SOUTHERN
Mabel Marie Collins Southern, 65, of 4050 Kernersville Road died Monday, July 31, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Eden United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Ellisboro Community of Madison. Mrs. Southern was a native of Stokes County and had lived in North Miami for 31 years. She had lived in Winston-Salem for the past two years. She was of the Baptist faith. She had retired as a clothing saleslady of T.J. Max and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Hadgie Neal Collins, and sisters, Elizabeth Boles and Maxine Boles. She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Roy Southern, of the home; daughters, Dawn Palumbo and husband, Michael, of Gay, Ga., Kimberly Storfer and husband, Mitchell, of Coral Springs, Fla. and Robin Middleton and husband, Greg, of Moreland, Ga.; sisters, Faye Tice of High Point, Peggy Mabe of Kernersville and Becky Wray of Richmond, Va.; brothers, Jim Collins of Burlington and Cecil Collins of Oak Ridge; and eight grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Ray Funeral Home in Madison. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

STIKELEATHER
WELCOME -- Ronald Stikeleather, 68, of 48 Candlewood Drive died Monday at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem after a difficult struggle with cancer. He was born April 3, 1932, in Alexander County to the late Thomas J. and Vera Jane Rector Stikeleather. He was self-employed as a HVAC contractor in Raleigh for many years until moving to Welcome to own and operate Candlewood Mobile Home Estates. Ronald will be remembered for his strong commitment of his family and friends, his willingness to help others and his love for life. He will be greatly missed by many. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Advent Christian Church, Highway 42 E., Clayton. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Raleigh. Surviving are his wife, Rachel Stikeleather of Raleigh; daughter Jane Stikeleather Price and her husband, Shelton; sons Gene Stikeleather Jr. of Raleigh and Lee Stikeleather and his wife, Vickie, of Garner; sisters Rachel Rector and Collen Hoke, both of Stoney Point; brother Glen Stikeleather of Taylorsville; grandchildren Curt Kelley and his wife, Tammy, Kelly Price, Jake Stikeleather and Jordan and Joshua Stikeleather; and a great-grandchild, Lauren Kelley. He was preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Stikeleather of Kannapolis, who also died on cancer on May 6, 1995. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner and other times at the home of Rachel Stikeleather, 1501 Dowling Road, Raleigh. Family and friends will gather for a special memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ronald's home in Welcome for a time of sharing memories.

BERRIER
LEXINGTON -- Mr. Howard (Shorty) Roger Berrier, 87, of S. Union Grove Rd., Lexington, died Friday, October 1, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born in Davidson County on November 7, 1911 to Andrew Rodger Berrier and Mary Brinkley Berrier. He was retired from Davis Chevrolet and a member of Enterprise Moravian Church. Mr. Berrier was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Fritts Berrier, on January 11, 1984. He is survived by three daughters, Betty B. Craver and husband, Tommy, and Peggy B. Link and husband, Richard, both of Lexington, and Brenda B. Craver of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Melinda P. James and Richard Craig Link; three great grandchildren, Erica Dalla Tezza, Jessica Dalla Tezza, and Julie James; three brothers, Orville R. Berrier, Irvin M. Berrier, and George W. Berrier, all of Lexington; one sister, W. Modena Tesh of Lexington; and special friend, Evangeline Felts. Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m., Monday, October 4 at Enterprise Moravian Church, with burial to follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel, and at other times, they will be at the home on S. Union Grove Rd. Memorials may be made to Enterprise Moravian Church, 2733 Enterprise Rd., Lexington, N.C. 27295 or the charity of the donor's choice.

BROWDER
KING -- Dorothy Irene Boyles Browder, age 88, widow of James Harvey Browder, of 604 Ingram Drive, King, N.C., died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at her home. Mrs. Browder was born in Stokes County on February 10, 1911 to William S. and Nannie Scott Boyles. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church in King, N.C. Surviving are one daughter, Wanda B. Sams, of Pilot Mountain; and one sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Gurney Allen, of Clemmons. Mrs. Browder was preceded in death by three sisters; and one brother. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel in Pilot Mountain, N.C. by Rev. Lamar Tillman. Burial will be in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Cox-Needham Funeral Home on Sunday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Carolina Christian Village, 604 Ingram Drive, King, N.C. 27021 or in floral tribute.

FLOWERS
DANVILLE, Va. -- Lucille Flowers of 398 Hawthorne Drive, died Friday, October 1, 1999 at Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville, Va. Born July, 8, 1909 in Poquoson, Va., she was the daughter of Blanche and Sydney Moore. Mrs. Flowers was married in April of 1933 to Bert Flowers, who predeceased her on August 27, 1991. She was educated at Eastman School of Business in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Prior to moving to Danville, Mrs. Flowers was employed as secretary to the president of the Newport News Shipbuilding Co. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Danville Golf Club, and the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. Mrs. Flowers was a member of First Baptist Church since 1936. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Ceile Ogburn and her husband, Sam, of Winston-Salem, Ellen Bridgers and her husband, Odell, of Wilmington, and Carolyn F. Wilson and her husband, Charles, of Lake Bluff, Ill.; three grandchildren, Sam Ogburn, Jr. and his wife, Jane, Elizabeth Ogburn Swinson and her husband, Mack, of Winston-Salem, and Suzanne Wilson of Nashville, Tenn; and four great grandchildren, Sam Ogburn, III, Jack Ogburn, Mary Ogburn Swinson, and Michael Swinson of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Joey Faucette. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 398 Hawthorne Drive, and suggests that memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 871 Main Street, Danville, Va. 24541 or to your favorite charity. Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FLYNT
GREENSBORO -- Mrs. Claudia Shelton Flynt, 83, died Saturday, Oct . 2, 1999 at her home in the Guilford College community. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct . 5 at First Moravian Church, where she was a member. Interment will be in New Garden Friends Meeting Cemetery. Mrs. Flynt was born in Stokes County and made her home in the Guilford College community, Greensboro, for the past 61 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman E. Flynt, Sr. Surviving are her son, Elwood Flynt and his wife, Catherine; daughters, Marie Flynt Key and her husband, J.C. and Evelyn Flynt Andrew, both of Greensboro; and brothers, Garland Shelton of Winston-Salem, Ray Shelton of Kernersville, and Paul Shelton of Wake Forest. Also surviving are grandchildren, Robbie Flynt, Tammy Stanley, Keith Flynt, Robin Hrdlicka, Andy Andrew, and Kevin Key; and 10 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel, and other times, at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Moravian Church, 304 South Elam Avenue, Greensboro, N.C. 27403.

FRANKLIN
Mrs. Carrie Roberta Franklin, 86, of 3825 Oak Hill Dr., beloved moth er, grandmother, and great grandmother, went to cele brate with the Lord Thursday, September 30, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born September 6, 1913 in Stokes County to Granville and Ninada Tuttle Miller. Mrs. Franklin was a member of Pinedale Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Glenn Franklin, in 1998. Surviving are three daughters, Ninada ''Nan'' Belk of Monroe, N.C., Marion Barbre and husband, Bob, of Winston-Salem, and Cathey Bowman and husband, Gene, of Pfafftown; two sisters, Mrs. Luella Casey and husband, R.T., of Winston-Salem and Faith Thompson and husband, Alvin, of Washington, N.C.; two brothers, John Miller and wife, Evelyn, of Walnut Cove and Ed Miller and wife, Margaret, of Rural Hall; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 4 at Pinedale Christian Church, with William F. McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown. Mrs. Franklin will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and requests memorials be made to Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27127.

HALL
Mrs. Brittie Angel Hall died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at Clemmons Village Retirement Home. She was born June 14, 1910 to Robert Lee and Essie Fulp Angel. She lived in Winston-Salem most of her life. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. Mrs. Hall was married to the late William Alexander Caudle and the late James Elsie Hall. She is survived by a daughter, Darlene; and her husband, Charles R. Jones, of Chapel Hill; a son, William A. (Bill) Caudle, Jr. and his wife, Agnes Caudle, of Mocksville; a son-in-law, John L. Eller of Hubert, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Caudle, of Advance; two sisters, Millie Transou of Clemmons Village Retirement Home and India Crow of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Seymore Angel of Salemtowne Retirement Community and Forest Angel of Providence, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Eller; and a son, Thomas L. Caudle. The family will receive friends at Vogler's Main Street Chapel, 120 South Main Street, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted at Vogler's Main Street Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 4 by Rev. Richard Odum and Rev. Joe McWethy. Memorial gifts may be sent to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C South Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

HAMMOND
ADVANCE -- Mrs. Joan Diane Hammond, 56, of Advance, Possum Thicket, passed away Wednesday, September 29. She was born 4 October, 1942 in Long Island, N.Y. to the late Gerry and William Hopley. She was an employee of U.S. Airways TLC reservation center. Surviving are her loving husband, Mike Hammond, of the home, two daughters; Lisa Seeger and husband Robert, of Columbia, S.C., Kristen Thomas and husband Les of Miami, Fla.; one son, Eric Artom of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren, Bianca Seeger and Sweet Pea; one brother, Larry Hopley and wife Elaine of Lewisville; one seester, Dale Roediger of Winston-Salem; five nieces, Morgan Hopley, Chrystal Pegram and husband David, Heidi Riddle and husband Nathan and their daughters Peyton and Parker, Starr Roediger, Trish Whelan and husband Nick; one nephew, Matthew Beckham; two brother-in-laws, Vic Hammond and wife Linda of Winston-Salem, Bill Trow and wife Mary of St. Paul, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Pat White and husband Wes of Radford, Va.; and very special friends, Rick Holder, Kathy Ferguson, and Judy Roffo. Joan will be lovingly missed by those that knew her. The love and caring she shared was something special and gladly given. The love and good memories will remain with us always, to be shared with those we love. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 4, 1999 at 7 p.m. at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church, Advance, with pastor Ronnie Craddock officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth Co., 1100-C S. Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Arrangements by Cremation Services of Winston-Salem.

HIRE
Mrs. Grace Alice Tesh Hire, 94, of Winston-Salem, died at Forsyth Medical Center on September 30, 1999. Mrs. Hire was born in Forsyth County to Emma Kiger and Edward Bloom Tesh on March 18, 1905. She spent her entire life in Forsyth County with the exception of two years spent in Columbia, S.C., in the twenties. She grew up in the Marvin United Methodist Church community and joined that church in her girlhood. She was an active member until she joined the Moravian Church in later years. She had been an active member of Christ Moravian Church, the Women's Fellowship, the Schwalbe Bible Class and the Senior Friends since 1955. She was the widow of Mr. David Nathaniel Hire. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Leon Daniels, Sr.; a grandson and his wife, Leon and Donna Daniels; two great grandchildren, Shannon D. McDonald of San Diego, C.A. and Brent Daniels of Winston-Salem; a step daughter, Mrs. Wiley (June) Stanford; three step grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Hazel F. Tesh. Mrs. Hire was the last survivor of the six children of Emma Kiger and Edward Bloom Tesh,her parents; one sister, Maude T. Crews; and four brothers, Ellis, Thomas, Walter, and Edward preceded her in death. Mrs. Hire was retired from the Hanes Corporation Knitwear Division after 40 years of service. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 3, 1999 at 3:30 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Her Pastor, Rev. Wallace Elliott, and Dr. Sam Marx will conduct the service with burial to follow in the Moravian Graveyard. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Schwalbe Bible Class, Christ Moravian Church, 919 W. Academy Street, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101-5103. Since May 1999, Mrs. Hire had been a resident at the Homestead Hills Facility. Her family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to the staff for their care and love.
