Rev. Woodrow Harris
DARLINGTON, S.C. - The Rev. Woodrow W. Harris, 86, of Bethea Baptist Retirement Community, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at his home.
The funeral was held Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Maple Baptist Church with Dr. M. Randall Jones and the Rev. Mark Howard officiating.
Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday, March 25, 2000 at Goldfinch Funeral Home.

Debra "Lisa" Ross
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Miss Debra Ann "Lisa" Ross, 32, of 718 Fourth St., died Sunday, March 26, 2000, in Gaffney.
A native of Charlotte, she was the daughter of Cliff Martin of Charlotte and the late Bessie Louise Ross Allen. She was employed by National Textiles and was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, she is survived by one son, Ontario D. Ross of Shelby; three daughters, Markela Q. Ross of Shelby, Waynesha Adams of Grover, and Fredericka Shippy of Gaffney; one brother, Gregory L. Young of Shelby; one sister, Donna Young Nanje of Shelby; two grandmothers, Dora Ross and Gwen Thompson, both of Shelby; her fiancé, Johnny Perkins of Grover; and a special friend, Sarah Camp of Gaffney.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Ramseur Baptist Church.
The body will be placed in the church two hours before the service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday 30 minutes before the service at the church and other times at the home of an aunt, Mary Ross Moore, 1104 Wilmouth St., Shelby.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Nang Himpaphanh
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Nang Himpaphanh, 79, of 110 Tara Terrace, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Luangprabang, Laos, she was a member of the Laos American Association and attended First Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Pheng Himpaphanh of Kings Mountain; two sons, Houmphann "Bay" Himpaphanh of Kings Mountain and Tim Himpaphanh of Texas; three daughters, Somchanh H. Sonvichipt and Bouaphanh Himpaphanh, and Bouavanh H. "Juanita" Sinnorai, all of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Thit Thongdee and Thao Pheng, both of Laos; a sister, Nangla of Laos; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Harris Funeral Home.

Roy Beason
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Roy Rush Beason, 86, of Charlotte, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born Jan. 27, 1914 in Cliffside, he was a son of the late Jonas Clinton Beason and Mary Tate Beason. He was retired after 36 years of service with Western and Southern Life Insurance Company, where he was a regional auditor. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a Sunday school class president.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Nelle P. Beason; a son, Roy R. "Buddy" Beason Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Merry Point, Va.; two daughters, Pat Boswell and her husband, Gene, of Charlotte, and Pam Keener and her husband, Sid, of Shelby; three grandchildren, Jason Boswell and his wife, Cheryl, Kevin Boswell and Heather Keener; and three sisters, Eunice Teasley, Nelle Ramsey and Flora Wynn, all of Cleveland County.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Boulevard in Charlotte, with the Rev. Stan Heiser officiating. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Harry and Bryant Co. Chapel, 500 Providence Road in Charlotte.
Memorials may be sent to Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, children's fund, 1117 South Boulevard, Charlotte, N.C. 28203.

Bobby Hoy
FOREST CITY - Mr. Bobby Lee Hoy, 72, of Forest City, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Mooresboro, with the Revs. Greg Qualls and Dwight Watts officiating. Entombment will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.

Maud McGill
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Maud Williams McGill, 90, of 300 Garrison Drive, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
The funeral is today at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, with the Rev. John Sloan officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor one hour before the service.
Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

David McSwain Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. David Carroll McSwain Sr., 62, of 2909 Poplar Circle, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 7, 1937, in Cleveland County, he was a son of Mary Genelia Wright McSwain of Shelby and the late David Hillard McSwain. He retired as a furnace technician with PPG Industries.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Patsy Jean Knight McSwain of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Rhonda McSwain of Shelby; one daughter, Kathy Jean McSwain of Shelby; and two brothers, Harold McSwain and Michael McSwain, both of Shelby; one sister, Gay Anthony of Kings Mountain; and one grandson, D.C. McSwain III of Shelby.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, with the Revs. Eddie Ingram and Jack Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home, and other times at the home.

Eileen Mullen
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Eileen Mullen, 79, of Battleforest Apartments, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, with the Rev. Harold Meeks officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home, and other times at the home of George and Sandra Smith, 319 Somerset Drive, Kings Mountain.

Myrtle Duncan
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Myrtle Lee Duncan, 77, of 1442 W. Cherokee St., died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral is today at 3 p.m. at East Gaffney Church of God in Gaffney, S.C., with the Rev. Nassar Alayi officiating. Burial will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service and other times at the home.

Mary Brogden
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Gray Brogden, 68, of 852 Ed Hamrick Road, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born Jan. 20, 1932 in Newport, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Beatrice Holt Gray. She was a homemaker, and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Bible Study Group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Francis Brogden; one son, Kenny Brogden; and three brothers, Clyde Gray, Bill Gray and Joe Gray.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gene "Buddy" Brogden of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Frank and Beth Brogden of Morganton and Andy and Raquel Brogden of Shelby; one daughter, Sharon Brogden of Lawndale; one brother, John Gray of Kings Mountain; one sister, Trula Bell of Mount Holly; and nine grandchildren, Brandi Brogden, Amy Santos, Sarah Brogden, Meloni Brogden, Joshua Brogden, Ricky Wallace, Miranda Brogden, Seth Brogden and Hannah Brogden.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Sessom officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6:30 to 8, and other times at the home of Andy and Raquel Brogden, 102 Haven Way, Cherryville.

J. D. Davis
BOILING SPRINGS - Mr. J. D. Davis, 81, of 113 Southern Pines Drive, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs.
Born June 5, 1918, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Will and Lillian Bowen Davis. He served during World War II in the Army's 100th Infantry Division. He retired from the Lily Mill shipping department, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Barrett Davis; one brother, Willie Davis; and four sisters, Lona Sisk, Nina Beaver, Grace Richards and Margie Humphries.
He is survived by one daughter, Wyline Davis of Boiling Springs; two brothers, Jessie Davis and Thurman Davis, both of Shelby; and one sister, Lizzie Tritt of Shelby.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Todd Bolin officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8, and other times at the home.

Modeine Ingram
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Modeine Nanney Ingram, 77, of South Blackstock Road, Spartanburg, S.C., formerly of Forest City, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Rehabilitation and Health Center of Gastonia.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cool Springs Cemetery, with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight at Padgett & King Mortuary from 7 to 8:30.

Joseph Smith
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Joseph Rivers Smith, 65, of 411 W. Gold Street, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at his home.
A native of Orlando, Fla., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. Gracen Smith. He was retired from Foust Textiles of Kings Mountain and the owner of Smith Real Estate. He was a member of Saint Matthews Lutheran Church, where he served as treasurer, council member, choir member and youth leader. He was a member of Kings Mountain Little Theater. He served on the Board of the Piedmont Boy Scout Council and the Kings Mountain Aging Program. He was the past chairman of the Kings Mountain Lake Authority. He was past president and a member of the Kings Mountain Rotary Club, the Kings Mountain Realtors Association, Kings Mountain Business and the Professional Association, Kings Mountain Jaycees, and of the Paul Harris Fellow Gaston Breakfast Club. He was a member of the Florida State Alumni Association, an instructor at Gaston College, co-grand marshall for Relay for Life in Kings Mountain, and a member of the Cleveland County Prostate Cancer Support Group. He served as a Specialist 1st Class in the Army.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy K. Smith of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Rivers Jr. and Angela Smith of Hendersonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jodi Smith and Mark McDaniel and Joni D. Smith and Chuck Wilson, all of Kings Mountain; one brother, S. Gracen Smith Jr. of Panama City; one sister, Martha C. Cook of Tallahassee; and five grandchildren, Josh McDaniel, Tyler McDaniel, Jennifer Smith-Wilson, Crystal Smith-Wilson and Heather Smith-Wilson.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Saint Matthews Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Dougherty officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Saint Matthews Lutheran Church, benevolent foundation, 201 N. Piedmont Avenue, Kings Mountain, N.C. 28086.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Vernon E. Smith, 66, of 702 Rhodes Avenue, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Kings Mountain Family Worship Center, Church of God with the Rev. Roger Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home and other times at the home of a daughter, Deborah Bumgardner, 906 Crescent Circle, Kings Mountain.

Grace Nickens
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Mrs. Grace L. Smith Nickens, 87, formerly of Boiling Springs, died Friday, March 24, 2000, in Louisville, Ky. She was a member of Van Buren Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Sue Wilson of Boiling Springs; one sister, Cora Micklick of Louisville; two brothers, Russell Smith of Louisville and Lewis Smith of Statesville; four grandchildren, Rebecca Locke of Lexington, Robin Wilson of Greensboro, Bruce Wilson of Shelby and Phyllis Von Ebers of Spokane, Wash.; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Monday, March 27, 2000, at Neurath Funeral Home in Louisville.
Burial followed at Cave Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday, March 26, 2000 at Neurath Funeral Home.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Shirley S. Lee, 82, of 105 Linda Drive, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born on Oct. 4, 1917, the daughter of the late France and Laura Pryor Short. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Lee.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Noah and Shelby Jean Canipe of Cherryville; two sisters, Alma Wood of Polkville and Lorene Hudson of Elkin; one brother, Buren Short of Cliffside; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Shumate officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
