Frances Brown
SHELBY - Mrs. Frances Byers Brown, 83, of 1362 Sulphur Springs Church Road, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at White Oak Manor of Shelby.
Born June 11, 1916, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Chivous L. and Georgia Hardin Byers. She was a lifelong member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church and a member of the Serendipity Sunday school class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Summer Brown, who died on April 22, 1986; three brothers, Wilburn Byers, Crayton Byers and Chivous Byers; and three sisters, Delphia McMurry, Vashti Byers and Annie Putnam.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. "Rusty" and Jenny Brown of Shelby; one daughter, Patricia "Pat" Brown of Shelby; one grandson, Robby Brown and his wife, Heather; one granddaughter Susan Brown White and her husband, Chris; and a number of special nieces.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Shuford officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the church and at other times at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1073, Shelby, N.C. 28151.

Sarah Crockett
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Sarah Cross Crockett, 95, of Buffalo, N.Y., formerly of Kings Mountain, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000.
The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ernest Simon officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.
J.W. Gill & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Johnson
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Elizabeth Rainey Johnson, 90, of 605 Floyd St., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Longbranch First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

LAWNDALE - Mr. Frank Willard Champion, 62, of 113 Brownstone Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at his home.

Alder Hartman Ledbetter
FALLSTON - Mrs. Alder Hartman Ledbetter, 84, of Stamey Road, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Autumn Care of Drexel.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel "Dan" and Bulah Rachel Costner Hartman. She was a homemaker and a member of Plainsview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Wilson Ledbetter; one son, Dan Ledbetter; two infant daughters, Elizabeth Ann and Rachel Jane; one brother, Hulo Hartman; one sister, Ivey Smith; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Jim Ledbetter of Fallston; three daughters, Ruth Costner and Ann Pennington of Fallston and Beatrice Adams of Shelby; one brother, Loyd Hartman of Cherryville; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Ewing officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lois "Chid" Hubbard
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Lois "Chid" Brackett Hubbard, 77, of 336 Flat Rock Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Campbell and Vicie Eaker Brackett. She was a member of Kadesh United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Hubbard; a son-in-law, Larry D. Bingham; and her brother, Johnny Lee "Bud" Brackett.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Peeler Hubbard Sr.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carrol H. Bingham of Fallston and Vickie and Mel Beighley of Lawndale; one sister, Vinnie Waters of Casar; four granddaughters, Paula B. Peeler and her husband David, Ronda B. Peeler and her husband Phil, Iris C. Hubbard and Shannon Beighly; one grandson, Robby Hubbard; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Peeler, Katie Peeler and Adam Peeler.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kadesh United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Steve Kiser, Joe McMurry and Eddie Ingram officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Arnold "Nick" Anderson
SHELBY - Mr. Arnold "Nick" Anderson, 70, of 113 Delmar Road, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A native of Richmond County, S.C., he was the son of the late Arnold Nicholas Sr. and Ruby Meguatters Anderson. He was retired after 25 years at Hoechst-Celanese and worked part time at Woodbridge Golf Links. He attended Shelby First Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Cleveland County Senior Golf Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Scott Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma White Anderson; one son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Beth Anderson of Shelby; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Charles Vickers of Ellenboro; two nieces, Linda Cunningham and Shirley Bausmith; one nephew, Ricky Carr; one sister, Joyce A. Davis of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Haley Vickers, Alison Anderson, Nicholas Anderson and Tina Morris; and two great-grandchildren, Jay Stanley and Tyler Morris.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery, with the Rev. Ron Sigmon officiating.

The Rev. Rochelle Ingle
SHELBY - The Rev. Rochelle Ray Ingle, 81, of 1306 Earl Road, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Joel Forrest and Minnie Ford Ingle. He was a retired Baptist minister. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, assistant chaplain at Cleveland Regional Medical Center and former chaplain of prison ministry of Kings Mountain Baptist Association. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Wallace and Raye Ingle, and one sister, Beatrice Hamrick.
He is survived by his wife, Ollie Queen Ingle of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Russel and Kim Ingle of Sweetwater, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Dave Rising of Medina, Ohio, and Suzie and Doug Lager of Columbia, S.C.; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Roscoe Ingle and Bobby and Sandy Ingle of Shelby, Sonny and Effie Ingle of Miami and Ronnie and Laura Ingle of Columbia; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Hazel Wheelus of Shelby, Nell Bradley of Cleveland, Louise and Phil Parker of Prosperity, S.C., and Linda and Barry Schilling of Lexington, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Len Byers and Scott Carpenter officiating. Burial was at Cleveland Memorial Park.
Clay-Barnette Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Akeyson
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Akeyson, 87, of 2028 South Morgan St., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at her home.
Born in Holton, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Mary Jane Elder Dack. She retired from Neisners Brothers as a floor manager. She was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church and Daytime Friends at the Cleveland County Senior Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Esmond Edville Akeyson, and a daughter, Linda Diane Gaeta.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward William and Jo Akeyson of Irving, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Ken Timson of Shelby and Mary Jean and Max Stadie of Chandler, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service and other times at the home of Donna Timson, 2028 South Morgan St., Shelby.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Luvenia Gardner Lary, 71, of 256 Branchwood Circle, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by J.W. Gill & Sons Funeral Home.

Doris Gibson
SHELBY - Mrs. Doris Rigler Gibson, 78, of 1425 East Marion St., formerly of Clemson, S.C., died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Birmingham, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Charles Peyton and Ava Aileen Mayo Rigler. She was a homemaker and had lived in Clemson for 40 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of America. She was a first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II, serving in London and the United States.
Surviving are her husband, Pryce Byrd Gibson; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Connie Gibson of Penn Yan, N.Y., Steve and Judy Gibson of Shelby and Bill and Barbara Gibson of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jeff Jennings of Hendersonville; three brothers, Paul Rigler of Freeport, Texas, Charles Rigler of Taylors, S.C., and Donald Rigler of Lake Charles, La.; four sisters, Adelaide Powell of Columbia, Miss., Frances Stewart of Suches, Ga., Helen Sousley of Donnelly, Idaho, and Rebecca Holshouser of Blowing Rock; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral is today at 5 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Peter Waide officiating. Burial will follow in Herring Cemetery in Hartselle, Ala.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the service until 8 p.m.

Hoyle Edgerton Jr.
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Hoyle Harris Edgerton Jr., 46, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Freddy Hambright
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Frederick "Freddy" Dixon Hambright, 58, of 307 Maner Road, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late Claude Hoyte Hambright. He served in the Army Reserve. He retired from FMC Corp. in Kings Mountain. He was a member of Boyce Memorial ARP Church and the FMC Century Club.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Mullinax Hambright of Kings Mountain; a son, Charles Lowry "Chip" Hambright and his wife, Ansley, of Kings Mountain; his mother, Evelyn Pursley Hambright of Kings Mountain; and a sister, Jane Hambright Branton and her husband, Robert, of Shelby.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with the Revs. Doug Petersen and Roger Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Ronald "Cotton" Powell
POLKVILLE - Mr. Ronald "Cotton" Matthew Powell, 52, of 3612 Bridges Dairy Road, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Asheville.
Born in Cleveland County May 1, 1947, he was a son of the late Melvin Marvin and Annie Lou Clark Powell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a retired welder and a member of Union Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Powell.
He is survived by a son, Matthew Winkle of Anaheim, Calif.; a daughter, Candice Powell of Polkville; two brothers, Rodney Powell of Shelby and Robert Powell of Polkville; a sister, Donna Staymate of Fort Myers, Fla.; and a grandson, Jacob Winkle.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with Chaplain Melba Banks officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.

SHELBY - Mr. Jerry Lewis "Fuzz" McCluney, 47, of 1268 Airport Road, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at his home.
Born in Cleveland County Feb. 17, 1953, he was the son of Alice Lockhart McCluney.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve McCluney.
He is survived by a son, Jerome Scott and his wife, Crystal, of Shelby; two brothers, Larry McCluney and his wife, Sue, of Shelby and Ricky Lockhart of Baltimore; five sisters, Linda Johnson and her husband, Jimmy, of Queens, N.Y., Ruby Smith and her husband, Bernard, of Gaffney, S.C., Frances McCluney of Kings Mountain, Janice Abrams and her husband, Bobby, of Shelby, and Deborah McCluney of the home; two uncles, Eugene Lockhart and his wife, Lois, of Charlotte and Bobby Lockhart of Shelby; two aunts, Jacqueline Lockhart of Baltimore and Virginia Bell and her husband, Joe, of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral is today at noon at Faith Baptist Church in Shelby, with the Rev. Zeno Borders officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.
