter and son - in - law, Becky and Dana Querim of Moore, S.C.; one granddaughter, Jennifer Gilstrap of Inman, S.C.; two sisters, Frances Snow of Lyman, S.C., and Marion Smith of Greenville; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church in Boiling Springs, S.C., with the Revs. Bobby Gettys, Joe Seay, Marvin Greene and Earl Waters officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens in Boiling Springs, S.C.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at Crowe's Mortuary in Rutherfordton.
Memorials may be made to Boiling Springs First Baptist Church or to Montford Cove Baptist Church.

Edward Branton
SHELBY - Mr. Edward Everette Branton, 92, of 1516 Marlwood Drive, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born June 4, 1908, the son of the late Edward Everette and Theda Allen Branton. He was co - founder and past president of Dedmon's Concrete. He was a member of Ross Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Gaynelle Peeler Branton; and three sisters, Clevie B. Roberts, Ola B. Dedmon and Letha A. Weathers.
He is survived by two sons and daughters - in - law, Robert and Jane Branton and Tom and Sara Branton, all of Shelby; two daughters and sons - in - law, Gaynelle "Gay" and Bob Grimes of Wendell and Carolyn and James Spangler of Shelby; one sister, Selma B. Crawley of Shelby; nine grandchildren; and nine great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ross Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Scottie Burkhalter and the Rev. Gene Daggerhart officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Rose Hill after the service and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Doris Martin
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Doris Sisk Martin, 49, of 400 Tate Terrace, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The memorial service is today at 3 p.m. at Oak View Baptist Church with the Revs. Jamey Billings and Robbie Moore officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall one hour before the service.

Thelma Fisher
BOSTIC - Mrs. Thelma Walker Fisher, 80, formerly of Bostic, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at McDowell Hospital in Marion.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at First Broad Baptist Church with the Revs. Lonnie Evans Jr. and Charles Battle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen.

Thomas Sealey
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Mr. Thomas B. Sealey, 77, formerly of Shelby, died Monday, April 30, 2001.
He was a son of the late William Thomas and Madge DeVine Sealey. Retired from the Marine Corps, he served as guard to the President. He fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, including the battles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Peleiu, Okinawa, Inchon Landing and Chosin Reservoir, earning five Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and other medals.
He is survived by his wife, Margena O'Daniel Sealey; three brothers and sisters - in - law, Roger and Thelma Sealey, Andy and Sally Sealey and Juel and Juanita Sealey; six daughters and three sons - in - law, Philomena Sealey and S. Steven Moss, Kim Sealey, Gizelle Sealey and Michael W. Greene of Shelby, Katrina Sealey, Tammy Sealey and Gina Sealey and Rob Schrage; two sons and daughters - in - law, Thomas B. II and Robin Sealey and Robert R. and Malena Sealey; 14 grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren.
He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery Tuesday at 11 a.m. The service will be conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps with full military honors.
Wages & Sons Funeral Homes, Stone Mountain Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Nellie Crotts
SHELBY - Mrs. Nellie Grace Jenkins Crotts, 98, of 1749 New House Road, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
Born in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late David William and Sara Jane Wolfe Jenkins. She was a homemaker and belonged to Sandy Plains Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member and taught Sunday school for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Crotts; three brothers, George Jenkins, Frank Jenkins and Laudice Jenkins; and four sisters, Mary Melton, Vickie Parton, Minnie Wilson Willis and Ola Jenkins.
She is survived by two sons and daughters - in - law, Ralph and Jean Crotts and Gene and Jerry Crotts, all of Shelby; a daughter and her former husband, Betty Sue Ledford and Walt Ledford, both of Shelby; nine grandchildren, Ed Crotts of Rutherfordton, Gary Crotts of Boiling Springs, S.C., Rick Crotts of Shelby, Nancy Eaker of Bessemer City, and Denise Jones, Cathy Romines, Sandy Gilleland, Steve Ledford and Scott Ledford, all of the Shelby area; and nine great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Sandy Plains Baptist Church, with Dr. Don McSwain officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Ralph and Jean Crotts, 1757 New House Road, Shelby.
Cleveland Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

John Bradley
BOSTIC - Mr. John Robert Bradley, 40, of 1668 Golden Valley Church Road, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Lincoln Medical Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Crowe's Funeral Home, Rutherfordton, with the Rev. John Ware officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Merle Bumgarner
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Merle G. Bumgarner, 67, of 531 Roy Eaker Road, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
