Minnie Grigg
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Minnie Norman Grigg, 97, of 209 Hicks Hill Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at PellCare of Hickory.
A native of Belwood, she was born on May 8, 1902, the daughter of the late Frank and Martha Queen Norman. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Palm Tree United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Sunset Sunday school class. She was a member of the Bliss Center/Senior Citizens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burgan Jones Grigg; four brothers; six sisters; and one son-in-law, Frank Lattimore.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Burgan Jones Grigg Jr. and Pat Grigg of Valenline; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pauline Lattimore of Shelby, Helen and J.L. Carroll and Myrtle and John M. Sparks, both of Lawndale; three granddaughters, Ann S. Lindsey and her husband, Toney, of Hickory, Marsha Carroll and Terri Wood and her husband, Dale, all of Newport News, Va.; and one grandson, Allen Sparks and his wife, Cathy of Shelby; two great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Palm Tree United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Scott officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Palm Tree United Methodist Church, 1157 W. Stage Coach Trail, Lawndale, N.C. 28090.

Margaret Bodenhamer
SHELBY - Mrs. Margaret Allen Bodenhamer, 91, of 4014 Lynn Circle, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late John Landrum and Everlena Allen Allen. She was a retired registered nurse, serving as a supervisor in the premature nursery at Los Angeles General Hospital for 32 years. She was a 1926 graduate of Shelby High School and received her registered nursing degree from Shelby Hospital Nursing School. She did her post graduate work in Los Angeles County in OB and pediatrics.
Mrs. Bodenhamer was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. She was active in the United Daughters of the Confederacy since 1936. While in UDC, she was president of the Southland Chapter, a member of the John H. Reagan Chapter, organized the William Wilson Allen Chapter, where she was first president, and organized the Allen Junior Chapter. She served as second vice president on the California Board and second vice president of the North Carolina Division. She also was a member of the Shelby Woman's Club and the Frances Homemakers Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Ray Bodenhamer; a brother, Landrum Jackson Allen; and five sisters, Mildred Allen Humphries, Jennie Dean Allen Bridges, Lucy Cora Williams, Eva Kate Ware and Libby Allen Patterson.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Allen Howell and Addie Allen Spangler, both of Shelby.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Elizabeth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Jordan officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Elizabeth Baptist Church, 301 N. Post Road, Shelby, N.C. 28152.

James Thomas
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. James B. Thomas, 84, of 421 N. Tracey St., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Longbranch First Bapitst Church, with the Rev. Larry Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
J.W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Benton Sr.
LUMBERTON - Mr. William Franklin Benton Sr. of Lumberton died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Benton of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, William Franklin Jr. and Renee' Benton of Lumberton; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail Benton and Johnnie Hagins of Lumberton; a brother, Johnny Benton Sr. of Gastonia; two sisters, Helen Townsend and Illa Mae Britt, both of Lumberton; and a granddaughter, Brittany Rae Hagins of Lumberton.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Floyd Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Floyd Mortuary and Crematory.

Mattie McMurray
SHELBY - Mrs. Mattie Bowman Blanton McMurray, 92, of Shelby, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Stamey Funeral Home.

Lucy Jones
SHELBY - Mrs. Lucy E. Jones, 74, of 116 Dover St., died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Withrow's Funeral Home.

Benjamin Thompson
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Benjamin Thompson of 209 Orr Terrace died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.

Jack Bennett
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Jack Donald Bennett, 66, of 915 Brookwood Drive, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at home.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery, with the Rev. Dale Swofford officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Nell McSwain
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Nell Wells McSwain, 79, of 101 Tara Terrace, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Whitney and Sallie Blalock Wells.
She is survived by her husband, Woodrow McSwain of Kings Mountain; three sons and daughters-in-law, James Woodrow McSwain of Essen, Germany, Dr. Donald Wells and Rachel McSwain of Shelby, and Larry Joe McSwain of Goose Creek, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Jane and Chip Rearick of South Bend, Ind.; two sisters, Lollie McDaniel and Sybil Sanders of Kings Mountain; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Eugene Poston officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Donice Newton
BOSTIC - Mrs. Donice Long Newton, 77, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

Ashley Cloyd
GASTONIA - Ashley Ann Cloyd, infant daughter of Todd and Stacey Cloyd of Gastonia, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital.
Survivors include a sister, Haley Cloyd of the home; and her grandparents, Frank and Eleanor Cloyd of Shelby and Elliott and Sharon Cooke of Charlotte.

Robbie Goforth
SPINDALE - Mrs. Robbie Goforth, 74, of 401 Poplar St., died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.

CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Lloyd Bumgarner, 70, of 204 Hephzibah Church Road, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at home.
The funeral is Monday at 3 p.m. at Anthony Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis E. Bean officiating. Burial will be at City Memorial Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Julius Smith
HICKORY - Mr. Julius Pinckney Smith, 88, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Halifax Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a retired agent from Equitable Life Insurance Co. He attended the University of Georgia, and was a member of Hickory Lions Club. He was an avid golfer and former member of the Lake Hickory Country Club. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H. Dixion and Pearl Weathers Smith; his wife, Susan Elizabeth Chappel Smith; and two brothers, Ned Smith and Dixion Smith Jr.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Chappell Smith Tarlton of Hickory; a sister, Pearl Smith Wells of Statesville; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, with the Revs. John Ferree and Thad Lineberger officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Catawba Valley, 262 Third Ave. NW, Hickory, N.C. 28601.

Jeanette Marable
SHELBY - Ms. Jeanette Banner Marable, 50, of 223 Lee St., died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A native of Cleveland County, she was retired from White Oak Manor, where she was a nurse's aide. She was a member of Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Maggie Watson Banner; and two brothers, Harry Banner Jr. and Nathaniel Banner.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Barry Marable, Scott and Denise Marable, and Jimmy Marable, all of Shelby; a daughter, Tandra Marable of Shelby; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Boyce Watson, Elmer Banner, and Robert L. and Jeanette Banner of Shelby; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Shelly B. Wright, Mary B. and Bobby Marable, all of Shelby, and Dorothy B. Rhodes of Glen Alpine; and five grandchildren, Jeremy Marable, Antionette Marable, Laturie Marable, Tovarous Marable and Michael Marable.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. A.A. Ponder officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends Monday for 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Joseph "Joe" Carroll III
SHELBY - Mr. Joseph "Joe" H. Carroll III, 65, of 913 Surrey Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Jr. and Carrie Lefler Carroll. He was a retired truck driver for PPG Industries. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was the bus driver for the Senior Adults at First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Men's Adult Sunday School Class. He was an Air Force veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Joey Carroll IV and an infant son.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cooke Carroll; one daughter-in-law and her husband, Tammy C. and Scott Trammel of Shelby; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Tom Gold of Shelby; two grandchildren, Jody and Kalan; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Canoy and the Revs. Bob Dills and Stan Webb officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30-8:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Joseph H. and Carolyn C. Carroll Nursing Scholarship, Gardner-Webb University, P.O. Box 997, Boiling Springs, N.C. 28017; Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150; or to the charity of the donor's choice.

SHELBY - James Dean Myers of 1209 Maple Springs Church Road died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A graveside service was today at 11 a.m. at Cool Springs Cemetery with the Rev. J.J. Powell officiating.
The family received friends after the service at the cemetery.

Luna Jo Huntley
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Luna Jo Martin Huntley, 72, of Poors Ford Road, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at her residence.
