Ernest Davis
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Ernest Davis, 82, of 277 Tribal Road, died Saturday, August 7, 1999, at Mary Black Hospital.
He was the son of the late Plato and Doshie Parker Davis. He was a member of Saint John United Methodist Church. He was a retired textile employee and a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Onie Mae McFarland Davis of the home; one son, Ernest Sebastin Davis of Duncan; one daughter, Margaret Ann Boone of Las Gatos, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Eveleen Keeter of Bessemer City and Thelma Deaton of Lowell.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Drs. Marneese Hampton and Bruce Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Eddie Mullinax, Bobby Davis, Randy Davis, Pete McFarland, Wayne McFarland and Faron Dale Sisk.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 277 Tribal Road, Blacksburg.

Tina Furr
ALBEMARLE - Mrs. Tina Louise Lambert Furr, 96, of 25888-A Millingport Road, died Sunday, August 8, 1999, at her residence.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.

Johnny Brooks Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Johnny Silas "Jake" Brooks Sr., 73, of 1310 Rainbow Drive, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Charlotte.
A native of Chase City, Va., he was retired from PPG Industries, where he was a mechanic. He was a member of Roberts Tabernacle CME Church, where he was a member of the Trustee Board, the Sunday School and was a former steward. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was an organizer of the Cleveland County chapter of the AMVETS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oddrey and Flossie London Brooks; five brothers, Leonard, Otis, Broadus and Curlee Brooks, and James Bell; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Jackson.
Surviving are his wife, Leedesia Gaines Brooks; three sons, Johnny S. Brooks Jr. of Shelby, Walter T. Brooks of Kingstown and Milton F. Brooks of Shelby; a daughter, Valerie B. Beam of the home; a grandson raised as a son, Lee Brooks of Marlton, N.J.; his father-in-law, Floyd Wilkins of Salisbury; six brothers-in-law, William McKinley Gaines and Milton S. Gaines of Charlotte, Abraham Colleton of Walterboro, S.C., Isaac Wilkins and Billy Wilkins of Salisbury and Al David of Granite Quarry; seven sisters-in-law, Lena Bell of Shelby, Mary C. Miller of Charlotte, Brenda Colleton of Walterboro, Martha Flemmings of Woodleaf, Clara Richardson and Annice Wilkins of Salisbury and Mary David of Granite Quarry; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Roberts Tabernacle CME Church, with the Rev. D.S. Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Kamahee Chambers
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Kamahee Kantrail Chambers, 9, of 612 Charles St., died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at 611 Gantt St. in Kings Mountain.
He attended Bethware Elementary School in Kings Mountain.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Elizabeth Chambers and Hannah Glover.
Surviving are his parents, Melissa Chambers of the home and Rodney D. Glover of Shelby; two sisters, Ebony Davis of Shelby and Kadeidra Miller of Kings Mountain; his grandparents, Robert and Vangie Ponder McDuffie of Fayetteville, Sarah and Gary Chambers of Gastonia and Ralph Glover of Shelby; his great-grandparents, Johnnie Sue Chambers, Jessie Adams and Connie Mae Davenport; special family and friends, Terry Chambers, Sheila Chambers, Shanna Moore, Walter Chambers, Maurice Chambers, David Chambers, Terrance Duncan, Whitney McKinney and Jamar Currence; four aunts; five uncles; and other friends and family.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Berean Baptist Church in Shelby, with the Rev. Mark A. Pritchett officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns.
Mobley's Mortuary and Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Bill Askew
BOSTIC - Mr. Bill Askew, 89, of Bostic, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, in Hamilton, N.Y.
A graveside funeral was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Shipp
GREENVILLE - Mr. Michael Eugene Shipp, 43, of 109 Thames Drive, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
He was a 1974 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and obtained his bachelor of arts degree in 1994 from Campbell University and a master of arts degree in public administration in 1995 from Webster University. He also served in the Marine Corps for 20 years.
Surviving are his parents, Howard and Kay Wells-Shipp; his wife, Martha B. Frank Shipp; a son, Gerald Shipp; two daughters, Tupee and Wachin Shipp; his grandmother, Geneva Wells; two sisters, Valerie Hunter and Cecelia Summer; a brother, Ronald Shipp; and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Life Christian Church in Kings Mountain, with the Rev. B.D. Houze officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Erwin Champion Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Erwin Wilson Champion Sr., 76, of 200 Cleveland Ave., died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at his home.
A Cleveland County native, he was a retired road supervisor with the oil department of the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, AMVETS, B.P.O.E., Moose Lodge, V.F.W., and the D.A.V. He was a member of the National Guard for 30 years and was a Mason.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving with the 12th Armored Division in the European Theatre. He was named a Permanent Master Sergeant and received the Bronze Star and Silver Star.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Addie Franklin and Lucille Poston Champion; his wife, Martha Frances Roberts Champion; a son, Jonathan Champion; and a grandson, Kirk Champion.
Surviving are four sons, Erwin Wilson Champion Jr. of Liberty, S.C., Phillip Kevin Champion, Samuel Mark Champion and Eric Franklin Champion, all of Shelby; a sister, Doris Cohorn of Smithfield; seven grandchildren, Kiley Champion, Jeremy Champion, Elizabeth Champion, Dale Alexander, Sonya Alexander, Katy Watson and James Watson; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Elizabeth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Brendle officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times, at the home.

Frances Wright
SHELBY - Mrs. Frances Bridges Wright, 76, of 3450 Fallston Road, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a housewife and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Plato and Lori Jones Bridges.
Surviving are her husband, Floyd Wray Wright, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Gary Kester of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a grandson and his wife, David Dwight and Robin Kester of Shelby; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Betty Bridges of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and G.C. Rogers of Shelby.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Russell Fitts officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times, at the home.

Cliff Dawson
SHELBY - Mr. Judge Junior "Cliff" Dawson, 76, of 240 W. Grover St., Apt. 8, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at his home.
The family will be at the home of Beatrice Barbee, 1639 Friendship Road in Shelby.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

Eunice Buchanan
GASTONIA - Mrs. Eunice Holcomb Buchanan, 89, of 119 Davis Park Road, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Pittman officiating. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hilda Mull
BOSTIC - Mrs. Hilda Mull, 79, of Bostic, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Golden Valley Missionary Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday night at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

Johnny Lawrence
DALE CITY, Va. - Mr. Johnny Frank Lawrence, 45, of Dale City, Va., died Friday, July 30, 1999.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Doris Oliver Short, 84, of 411 Chestnut Ridge Church Road, died Friday, July 31, 1999, at her home.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Family Worship Center, Church of God, with the Revs. Roger Woodard, James E. Allen and Kenneth Looney officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Jacqueline Thomas
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Jacqueline Webber Thomas, 60, of 1048 Mount Kisco St., died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at her home.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Westview Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.

Massie Smith
SHELBY - Mrs. Massie Bell Smith, 85, of 205 Osborne St., died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Lilesville, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Bennett Byrd. She was a member of Roberts Tabernacle CME Church where she served in the Missionary Society and on the Trustee Board. She was a member of the Mutual Christian Burial Aid Association No. 10.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ralph Franklin Smith; and one daughter, Loretta Smith.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Franklin and Elima Smith of Mooresboro; four stepsisters, Nancy Byrd, Louise Stanback, Sarah B. Ratliff and Annie B. Little, all of Wadesboro; one stepbrother, Willie Byrd of Wadesboro; one sister-in-law, Margaret Graham of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandsons, Ricardo Smith, Ralph III Smith, Donald K. Smith and Franklin Smith, all of Shelby; 11 great-grandchildren; and a friend of 54 years, Hester McKissick of Shelby.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Roberts Tabernacle CME Church with the Rev. D.S. Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends Thursday 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Billy Costner
SHELBY - Mr. Billy Dwight Costner, 66, of 715 Walker Drive, died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert Webb and Elizabeth Lail Costner. He was a painter for Garland Ridings Painting Co. He had served in the Army.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Flay Costner and Howard Lee Costner; and one sister, Helen Costner Grant.
He is survived by one brother, Leonard Costner of Shelby; a special nephew and niece and their children, Jeff and Carolyn Grant, Christie Grant, Casey Grant and Emily Grant; three nieces, Cherry Clark, Sandy Byrum and Gina Justice; and three nephews, Scott Costner, Robbie Costner and Donald Costner.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Len Byers officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at 709 Walker Drive, Shelby.

Virginia Sneed
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Virginia Myers Sneed, 68, of 1245 Lewis Farm Road, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at her residence.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Fite officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Bobby Goode
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Bobby Dean Goode, 61, of 910 Delview Road, died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert and Nellie Humphries Goode. He was a retired painter. He served in the Army. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by three sons, Billy Dean Goode of Aug.a, Ga., Bobby Eric "Duck" Goode of Cherryville and Garland Scott Goode of Ellenboro; three daughters, Cathy Conard of Polk County, Mary Ann Goode of Earl and Sherry Lynn Cogdell of Henrietta; two brothers, Donald Goode of Hickory and Kenneth Goode of Shelby; two sisters, Joann Hawkins of Shelby and Linda Mae Goode of Mooresboro; and 17 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Causby Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Nellie Tallent
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Nellie Ruth Beal Tallent, 76, of 203 Spinners Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Love officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Carpenter's Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son at Upchurch Mobile Home Park, 213 Marcus Drive, Cherryville.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Ingeborg Flindt Eaker, 62, of 5719 Cohn Eaker Road, died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at her residence.
