SHELBY - Jay'Quan Sanchez Cunningham, infant son of Zoe Z. Spikes and Jackie "Jay" Cunningham Jr., of 907 Foxcroft Circle, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two grandmothers, Rose Marie Spikes and Eunice Mintz, both of Kingstown; two grandfathers, Joe E. Flack of Forest City and Jackie Cunningham Sr. of Cherryville; great-grandparents, Murrell and Sarah Spikes of Kingstown; two great-grandmothers, Nuell Boyce of Kingstown and Mary E. Cunningham of Falls Church, Va.; one great-great-grandmother, Marjorie Addison of Shelby; one brother, Raymond, of the home; one sister, Zakoya, of the home; five aunts, Angel, Cerria, Shannon and Iris, all of Kingstown, and Susan of Forest City; two uncles, Jamie of Florence, S.C., and Reggie of Forest City; 10 great-aunts; seven great-uncles; two special cousins, Ouan Boyce and Sanchez Spikes; and many relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at noon at Palmer Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Kingstown with the Rev. J.L. Smith officiating.
The family will be at 907B Foxcroft Circle.
Dockery's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. James "Arnold" Goodman
DURHAM - Dr. James "Arnold" Goodman, 71, of No. 4 Cat Tail Court, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church with the Revs. Greg Allison and J. Barry Goodman and Dr. Ernie Mills officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Bible Baptist Church, 2125 E. Geer St., and at other times at the residence.
Hudson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Henry Skipper
SHELBY - Mr. Henry Lynn Skipper, 72, of 1023 N. Post Road, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Mecklenburg County, he was born on Aug. 20, 1927, the son of the late Henry Lester and Bessie Griffin Skipper. He was retired from Carolina Freight where he was a truck driver. He was a member of the American Legion and Elizabeth Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Florence McSwain Skipper of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Henry Lynn Jr. and Rita Skipper of Haverton, Pa.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sandra and Garry Yven of Charlotte, Jill and Gerald Fay of Raleigh, Lisa and Patrick Fry of Mooresville and Linda Jane Skipper of Dallas, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry Joe and Sue Skipper of Charlotte and Luther Van and Joann Skipper of Lincolnton; one sister, Hazel Lee of Austell, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

CHERRYVILLE - Mr. T.E. McSwain, 78, of 111 Harrelson Road, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Carolina Care Center in Cherryville.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Wayne Key and Keith Love officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Tony and Debra McSwain, 305 Mill Road, Cherryville.

Bill Mauney Jr.
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Bill Jennings Mauney Jr., 42, of 311 S. Mountain St., died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Philip Deitz and Robert Redding officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Dorothy Gossett
COWPENS, S.C. - Mrs. Dorothy Louise Gossett, 69, of 5235 Old Georgia Highway, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Daniel Morgan Cemetery with the Revs. Hershel Hill and Leroy Shepherd officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of a daughter, 725 Draytonville Road, Gaffney, S.C.

Thomas Harry Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Thomas Howard Harry Sr., 77, of 1179 Bernard Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on Aug. 28, 1922, the son of the late Benjamin Audy and Bessie F. Howard Harry. He worked for Duke Power Company as a mill right. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Grover and a lifetime member of the Windjammers Motorcycle Club. He was a Navy veteran, who served in the Pacific in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, B.A. Harry and Don Harry; and one sister, Sadie McCarter.
He is survived by his wife, Norma B. Harry of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Butch and Cindy Harry of Blacksburg, S.C., and Randy Gladden of Shelby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Taffy H. and John Carpenter of Lawndale and Sheila and Rick Bess of Bessemer City; two brothers, Jake Harry of Sanford, Fla. and Phillip Harry of Surfside Beach, S.C.; one sister, Annette Woods of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at the chapel at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family received friends Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Carpenter, 5510 Fallston Road.

William "Bill" Hullender
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. William A. "Bill" Hullender, 76, of 502 Hawthorne Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Dr. John Sloan officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday one hour before the service at Harris Funeral Home.

Melvin Earley
ELLENBORO - Mr. Melvin Lee Early, 56, of 220 Bonanza St., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Edna Pinkard
MORGANTON - Mrs. Edna Ruth Pinkard, 93, of Morganton Long Term Care and formerly of Gastonia, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Grace Hospital in Morganton.
A graveside service was Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Vardeman
SHELBY - Mr. Robert Edwin Vardeman, 68, of 3011 Lake Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Covington, Ga., he was the son of the late Frank Burton and Lucille Blau Vardeman. He worked as an engineer for Milliken and Co. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was a Mason and a ham radio operator.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William G. Vardeman.
He is survived by his wife, Elouise A. Vardemon of the home; one son, Robert E. Vardemon Jr. of Lawndale; one daughter and son-in-law, Holli and Craig Goforth of Shelby; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Burt and Martha Vardeman of Atlanta, Johnny and Peggy Vardeman of Gainesville, Ga., and Betty Vardeman of Columbia, S.C.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Dr. Dolores Queen and Rev. Frank Vardeman officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday after the service at the Epworth Building of the church.
Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, N.C. 28152.

Violet Jones
SHELBY - Mrs. Violet Estelle Bowen Jones, 84, of 212 Webb Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Baptist Hospital in Columbia, S.C.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born on March 6, 1915, the daughter of the late Jesse North and Cora Allen Bowen. She was retired from Esther and Shelby mills. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Winfred Jones; two brothers, Herman Bowen and Mitchell Bowen; and one sister, Vergie Ledford.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bryson and Deanne Jones of Shelby; one daughter, Violet Rebecca Jones of Chester, S.C.; two sisters, Maladge Wellmon of Greer, S.C., and Linda Putnam of Shelby; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Double Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Brackett officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Bobby Cameron
FOREST CITY - Mr. Bobby Joe Cameron, 60, of 151 Bob Rollins Road, formerly of Lockhart, S.C., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Padgett & King Mortuary. A graveside service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lowrys, S.C., with the Rev. Chris Snellgrove officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home and Friday 30 minutes before the service at the home of a family member adjacent to the cemetery.

Betty Porter
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Betty Nix Porter, 67, of 166 Bridges Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at her residence.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Caroleen-Henrietta Cemetery.
The family received friends Wednesday at the funeral home.

Doris Pinson Owens
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Doris Pinson Owens, 74, of 100 Ola Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ken Faulkenbury officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Edna Mae Randall
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Edna Mae Randall, 98, of 110 E. Ballard St., died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Lincoln County Hospice.
The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Billy Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter's Funeral Home, and at other times will be at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Merlin Carpenter, 3022 Highway 150, Crouse.

Ethel Brooks
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Ethel Melton Brooks, 96, of 787 Pinehurst Road, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at White Oak Manor.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Ad Hopper and Dr. Kyle Fisher officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Timothy Brown Sr.
HICKORY - Mr. Timothy Brown Sr., 76, of 2520, 11th Ave., S.W., died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was born on Jan. 19, 1923, the son of the late Jake and Lillie McCluney Brown. He was a member of Morning Star First Baptist Church where he was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and the organizer of the Morning Star Chorus. He was retired from Plastic Packaging Inc. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of A&T State University in Greensboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Brown; one son, Kenneth Brown; and five brothers.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Virginia and William James and Shirley Mae Brown, all of Hickory; three sons, Wilbert Brown of Greensboro, Donnie Brown of the home and Timothy Brown Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Casper and Vennie Brown of Hickory, James Brown, Douglas Brown, Harrison Brown and Irene Brown, all of Shelby, and Majorie Brown of High Point; one sister, Azaree Brown of Shelby; one special niece, Rebecca Abernathy of Hickory; 15 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Morning Star First Baptist Church with the Rev. Webster E. Lytle officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 45 minutes before the service at the church.

Jean Tisdale
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Jean Greene Tisdale, 69, of 234 Church St., died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Howard Lee and Mattie Greene. She was a retired music teacher. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was the organist for more than 50 years, Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years, G.A. and Acteen leader for more than 20 years and a W.M.U. Director. She was a member of Ellenboro Women's Club, member and former state President of Rutherford County Home Extention Club, leader of 4H and pianist for East Rutherford High Chorus.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Tisdale of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas IV and Karen Tisdale of Ellenboro; two daughters and one son-in-law, Pamela Jean Tisdale and Gary McFarland of Jamestown and Cathy Tisdale Murray and her fiance, Bobby Smith of Ellenboro; seven grandchildren, Andrew Tisdale, Rebecca Tisdale, Elizabeth McFarland, Megan McFarland, Matthew Murray, Michaela Murray and Micah Murray; one brother, W.L. "Jack" Greene of Ellenboro; and one sister, Eleanor Hamrick of Gastonia.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Blackwood and the Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
