Kenneth Burns
ELLENBORO - Mr. Kenneth Levi Burns, 65, of Ellenboro, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Lincoln County Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Clarence L. and Nannie Mae Helton Burns. He was retired from Duke Power Co. after 25 years of service. He served in the Army for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Street Burns; two sons, Kenny Burns of Ellenboro and David Burns of Shelby; one brother, James Burns of Ellenboro; and one sister, Martha Freeman of Ellenboro.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Philbeck officiating.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside.

Mary Grier
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Mary E. Grier of 500 Margrace Road, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by J.W. Gill & Sons Funeral Home.

Addie Shahan
FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Addie Moleta Shahan, 78, of 2800 Skye Drive, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
She is survived by five sisters, Geneva Bobitt and Janette Ross, both of Kings Mountain, Virgie Gallaway of Shelby, Astor Kieth of Fayetteville and Jeanelle Melton of Mooresville; and nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Durham with the Rev. Archie Barringer officiating.

Cynthia Brooks
SHELBY - Mrs. Cynthia Diane Brooks, 37, of 513 Oakland Drive, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Genesis Funeral Service with Bishop Eugene Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her mother, Lucretia T. Brooks at 302 Lineberger St., Shelby.

Thomas Morrow
MARGATE, Fla. - Mr. Thomas Gordon Morrow, 83, of Margate, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. Burial will follow at Piedmont Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 8 at McMahan's Funeral Home Inc. in Rutherfordton.

Jacquolia Putnam
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Jacquolia "Jack" Sullivan Putnam, 84, formerly of 105 S. Elm St., died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Born on Dec. 29, 1916, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Edmond C. Sr. and Mallie Roberts Sullivan. She was employed with the Gaston County School system for 34 years and was a teacher at Mount Beulah School and Tryon Elementary and South Gastonia. She retired after teaching second grade at Cherryville East School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cherryville and a member of NCAE. She was a graduate of Appalachan State University and an avid Clemson fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Deaver Putnam who died in 1989; a brother, E.C. Sullivan; and two sisters, Avis S. Hoover and Winnie Elliott.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Hugh D. and Eva Putnam of Gastonia; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Steve Beam and Carole P. Fields, all of Cherryville; nine grandchildren, Kim Beach, Scott Carpenter, Deaver Carpenter, Chris Carpenter, Emil Fields, Josh Putnam, Vandy Putnam, Dustin Beam and Daniel Beam; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Kelley Jones, Jack H. Cooke, Charles Turner and Don Flowers Jr. officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow the service at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 7 to 8:30 at Carpenter's Funeral Home and at other times at the home of a daughter, Susan Beam, 138 Harbor Point Drive, Moss Lake, Cherryville.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 601 N. Pink St., Cherryville, NC 28021.

Winston Shull
SHELBY - Mrs. Winston Smith Shull, 69, of 1310 Wesson Road, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Ellijah, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Robert Winston Smith and Mary Elsie Moye Smith Birdsall. She was employed with the Cleveland County Health Department as a medical technician and was a member of Central United Methodist Church serving on the altar guild, the church choir and was a life member of United Methodist Women. She was a graduate of Wesleyen College in Macon, Ga., and the University of North Carolina in 1951.
She is survived by her husband, George Henderson Shull; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Bryan and Beth McCulloch Shull of Shelby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sara Shull and Glenn Mertes of Charlotte and Marywinn and Dicky Amaya of Shelby; and nine grandchildren and their spouses, Christine Mertes Salmon of Milwaukee, Mary Mertes and Eric Williams and Brittany Mertes, all of Charlotte, Anna Carole Mertes of Raleigh and Evan Amaya, Cora Amaya, Isabel Amaya, Wes Shull and Will Shull, all of Shelby.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Joe Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Marywinn Amaya at 610 Schenck St., Shelby, today from 3 to 5 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Altar Guild Central United Methodist Church, 200 E. Marion St., Shelby, NC 28150; or Young Life, P.O. Box 1757, Shelby, NC 28151.
Palmer Mortuary of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.

Rebecca Hardin
SHELBY - Mrs. Rebecca Hughes Hardin, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A native of York County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Will and Rebecca Collins. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and the Pinkney Street Society No. 10 of M.C.B.A.
In addition to her parents, she was prededed in death by her husband, Will Edward Hardin; a son, Samual Lee Hardin; a daughter, Mary Ruth Gentry; and three sisters, Mammie Thomas, Mozelle Buns and Annie Mae Fonda.
She is survived by three sons, James Hardin of Shelby, William Bobby Hardin of Kingstown and Edward Hardin of Earl; a daughter, Bernice Cannon of Shelby; two sisters, Nancy Jackson of Gastonia and Janie Williams of McConnell, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. R.E. Devoe officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times at the home of Bernice Cannon, 920 Logan St., Shelby.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

CELESTE JOHNSON
SHELBY - Mrs. Celeste Walker Johnson, 95, of 3011 Fieldstone Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late William Albert and Josephine Jackson Walker. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Shelby. She was a retired agent of the Reserve Life Insurance Co., where she worked 25 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Herman Johnson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy W. and Lemuel Wylie Sullens of Shelby, a brother and sister-in-law, Curtis C. and Edna Walker of Charlotte; a sister, Adeline Reeves of Matthews, four grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa Sullens and Barry Roger, Cynthia Yvonne and Ed Howard, Sherry and Donnie White and Barbara Sullens; nine great-grandchildren and their spouses, Ricky and Lisa Packard, Kimberly Howell, Lyndi Sullens, Kristi Sullens, Zackery Sullens, Caitlin Sullens, Winston Howard, Nikki Thomas and Miranda Sewell; and four great-great grandchildren, E.J. Packard, Brittany Packard, Jewels Howell and Sierra Thomas.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with Drs. J.M. Ezell and Pat Correll officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

WYONA PEARSON
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Wyona Myers Pearson, 87, of 107 Fairview St., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late E. Henry and Betty Blackwell Myers. She was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher and pianist. She was a retired textile employee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Harold Black.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Pearson; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry Sr. and Shirley Pearson of Garden City, S.C., Eddie Black of Kings Mountain and Reece and Lenore Black of Gastonia; a daughter and son-in-law, Eloise and Jack Moss of Kings Mountain; eight grandchildren, Jackie Riley, Warren Moss, Ann Johnson, Micki Black, Larry Pearson II, Leann Croft, Laura Black and Michael Black; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mitchell Pruitt officiating. Burial will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Harris Funeral Home.

Mary Putnam
GROVER - Mrs. Mary Victoria Putnam, 79, of 1008 Cleveland Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at her home.
A native of Greenville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late George Washington and Helen Jordan Mullinax. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Grover and retired from Minette Mills in Grover after 35 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, James Evan Martin Felkel.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Eugene Putnam of Grover; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jackie Raduly of Grover, Jeanie and Larry Hall Sr. of Grover, and Vickie and Benny Bingman of Newport News, Va.; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Kim West and husband, Glenn, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Lesa Jefferies and husband, Johnny, of Gaffney, S.C.; Tommy Martin and wife, Sandi, of York, S.C., Darrin Griggs and wife, Aina, of Oslo, Norway, Sean Griggs of Grover, Larry Hall Jr. of Grover, Robin Smith and husband, Robert, of Piedmont, S.C. and Chris Hall and wife, Alison, of Blacksburg, S.C.; and, 13 great-grandchildren, Hunter Felkel and Trevor Felkel, both of Blacksburg, Brittany West, Kristen West, both of Myrtle Beach, Stacy Jefferies of Gaffney, Garrett Martin of York, Tobias Griggs and Finn Griggs, both of Oslo, Norway, Anthony Hall of Greenville, Janice Smith and Austin Smith of Piedmont, Kayla Hall and Danielle Hall of Blacksburg; and a caregiver and special friend Williar Brooks.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Grover with the Dr. Tony Fulbright officiating. Burial will follow in Grover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain and at others times at the home.

MILES NODINE
ELLENBORO - Mr. Miles Odell Nodine, 83, of 113 Beacon Drive and formerly of Boiling Springs, died Jan. 17, 2001, at his residence.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Mary Hester Owens Nodine. He was a retired carpenter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Elizabeth Marshall Nodine and his second wife Marjorie Moore Nodine.
He is survived by one son and a daughter-in-law, James and Judy Nodine of Marion; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn and Bryson Luckadoo of Mooresboro and Shirley Drewery of Boiling Springs, S.C.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
The funeral was Saturday at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside.
Burial was in Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Tim Hendrick officiating.
Visitation was Saturday at the funeral home.

JIMMY LOVELACE
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. James Dean "Jimmy" Lovelace, 49, of 253 Old U.S. 221 Highway, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Hillcrest Rest Home.
A memorial service will be Monday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Crowe's Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White officiating.

GUY TIMMONS JR.
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Guy Thelmon Timmons Jr., 74, of 709 Hillsdale Drive, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Hospice of Wendover in Shelby.
A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Cooke officiating.
The family will receive friends at Carpenter's Funeral Home today from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Olema Atchley
UNION MILLS - Mrs. Olema Tilda Baynard Atchley, 71, of 3011 Cove Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Welcome Home Baptist Church with the Revs. Dale Owens and Shane Jackson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:30 to 8:30 at Crowe's Funeral Home, Rutherfordton.

Clarence Davison
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Clarence F. Davison, 80, of 1718 County Line Road, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at VA Hospital in Asheville.
A native of Pascagoula, Miss., he was a son of the late Dwight Clarence and Ellen Davison. He was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Bessemer City. He was a retired truck driver and served in the Army in Burma.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Henson Davison.
He is survived by his son, Dwight F. Davison of Brewerton, N.Y.; two stepsons, Kevin Revette and Kenny Revette, both of Brewerton, N.Y.; one stepdaughter, Gala White of Weedsport, N.Y.; one brother, Ray Davison of Brewerton, N.Y.; and one granddaughter, Melissa Davison of Central Square, N.Y.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Carroll Brackett officiating.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at Harris Funeral Home.

Orville Spake
FOREST CITY - Mr. Orville D. Spake, 67, of 436 U.S. 221-A, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen, with the Revs. Jim Diehl and Terry Roach officiating. Burial will be at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Bonnie Hilfer
CASAR - Mrs. Bonnie Christina Morris Hifler, 54, of 1040 St. Paul Church Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Hospice of Wendover.
The funeral will be Saturday 11 a.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston, with the Rev. Eric Houseknecht officiating. Burial will be in Casar United Methodist Church Cemetery.
