Cornelia McGinnis
SHELBY - Mrs. Cornelia Ann Simmons McGinnis, 75, of Shelby, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Meade Murphy and Estell Walker Simmons. She was a retired licensed practical nurse.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, William B. McGinnis, Richard "Buster" Ledbetter and Allen Malphrus.
Surviving are a son, James Simmons Malphrus and wife, Robin, of Smithfield; a daughter, Cynthia Ann Ledbetter of Shelby; a brother, Howard Walker Simmons of Morganton; a sister, Rachel Simmons Hill of Franklin; a nephew, David Simmons Hill; a grandson, Walker Simmons Malphrus; and her beloved Hannah.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Cindy Ledbetter, 371 Magness Road in Shelby.
Memorials may be made to Cleveland Memorial Library, 104 Howie Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Juanita Rinck
HICKORY - Mrs. Juanita Gantt Rinck, 73, of River Road, formerly of Belwood, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Eure Lee and Addie Underwood Gantt. She was retired from Fallon Hosiery Mill and was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Daisey Lowman.
Surviving are her husband, Henry Lee Rinck of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Doris) Withers of Statesville and Mrs. Frankie (Patricia) Yoder of Hickory; two sons, Dale Rinck and Dennis Lawter, both of Hickory; a sister, Cordilia Klutz of Hickory; a brother, Eure Gantt Jr. of Belwood; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. David Schrum officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Knob Creek Methodist Church Cemetery in Belwood.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Withers, Steve Wray, Jimmy Rinck, Scott Rinck, Tracy Yoder and Neil Yoder.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Hickory Funeral Home.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at Foursquare Gospel Light Tabernacle, with the Rev. Ricky Poteat officiating. Burial will follow in High Shoal Baptist Church Cemetery.

HENRIETTA - Ms. Jannit Lee Roberts, 61, of 1671 Old Henrietta Road, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Bethel Independent Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Wallace Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery in the Doggett Community.

MOORESBORO - Timothy Daryl Small, 15, of Mooresboro, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at his home.

FOREST CITY - Mr. Willie "Grady" Stowers, 61, of 468 E. Main St., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Thompson Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Washburn officiating. Burial will follow at True Vine Pentecostal Church Cemetery in the Doggett Grove Community of Forest City.

Anna Zeltwanger
SHELBY - Mrs. Anna Katharyn Neely Zeltwanger, 77, of 950 Hardin Drive, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999 at Linville Manor.
A native of Venango Co., Pa., she was a retired data entry coordinator with the Welch Company in Westfield, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Willis J. and Isabell Maude Heckathorn Neely.
She is survived by one son, Shawn K. McNeely of Shelby; one daughter, Deborah A. Baker of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Sean Bradley Baker, Erin Marie Baker and Terri Marie Avery, and three great grandsons, Jordan, Wilford and Nicholas Avery.

HENRIETTA - Mr. Ray Alexander, 76, of 1663 Harris-Henrietta Road, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Spartanburg, S.C., Regional Medical Center.
Born in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late William P. and Lillie Whitesides Alexander. He was a retired textile worker and a member of Goodes Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Turner Alexander of the home; three sons, Forest Ray Alexander of Greenwood, S.C., Jackie Alexander of Henrietta and Kenneth Alexander of Sandy Mush; two daughters, Barbara Haigler and Ann Russ, both of Shelby; a brother, Max Alexander of Forest City; four sisters, Sara Hamrick of Cliffside, Betty Jones of Baltimore, Md., Carrie Pearson of Forest City and Ethel Propst of Shelby; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held for the family at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Cecil Lovelace officiating.

John Friday Sr.
DALLAS, N.C. - Mr. John Russell Friday Sr., 78, of 843 High Shoals Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Alexandria Place in Gastonia.
A native of Gaston County, he was born on May 3, 1921, the son of the late Theodore O. and Beulah Carpenter Friday. He was retired from Homelite Corp., where he was a welder. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. He was a Navy veteran who served in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Bessie Herman.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathy and Jim Holland of Shelby, Nancy and Hoyt Cope of Lincolnton and Gail Clark of Gastonia; one son, John Russell Friday Jr. of Landrum, S.C.; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Armour officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at Dallas Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

SHELBY - Mrs. Janie Minnie Robinson Wray, 80, of 152 Thamon Road, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Roseboro officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends Friday 30 minutes before the service at the church and other times at 507 Dover St., Shelby.

Ruby Scruggs
FOREST CITY - Ruby Barrs Scruggs, 82, of 243 Oakridge Drive, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at her home.
A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late William Lowman and Martha Cantrel Barrs. She retired from Sears Roebuck Co. in 1982. She was a member of Florence Baptist Church, Hope Sunday School Class and a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the adult choir. She was a volunteer for Relay for Life of the American Cancer Society and Yokefellow and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her husband, Lawton Scruggs of the home; two sons, William A. Scruggs of Kings Mountain and Paul Stephen Scruggs of Madison; three daughters, Lonice S. Cooper of Shelby, Terry S. Munsey of Forest City and Suzy S. Guffey of Brevard; two sisters, Mamie B. Hamrick and Buddie S. Edwards, both of Forest City; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Florence Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Gantt officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The body will remain at Padgett and King Mortuary until it is placed in the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Hillard T. Huffstetler
WACO - Hillard T. "Lawn Mower Man" Huffstetler, 81, of 312 S. Main St., died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Lincoln Medical Center in Lincolnton.
A native of Lincoln County, he was born Feb. 3, 1920. He was the owner of Lawn Mower Repairs and was a retired driver for Carolina Freight Carriers in Cherryville. He was a member of Mount Beulah Baptist Church in Bessemer City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Flossie Carpenter Huffstetler; his first wife, Jane Dellinger Huffstetler; a brother, Flay Huffstetler; and a sister, Hazelene Champman.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Tate Huffstetler of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Elaine Huffstetler of Lattimore and Jeff and Debora Huffstetler of Waco; three daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra Jones of Waco, Lynn and Phill Carreker of Locust Grove, Ga., and Dianne Heavner and her fiancé, Don Parris, of Dallas; three stepsons, Troy Tate of Cherryville, Jerry Tate of Lincolnton and Dean Tate of Harrisburg.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mount Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Jackie Price and Fred Helms officiating.
Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville.
The family will receive friends at Carpenter's Funeral Home tonight from 6 to 8.

RUTHERFORDTON - Ruth Wacaster Toms, 84, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at her home.

'Jim' Yarbro
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Lee "Jim" Yarbro, 76, of 820 Bethlehem Church Road, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Fitchue Lee Sr. and Ethel Blalock Yarbro. He was a poultry farmer and a member of the Cleveland County Poultry Council. He was inducted into the Cleveland County Poultry Council Hall of Fame in 1999. He was a longtime member of the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, former treasurer, teacher and served on other committees. He served in the Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Lee Blackburn Yarbro of Kings Mountain; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Stanley and Dr. Lee Yarbro of San Jose, Calif., and Leslie and Lisa Yarbro of Grover; a daughter, Cheryle Beatty of Kings Mountain; a brother and a sister-in-law, Ned and Scottie Yarbro of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Sephanie Yarbro, Josh Hollifield and Dustin Yarbro.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Revs. David Blanton, Russel Fitts and Ed Sesson officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain.

Burial will be in Hinton Memorial United Methodist Church cemetery.

Scott Hamrick
SHELBY - Mr. Scott Hamrick, 34, of 3110 McKinney Road, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Carteret Medical Center in Morehead City.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of David G. and Aileen Daves Hamrick of Shelby. He was a graduate of Crest High School and UNC Charlotte. He was employed by Turner Trucking Co. in Boiling Springs and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiancée, Lisa Kale of Shelby; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Phyllis and Mike Hill of Ronda and Kathy McCoy of Shelby; two nieces, Stephanie Hill and Heather McCoy; one nephew, Shane Hill; and his fiancée's daughters, Ashley Hubbard and Amber Hubbard.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. David A. Irish officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside.

Hoyt Pittillo
BOSTIC - Mr. Hoyt Lee Pittillo, 69, of Bostic Sunshine Highway, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Merritt and Mettie Stepp Pittillo. He was a member of the National Guard and was a member and elder at Brittain Presbyterian Church. He worked in sales and consulting in the textile industry and retired from Coats America.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Norville Pittillo; three sons, Steve Pittillo of Lawndale, Sam Pittillo of Shelby, and Mike Pittillo of Cherryville; one brother, Connell Pittillo of Morganton; three grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Brittain Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Brent Long officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.

SHELBY - Mrs. Barbara Jane Jeffries Miller, 63, of 2603 Shoal Creek Road, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late James and Annie Mae Hollis Jeffries. She was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the Adult Missionary Department. She was employed by PPG for 29 years as a lab technician and retired in 1995.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and one grandson.
She is survived by her husband, Willie Gordon Miller; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen Yvette and Montio Partlow of Hilton Head, S.C.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Willie G. Jr. and Phyllis Miller of Beaufort, S.C., Steve Wardell and Doris Miller and Jeffrey Maurice and Juanita Miller, all of Shelby; one brother, Robert "Gene" Jeffries of Kings Mountain; one sister, Linda Ann Brooks of Shelby; 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; and other relatives.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Isaac officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.
