McDONALD
BELEWS CREEK -- Cindy Lou Flynn McDonald, 40, died early Friday at Forsyth Medical Center of breast cancer, which she had battled for the past 6 1/2 years. Cindy was born in Forsyth County on March 16, 1960, to L. Smith and the late Anna Mary Atkins Flynn. She graduated in 1978 from East Forsyth High School and in 1980 from Forsyth Technical Community College with AAS degrees in executive secretarial science and business administration. She was employed for 14 years for Community Management Corporation as a word-processing secretary. She was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Smith Flynn. Cindy is survived by her husband of 19 years, Alan Neilson McDonald, and two sons, Jeremy Alan McDonald and Judson Smith McDonald, all of the home. Also surviving are her father and stepmother, L. Smith and Colene Whitten Flynn of Winston-Salem; two brothers, J. Michael and wife Elizabeth Flynn of Advance and Richard Allen ''Dick'' Flynn of Winston-Salem; a sister, Anna Colleen and husband Jimmy Mecum of Walkertown; three stepsisters, Rosemary Knight of Mocksville, Holly Hampton of Elizabethton, Tenn. and Andrea Knight of Winston-Salem; and her special nieces and nephews, Amy (Keith) Taylor, Ashley Mecum and fiancee J.D. Manley, Christi (Tim) Welborn, John, Josh and Will Flynn, Tyler Smith, Wyatt and Bailey Welborn and Matthew Taylor. She loved all her family very much. A big thank you to John T. Eagan Jr. owner of Community Man agement Corporation. She en joyed very much working for his company and directly for him the last few years of her employ ment. Also thank you to Dr. Elms L. Allen and the entire staff of Forsyth Hematology-Oncology. They were always supportive and extremely giving. She al ways believed that they helped extend her life with their love and constant care. A special thank you to all the family mem bers and friends who were al ways there to push when needed. They did a lot of it and she ap preciated it all. Cindy asked that any memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association in honor of her brother, Mike. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Crews United Methodist Church by the Rev. Wanda Ogden and the Rev. Brian Crady. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Voglers Main Street Chapel and other times at the home of her father, 304 Grover St., Winston-Salem.

MORRISON
MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. Willie Pete Morrison, 49, of 306 Garden Terrace, Mount Airy died Friday morning, Sept. 1, 2000 at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. Mr. Morrison was born Nov. 14, 1950 in Surry County to Frances Stevens Morrison and Lee Roy Morrison, he was last employed as a supervisor of Acme Delivery Service and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Frances Stevens Morrison of Mount Airy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Yvonne and Wayne Cottrell of Currituck , and Kim and Darrell Rorrer of Ararat, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law Roy Leon and Barbara Morrison of Mount Airy; two nephews, Roy L Morrison, Jr. of Mount Airy and Wayne J. Cottrell, II of Chapel Hill and a special friend and companion, Brenda Smith of High Point. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with services conducted by the Rev. Jon Crawley. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Flat Rock Baptist Church, 1335 E. Pine St., Mount Airy, NC 27030 in memory of Willie Morrison.

MYERS
Ms. Virginia Elizabeth Myers found her eternal peace on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000. She had lived at 201 N. Sunset Drive in Winston-Salem for 12 years before illness required her move to Winston-Salem Rehab and Health Care Center on First Street on June 4, 1999. Virginia was born June 23, 1908, in Sumter, S.C., to Thomas S. Myers and Virginia D. Harris. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was retired from the Veteran s Administration. She was a volunteer and member of the Humane Society and dearly loved animals. She was of the Catholic faith and affiliated with Our Lady of Fatima and St. Leo's Catholic Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Walter, Thomas Leroy and Webster; and three sisters, Marie, Idell and Margaret. Surviving are special nieces, Catherine M. Rambo of Lexington, Ky., and Mary Wright Mungall of Seneca, S.C.; her dear godchild, Gemma Saluta of Winston-Salem; her nephew's widow, Martha Stancil St. George of Matthews; and her dear friend and spiritual adviser, Father Jessie Creel of St. Albans, N.Y. Special friends that will miss her very much include, Evelyn Smith, the Saluta family, Rose Voegele and Linda Bradham, all of Winston-Salem, Dr. William and Karen Harrison of Davie County and Jim Pegram of Bethania. Arrangements were handled by Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and her remains are interred in the Myers family plot in Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte. There will a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at the Hospice Home Chapel, with Chaplain Fred Moretz officiating. Memorial are requested to be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

OVERMAN
DURHAM -- Mrs. Rillie McLamb Overman, 92, of 3421 N. Duke St. died Thursday at Rose Manor. Born in Johnson County, Mrs. Overman was raised in Sampson County. She was first married to Ottis Parsons, who died in 1926. In 1928, she married Leesom Overman. She lived at 1513 James St. in Durham for 50 years and was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ottis Parsons George and Mrs. Norma Overman King, both of Durham; three sons, Ranson Lee ''Bill'' Overman and Frank D. Overman, both of Kernersville, and Mack Wayne Overman of Durham; a foster daughter, Juanita Ann Jordan of Durham; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ed Denton and Dr. Sam Miglarese officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Martin Burke, Tim Dick, Greg Overman, Randy Whitaker, Schuyler Knowles and Brendan Hernandez.

POWELS
MECKLENBURG -- Mrs. Annie Sherrill Powels, 78, of Cornelius died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at her residence. She was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Mecklenburg County to the late Robert Carl Sherrill Sr. and Harriett Whilhelm Sherrill. Survivors include a brother, Baxter E. Sherrill of Mooresville and her sisters, Mrs. Vassie Deaton of Mooresville, Mrs. Sarah Caldwell of Cornelius, Mrs. Edith Abernathy of Huntsville and Mrs. Eloise Bibber of Mooresville. Mrs. Powels was preceded in death by her husband, William Cecil Powels. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at Raymer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stephen Gerhard officiating. Interment will be in the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rockwell. Raymer Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs.Powels.

SAM
DURHAM -- Mrs. Lillian F. Sam, 82, died Thursday afternoon, Aug. 31, 2000, at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham. Mrs. Sam was born in New York City, the daughter of the late Wok Han Chin and Chi Chin, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Sam. Mrs. Sam moved to Winston-Salem in 1983 where she continued living gracefully as a homemaker. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Survivors include her son, Howard Sam and wife Jean of Durham; a daughter, Ellen Sam of Lexington, Ky.; sisters, Lynette Chin of Brooklyn, Dora Jung of Atlantic City and Daisy Yee of Huntington Beach, Calif; her brothers, Richard Chin of Park Ridge, N.J., and Thomas Chin of New York City; a granddaughter, Tabitha Sam; and a grandson, Micah Sam. Memorial services are being planned for a later time in Winston-Salem. The family wish es to especially thank the caring and supportive staffs of Caroli na House in Chapel Hill and Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham. Flowers should be omitted and memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3500 Westgate Drive, Suite 201, Durham, NC 27707.

SPARKS
Mrs. Rosa Smith Sparks, 92, formerly of Broad Street in Winston-Salem, of 9865 N.C. 89 West in Westfield, left our earthly presence Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born Sept. 13, 1907 in Forsyth County to John Wesley and Susie Kinley Smith. Mrs. Sparks retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. in 1969 after 43 years of service. On Dec. 21, 1929, she married James Ernest Sparks, who preceded her in death on April 20, 1977. Also preceding her in death was an infant grandson, Donald Gray Mitchell Jr., three sisters, Lillie B. Henderson, Modean Goforth and Evelyn Smith, and a brother, Tom Smith. Survivors include a brother, Charlie Smith of King; two daughters and their husbands, Mildred and Don Mitchell of Westfield and Dorothy and Jim Godfrey of Harrison, Tenn.; three sons, James E. Sparks of Winston-Salem, William J. Sparks and wife Juanita of Pfafftown, and Robert W. Sparks and wife Peggy of King; 11 grandchildren, Sarah Danner, Sandra Lambert, Sharon Marshall, Linda Farmer, Donna Ensley, Billy and Tim Sparks, Greg and Kevin Sparks, Dale Long and Brenda Everhart, and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Volger & Sons Main Street Chapel by the Rev. Joe McWethy. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Waughtown Baptist Church, 1538 Waughtown Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

THOMPSON
Mr. Charles Edward Thompson, 54, of 1807 N. Trade St. died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at his home. He was born May 14, 1946, to Nellie M. Thompson and Ernest Thompson. He was educated in Greenville, S.C., schools and was a mechanic by trade. He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Cherry and his son, Charles Edward Thompson Jr. Surviving are a daughter, Charlita Annette Thompson; two sisters, Mattie Mae Davis and Lillian Little; three brothers, Elmer Thompson, Hanky Thompson and Thomas Thompson Jr.; three grandchildren, Sharnika Thompson, Anthony Mitchell and Kevin Roseboro; and devoted friends, Rosalee Little and Annie Mae Burch. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Frances S. & Jerry C. Gilmore Memorial Chapel with Overseer Nesmith officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 30 minutes before the service.

THOMPSON
SPARTA -- Mary Ennice Osborne Thompson, 83, formerly of Sparta, died Thursday morning, Aug. 31, 2000, at the Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton, Ga. She is survived by her husband, Alton W. Thompson; a daughter, Ann Thompson Rutherford of Eatonton ; a sister, Susie Fleetwood of Monroe; two granddaughters, Mary Rebecca Long and Sally O. Bombich; and three great-grandchildren, Atlanta Marie Long and Tyler and Ryan Bombich. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Frank Osborne Jr. and Thomas Zack Osborne. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Sept. 3, 2000, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel, with burial in the Glade Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The Rev. Thom Burleson and Dr. James Frazier will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral services at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.

WEAVER
JEFFERSON -- Mrs. Dorothy Madge Dixon Weaver, 82, passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Weaver was born in Ashe County on Sunday, Jan. 20, 1918, to John Elmore Dixon and Dora Williams Dixon. She was an assembly worker in an electrical manufacturing company. She was a member of the Nathans Creek United Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and the Nathans Creek Homemakers Club. Her husband, Charles Frank Weaver, preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Danny Weaver of Douglasville, Ga.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Bobby Stanley and Imogene and Garnett Goodman of Jefferson and Maxine and Wendell Smith of Ararat, Va.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim Alex and Barbara Dixon of Aberdeen, Md., and J.T. and Virginia Dixon of Crumpler; three grandchildren, Movita Stanley, Wendy Childress and Chad Smith; two grandsons, Alex and Max Childress; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Ashe, P.O. Box 421, Jefferson, NC 28640, or to the American Cancer Society. Boone Family Funeral Home of West Jefferson is in charge of these arrangements.
