Gustavia Patterson
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Gustavia Leslie "Gussie" Patterson, 85, of 1102 York Road, died April 13, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of York County, S.C., she was born October 24, 1914, the daughter of the late Pearl Leslie. She was a member of the Adams Chapel AME Zion Church and was a licensed minister. She retired from West Elementary School in Kings Mountain in 1974.
In addition to her parent, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Patterson; one daughter, Lillie B. Dawkins; and one brother, Booker T. Leslie.
She is survived by three daughters, Zenobia Odems of the home, Leonia McCleary and Patricia Patterson Moore, both of Kings Mountain; three sons, Joe N. Odems of Gastonia, Lincoln D. Odems of Kings Mountain and Jhonell Odems of Providence, R.I.; two sisters, Loray Leslie of Kings Mountain and Annie Bell Thompson of Charlotte; 25 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and relatives.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Adams Chapel AME Zion Church with Dr. Pruella Kilgore Sanders officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Withrow's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ray Blanton
ELLENBORO - Mr. Ray Blanton, 39, of 135 Mimosa Lane, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Louis and Patsy Smith Blanton of Ellenboro. He was employed in the used car industry.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two brothers, Louis Blanton Jr. and Charles Blanton, both of Ellenboro; two sisters, Donna Lee of Whitmire, S.C. and Rebecca Guffey of Bostic.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Owen Duncan and Lee Causby Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jim Connolly III
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. James "Jim" Joseph Connolly, III, 52, of 6613 Hull Road, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
A memorial service will be tonight at 7 at Saint Luke's Episcopal Church in Lincolnton.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the church.

James Harrington
CONCORD - Mr. James Roy Harrington, 88, of the Brian Center, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at the Brian Center.
A native of Stanly County, he was born July 25, 1911, the son of the late Thomas J. and Cynthia E. Hatley Harrington. He was retired from the Army after 22 years of service. He worked with the V.A. Medical Center in Salisbury for 24 years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Harrington; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Ina Harrington of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Rosa H. McPhatter of Concord and Belzora H. Sasser of Indian Trail; one brother, Richard "Dick" Harrington of Concord; and one grandchild, Tori Beth Harrington.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Donald Dillard
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Donald Lee Dillard, 57, of 619 Paxton Drive, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Crowe Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Piney Ridge CME Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Joyce Hall
SHELBY - Mrs. Joyce Ann Boykins Hall, 57, of 903 Glendale St., died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in Shelby.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born on March 31, 1943, the daughter of the late Willie Boykins and Leona Bowden Boykins.
She was a member of Golden Ridge Baptist Church where she served on the Pastor's Aide Committee and Senior Missionary Circle. She was employed by Mark and Laura Cummings of Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Albert Lee Boykins.
She is survived by her husband, Willie James Hall of Shelby; one son, James Louis Boykins of Shelby; two daughters, Sherry Ann Barkins of the home and Debra Jean Hall of Waco; four grandchildren, Rashine A. Mosley of Forest City, Shauntona L. Tuft and Kendra I. Thompson of the home and Latesha T. Boykins of Shelby; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Willie Bell and James Hunt, Lena Mae Glenn, Ruth Lee and Bobby Brooks, Cynthia Ann and Floyd McShaw, Brenda Jean and Joe Glenn, all of Shelby, and Hettie Jean and Willie Culbreath of Falls Church, Va.; an uncle, Johnnie Boykins of Philadelphia; an aunt, Frances Davis of Lanhan, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Jackie (Airleen) Holmes and Emma Bostic; a mother-in-law, Emma McCleave and nieces, nephews, friends and two special children, Allison and Christopher Cummings of Shelby.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Golden Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Martin Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends a half hour before the service at the church.
Enloe Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Williams
SALUDA, S.C. - Mrs. Virginia Crawford Williams, 83, of Route 4, Box 393-W, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at her home.
A native of Madison, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Fred A. and Vannah Young Crawford. She was retired from Cleveland Cloth Mills. She attended First Baptist Church in Shelby and Eastside Baptist in Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Euell Crawford; and one sister, Nellie Ruth Byram.
She is survived by her husband, Max Robert Williams; one daughter, Noreita Virginia Burton of Newport News, Va.; one brother, Henry F. Crawford of Titusville, Fla.; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Minnie Belle Anthony of Kings Mountain, Christine and Glenn Smith and Kitty Minnix, all of Shelby and Janet Isul of Miami, Fla.; three grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home with the Rev. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 6:30 at the funeral home.

George Reinhardt
LINCOLNTON - Mr. George T. Reinhardt, 83, of 1518 Buck Oak Road, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at his residence.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Providence Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. G. Albert Enlow officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Ebony and White's Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Bowling
SHELBY - Mrs. Lois Jones Bowling, 81, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, formerly of 800 Blanton St., died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
Born April 5, 1919, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Elsie Wray Jones. She retired from the Bus Station Grill after 27 years as owner/operator. She was a member of New Bethel Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max "Bud" Bowling; three brothers, Flay Jones, Charles Jones and Fred Jones; three sisters, Nora Ledford, Lillian Beaver and Nellie Wray; and one grandson, Allan Watterson.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William Albert and Mary Anne Greene and Larry Don and Jean Greene, all of Shelby; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Richard Watterson of Shelby; one sister, Mozelle Self of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Kay Hoyle, Mike Greene, Cynthia Roberts, Carol Roberts, Diane Mintz, Robert Newton, Mark Greene and Misty Greene; 20 great-grandchildren, Chad Hoyle, Joshua Hoyle, Kristy Sawyer, Paul Greene, Brandon Roberts, Logan Roberts, Clarissa Roberts, Collette Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Jordan Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Kathy Blanchard, Hoyle Blanchard, Erica Blanchard, Rebecca Hoyle, Dustin Hoyle, Nicholas Greene, Kayla Newton, Danielle Newton and Karen Watterson.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Reed Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family received friends Sunday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of Betty Jo and Richard Watterson, 3006 Lake Drive, Shelby.
Memorials may be made to New Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 706 Hamrick St., Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Patricia Wilkinson
DALLAS - Mrs. Patricia Carpenter Wilkinson, 50, of 3412 Dallas-Cherryville Highway, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at her home.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Puett United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Allan Van Meter and Tony Jordon officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Carpenter's Funeral Home.

Walter Layton
FOREST CITY - Mr. Walter A. Layton, 76, of 159 Arlington St., died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Padgett & King Mortuary.

Tom Richard Sr.
CASAR - Mr. John Thomas Richard Sr., 57, of 218 Moriah School Road, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover.
The funeral service will be private.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.

Wilburn Nichols
EARL - Mrs. Wilburn M. Nichols, 88, of 2706 Bettis Road, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at White Oak Manor of Shelby.
Born Nov. 12, 1911, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Dave and Mattie Rippy Moss. She graduated from Shelby High School, and served as postmaster at Earl. She retired after 32 years with the U.S. Postal Department. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Martin Nichols, who died in 1958; and two sisters, Edna Moss Cade and Elizabeth Moss Borders.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Clifford Conley of Earl; two grandchildren, Wayne Martin Conley and Lisa Jayne Simpson and her husband, Gary; six great-grandchildren, Cayce Conley, Cale Conley, Mary Beth Conley, Nikki P. Moore and her husband, Wade, Nicholas Putnam and his wife, Tiffany, and Chase McDaniel; one great-great-grandchild, Mikey Putnam; two nieces, Teresa H. Towery and her husband, David, and Phoebe Devine and her husband, Dennis; and one nephew, Jerry Hudson.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. David Gordon officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Palmer Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, organ fund, P.O. Box 116, Earl, N.C. 28038.

Haywood Shade
SHELBY - Mr. Haywood Shade, 60, of White Oak Manor, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born January, 14, 1940, the son of the late John Henry and Beatrice Bennett Shade. He was a self-employed gardener.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Shade of Shelby; three sisters, Jessie Eskridge, Glory Smith and Jean Bessof Shelby and Rose Shade of Youngstown, Ohio; three brothers, Robert Shade of Philadelphia and John Edward Shade and Anthony Shade of Youngstown, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Genesis Funeral Service Chapel with Bishop Randy Borders officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral and at other times at the home of his sister, Jessie Eskridge at 523 East Marion Street.

Gordon Varner
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Gordon D. Varner, 70, of 113 Wave Road, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at his home.
A native of Boydale, Alaska, he was the son of the late Leonard A. and Opal J. McKee Varner. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Lithium Corporation in Bessemer City. He served in the Army during WWII.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Davis Varner of the home; six sons and four daughters-in-law, Danny Ray and Sherry Morgan, Jimmy Keel Jr. and Cindy Morgan, Leonard and Jean C. Varner, and Dewain Varner, all of Kings Mountain, Eddie Morgan of Bessemer City, and Joey and Lisa Morgan of Gastonia; two daughters, Ann Varner of Blacksburg, S.C., and Tammy Varner of Bessemer City; a brother, L.A. Varner of England, Alaska; a sister, Mildred Rushia "Aunt Mitt" Morando of Atwater, Calif.; fifteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church with the Revs. Mitchell Pruitt, Bruce Davis, and Ron Caulder officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Judes Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Timothy Gunter
BOSTIC - Mr. Timothy D. Gunter, 39, of Bostic, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Bostic.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

Walter A. Layton III
FOREST CITY - Mr. Walter Adonnis Layton III, 75, of 159 Arlington Street, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at his home.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Padgett & King Mortuary with members of the immediate family officiating.
Burial will follow in the Alexander Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the Padgett & King Mortuary.
