O.T. Carpenter
CASAR - Mr. Ottis Theadore Carpenter, 77, of P.O. Box 17, died Wednesday, August 4, 1999, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born the son of the late Ottis Theadore Sr. and Eula Warlick Carpenter. He was a retired farmer and owner and operator of Carpenter's Service Station for 39 years. He was a member of Casar Baptist Church where he was a church trustee, a member of the cemetery committee, a Sunday school secretary for more than 30 years, a former deacon and chairman of the Board of Deacons. He was a charter member of the Casar Fire Department where he was former treasurer and Fireman of the Year in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Self Carpenter, two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Carol Carpenter of Indian Trail and Larry Sr. and Nancy Carpenter of Casar; two sisters, Jackie Floyd of Lawndale and Elizabeth Downs of Mayodan; two granddaughters and their spouses, Susan and Kelly Hargett of Matthews and Rhonda and Mark Cassada of Hillsborough; two grandsons and their spouses, Dwayne and Marsha Carpenter of Waxhaw and Larry Jr. and Angie Carpenter of Casar; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Casar Baptist Church with the Revs. Fred Mauney and C.A. Kirby officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Lloyd Parks
WESTMORELAND, Va. - Mr. Lloyd G. Parks died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital.
A native of Greensboro, Ga., he was born on January 29, 1923, the son of the late Gertrude and Edmond Parks. He spent his younger years in Shelby where he was reared and educated. He was a World War II veteran and a welder at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for 33 years before he retired in 1982.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Stewart Parks.
He is survived by one brother, Hamilton Parks of Philadelphia; two sisters, Kattie Jackson of Philadelphia and Beulah Littlejohn of Shelby; two brother-in-laws, James Lee of Baltimore and Dallas Henderson of Farnham, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Inez Robb of Philadelphia, Helen Lee and Dorothy Newbill of Baltimore; a friend, Marie Lattimore of Baltimore; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Kinsale, Va., with the Rev. Claude Tate officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military honors by the United States Honor Guard.
Berry O. Waddy in Lancaster, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
Dockery's Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

L.C. "Izzy" Davis
FOREST CITY - Mr. L.C. "Izzy" Davis, 88, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. M.B. Morrow Jr. officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday at the church one hour before the service. Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Q.C. Randall Jr.
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Quince Cornelius Randall Jr., 76, of 104 Bess Circle, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 7 at Cherryville Funeral Home, and other times at the home of a son, 403 S. Elm St., Cherryville.

Jimmie Biggers
SHELBY - Mr. James Elliott "Jimmie" Biggers, 54, of 2107 Biggers Lake Road, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at VA Medical Center in Asheville.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a jeweler who retired in 1981 from Harold Elliott Jewelry and Bill Blanton Jewelry. He was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968, with an eight-month tour in Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lee Sr. and Margaret Elliott Biggers.
He is survived by wife, Anne Dellinger Biggers of the home; sons Jamie Biggers of Shelby and Jonathan Biggers of Nashville; daughter Caroline Biggers of Shelby; a brother, J.L. Biggers of Shelby; and a sister, Joan Putnam of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Patterson Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Waters officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Palmer Mortuary.

Bobby Lankford
SHELBY - Mr. Bobby Dean Lankford, 66, of 103 Lake St., Apt. 5, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Gastonia, he was a retired sheet metal worker from Miami, Fla., and was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 32 in North Miami, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Timothy and Ollie Mae Goins Lankford.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy S. Lankford; a daughter and son-in-law Deborah E. and Diego Perez of Hilaleah, Fla.; brother John D. Lankford of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sisters Joyce L. Short and Jean Lankford, both of Shelby; and grandchildren Christopher and Brian Perez.
The funeral will be Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Gazebo at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.

Clara Bartee
MOORESBORO - Mrs. Clara Louise Byers, 79, of 153 State Line Road, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at State Line Baptist Church, with Revs. John Godfrey and Chris Bryan officiating. Burial will be in Camp's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKinney Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside.

Ralph McNabb
FOREST CITY - Mr. Ralph Haynes "Buddy" McNabb, 57, of 148 Holland View, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Duke University Hospital.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Steve Chastain and William Stroud officiating. Burial will be in Sunset memorial Park in Forest City.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mary Beck
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Turner Beck, 92, of Hospice at Wendover, formerly of Sterling House and formerly of Graham, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Hospice.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a retired elementary school teacher who taught in Cleveland and Alamance Counties, was a member of First Baptist Church in Graham, was a former Sunday school teacher and WMU president, and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sanuel C. Beck; parents Forest and Lottie Hopper Turner; and brothers Ben F. Turner and Billy S. Turner.
She is survived by her brother, Hal L. Turner of Taylors, S.C.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Lutz-Austell Chapel, with the Rev. David Gordon and Dr. Don Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends an hour before the funeral at the funeral home.

Oscar Brown
SHELBY - Mr. Oscar Brown, 64, of 2610 Elizabeth Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Prebyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was retired for three years from custodial service after 24 years at the Cleveland County Law Enforcement Center. He was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Livie McLuney Brown,
He is survived by a special friend, Mary J. Stringer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Casper and Vennie Brown of Hickory and Timothy Brown of Hickory, James Brown, Douglas Brown and Harrison Brown, all of Shelby; a sister, Alaree Brown of Shelby; and a sister-in-law, Irene Brown of Shelby.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Maple Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eula Miller officiating. Burial will be at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends Monday for 30 minutes before the funeral at the church.
Dockery's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Blaine Dellinger
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Blaine Aderholdt Dellinger, 78, of 105 S. Mulberry St., died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Cherryville Funeral Home.

Clyde Dedmon
FOREST CITY - Mr. Clyde Rufus Dedmon, 68, of 121 C&S Circle, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at home.
A native of Lincoln County, he was the owner of C&S Mobile Home Park, former owner and promoter at Harris Speedway, and a charter member of Harris Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Yancey and Annie Mae Dillinger Dedmon.
He is survived by hiw wife, Sadie Lou Putnam Dedmon; son Jerry Dedmon of Forest City; daughters Linda Ravan of Harris, Sandra Yarbrough of Lexington and Donna Donigan of Moorpark, Calif.; brothers Esper Dedmon of Harris and Verge Dedmon of Forest City; sisters Mabel Spicer of Spindale and Edith Holcombe of Gaffney, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Harris Baptist Church, with the Revs. George Whitmire and Terry Roach officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Monday at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.

Arthur Walker
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. William Arthur Walker, 86, of Magnolia Drive, Morganton, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Britthaven Nursing Center in Morganton.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m.at Mountain Rest Cemetery, with the Rev. Harrison Hinson officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 at Harris Funeral Home.

Massie Smith
SHELBY - Mrs. Massie Bell Smith, 85, 205 Osborne St., died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe's Mortuary.

Oscar Brown
SHELBY - Mr. Oscar Brown, 64, of 2610 Elizabeth Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was retired for three years from custodial service after 24 years at the Cleveland County Law Enforcement Center. He was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Lillie McCluney Brown.
He is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Casper and Vennie Brown of Hickory and Timothy Brown of Hickory, James Brown, Douglas Brown and Harrison Brown, all of Shelby; a sister, Azaree Brown of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Irene Brown of Shelby; and a special friend, Mary J. Stringer.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Maple Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eula Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends today 30 minutes before the funeral at the church.

Tracy Hopper
LAWNDALE - Mr. Tracy Lamont Hopper, 20, of 113 Nolan Road, died Sunday, August 8, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Mobley's Mortuary and Chapel.

Miles Clark
BESSEMER CITY - Mr. Miles Rhyne Clark, 78, of 2501 Puett Chapel Road, died Sunday, August 8, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Hephzibah Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Donald Patchel officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the home of the son, "Tim" Clark, 334 Clark Drive, Bessemer City. The body also will be at Carpenter's Funeral Home tonight until 8:30.

Blaine "Bub" Dellinger
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Blaine Aderholdt "Bub" Dellinger, 78, of 105 S. Mulbery St., died Saturday, August 7, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Saint John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Collins officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday from 5 to 7 at Cherryville Funeral Home.

Lee Baker Jr.
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Lee Baker Jr., 69, of Route 3, died Sunday, August 8, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church with the Revs. Mitchell Pruitt and Jeff Glenn officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Ronald Stewart Sr.
STANLEY - Mr. Ronald Ray Stewart Sr., 52, of 305 W. Poplar St., died Saturday, August 7, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Rutherfordton, he was the son of the late Howard and Essie Collins Stewart. He was an insurance agent for American General Life Insurance Company in Charlotte. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by one son, John Howard Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, LaDonna Carpenter Stewart; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronald Ray Jr. and Wendy Jones Stewart of Shelby and Robert Smith of Gastonia; one stepson, Hilery Lackey of Lowesville; one stepdaughter, Lisa Lackey Byrd of Denver, N.C.; three brothers, Harold Stewart of Shelby, Larry Stewart of Charlotte and Gary Stewart of Atlanta; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley with the Rev. Mike Forrester officiating. Burial will follow at Friendly Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 150 in Maiden.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
