WEAKS
Marion Ervin Weaks of 3370 Big Wood Road in Winston-Salem died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at the Durham Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Forsyth County. Mr. Weaks attended Fellowship Bible Baptist Church and was a former employee of C&C Cafeteria. Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Lois W. Gwyn, Mrs. Louise W. Wells and Mrs. Hazel '`Ba’‘ W. Dawson and spouse, Paul, al of Winston-Salem; a brother, Willie L. Weaks of Winston-Salem; a devoted niece, Ms. Angelus Wolf of Winston-Salem; other relatives and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001 at the Hooper Funeral Home Chapel, 1415 E. 14th St. The Rev. Gregory Dennis will preside and interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to noon Wednesday at the funeral home and may be contacted at other times at the residence. (Johnson & Sons)

WILES
Mr. Aldean Wiles, 90, of Traphill Estates Road, Traphill, widower of Beuna Jane Casey Wiles died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Piney Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Shepherd and the Rev. E.R. Wiles officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Wiles was born Oct. 29, 1910, in Wilkes County to Millard and Fannie Stiller Wiles. He was a retired automobile mechanic and was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Wiles was the first chief of Traphill Volunteer Fire Department and upon his retirement in 1990 he was awarded the title of honorary fire chief and board member. He is survived by two daughters, Bea Wiles Simmons of State Road and Belva Wiles Richardson of Elkin; a sister, Edna Wiles Hudson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will be at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wilkes County Unit, P.O. Box 1101, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.

ALLEN KERNERSVILLE — Mr. Bobby Clarence Allen, 65, of Kernersville died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. He was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Davie County to Clarence Weir and Sylvia Wilkins Allen. Mr. Allen was a graduate of Glenn High School. He was a member of Friedland Moravian Church where he served as a diener, an usher, and was a member of the Men’s Fellowship. He was retired from the Hastings Co. and was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his father in 1995. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Wolfe Allen, of the home; his mother; two sons, Patrick Martin Allen and wife Heather, and the Rev. Matthew Wolfe Allen, all of Winston-Salem; a sister, Doris Allen Yokley and husband Arlen of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Friedland Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Steve E. Craver officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive family and friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Friedland Moravian Church Building Fund, 2750 Friedland Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

ALLEN
Mr. Bruce Clews Allen, 61, of 4040 Max Drive, Winston-Salem, died Monday morning Jan. 15, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Aug. 8, 1939, in Washington, D.C. to Bruce Ramsey and Mildred Clews Allen. He retired Aug. 31, 1976, from the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Allen was a member of Salem Lodge #289 A.F. and A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Oasis Temple of the Shrine. He was also a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, the DAV, VFW, American Legion and a lifetime member of the NCOA. He was preceded in death by a son, Brandon Clews Allen in 1992, and a brother, Guy Fletcher Allen. Survivors include his wife, Susan Reid Allen of the home; two daughters, Susan (and husband, Raymond) Herndon of Conway, S.C., and Kelley (and husband, David) Ritter of Seattle, Wash.; a stepson, Robert Alexander (and wife, Kelly) Rhoades of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Justin Herndon of Conway, S.C., Ashleigh Herndon of Conway, S.C., Tyler Rhoades of Winston-Salem and Mattison Rhoades of Winston-Salem. Graveside services (with military rites) will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Forsyth Memorial Park by the Rev. Jack Yarbrough. The family will receive friends at their home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County or to the Forsyth Humane Society, Air Force Aid Society. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

BLAKLEY
KING – Mrs. Edith Beasley Blakley, 79, of West King Street, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Stokes County to John R. and Lillian Jackson Beasley. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Blakley, in 1995. Surviving is a daughter, Judy Blakley of the home and a special nephew, Jimmy Beasley of King. She retired from Western Electric in Winston-Salem after 29 years of service. Edith was a member of First Baptist Church in King where she had taught Sunday school and helped organize the special ministry class. She had volunteered much of her time with the King Outreach Ministry, the Meals-On-Wheels program, assisting with the Inner Rhythm Choir and had also helped in the canned food section of the Stokes County Fair. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in King with Dr. John Wren, Chuck Beasley and Ron Voss, ministers, officiating. Burial will follow in the King Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Slate Funeral Home in King. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Mission Fund, P.O. Box 481, King, NC 27021 or Rural Hall Church of Christ Mission Fund, P.O. Box 146, Rural Hall, NC 27045.

BROCK
Mr. Quentin McKinley Brock, 81, of East Meadows Road, Moravian Falls, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Branch Church of Christ with Brother Steve Johnson and Brother Lawrence Warden officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Brock was born in Wilkes County on May 10, 1919, to Joseph and Lucinda Marlow Brock. He was a member of the Bethel Branch Church of Christ since 1942. He was appointed an elder of Bethel Branch Church of Christ in 1950. Mr. Brock is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel Church Brock of the home; a daughter, Joyce Johnson and her husband, Jerry of North Wilkesboro; a son, James Brock and wife, Penny, of Moravian Falls; four grandchildren, Sharon Johnson of Wilkesboro, Jeff Johnson and wife, April of North Wilkesboro, Joe Brock and Jessica Brock, both of Moravian Falls. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The family will be making their headquarters at the home of the son, James '`Buddy’‘ Brock. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Bethel Branch Church of Christ, c/o Kenneth Holland, 369 Riddle Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.

BROWN
JONESVILLE – Mr. Robert Donald '`Donnie’‘ Brown, 63, of North Main Street, Jonesville passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin. Mr. Brown was born Sept. 19, 1937, in Yadkin County to Charles L. and Elizabeth Freeman Brown. Mr. Brown was a retired cost accountant for Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Jonesville First Baptist Church. He was also a past member of the Jonesville Lions Club. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Brown. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Brown of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robbie and Lynne Brown of East Bend, Dr. Tim and Deana Brown of Suwanne, Ga.; a granddaughter, Jessica Lynne Brown; his mother, Elizabeth F. Brown, of Jonesville; a sister-in-law, Libby (Dwane) Caudle; two aunts, Catherine Martin and Estelle (Ralph) Byrd; an uncle, Charlie (Dewitt) Freeman and his mother-in-law, Bessie J. Austin of Jonesville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Jonesville First Baptist Church by Dr. Maxwell Hill and Dr. Ray Hamilton. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. Mr. Brown will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.

COX
PILOT MOUNTAIN – Mrs. Viola Hunter Cox, 94, the widow of Posey Cox, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at Northern Surry Hospital. She was a resident of Central Continuing Care and had lived in the Pilot Mountain community most of her life. She was born March 24, 1906, in Stokes County to Robert Andrew and Ella Lynch Hunter. Mrs. Cox was a farmer and a member of Brims Grove Baptist Church. Survivors are four sisters, Hattie Hunter of Pilot Mountain, Jean H. Sisk of Pinnacle, Wilma H. Mabe of Pilot Mountain and Josephine H. Sechrist of Pilot Mountain; a brother, Clevo Hunter of Pilot Mountain and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by three sisters, Nell H. Slate, Lillie H. Durham and Irene H. Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Brims Grove Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Robbie Stephens. Interment to follow in the Brims Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The Cox family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain. The Cox family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home, Pilot Mountain, NC.

ELKINS
Mr. Earnest Lester Elkins of 4029 Lofter Court, Pfafftown, passed away Jan. 15, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Elkins was born May 26, 1936, in Ashford, W. Va., and was preceded in death by his parents, the late Earnest and Gaye Dodrell Elkins. Mr. Elkins was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was employed as director of purchasing by television station WXII, a member of Winston-Salem Elks Lodge #449 and attended Hope Moravian Church. Surviving are his wife, Regina Miller Elkins of the home; a son, Mark Elkins of Taunton, Mass.; a daughter, Vicki Elkins Souza; a son-in-law, John Souza and three grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew and Michael of Lakeville, Mass.; four brothers, Ken Elkins, David Elkins, Delbert Elkins and Danny Elkins and three sisters, Ann Turley, Patty Mooney and Mary Sue Elkins and numerous nieces and nephews. A military graveside service will be held by VFW Post 4768 of Allen Creek, West Virginia at the Barker Cemetery, Ashford, West Virginia Jan. 27, 2001. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Forsyth County Humane Society, 61 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.

FLYNT
ELIZABETHTOWN – Aubrey R. '`Shrimp’‘ Flynt died Thursday, Jan. 11 at Duke University Medical Center. He was 71. Mr. Flynt had retired in 1989 after a lengthy service in the administration of Bladen Community College. He had joined the staff of the school in 1968. Since his retirement from his education career, he had worked as a special deputy and bailiff for the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Flynt was a former coroner of Bladen County and served for several years on the Bladen Community College Board of Trustees. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Bladen County Shrine Club and the Sudan Shrine Temple. A native of Winston-Salem, he was a 1968 graduate of High Point College. He received a graduate degree in 1963 from Appalachian State Teachers College (now Appalachian State University). A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Elizabethtown where he was a member, with full Masonic rites. Mr. Flynt is survived by several nephews. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.
