Frank Connor
MOORESVILLE - Mr. Frank David Connor, 90, of the Brian Center, formerly of West Sumter Street, Shelby, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
A native of Greenwood, S.C., he was the son of the late Jefferson McCants and Helen Mae Wells Connor. He worked at the Oakridge Atomic Lab as an electrical technician. In 1933 he opened Supreme Radio and T.V. In 1991 he retired. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he was a lifelong member of the Hoey Bible Class. He ran the sound system for the Cleveland County Fair since it began. He also ran the sound systems for the N.C. State Fair and the Southern States Expo in Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Raymer Connor; one brother, Lee D. Connor; and two sisters, Rachel Connor and May W. Connor.
He is survived by three daughters, Carol Connor Brendell of Sherills Ford, Judith L. Connor of Durham and Katherine Connor McKee of Shelby; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Jeff and Doris Connor of Shelby and Mrs. L.D. Connor of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Laura Brendell Kennedy, Carrie Brendell, Maggie Thomas England, Mattie T. McKee, Mark F. McKee and D. Andrew McKee; and five great-grandchildren, Michael W. Kennedy, Holly N. Kennedy, Grayson McKee, Bryson McKee and Carter McCants England.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Joe Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 200 E. Marion St., Shelby, N.C., 28150 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mamie Hamby
SHELBY - Ms. Mamie Elizabeth Hamby, 82, of 3333 Bridges Dairy Road, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Monroe County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Marcus Sylvester and Hattie Jump Hamby. She retired from Universal Manufacturing after 21 years of service. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Hamby and Cecil Hamby.
She is survived by one sister, Louella Pruitt of Shelby; two nephews; six nieces; nine great nieces and nephews; and three great-great nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Elena Pena, 66, of 312 Waco Road, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Christopher Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Jose Espinales officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. James Hood, 52, of 906 Church St., died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Blessed Assurance Church in Gastonia with the Revs. Keith Sanders and Keith Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday 30 minutes before the service at the church.

LAWNDALE - Mrs. Leunia Hudson Johnson, 77, of 203 Creekwood Road, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, she was born May 12, 1922, a daughter of the late Johnnie Lemmie and Barbara Jane Turner Hudson. She was a homemaker and a member of Hudson Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jessie McClure Johnson of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Eazell Whisnant of Lawndale; two brothers, Carl Hudson and Frank Hudson, both of Casar; and four sisters, Lula Mae Downs of Casar, Dorothy Piercy of Morganton, Muriel Hull of Valdese and Mary Sue Braddy of Vale. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Olive Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Hudson and Terrill Crump officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. A homemaker, she was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. She is survived by three nieces, Nevada Mack of Gastonia, Zenobia Degree of Kings Mountain and Carolyn Partlow of Bessemer City; three nephews, Franklin Jackson and Tommy Jackson of Gastonia and Carlos Jackson of Bessemer City; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Chambers of Kings Mountain. The funeral will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Withrow's Funeral Home in Kings Mountain. Burial will be in Vantine Cemetery in Bessemer City. Willie Fuller
HICKORY - Mr. Willie Albert Fuller, 68, of 2571 12th Avenue S.W., died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at Frye Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Albert and Lucinda Nivens Fuller. He served in the Marines and retired from Plastic Packaging Co. after 24 years. He was a member of Morning Star First Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and in the choir. He was a member of St. James Lodge No. 20, Free and Accepted Ancient York Rite Masons. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Brice, two brothers, Robert Lee Fuller and Elie Fuller, and a sister, Bertha Fuller. He is survived by his wife, Ola B. Douglas Fuller; two daughters, Betty England of Conover and Doris Fuller of Patterson, N.J.; a sister, Emma Lou Fuller; two brothers, Lloyd Fuller and Sammie Fuller; a sister-in-law, Tressie Fuller, all of Hickory; five granddaughters, Michelle McMillan and her husband Nate of Seattle, Wash., Yolanda Edwards and her husband Allen of Germany; Tonya England of the home; Tisha England of Aiken, S.C., and Andrena McDaniel of Patterson; three grandsons, Richard McClain of Riverdale, Md., Ferdy Fuller and Randy Fuller of Patterson; an aunt, Lorraine Rudisill of Hickory; an uncle, J.C. Fuller of Hickory; and 23 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Morning Star First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Webster E. Lytle officiating. Rev. Willie Norris
MOORESBORO - The Rev. Willie Ray Norris, 87, husband of Mrs. Hattie Moore Norris of 2431 Camp Creek Church Road, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Spartanburg County, S.C., he was the son of the late Washington and Maggie Oglesby Norris. He was a member and associate pastor of Mikes Creek Baptist Church for 50 years. He was a member of the Thickety Mountain Baptist Association, NAACP, and George H. White Masonic Lodge of Boiling Springs. He was employed at Duke Power Co. for 17 years and Daniels Construction Co. for 18. He was also a farmer. Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Willie Mae Norris of Westbury, N.Y.; a son, Edward Norris of Mooresboro; two sisters, Magaline Young of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Millie Jane Moore of Chesnee, S.C.; six grandchildren, one of them, Christopher Norris, raised in the home as a son; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mikes Creek Baptist Church, with Dr. S.M. Johnson and the Revs. L.C. Knuckles and Mardestine Manning officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home of Gaffney. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Mikes Creek Baptist Church. Active pallbearers will be the junior deacons and Willie Ellis Sr. Honorary flower bearers will be the ministers' wives. FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Stephanie Lynn Lowery Cavalier, 30, of 204 Pearch St., formerly of Shelby, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at her home. She was born Jan. 16, 1969, in Cleveland County. She was a dental hygienist and student at Methodist College in Fayetteville and was a member of the Church of God in Fayetteville. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Cavalier; her parents, Robert Mike Lowery Jr. and Dianne Lowrance Lee of Shelby; stepfather, John Lee of Surfside Beach, S.C., and stepmother, Vicki Hamrick Lowery of Shelby; a daughter, Brandi Johnson, and a son, Ray Steven Johnson Jr., both of Fayetteville; a half-brother, Mark Lee of Fayetteville; a stepbrother, Jeff Lee of Fort Mill, S.C.; a half-sister, Amy Bridges of Shelby; grandparents, Robert and Carolyn Lowery, Aileen Glenn and A.V. Lowrance, and a stepgrandmother, Sara Lowrance, all of Shelby. She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Palmer Glenn, great-grandparents Mr. And Mrs. Charles Reinhardt, and stepgrandparents, Melvin and Beatrice Hamrick. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with Dr. Bobby Ridge officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home, and at other times at the homes of Dianne Lee, 205 James Love School Road, Shelby, and Robert and Carolyn Lowery, 416 Franklin Avenue, Shelby.

Fred Sanders
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Fred Sanders, 85, of 1280 Westover Church Drive, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Rufus James and Flossie Ledford Sanders. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Howell Sanders. He was a retired carpenter and a member of First Baptist Church of Kings Mountain. He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Jack Cobb of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Boyd Sanders, Datha Sanders and Arshel Sanders; and a sister, Ruby S. Conner, all of Kings Mountain; two granddaughters and their husbands, Yolanda "Yogi" and Tim Williamson of Charlotte, and Sandra "Chubb" and Dr. Stephen "Steve" Baker of Kings Mountain; five great-grandchildren, Meridith Baker, Sam Baker, Caroline Baker, Trigg Williamson and Maelee Williamson. The funeral is today at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Kings Mountain, with Dr. John Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday night. CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Doffise Lee White, 84, of 1289 Shelby Highway, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at his home. Born Feb. 27, 1915, he was a son of the late John and Huldy Haynes White. He was a retired carpenter who had worked for Wayne Barrett Construction Co. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Cherryville, and was also a volunteer with Cherryville Area Ministries. He was preceded in death by an infant son, five brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Moss White; a son, Gary White of Banner Elk; a daughter, Rita M. White of Cherryville; two sisters, Barbara Payseur and Edith White, both of Cherryville; a grandson and his wife, Bryan and Jennifer Foster of Lawndale; a great-granddaughter, Allison Foster of Shelby; a nephew and his wife, Claude and Grace White of Hendersonville; and a number of other nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, with the Revs. Wayne Key and Jerry Lail officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. He was born in Enolea, S.C., the son of the late Ivory and Elizabeth Brockman Brewton. He was a retired farmer and a member of Jerusalem Church of God. He was preceded in death by one son, Ivory Brewton; two daughters, Velma Marie Brewton and Selma Gist; five brothers, Thomas Brewton, Forrest Brewton, Aaron Brewton, Jonas Brewton and Irvin Brewton; and three sisters, Ida Hatchett, Lillie Williams and Louise Paynes. He is survived by his wife, Norissa Petty Brewton; five sons, Earnest Brewton of Teaneck, N.J., John Brewton of Kingstown, Charles Brewton of Patterson, N.J., Willie Brewton of Shelby and Raymond Brewton of Lawndale; one daughter, Esther Mae Smith of Shelby; a sister, Annie Jean Brewton of Union, S.C., 29 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Jerusalem Church of God with the Rev. Thomas McCluney officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Lester Lee Hudson. He was formerly employed by Deviney Lumber Company where he was a forklift operator. He is survived by his mother, Mamie H. Hudson; one son, Ernest Hudson of Dysartville; one daughter, Donna Hudson of Morganton; five brothers, Clyde Hudson, Roy Hudson and Ray Hudson, all of Casar, Gene Hudson of Connelly Springs and Joe Hudson of Lawndale; two sisters, Erlene Chapman of Casar and Faye Harrison of Drexel; and a close friend, Janice Brown of Casar; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Sam Snyder, John Hudson and Keith Fulbright officiating.
