James Loposay
BENSON - Mr. James Riley Loposay, 58, of 606 E. Morris Avenue, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Oasis Rest Home.
A native of Lee County, he was the son of the late James Riley Sr. and Mamie Kate Gilmore Loposay. He was employed by Faulk Drywall as an installer.
He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Linda Loposay of Wendall; and one sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Jonathan Hopkins of Waco.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with Don Loposay officiating.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the graveside and other times at the home of Patsy Hopkins, 190 Eaker Drive, Cherryville.
Clay-Barnette Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alma Dockery
SHELBY - Mrs. Alma Dwin Dockery, 88, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Hospital.
Born in Morristown, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Tobe Frank and Mamie Goins Dwin.
She attended Morristown Normal & Industrial College in Morristown. A Cleveland County Head Start advocate, she was active in the Cleveland County Mental Health Association, a member of Durham United Methodist Church, Durham United Methodist Women, Shelby Negro Women's Club, the Book Club, and a charter member of the Bridgette Club and the Piedmont Chapter of the Links Incorporated of America. She also taught school in Cleveland County for a number of years.
She is survived by her husband, Carl J. Dockery of Shelby; three sons, Carl J. "Chloe" Dockery of Shelby, Charles D. "Lea" of Davidson, and Paul E. "Gilda" Dockery of Charlotte; a sister, Janie Dwin Reid of Long Island, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Carl Dockery III of Shelby, Rosanna Dockery of Greensboro, Frederick Dockery of Charleston, S.C., Natasha Dockery of Chapel Hill, Carmen Dockery of New York, Paula Dockery of Charlotte, Melanie Dockery of the Bahamas, and Joey Dockery of Charlotte; three great-grandchildren, Takeeley Dockery of Shelby, Carlile Dockery and Charles Evans Dockery, both of Charleston, S.C.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Durham United Methodist Church and a quiet hour will be held an hour before the service.
Memorials may be made to Durham United Methodist Church, 301 Ross Grove Church Road, Shelby.
Dockery's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Stafford
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Hazel Thompson Stafford, 93, of 500-A Woodland Drive, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Harrison Hinson officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Harris Funeral Home.

Curtis Wray
LAWNDALE - Mr. Curtis Wray, 79, of Lawndale, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Oconee County, Ga., he was the son of the late Rev. Eddie Wray. He was in WWII. He was a retired truck driver with Over-Nite Delivery.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Kee Harris Wray.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Arie M. Wray; two brothers, James Nathaniel Wray and George Thomas Wray, both of Lawndale; and three sisters, Thelma W. Antoine and Lydia W. Hector, both of Lawndale, and Shirley W. Lacey of Layton, Utah.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lawndale First Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy D. Houze officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 to 8:30 at Lawndale First Baptist Church and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hector, 114 Cam Place, Lawndale.
Dockery's Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Georgia Pennington
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Georgia Gail Pennington, 47, of 202 Rodgers Street, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at her home.
A celebration of life service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at The Meeting Place in Blacksburg with the Revs. Rick Robinson and Lane Carter officiating.
Burial will follow in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at White Columns Funeral Service and at other times at the home.

Earle Wallace Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Earle C. Wallace, Sr., 79, of 1427 Red Road, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Clyde Dennis and Lillie Ledford Wallace. He was a retired self-employed landscaper and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Friendship Masonic Lodge #388 Eastern Star, and the N.C. Baptist Laymen's Association.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Queen Wallace of the home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Jerry Wallace of Charlotte, the Rev. Dan and Jean Wallace of Shelby, Earl, Jr. and Betty Wallace of Oak Island, and Dale and Carmen Wallace of Lincolnton; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Marlena W. Fuerstman of Jerusalem, Israel, Connie and Joe Wilson of Gaffney, S.C., Patti and Andy Suddreth of Lowesville, and Tonya W. and Bill Larnder of Columbus; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John L. Wallace of New Jersey, and Roy "Bud" and Chio Wallace of Texas; thirty-two grandchildren; and thirty-three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Wallace and Ken Jones officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Cleveland Funeral Services and at other times at the home of the Rev. Dan Wallace, 1050 Poplar Springs Church Road, Shelby.
Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 951 Wendover Heights, Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Coy Willard
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Coy Holland Willard, 69, of 634 Trisha Road, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at his home.
A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Lail officiating.
Greene Funeral Services, Westside Chapel in Gastonia, is is charge of arrangements.

Miles "M.F." Hoyle Jr.
LAWNDALE - Mr. Miles Fred "M.F." Hoyle, Jr., 75, of 226 Churchview Drive, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Miles F. and Inez Murray Hoyle Sr. He was a retired carpenter for A.A. Ramsey Construction and a farmer. He served in the Army in France and Germany during World War II and served in the American Theater. He received Eamet with four bronze service stars, the good conduct medal Go #2, and the Belgium Fourragere Victory Medal. He was a member of Palm Tree United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Charles Hoyle.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Clarice Reichard Hoyle of the home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Reggie A. Hoyle, Miles F. and Debra Hoyle III, Marvin H. and Kitty Hoyle, and Allen T. and Cindy Hoyle, all of Lawndale; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim Hoyle and John D. Laughlin of Lawndale; four brothers, David Hoyle of Forest City, Roger Hoyle of Lawndale, Everett "Speedy" Hoyle of Shelby, and Julius Hoyle of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Sally Pearson of Brooksville, Fla. and Edith Hoyle of Fallston; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Palm Tree United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Scott officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 226 Churchview Drive.

Robert Drewery
SHELBY - Mr. Robert Glenn Drewery, 45, of 926 Costner Road, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, the son of the late LeRoy and Mary Ruth Sweezy Drewery. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a graduate of North Shelby School in the class of 1977.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two nephews, Michael Drewery and Wesley Drewery.
He is survived by two uncles, Sam Drewery and Junior Drewery; two aunts, Maude Sisk and Alma Tipton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Norma Drewery of Kings Mountain and Roger and Faye Drewery of Shelby; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Mitchell McSwain of Shelby, Barbara and the Rev. John Bridges of Ellenboro, Brenda Truelove, Rita and Tony Hastings, Pat and Gene Spangler and Wanda Cooper, all of Shelby.
Eight nieces, Angie McSwain and Michelle McSwain, Lynn Drewery, Kim Upton, Dana Roderick, Melaine Rogers, Kelly Hastings and Beth Causby; and seven nephews, Todd Truelove and Travis Truelove, Bryan Spangler, Steven Spangler, Chris Philbeck, Rick Philbeck and Jason Causby.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 8 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Patsy Swanner
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Patty Ruth Smith Swanner, 60, of 519 N. Styers Street, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Lincoln Medical Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter's Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathan Grooms officiating.
Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Carpenter's Funeral Home.

Doris Smith
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Doris Jean Smith, 70, of 502 Holly Ridge Road, Mt. Paran Community, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Paran Baptist Church with the Revs. Dean Smith, Billy Sanders and Darrell Revels officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 to 8:30 at White Columns Funeral Service in Blacksburg and at other times at the home.
Church deacons will serve as pallbearers.

Lucy "Mutt" Williamson
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Lucy Mae "Mutt" Williamson, 68, of 1325 Eagle Ridge Drive, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Richmond Funeral Home Chapel in Charlotte. Burial will be at Beatties Ford Memorial Garden in Huntsville.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the chapel.

Jack Jennings
KINGSTOWN - Mr. Jack Matthew Jennings, 88, of 1509 Williamson Road, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at his home.
A native of Chesnee, S.C., he was the son of the late Martha Posey Jennings. He was employed at Brackett Construction Company as a carpenter for over thirty years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maggie Finney Jennings; one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Eva Jennings of Kingstown; one daughter, Jessie Mae Alston of Philadelphia; one sister, Amanda Hoey of Shelby; two grandchildren, Joyce Hester of Philadelphia and Christopher Alston of Cherryville; two great-granddaughters, Jessica Jennings of Charlotte and Clarissa Jennings of Shelby; and one great-great granddaughter, McKayla Jennings of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pentecostal Apostolic Church of Christ with the Bishop W.A. Mitchell officiating.
Burial will follow at Bethlehem Temple Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Fannie Butler
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Fannie Morehead Butler, 86, of 254 Edley Toney Road, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Woodlands Nursing Center of Rutherfordton.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Johnson Morehead. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her paernts, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Walter Butler.
She is survived by one son, Clyde Butler of Hazelhurst, Ga.; three daughters, Marjorie Toney of Newton, Gail Walker of Chesnee, S.C., and Carol Davis of Ellenboro; one brother, John C. Morehead of Bostic; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Toney officiating.
Burial will follow at Walls Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Harlen Canipe
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. - Mr. Harlen E. Canipe, 73, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, in Ocean Springs.
A native of Shelby, he was the son of the late Guy and Willie Canipe. He moved to Ocean Springs six years ago to live with his niece and nephew, Retha and Jim Cook.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Canipe and T.G. Canipe.
He is survived by two sisters, Gertrude Spicer of Ocean Springs and Ollie Capps of Shelby; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Ocean Springs Chapel.

Ezra Putnam
SHELBY - Mr. Ezra Lee Putnam, 82, of 1459 Mount Sinai Church Road, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Leo Ramseur and Ada Gertrude Weaver Putnam. He was retired from the bridge department of the North Carolina State Highway Department. He was a life-long member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Taft Putnam, Hythe Putnam, Crete Putnam, and E.J. Putnam; and three sisters, Oveida McKinney, Etha Hunt, and Peggy McKinney.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Ingle Putnam of the home; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Edna Jean Putnam of Boiling Springs and Willie Gertrude and Jack Robert Putnam of Shelby.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Sparks and Broadus Heatherly officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home.
