Lucy Sanders
KANNAPOLIS - Mrs. Lucy Emma Sanders, 94, of 9024 Cloverfield Drive, formerly of Shelby, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Genesis Elderly Care in Mooresville.
A native of Tyrol, Austria, she was the daughter of the late Albino and Anna Pedivana Gionto. She was retired from Leslie Fay Inc., where she worked as a seamstress. She was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church in Glenlyon, Pa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Roland Sanders.
She is survived by a son, Theodore Roland Sanders of Madison, Conn.; a daughter, Anne Sanders of Kannapolis; and two brothers, John Gionta of New Jersey and Quinto Gionta of Nanticoke, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the home of Johnny Dyer, 2040 Batchelor Road, Mooresboro.
Clay-Barnette Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jay Martin
SHELBY - Mr. Jack "Jay" Vee Martin, 78, of 128 Center St., Kings Mountain, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. before the service at the church in Kings Mountain.
Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Alexander
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Annie Sellers Alexander, 76, of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at the Brian Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Allen Sinclair officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday one hour before the service at Harris Funeral Home.

Hattie Harmon
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Hattie Bess Carpenter Harmon, 79, of 1401 Shelby Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born May 16, 1920, to the late Grover C. and Dicie Queen Carpenter. She was a homemaker. She was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church of Kings Mountain, where she was a member of the Morning Circle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Harmon; three brothers, Winifred Carpenter, Paul Carpenter and Hugh Carpenter; and a sister, Delphia C. Alexander.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jerry Spangler and C.V. Thornburg of Cherryville; two grandchildren, Bess Thornburg and Vee Thornburg and his wife, Melanie, all of Cherryville; and two great-grandchildren, Kaci Thornburg and Clay Thornburg, both of Cherryville.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at El Bethel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Bruce Hobson, Kelley R. Jones and Jack Cooke officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home in Cherryville and at the home of a daughter, Jerry Thornburg, 805 Hawthorne St., Cherryville.
Memorials may be made to El Bethel United Methodist Church, 122 El Bethel Road, Kings Mountain, N.C. 28086 or to the donor's choice.

Paul Wray
FAYETTEVILLE - Mr. Paul H. Wray, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at the North Carolina State Veteran's Nursing Home in Fayetteville.
A native of Woodlake, Calif., he was born in 1912 to the late David Lonzo and Rose Whisnant Wray. He was a lifelong resident of Shelby. He was a businessman until he retired. He was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church. He was a member of the local Masonic Temple and Shrine Club. He served in the Navy during World War II in the European Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Effie Propes and Lottie Wells Kale; a stepson, Flay Kale Jr.; two brothers, Walter Wray and James Wray; and two sisters, Sally Lancaster and Kittalee Allen.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David L. and Cheryl Wray of Wilmington and Brian P. and Brenda Wray of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, Holly Kale of Shelby, Nicole Wray of Brigantine, N.J., Heather Huberty and her husband, Paul, of Oxford, Pa. Keely Hesmer and her husband, Taylor, of Wilson, Nathan Wray and Lucas Wray, both of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Huberty and Haley Huberty, both of Oxford, Pa.; a brother, David Lonzo Wray Jr. of Raleigh; and two sisters, Hazel Stallings of Hickory and Dorothy Brougher of Orlando, Fla.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church in Shelby with the Rev. David Lohr officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Alma Rothell
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Mrs. Alma Philbeck Rothell, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Providence Hospital.
A native of Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Darcus Stockton Philbeck.
She was a nursing assistant with Hillcrest Nursing Home in Forest City. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Royce Cleveland Rothell, and a daughter, Carolyn Ann Claspill.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley R. and David Freeman of Columbia and Janice R. and James Humphries of Prosperity; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six sisters, Dorothy Harris and Martha Sasser, both of Columbia, Katherine Thompson of Tryon, Lillian Jamison and Pearl Costner, both of Shelby and Bertha Washburn of Columbia; and a brother, Claude Ray Philbeck of Shelby.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Shives Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in Columbia with the Rev. Mr. David K. Mc Guirk officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellenboro.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Christopher Clark
DENVER - Mr. Christopher Andre Clark, 23, of 2457 St. James Church Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Albert O. Perkins Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel at Ebony and White's Funeral Service.

Lillian Costner
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Lillian Trammell Costner, 68, of 4045 Devine Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Lillian Lee Wylie Trammell. She was retired from Carlton Yarn, where she was a spinner. She was a member of Plainsview Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters; and a brother-in-law.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Levi Costner; a son and his friend, Jerry Dale Costner and Susan Mayhew of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Ted Mauney of Kings Mountain; a brother and sister-in-law, Luther and Betty Trammell of Cherryville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Harold Hull of Vale and Mary Pope of Hickory; two grandsons, Dwayne Costner and his friend April Reese of Columbia, S.C., and Daniel Mauney of Kings Mountain; a granddaughter and her husband, Sherry and Tyler Jordan of Fallston; and a great-grandchild, Brittiany Costner of Fallston.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the chapel at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston with the Revs. Bill Ewing and Eddie Ingram officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Bobby Bumgardner
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Bobby Junior Bumgardner, 62, 1610 Rock Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Catawba County, he was born Dec. 28, 1937, to the late A.C. and Blanche Campbell Bumgardner. He was the owner of Bumgardner Used Cars and was a member of Oak Springs Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Vickers Bumgardner of Rutherfordton; a son, Jimmy Bumgardner of Rutherfordton; four sisters, Joann Bridges of Shelby, Brenda Toms of Rutherfordton, Carolyn Toms and Donnis Toms, both of Forest City; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, at Oak Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Hollifield and Tom Frady officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be at Oak Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crowe Funeral Home.

Alex Whitford
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Mr. Alex L. Whitford, 87, husband of Marie Dorman Whitford, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at a local hospital.
A native of Owens Ferry, Ga., he was the son of the late Francis Adelbert and Minette Greene Whitford. He graduated from Woodbine High School in 1930. He was a member of Cooper River Baptist Church. He retired from Gulf Oil Corp. as a supervisor in truck shipping and billing. He was in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Chevron Retirees.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy W. Price of Gainesville, Fla., and Brenda W. Neal of Blacksburg, S.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Cooper River Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Cooper River Baptist Church, 1059 Crawford St., North Charleston, S.C. 29405.

Frances Hord
SALISBURY - Mrs. Frances Idolene Lester Greene Hord, 87, of Autumn Care, formerly of Shelby Manor and Allison Drive, Shelby, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
A native of Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Jefferson Wright and Blanche Strickland Lester.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Mulls Memorial Baptist Church and was a former member of Shelby Women's Club, VFW Auxiliary and Home Extension Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Onnie M. Greene; her second husband, Lawrence R. Hord; a son, Lawrence Greene; and a brother, Perry Lester.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Phillips of Marietta, Ga., and Blanche and George Glover of Salisbury; a brother, Willard W. Lester of Forest City; two sisters, Ruth L. Grigg of Shelby and Minnie Barnes of Boiling Springs; five grandchildren, Tara Myers, Douglas Glover, Myra Burkhalter; Ann Hough and Robbie Smith; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Irvin Price officiating. Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Theodore "Ted" McClain
SHELBY - Mr. Theodore "Ted" McClain, 79, 820 Earl Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a retired maintenance worker for Bost Bakery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Anna Jackson McClain; a daughter, Sherry A. McClain; and one grandson, James Walter Mitchell Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Whitner McClain; three daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley A. McClain of Shelby, Rosetta M. and James Walter Mitchell Sr. of Mooresboro, and Edna Mitchell of Shelby; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas McClain, William E. McClain and his wife, Tasnee Littlejohn, Terry L. McClain, and Milton B. McClain, all of Shelby; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Genesis Funeral Service and Chapel with the Rev. Nathaniel Crosby officiating. Burial will be at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Hullon Griggs Sr.
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Hullon Griggs Sr., 74, of 338 Bridges Circle, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Genesis Funeral Service and Chapel.

Pauline S. Royster
SHELBY - Mrs. Pauline Smith Royster, 76, of 2725 Royster Road, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, she was a homemaker and self-taught cake decorator. She was a member of Fallston Baptist Church, where she taught Baptist Training Union.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas H. Smith and Mary Rhymer Smith, and two brothers, Roscoe Smith and Aaron Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Sherwin Royster of Shelby, a son and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Sherry Royster of Double Shoals; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and James W. Brown Jr. of Mount Ulla and Wynde and Lan Brady of Greensboro; one brother, Boyd Smith of Mount Holly; a grandson and his wife, Jamey and Melinda Brown of Mount Ulla; and five grandchildren, Kelli Brown of Mount Ulla, Lesley Royster and Thomas Royster of Double Shoals, and Lande Brady and Matthew Brady of Greensboro.
The funeral is Monday at 11 a.m. at Fallston Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scott Norton officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 6:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

SHELBY - Mr. Linwood Homesley, 83, of 1101 N. Morgan St., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

TITUSVILLE, Fla. - Mrs. Mildred W. Crawford, 75, of Titusville, Fla., formerly of Shelby, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Parrish Medical Center.

Jewell Reynolds
CONNELLY SPRINGS - Mrs. Jewell M. Reynolds died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
A native of Lincoln County, she was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles E. McCorkle.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Bill Reynolds; her mother, Viola C. McCorkle; two sons, Eddie Reynolds and Tony Reynolds; one daughter, Dale Ray; two brothers, C. E. McCorkle and Gary S. McCorkle; and six grandchildren, Ronnie Godbey, Ashley Godbey, Jamie Ray, Rachel Reynolds, Leah Reynolds and Jessica Reynolds.
The funeral will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Ron Baity and Dr. Edwin Taylor officiating.
